This is a nice place. The food is good, the waitresses are friendly, and there are pool tables, a dartboard, and gambling. There is one problem, though: greed. This pub has been hit with a rezoning application to no doubt build still more ‘luxury’ investment properties and will therefore close soon.
A lunch in between holiday errands. A mixed assortment of people with lots of table space. It was busy with work holiday parties and only 1 server. She however, did very well and was very pleasant. Standard bar food but mostly fresh made. I had wanted the beef dip but they had run out. So I hastily asked for the apply sampler. Rainbowcrab had the turkey and ham club. It was huge and very good. I enjoyed my sampler particularly the wings and zucchini sticks. I look forward to going back.
Interesting place if only on account of the attached liquor store. You can buy your wine (and possibly beer also - but I'm unsure about that) at the store and drink it at the pub. Subject to a $5 corkage fee, though.
Good Burgers but the Alcohol........ Good Burgers....the other food I could do without - being same Pub Grub Greasy Food.
Good chill out location, with nice and friendly staff. Now for the con, the alcohol prices. This place use to be a go to for drinks and just to jello out. With prices up now, it's a bit stupid. A pitcher of tap beer for 16 ish? It isn't even a giant pitcher, just a plain ol' pitcher (maybe even below average).
For a Neighbourhood Pub, I would think a business owner would want to create a selling feature to attract the locals nearby. That should be their lifeblood right? Who would drive all the way to a residential area on Kingsway for drinks and pub food? No one but locals that could walk there.
All in all....Alcohol prices should be lowered or there should be great specials, because lets be frank - we aren't coming here for the food. So..wheres' the poop?
Good Brunch Buffet. Good service and basic food at affordable prices (about $12). Buffet has mini salmon bagels, salads, eggs, bacon, sausage, bennys and pancakes.
There's a pub?. I actually never been inside the pub before. Maybe I should, but I did go into the Cedar Cottage Neighbourhood Liquor Store. I like the selection of wine and cold beer (I mainly went in there for wine and they had my favorite).
Located at the corner of Clark & Kingsway is Cedar Cottage Neighbourhood Pub, named after the Cedar Cottage Brewery that used to be there…back in 1902. 1902 (ca.) Cedar Cottage Brewery established by John Benson at Westminster Road (Kingsway) and Knight, on the banks of Gibson Creek at the site of the present-day (used to be Safeway building) King Edward Village. - http://www.vcn.bc.ca/gibbys/history.htm View Larger Map Amazing what local history can be uncovered through the internet. Before this find, I only knew of Cedar Cottage as a great local pub (there really isn't much choice in my neighbourhood) that's open late and has a strange floor plan layout. From the exterior, there's a liquor store to the left and a cafe on the right. Stairs lead down to the actual pub, and it's a hole-in-the- wall ground. You see, the entirety of the restaurant is below ground level, but yet it has a patio in the back. Strange. There's a raised seating area, long ba
