This is a casual Asian restaurant located on Fraser Street in the Punjabi Market. Their menu consists primarily of Hong Kong style dishes, which are sort of a fusion between Asian and Western food. I had their Baked Curry Beef Brisket Thick Toast and Baked Pork Chop with Tomato Sauce on Rice, and thoroughly enjoyed both dishes. Their prices are also very cheap. I did find their service to be a bit lacking unfortunately (which is typical of most Asian restaurants); and it definitely helps if you can speak Cantonese as that's the language that the staff primarily uses. The good food and prices more than make up for the lackluster service however, and I'd highly recommend checking this place out if you enjoy HK cuisine. This is cash only, so be sure to have some bills on you.
Baked Curry Beef Brisket Thick Toast ($9.95):
4/5
This consisted of a small loaf of toast that's filled with beef curry. The toast was of the Asian-style milk toast variety, and was very fluffy and had a wonderful chewiness. The curry was also very flavourful and savoury, with several large pieces of tender beef and potatoes. I did find a few of the potato pieces to be a tad undercooked.
Baked Pork Chop with Tomato Sauce on Rice ($10.25):
4/5
The pork chop had a lightly crunchy coating, and was quite meaty and tender. While I'm generally not the biggest fan of tomato sauce, I actually quite enjoyed the version here; it was quite thick and not overly tangy. The portion size isn't very large, but their prices are quite cheap, making it a very reasonable deal.
Summary:
Food: 4/5
Price: 4.5/5
Service: 2.5/5
Overall: 3.5/5

I keep forgetting to take pictures as it looked so good and I was too hungry to remember. We decided to go to my favouriate Hong Kong Style Cafe on Fraser Street in Vancouver. Haven't seen the bald guy who used to take care of the til. He was mean looking to some but over the years he was really a nice guy. Hope he just found another job. They are best known for their curry chicken or brisket with rice. It's the best as it's red curry and it's very authentic Chinese Malaysian. Hainese Chicken and Roti also very good. But today we arrived at 1125am so I had breakfast order by 1130am of Chicken Steak with 2 eggs and choice of toast or French toast and a hot drink for $8.75?! Chicken steak is done right, boneless fried to perfection. Two eggs a lot for me as very filling. French toast was half a order with kaya jam in between the layers of the toast. I'm more on the peanut butter team but I still like it. And I had a free drink of choice, I had the Ovaltine .Dragon and Phoenix had the Stir fried Rice Noodle with chicken and mushrooms. They did use canned mushroom but it had "wok-flavour". They also shared the Half coffee and half tea drink. I'm not in love with this drink but I know their Hong Kong style tea is excellent. The bill with tip came up to $20.00 that fed 3 people. A tip free parking in the parking lots in the back! Service is always nice. They though we ordered two breakfast but when we said that was the wrong order and they took it away without a fuss.
We come here quite regularly because, as you will see, their set combo is super delicious and CHEAP. If we are super hungry, ordering ONE of these combos will fill us to the brim.
The lunch combo we order is $15, which includes ALL the food below!
A hk style cafe in punjabi market, interesting. My girlfriend and I decided to give it a shot. We always see people come in at 3/4 full capacity. Our service is very friendly and prompt. Prices are on the touch high side from other cafes. Actually I would say it's only a dollar or more from hitting par on price with cafe Gloucester.
My girlfriend got the stone bowl with beef, raw egg, and peas. You just mix it up till the egg is fully cooked. It wasn't bad it's good, just a touch boring lol. Her bowl came with a drink and she ordered the cold lemon tea. I got the spicy tofu and beef, comes with rice, and soup of the day. This dish is pretty good, I'm surprised. I guess it's a hit or miss with items here. But what we both agreed on is the portions here. They are huge and generous. I'll be back to try a baked item. But if I were to ordered the spicy tofu dish again, it can feed two people, just add a extra rice.
Btw they sell whole cakes, slices of cakes, and grab to go items too.
It is hit or miss Hong Kong cafe restaurant for me. I like their french toast, seafood laksa, thai fried rice and shanghai noodles. Their milk tea is also good here too. It is a very busy restaurant especially during lunch hours. Their customer service is not bad. The price is little bit higher than other restaurants. Their portion is quite generous but the taste can be inconsistent from time to time. Overall when the food is good, I do enjoy eating here.
Best food with tremendous value that I can remember for a long time. Try the braised soup here - cannot go wrong with any of them. And any rice noodle dish comes with a complimentary hot drink :)
Service isn't with a smile, but it's efficient and the food is decent and at a good value. Large menu with good results on many of the dishes is quite the accomplishment.
After hearing about this curry chicken in a bread box I had to come try this. Not everyday you get a bowl of curry inside a "thick toast" bread box. I thought it was pretty good. We also got Prawn & mushroom creme sauce on rice. This one was alright. Each dish comes with a drink. I rate this 4 out of 5 on my curry dish alone.

Hong Kong is a very unique city, its culture was greatly influenced by the western yet it still contains a bit of Chinese style, including its food culture. Other than the popular Dim Sum, I am sure a lot of you have also heard about Cha Chaan Teng/ Hong Kong style cafe.
Here is some background from the internet:
In the past, western cuisine was a luxury for local people in Hong Kong. After Hong Kong being taken over by the British as a British Colony, Hong Kong culture was slowly influenced by the British, and people started enjoying high-tea. Therefore, some local people created the Cha Chaan Teng (meaning Tea Restaurant), which provided Canton-Western food and drinks with a low price.
Canton-style milk tea is one of a great example, which is still the most popular drinks that serves in Cha Chaan Teng.
Today, in particular, let me introduce you the breakfast/ brunch serves in Cha Chaan Teng. (You will definitely be able to tell it is a built up from western food..)
