A Vancouver located go to place for Taiwanese food. Taiwanese popcorn chicken, potstickers, hot and sour soup and braised pork on rice with an egg are a must here. Potstickers take 20 mins so order them as soon as you sit down. Their drinks are okay. Their garlic dipping sauce that comes with the potstickers is the best...if you love garlic.
My girlfriend and I have read the reviews here and wanted to try it out. There is free parking in the back, but it is limited. There's still plenty of parking all around.
Our services were great. The restaurant is also very tidy and clean. I heard great reviews about the three cup chicken. I ordered this dish and it comes with rice and side dishes, at a very reasonable price. I loved this dish wow! If I was really hungry I would add another bowl of rice. I loved the savoury chicken with the ginger. I had a little cold, so this meal was terrific. Very comforting Taiwanese dish.
My girlfriend ordered the hot and sour soup noodle bowl... I felt so bad. She didn't enjoy this dish at all. She didn't want to waste food, so she packed it to go.
Would I come back?
Yes to try the spicy beef noodle soup bowl and three cup chicken.
We also noticed on the napkin that this place is affiliated with uncle lu.
Today finally decides to taste the Taiwan famous snack WanLuan pig's feet
It is honored as one of the best Taiwanese food! Had 60 years of history!
Ten years ago a friend once invited me to eat and was sternly refused by me, because i always thought that woman gnawing pig's feet could be a little embarrassing.haha
After eating a scrap to know that i was absolutely wrong.
A traditional way of Marinated pig's feet even if not dipped in the shop's famous Mi Zhi sauce, tenderness of the skin plus the crisp of the meat, sweet and tasty, not greasy at all. and more importantly : The server intimately sliced these meat into scraps, inside the tray, very well refined!
Finally with the selected passion fruit ice drill(micro sugar), mmm, matches certainly!
Isn't the weather bad or what? doesnt matter cause i am happy!
Oh right! It is named under the name of it's owner : Uncle'Lu

○good food
○limited parking space
○average price
○if I had to choose 1 dish : spicy beef noodle soup
○would i go back ? Yes
Honestly whenever I come here, I always get the salted peppery chicken noodle soup and it never disappoints. Always comes seasoned, crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside with crispy basil. The Chinese "oil" noodles they use goes well with the chicken. I never get the bubble tea though...
After the walk at QE Park, Ben suggested to take the Canada Line to downtown since the day is still early. Canada Place was buzzing with tourists as there were 2 cruise ships at the dock. These cruise ships are huge, like an apartment block. Sea plane cruising in the Vancouver Harbour dock. Water Fountain at Waterfront Center overlooking the Cruise Ship dock at Canada Place.
Excellent quick and comfy Taiwanese food!
Got the braised pork on rice appy (easily enough for a light meal), it came with a braised egg and super flavourful braised pork belly and sauce on rice.
Tried the famous wan luan pork hock in a rice meal, it was good but a little odd with the spicy garlic dip. Personally I liked the skin/rind bits but the meat parts were lean and cooked a little too dry. The side rice and veggies were a great addition to the otherwise meaty meal.
The pudding milk tea was fantastic👌 like a thicker creamier version of a regular milk tea.
I've really enjoyed everything that I've tried here. Although they use alot more herbs than other Taiwanese restaurants, they us them well in order to elevate their dishes. I especially like their fried foods as they always come out near perfectly done. Overall, Corner 23 is a great place to grab a quick and cheap bite in the Cambie area.
The past few days have been HECTIC. I have 8 written assignments, 1 presentation, and 3 final exams...and they're all due this/next week! LORD HAVE MERCY. Sigh...such is the life of an university student. While everyone's out enjoying their Easter weekend, I've been cooped up at home ~ writing essays like a MANIAC. Essays are the worst.
On the bright side...school ends in 2 weeks!! YAYYYY!
Anyways, I went to Corner 23 twice in the past month on my way to UBC! I really like Corner 23 ~ the food's pretty decent and the prices are super reasonable! On top of that, it's right across from King Edward Station AND the bus beside Corner 23 goes straight to UBC (super convenient!)
I love this restaurant. The Braised pork with rice and the pork hock is my favorite. There signature dish the is the Pork Hock with the special sauce. They get full during lunch and dinners and especially the weekends. I would recommend this restaurant to everyone but the parking is really bad around the area.
Ahhh I'm Taiwanese, but I have yet to try an oyster pancake in Taiwan. After watching Corner with Love I've always wanted to try it and I wasn't disappointed. The other two dishes were vegetarian, I always find that Taiwanese restaurant have a decent amount of vegetarian food. The dishes were pretty good, I shared the tofu 3 spice dish as well as the vegetarian ham sweet and sour dish. I really like the ginger they use in the 3 spice dish, you can just take the rest of the ginger home and make your own dish reusing their ginger. The service was alright, it was funny because one of the servers spoke to my dad in Taiwanese once and my dad was so so happy. He was like I barely meet people as young as you that are so fluent in Taiwanese. XD If you come though, beware of the washrooms they aren't the cleanest.
Corner 23 was great. We got some great recommendations from the waitress who suggested some of their house favourites, the Deep Fried Chicken Nuggets, Wan Luan Pork Hock, Stir-fry Taiwanese Cabbage and the Chicken with Three Spice Sauce. They were all good recommendations and I thoroughly enjoyed my meal. Looking forward to coming back here and trying other items on their menu!
