“Pepper Lunch” is a fast food franchise, popularized within Japan with over 200 locations. They host several restaurants out of Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Malaysia, etc; and more recently, Canada. BC is home to three, two of which are within Richmond, but today I was at the third, in Vancouver. Invited to help celebrating their second year anniversary on Cambie Street.
Grilling meats on the hot plate is fun and keeps your food warm throughout your meal!
Portions are on the small side but justifiable considering its food quality and the fact prices ranging between $10 and $20.
A couple of years ago, the first Pepper Lunch location in the Lower Mainland opened up in Richmond. This chain of DIY Teppanyaki originates in Asia where they’ve got hundreds of outlets. Recently, they opened up a shop in Vancouver along the busy Cambie Street corridor. This new location feels spacious due to the high ceilings but the drawback is that it gets quite noisy from the din echoing in the open space.
Our experience at Pepper Lunch was decent. We thought the food was mediocre and that it could be improved in quantity and price. Prices for food ranged from $10-$15 and soft drinks are $1.50 with free refills. Three of us ordered the beef pepper rice, and our other two friends ordered the salmon steak and the beef pepper pasta. The food was served quickly and we were impressed by how it was served on the sizzling hot plate. The atmosphere was very bright and light, the environment was clean and we were seated quickly after ordering our food at the front. We arrived around lunch and it was quite busy but the staff was very efficient in seating us. We would have greatly appreciated it if the workers checked up on us after we received our food.
When I go to a place where I have to "cook" my food, I'd expect the spices and sauce to be really good. As it is quite bland without sauce, I expected the sauce to be the selling point of this restaurant, but I didn't find them special. It seemed like it was simply raw beef and rice thrown together with some corn, which is something I can throw together easily at home.
First time trying this place i ordered the Kobe Burger & Sliced Angus Steak for $13.95 got seated immediately got my order,it comes sizzling on an extremely hot cast iron pan the beef was sooo melt in yo mouth tender and very delicious i would definitely come back for future meals
I normally eat fast food place for lunch or dinner, if I am hungry and by myself and do not like to wait for my food. One of my favorite places I like to go if I am in the Broadway and Cambie Street area is Subway or Wendy’s. Some times, I am tried of eating fast food place. So I go to Pepper Lunch which is like a fast food place with service. I like ordering their Curry Pepper Beef with Rice. The service is pretty fast around 20 minutes wait.
There are two locations one in Number Three Road in Richmond and the other is in Cambie and West 7th Avenue in Vancouver. I have not seen the Richmond location, but I go to the Cambie Street and Broadway Street Area once a month. The staffs are easy to talk to. The place in clean and the price are reasonable between $8 to $20 dollars depence on what you are eating. Remember, it is not fast food. There is no cheap place to park a car in Vancouver. I like the location of the bus stops which is in front of the place and close to the Canada Line. There are no more than 20 small tables.
That is all for now.
This place is crazy good. Amazingly good. The famous beef pepper rice is super flavorful and they use only Angus grade beef. The food is delicious and most importantly affordable. My pepper burger was super moist and was only $9.95 with an egg. The owner got into a full conversation with my family and he told us all the great details about Pepper Lunch! They use the most expensive grade of Japanese rice and they use Japanese large high grade eels from a Japanese supplier for their unagi. Even the tiniest details are quality. Even the corn is fresh frozen, not canned. They The servers were always asking us if our food was OK! The place is spacious and well designed, and very comfortable. I would come back at any time! Pepper Lunch definitely prefers quality over quantity. What's with all the haters?
First time going to the Cambie location. Its a nicely renovated location that can seat quite a bit of people compared to the Richmond location. Staff are friendly and when we got to the till to order, he told us about the lunch specials that we didn't even know they had. Had the daily lunch special - kobe burger with steak combo (with drink and miso soup) for $13.50. It tasted great, especially with their sauces, but I thought their kobe burger just tasted like a regular burger patty. Always a treat to go!
i dont know why people are such haters, this place is awesome, its reasonably priced if you dont get a ton of add-ons to your main dish, and the service is fast & great
the curry sauce is one of the best, a must try, although i would not recommend the tea here, they just use regular teabags
