Residing in Keefer Place, just seconds away from International Village and the infamous Abbott Street, was Hai Phong Kitchen. Easily undermined by its storefront, the eatery operated quickly while delivering quality. Seating was allocated towards one large table, a handful of two- and four-seaters, and a series of bar stools by the window. Menus stood by the cashier; a brightly illuminated kitchen could be spotted behind.
Orders were frequent and the restaurant was evidently busy, however the girl behind the counter maintained an amiable demeanour. She was friendly and, before all else, composed in her execution of tasks.
My takeout order of Grilled Marinated Pork Salad Roll (#7), Grilled Lemongrass Chicken Salad Roll (#8), Beef Ball Pho (#1), and Grilled Pork Skewer and Grilled Pork Patty with Vermicelli (#18) was compiled in under fifteen minutes. Neatly wrapped utensils and containers free of smears were wonderful touches. The same applied to their bathroom, a clean and spacious quarter (with a hook!).
Highlights of the meal were the unmistakably fragrant peanut and scallion toppings of the Vermicelli dish, crunchy lettuce of the Salad Rolls, and chewy Beef Balls submerged in flavourful broth.
We didn't have access to a car yesterday, which is oftentimes true, so we had to find something that was within walking distance of the service centre (and we hadn't tried before). B found a couple that was close to Stadium Station and off we went. We spotted Hai Phong first, so we decided to try it and save Qieu Cafe for another time. If the price were lower, we would definitely come back.
Decent Vietnamese restaurant. Their banh mi sandwiches are really good: I like the lemongrass chicken sub. I like their rice dishes here more than their pho. I recommend getting the grilled pork, lemongrass chicken with egg on rice. Their regular pho (beef) is pretty standard -- a bit on the pricey side since they only offer 1 size for $9.50.
Their banh mi sell out out sometimes by dinner time though :( so if you want to ensure you get a viet sub, go earlier!
They also offer a bubble tea combo add-on for $2.50 if you order a bowl/rice entree.
I've been here for more than 15 times now. Service is good, soup and noodles are tasty. The spring rolls and lemongrass chicken are must trys.
I'm not a big pho fan. I love the broth, but don't enjoy rice noodles and their lack of chew. Hai phong gives you a varied choice of noodles so I was a happy diner! They are not the cheapest but the broth was very clean, flavourful, fresh and light. They had the most tender and fresh beef balls I've enjoyed in a pho. Beef sashimi was flavourful (think butter beef) though some slices were on the tough get side. Very clean, bright design.
This is probably my favourite Vietnamese restaurants in downtown Vancouver for pho. It's clean and modern - which I feel is hard to find in a Vietnamese restaurant. There's an extensive menu for all things Vietnamese - pho, bahn mi, rice dishes, etc. The only downside (for me) is you can't pick your pho noodle bowl size - I would like for there to be different price options for small vs. large sized bowls.
I've been here about six times so far, and always had a consistently good experience. Unfortunately, I've only ever had one dish here, which is the Curry Chicken Pho, I can't not order it. It's one of my favourite soups in Vancouver, would 100% recommend trying it. The restaurant itself is super clean and the staff is always really friendly.
We really like this place. Our go tos are the pho, dry noodles and the beef sashimi. Good service and delicious food. Downside is that the restaurant is small so it gets filled up quick.
