It’s a great option for late night Chinese, fair price, good food. Recommend for their chicken hot pot. It’s very well prepared, if you want some authentic Hong Kong style late night. I recommend here
This hole in the wall seafood restaurant has been in the neighbourhood since as long as I can remember. One of the few restaurants serving chinese food past the usual dinner time hours, Rose Garden offers late night menu from 10:00pm – 2:00am. . Chinese escargot in special sauce. This is a must order dish for me when I come here. It’s stayed consistently tasty since a few years back when I started eating it. The special sauce they put together is really what makes this dish sooo addictive. The sauce I presume is made from a mixture of soy, chilies, garlic, sugar and some other secret ingredients but it goes so well with everything. Even putting a few drops of it in plain congee or on top of the oyster omelette elevates the flavours. For $11, you can a small plate to try and there is a lot of tiny escargot inside. Don’t worry I am no expert at getting these babies out of the shell, so I usually slurp a bit then use a toothpick ot pick it out.
After a late evening visit at St. Pauls' Hospital, Buddha Boy and I were hungry. It's approximately 9pm and we have not yet had dinner. Not exactly sure what we wanted, Buddha Boy suggested to go for late-night menu at our neighborhood canteen, Rose Garden Seafood Restaurant
Our meal started with a plate of Bean Leave with Garlic Sauce The lightly-salted greens were fresh and crisp with aromatic garlic kicks. A simple and comforting dish done well.
The Pan Fried Oyster Omelette 香煎蠔烙 was disappointing. The oysters had a foul odor that, to me, seemed like the oysters have gone bad. Buddha Boy thought it could just be something in the pancake mix that threw me off...
Because we were having plain congee to accompany all the dishes, I allowed Buddha Boy to order two deep-fried items. The first was Deep Fried Pork Chops with Peppery Salt While the chili and garlic mix gave the package a savory soul, the pork chops were dry and chewy.
Buddha Boy's second deep-fried choice was Deep Fried Chicken Joints with Peppery Salt Each chunky piece of chicken knuckles had a moist and tender crunch that's delicately coated with a gentle crisp. The finishing blend of chili and garlic did the wonders of beautifying the dish with spicy and garlicky kicks.
Of course, Buddha Boy must have his staple of Prawns with Scrambled Egg 滑蛋蝦球, his all-time-favorite at this divey restaurant. The creamy and smooth scrambled eggs accompanied by generous amount of sizeable prawns never failed to appease Buddha Boy.
I have been craving for some Blanched Geoduck Slices 白灼象拔蚌 for a very long time. Though these were previously frozen, it did satisfy my appetite.
Our Plain Congee 白粥 was complimentary because we ordered over four items from its Night Snack menu. Usually, the Night Snack menu at Rose Garden runs from 10pm to 2am daily. We arrived at about 9:20pm and were given the privilege to order from its late-night menu. But because we arrived early, the rice porridge was not quite ready until almost towards the end of our meal. Nonetheless, we enjoyed our visit.
Because Buddha Boy has been busy with deadlines at work and I have limited mobility to do grocery shopping on my own, we have been dining out a lot lately. Tonight, Buddha Boy suggested to go for the mix & match combo dinner 合菜 (和菜) at our neighborhood canteen.
The two of us ordered six items from the Family Combo 精美和菜 menu plus a dish off the regular menu. The combo includes relevant portions of soup, rice and dessert. We requested to only have four of the seven dishes served to us while the other three packed as take-out.
The soup of the day was Watercress and Pork Bone Soup There's a good visible amount of watercress in the bowl with chunks of bone meat. The pork bone broth was savory, but MSG was also quite noticeable.
First to arrive was the Crispy Chicken Topped with Ginger & Green Onion The chicken was fried to crispy then dressed with a blend of soy sauce, sesame oil, sugar, ginger and scallions. This place knows how to do chicken right. Not only the dark meat was delightful, the white meat was also moist and delicate. We polished this plate of half bird pretty quickly.
The main reason why Buddha Boy loves this divey restaurant (and made it our canteen) was for its Prawns with Scrambled Egg As always, the mildly seasoned eggs were creamy, smooth and fluffy. The prawns were pretty decent in quality with that gentle textural crunch. From the photo. it didn't seem like there were a lot of prawns, but there were a number of pieces hiding beneath that bed of scrambled eggs.
We wanted something meaty and a simple staple such as Pork Chops with Sweet & Sour Sauce 京都肉扒 satisfied our need. Unlike The Soup House 湯.com where the sauce used primarily ketchup, the flavoring blend here used mainly sugar and vinegar with a gentle and quiet tone of ketchup. The delectable chops were savory and succulent. This was an appetizing dish.
We had three dinner specials packed as take-out for delivery at my dad's place. The first plate was Beef Brisket Hot Pot
The second to-go dish was Shredded Beef Tenderloin with Black Pepper Sauce
The third container was Sauteed Cod Fillets with Greens
Off the regular menu, we ordered Pea Sprout with Garlic The vegetables were fresh, young and tender. Considerable amounts of fresh chopped garlic accented the greens with a solid garlic aroma.
