2nd Anniversary Party. Well for a newcomer to Vancouver looking for a fun night out, TCB did not disappoint. They were accommodating and VERY busy. Our waitress was friendly and on the ball. The free appys were delicious and I highly recommend their flatbread pizza which can definitely compete with other fancy pizza places. All in all, a great night out and the band was amazing. Great party, boys!

Love this place. Was super impressed with the food here. Very unassuming.

The menu isn't huge, but what they have is great. One of the best Nicoise salad I have had. Flatbreads are yummy. Tried the pulled pork poutine. Really good. Though more pulled pork flavour than poutine.

Reasonably priced and great service. Will continue to go back.

It's a bar. What more do you want?. First off, I live in the Woodwards building above The Charles. When I heard a bar was opening up directly underneath my unit my first reaction was a cheerful yell of excitement, followed instantly with disappointment when I realized it wouldn't be open for a further 8 months. Never the less, The Charles eventually opened and thankfully wasn't plagued with bad luck and cut corners as the actual Woodwards building itself was.

I've had the pleasure of eating there on numerous occasions since it's opening and have always found the staff to be friendly, prompt and well mannered. The food is delicious and the prices are comparable to many other Gastown establishments. While their "specials" are currently hit and miss, I'm confident that they'll amend them once the SFU facility is in full swing and the students start taking advantage.

The only gripe I have with The Charles is their lack of space for any live entertainment but I do understand that not every bar can cater for those that wish to enjoy local musical talent.

I'm not a food critic by any means, so I don't expect to be treated like royalty when I walk into a place. I don't stand around awkwardly waiting to be seated, I seat myself. Do you know why? Because I'm an average guy that likes to unwind after work with some mates, beers and a great meal... and The Charles delivers!

It’s not often that I get an opportunity to indulge in happy hour. Taking advantage of the lower prices means working earlier, having a later lunch or an earlier dinner. In fact today we were an hour too early and opted to wait for our 3-6pm window to indulge in $4 beers or $4 glasses of wine, and tapas specials at $6. The place was ultimately chosen based on what came up when I googled “happy hour” as well as its proximity to us. Working downtown you are in the hub of happy hour and have your pick of more than a few dressed up bars, each offering what I deem as crafty pub fare. My guest was sold on “Charles Bar” after hearing they had deep fried pickles and deep fried risotto balls. The rush hour crowd was driving away from the city, thus making parking decent with meters up front and around each corner. The restaurant itself was large. Inside, the room was anchored by their island bar, right in the middle of the open space. On either ends of it was additional seating in areas flanked out. Benches, booths, and high tops in corners offered both individual and large group settings. Hard wood floors underfoot, wood plank beams overhead, and varnished repurposed wood tables under arm. My guest of the afternoon described them as being “earthy”. They well matched the simple theme, along with the concrete pillars and florescent light bulbs squared off in cages. The menu offers your pub classics: chicken wings, gourmet burgers and fries, calamari, nachos, pizza, and weekly specials at 1 to 2 dollar discounts. The happy hour menu offered only a smattering of the above, but in my opinion, the most interesting of them all. A pizza with cheese and figs, a braised and grilled pork belly sandwich, and of course all the deep fried, one biters. “Beer pickles”. Beer battered pickle spears with a lemon dill yogurt for dipping. They were fresh from the fryer, each spear had a smoky hotness, the kind that burns your tongue if you go recklessly biting into it. Each pickle quarter pos

If you're coming here to watch a game, expect to stand. The other half of this restaurant is to lounge. The only decent thing to eat here is the tuna salad for $15.00. It's worth it, if you're lazy to make this yourself. Take out is not bad, but if you had to tip and tax a $20.00 salad is definitely not worth it here. The quality of food here is good, but for value wise; you should do take out only. Overall: 3/5

So, despite the fact that I *did* get an invite to the opening night of The Charles Bar (and I actually have been invited to tweetups there, and stuff), I had not made it. Embarrassing, if you think about the fact that The Charles Bar is located at the Wo
