Friendly staff, great bar service and the snack food completely compliments the drinks. Would also like to appreciate their efficiency, since I wanted to grab a drink quickly before heading out for something and was in a rush, and they made it so effortless. Loved the whole experience!
My partner and I have just moved into the Kits neighbourhood, and we decided almost immediately that this would be our local. They have a great dive-y atmosphere, and killer burgers to boot (try the one with Guinness, it will leave you so full and satisfied it may hurt a little bit). The music is loud (but usually awesome throwback punk rock), and the staff is super helpful and really sweet. I definitely recommend checking this out. Oh, and the $4 drink deal doesn't suck as well!
Decent food selection, good service, and decent prices. These are some of the traits of some of this drinking establishment. Although they do have some room for improvement with their beer selection.

Everyone has a drunk tell. For some it’s starting to slur words. For others it’s starting to get really loud. Drunken Master’s is that he won’t stop buying shots for you. My tell – the one that only emerges when I’m truly super wastey face – is that I secretly buy meals for everyone. No, no. I don’t mean that I secretly pay the bill. I literally place a secret order with the waitress for another round of entrees for every single person at my table, usually immediately after we’ve all just finished eating dinner. When I’m drunk, I apparently (a) get very generous and (b) forget that not everyone is a monster like me and needs a second entree after finishing their first. I also generally pay no consideration to food allergies or dietary restrictions when placing these orders. Beef burger for the vegetarian! Pork meatballs for the Jew! Fondue for the lactose intolerant! Ugh. To protect my wallet on nights like these, I like to make sure that I go somewhere cheap, but with decent food and good drinks. And Elwoods fits that bill perfectly. It’s a small dive bar in Kitsilano with dark lighting, a grungy appearance, and friendly staff. Unlike a lot of the other bars in the area (*cough* Coppertank), it tends to attract more of a 30+ crowd which is always a plus for me. And to top it all off they have cheap wine ($3.52 glasses on Tuesdays!), and some really great food specials throughout the week (33 cent wings!). The food is your typical bar fare, with the exception that duck is all over the menu. Duck wings, pulled duck tacos, duck flat bread…I asked about it once, and was told that the owner just really likes duck. Good answer. Princess Rainbow Sparkles and I spend a lot of time there since we live so close by and are poor starving grad students with drinking problems. 9 Dressed Up As A 3. Love the food here. Friday night's buck a shuck are the best deal in town. Always fresh and usually Royal Miyagi and they run out so go early.Also love their burgers, they are right up there with the best in the city. Good beer selection. Sunday night steak and fries are only 5.50 and it's better than the $10 steak I would buy at the grocery store. Seriously this is a great place for cheap eats and the staff are all terrific. Kinda love it here.
Great Specials. Went here for wing night (Tuesdays) with some friends. The wings were 33 cents, and were pretty good. Lots of really good craft beer on the menu for reasonable prices, including some you can't generally find at bars. Their craft beer specials are good as well. I had a pint of Hoparrazi for only $4. Definitely going to have to go back one monday for their mussels special
I survived!. This is a small, dare I say "dive" bar that features $4 craft beer specials everyday. On the Friday I went, they also featured buck-a-shuck Royal Miyagi's shucked to order. Despite the sparse looking kitchen and every bone in my body warning me not to, I ordered and enjoyed 3 dozen oysters and now, 24 hours later, I have lived to tell the tale.
Good drink specials, great beer list, and seafood from a dive bar that didn't kill me? Why not?
I love this place! Ok, I've never actually eaten the food BUT they have a great beer selection, awesome staff and cool vibe that keeps me coming back.
Elwoods i think i love you. Im new to the Yelp world but i read a raving review about Elwoods so i thought i would give it a try
I took my girlfriend to Elwood's last Sunday. We arrived around 6 30 and the place was hoping. When I asked the waitress what was going on she replied " It's always like this on steak day" . What is that? I asked. She told me that it was a 6oz New York steak for $5.50. Always the skeptic, we agreed ... we gotta see this! I Had a beer ( pretty decent selection) and she had a caeser; seeing it was Sunday, and that's just par for the course. It's a charming "hole in the wall" seeming to attract all types. Young UBC people, couples, locals, all there. The service and atmosphere where right on point, all and all a good vibe . Then our dinner arrived it was freakin unreal. So good, and only $5.50! We had such a wonderful time we stayed for a couple more drinks and even ate some pie.
all and all we will be back
Along this end of West Broadway, pubs are quite well represented. Perhaps its due to the relative abundance of residential areas just blocks off on each side of this corridor, and the proximity to the University of British Columbia campus.