At Rose Garden Seafood Restaurant 嘉好海鮮美食之家, the Family Combo 精美和菜 comes in two types of pricing. If you order four/six/eight items from the combo dinner menu, you have the option of "paying" a little more for the so-called "free" dish (crab, tilapia or prawn satay pot) Yes, it's not actually "free" as stated on the menu, instead, you are getting an extra dish at a discounted price. No paid freebies if you order three items or less. All combo deals include soup of the day, white rice and dessert of the day.
As I have mentioned before, this scroungy old-school Chinese restaurant located on Kingsway near Tyne Street in Vancouver is our neighborhood canteen. Portions are admirable. Prices are reasonable. Quality is respectable. Taste is agreeable.
While all the servers are friendly and welcoming, service can be questionable.
Rose garden i was searching for a potluck dinner alternative, and i've decided to go with rose garden, since it's chinese food :D and true enough, chinese food is the best for take out and potlucks as well, ordered the string beans, duck, tofu and cod, and also chicken if i'm not mistaken, and everything tasted okay, definitely good, oh i do miss chinese food, but the string beans are a little bit too soft. other than that it's definitely alright, everything is where it's supposed to be, the meat was still juicy and the skin is cripsy and the saltiness is just right, and the sauce for tofu & cod is awesome as well definitely like it can't go wrong with it.
• I love Rose garden especially their deep fried tofu. i can eat this everyday!
• They have specials or set menu items which are amazing and perfect for your meal
• street parking only (along side streets)
• do not park at Safeway as you will get towed
• they're open late and have mahjong sometimes
• I'm not sure if people still smoke inside the restaurant but last time I went, there were (1-2 years ago)
• server is nice, she knows what I'll order before I even open my mouth :)
Good service, good food! A perfect go-to if you're looking to satisfy any chinese food cravings. The seafood dishes are pricey compared to any other meat dishes, but otherwise very reasonable prices.
Great Chinese Food!. My boyfriends mom takes us to dinner here whenever she wants to see us all together. It's kind of the "go-to" place for us (usually 5 people total).
We always get the combo dinner which comes with a free Crab dish (always delicious!) Some favourites are: Deep Fried Prawns w/ Peppery Salt, Cod Fillet with Cream Corn Sauce, Steamed Chicken topped with Ginger and Green Onions, Peking Duck, Snow pea tips.. Never had a bad experience in all the times I have come. The decor looks old but the place is clean.
If you are craving Chinese food this is definitely the place to go if you're in the Burnaby area!
Great Midnight Snacks. Great restaurant for midnight snacks. Their deep fried plain rolls, black bean sauce snails are fantastic. One of the best places to be at. Workers are extremely friendly and food is always fresh. Definitely one of my favourite midnight snack restaurants.
Best Chinese Food. Every dish tastes fantastic. It's the best Chinese food. Delivery was on time, hot and better than we expected.
Will order again.
Love this place! It's definitely a late night find!
Their late night menu is very reasonably priced with free congee if you meet the minimum order of 4 dishes. I highly recommend their snails cooked in house made soy saucy goodness and the soy stir fried egg noodles! This place never disappoints! Good for after late night of partying!
Great local Chinese Restaurant. Rose Garden has been one of our "go-to" places for good local Chinese take-out ever since we moved in the area. Strangely enough, we've only eaten in the actual restaurant once - but that's another story...
Especially like the noodle dishes, congee, and lettuce wrap.
The place always seems to be filled with locals, and even though we haven't been there for awhile, the manager/waitress always seems to remember us.
The restaurant is located on Kingsway, across the street from Safeway and there is both street parking and parking in the back alley.
We ordered 2 lbs of these tasty crustaceans that was simply prepared by steaming and served with a soy sauce-based dipping sauce. You have to be a little careful ripping the heads and shells off because the liquids can squirt out of the head and the shells are a bit sharp.
Rose Garden Seafood Restaurant has been one of our go-to places in the neighbourhood for Chinese take out but we've only dined in the restaurant once before many years ago. It was a family dinner - one thing led to another, yada, yada, yada… and we've been too embarrassed to return since then.
Rose Garden Seafood Restaurant on Kingsway is one of those Chinese restaurants you want to know about. The one that doesn't win a bunch of awards, or hasn't been fawned upon ad nauseam by the same circle of local media. It's the one that is packed with customers that don't speak English. It's a dive with crappy decor, hand scribbled specials written in Chinese taped to the wall and grumpy staff - but solid food that can feed an army, or a family if you don't happen to have an army handy. (Clockwise: 1. Seafood Chow Mein. 2. Stir Fried Fish and Seasonal Vegetables. 3. Tsing Tao Beer.) There were five of us. So naturally we selected the set meal for six, which included soup, a chef's special and dessert making it nine dishes, really. The daily soup was a pretty typical Chinese soup with mushrooms, bean curd, and pork: tasty, if not a bit oily. Next, the jellyfish marinated in sesame oil and light vinegar served side by side with Char Siu (Barbeque Pork). Wok fri
