The Best Hainanese Chicken I've ever tried in Vancouver so far!
Having heard that this restaurant has a signature dish that is one of my favourite - I have decided to give it a try.
Now I have already tried twice before writing this review.
They have got their Famous Boneless Hainanese Chicken, the BEST I have ever tried in Vancouver!
I have made 2 separate take-out orders in 2 months. With ordering one whole chicken ($30 plus tax), you will get 5 bowls of Chicken Oil Rice with it, also with 2 kinds of dipping sauce.
The texture of the chicken was tender and juicy, but not under-cooked. The taste of the meat was not salty. As for the chicken oil rice, it was not greasy, yet you could taste the fragrance of the chicken broth in the rice.
I will strongly recommend this place for Hainanese Chicken.
I’ve never been a big fan of Hainanese Style Chicken but I’ve heard many of my friends raving about the chicken at City 1 Cafe. Everyone can’t be wrong, right? Haha. I ordered the Regular Hainanese Chicken with a Bowl of Oil Rice (8.95). This came out like LIGHTNING speed! It couldn’t have been more than say…3-5 minutes and everything was out. That has got to be some sort of record that puts fast food kiosks to shame lol.
A hidden gem - if you have craving for Singaporean food from time to time like me. Their Hainanese Chicken is smooth and tender. Lasa noodles soup base is flavorful, you can tell it is shrimp/prawn based. Satay Skewer were also very tasty. Better yet, their price is very reasonable as well.

Their Hainanese chicken is the best. They are boneless and tasty. I usually ordered 1/2 chicken or a whole chicken sometimes. You better pre-order the chicken when you make a table reservation. They sold out quickly sometimes.
Don't come late or all the hainam chicken will be gone!
We decided to try City 1 Cafe on the recommendation of a friend of my wife's sister around 7:30 PM on a mud-week day which is a 1/2 hour before closing time. There was none of the popular hainam Chucken so u ordered the curry beef brisket instead. It has a nice portion if beef and potatoes but I thought the rice was a bit chewy. It turned out to be coconut shredded on top of the rice.,, my first time but tasty...
Made a reservation for Sunday lunch to try the hainam chicken... ^_^
Great "oil rice" and hainese chicken! Be aware that they close between 230-530pm though!
Not an extensive menu. You won't be disappointed with any dish on that menu. Boneless haninese chicken IS definitely their #1 specialty.
George likes his chicken cold. Awsome Hainan chicken is very worthy. Lopan's cravings for cold juicy chicken were highly appeased. This place is kinda hidden in a faceless strip mall but it is definitely worth seeking out.
City 1 Cafe is a pretty new South East Asian cuisine. It is another lovely Malaysian restaurant that definitely worth going. Love their Hainanese Chicken and Laksa:)
