Last week, Food Connections, YVR Foodies and North Shore Culinary School hosted a 6-course themed dinner using rescued food. Rescued is close to but not at their expiry date. The ingredients would otherwise be thrown out since they hit their peak freshness too soon to be sold to restaurants or grocery stores. The event took place at the Discovery Cafe at Jericho Beach which is operated by NSCS.
Social enterprise offers great good at very good prices. This new cafe in the basement of the Jericho International Hostel is a social enterprise run by the North Shore Culinary School and its director, Don Guthro. It's open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The food is simple, superb, and reasonable. I've had the traditional breakfast, the omlette, and the salmon burger. Check it out and enjoy!
