Ordered some meat on skewers, a bowl of noodles, prawns, scallops and the eggplant. We loved the eggplant and prawns, could have done without the scallops though. The lamb meat in the noodles was very tender, a nice hearty bowl of noodles but not that much flavour. As for the skewers, the chicken skin and lamb we enjoyed. The chicken wings were decent but would not order again. We would come back if in the area.
Few nights ago, I suddenly craved for skewers, so Mr. and I decided to go Happy Tree House BBQ to satisfy my cravings. I often go to the Kingsway location, because it is closer to my house and is more spacious. For anyone who doesn’t know about Happy Tree House BBQ, it specializes in Chinese-style skewers and grilled fish. It has two locations – Kingsway and Richmond, and they are some of the few restaurants in Vancouver that open until late night. I usually come here for skewers, but there is this one dish that I must order whenever I am here. Read until the end to learn more about this dish.
Happy Tree House BBQ recently opened up a location in Vancouver (they have another location in Richmond). Known for their BBQ skewers and whole fish dishes, they now occupy the site of the former Star Anise and Samosa Garden in a small mini mall on Kingsway known for their incredulous parking. We arrived for an early dinner on a Friday and were surprised at how busy this place got. The interior is quite bright, open, and airy with large tvs hanging from one wall and loud music blaring throughout the restaurant. There are a few private rooms in the back but the main dining area is comprised of tables and benches.
Anyways, Happy Tree House BBQ is located on Kingsway Street in Vancouver. It is relatively new and specializes in Northern Chinese BBQ, which is something I haven’t had before.
Decent ambience and quite spacious with plenty of seating.
This place is quite popular with its bbq. Generally, the skewers were delicious and very tasty. Enjoyed the lamb bbq. They were well prepared and seasoned!
The quality of the service is acceptable.
After we moved back to Vancouver, we had dinners at Happy Tree House BBQ Restaurant three times in one month. We had such great experience dining at Happy Tree House BBQ every time.
Happy Tree House BBQ is a Chinese Restaurant, mainly serves Chinese style BBQ (Meat on Strewer) and Grilled fish (We haven’t got a chance to try them yet). The restaurant has two locations, one in Vancouver and another one is in Richmond. We’ve been to the Vancouver location since it’s nearby our place.
The 1st time we were here. It was my boyfriend’s first time having Chinese Style BBQ at Restaurant. We ordered all the popular dish, such as Lamb kebab (special), Pork, Angus beef kebab, Chicken heart, fried ice cream, Mung bean pasta, and beer. All the food were very delicious and tasty. The taste of the food was very authentic. It seems like we are in China. The beer was super cheaper, which impressed my boyfriend.
The 2nd time we were here. It was very early. We got the restaurant when it just opened. We ordered something same as last time and also had something different from last time. I had Enoki Mushroom, Sausage, Spicy assorted meat kebab in the pot, bull backstraps, and etc. The sausages were a little bit disappointed. Instead of using sausages, they used a hotdog, which was not good. Other than that, all the food was great.
The 3rd time we tried more since it was my boyfriend’s birthday party and we had lots of friends come. We tried spicy chicken wings, spicy tripe, squid tentacle, Eggplant, Handmade noodle in bone broth and etc. We had such great time dining at Happy Tree House BBQ.
The price of food was not so experienced, the customer service was good. We enjoyed eating at Happy Tree House BBQ. Highly recommend eating at this restaurant. Strong suggest do not go to this place right on the dinner time. It will be lots of people there.
○Decent service/ better make reservations
○Good food/ I don't like that they put a minimum order of 5 on all the skewers
○Loud social gathering atmosphere
○Limited parking space
○The tables are really low I can't cross legs and feels really uncomfortable when sitting
○If I had to choose 1 dish : cod fish hotpot add luncheon meat and quail eggs
○Would i go back ? Yes