I'm a fan of their famous pork hocks, which I tried at Uncle Lu's (their sister store) in Richmond, so I had high hopes for Corner 23! Thankfully I wasn't disappointed! :D Even though their menu is exactly the same, I feel like Corner 23 gives off a bubble tea cafe/teenybopper vibe, whereas Uncle Lu's seems more "high end" (is it just me?) I think it has something to do with the layout of the store: Corner 23 is laid out like a quintessential bubble tea cafe, and they have Justin Bieber songs playing in the background (which obviously helps) ;)
Their pork hocks were really tempting, but I wanted to try something different, so I ordered their hakka pork instead, after seeing a picture of the dish on yelp! Like always, I asked for 2 bowls of rice hehe. So I ended up eating 3 bowls of rice - 2 bowls of white rice and one large bowl of Ru Lo Fan ;)
Yesterday I went to their Richmond location (Uncle Lu's) and they said they couldn't substitute the side dishes for the rice, but at Corner 23, they said that they could! I guess it depends on the management and who's working that day.
The guys serving me were really nice! I ask a lot of questions (what are the ingredients in this, can you omit this?) because of my allergies, and the servers didn't look annoyed at all! They were really polite and courteous throughout my entire meal! :)
You have to LOVE rind and fat (and garlic) to enjoy this dish. It looks like a simple dish but it sent us over the moon. That sauce is intense! So zingy, almost spicy with the amount of garlic essence jammed into it. You’ll be feeling, tasting, and smelling that garlic for hours afterwards. We should’ve got a bubble tea to cleanse our palates :/
I absolutely love the food at this place. Nothing beats yummy deep fried Taiwanese food. Their Taiwanese style black pepper steak with fried egg and also ramen noodles. Salt and pepper mushrooms is also a rare find since the only other place I have had it is in the night markets in Taiwan and I am constantly craving these.
Overlooked Gem. It's easy to assume that this is just another hole in the wall serving generic chinese food, until you read the Chinese Characters (Bandan Pork Hock) I always have time for pork hock!. I was not disappointed. The quality of the food was amazing, the pork was done just right and the dipping sauce was perfect, absolutely perfect. This is also the one place in town that does Shredded Pork and Salted Vegetables Soup properly. I was not expecting Taiwanese food of this cailber, You must give this place a try.
My initial impression could not have been more wrong.
Thumbs Up. Overall taste is good (8.5/10), definitely worth eating in terms of portion and price.
Good Eggplant Rice Meal and Sanbeiji. Their combo meals are a good deal and I always get one of three. The basil eggplant, the Sanbeiji (3 cup chicken) or the Mapo Tofu. They are solid. Some may complain that the Sanbeiji is too boney, but personally I like it that way. I also like how the ginger is crisped up. Don't come here for the XLBs or Beef noodle soup. Their chicken nuggets standard. They're famous for their pork hock, but I don't think it's the best pork hock I've ever had. The garlic sauce is good, but otherwise I don't think it's worth the fame. I'm neither here nor there about their drinks. I Service is usually good, even with kids at your table.
Yummy Pork Hock. We have been here a number of times and we always come here for the Wan luan pork hock. This dish also comes with some spicy garlic sauce on the side which compliments it well. The pork hock is a little crispy and it's just the meat so there are no bones and no messy eating. We have also tried their hotpots before, which weren't that great. Bubbletea here is not our favourite and we usually don't order it when we are here. This place does get pretty busy during dinner time and parking in the back is limited. Pricing wise: It's a little more on the expensive side.
Delicious food done quickly. Food was arriving at our table very soon after placing our order. Out of the many things amassed before me, my favorites were definitely the "Chinese Pancakes with Green Onion" and "Wan Luan Pork Hock." Another keeper are their "Shanghai Style Mini Pork Buns." Once again, it seems like this is another Chinese restaurant relying heavily on MSG.
Even with this in mind, I suggest giving Corner 23 a try.
Nice place for bubble tea. The place makes relatively nice bubble tea. The pearls are chewy and the drinks are tasty with lots of varieties you can choose from. Every time I go there it's always packed with customers. Reservation for big tables would be a good idea!
The only Taiwanese food in the area...I think. Recently I was at corner 23 pretty often. I have to say it's a pretty good place to get your TW staples but man is it busy on Friday nights! Like super busy....I would avoid it altogether actually.
But let's talk food.
This place is pretty famous for their pork hock (foot region). It's suppose to be pretty tender and if you order it individually it's probably pretty good. I've only had it in the set meal but I find the dipping sauce to be too garlicky. Even after brushing teeth you still can feel/smell it.
But I do like their other stuff. I find the popcorn fried chicken to be not as good as Cute Pearl House in Kerrisdale~ this one has more chicken-less bits, but it's pretty good and the portion is quite large. I liked their noodle in soup too~ the soup was pretty good and the noodle was too. I do find that they are heavy on the flavours, which I think they can maybe tone it down a bit. They have the oyster dish (you TW ppl you know what I mean) that is AMAZING!!!!!!! SO GOOD!!!! and huge portion (definitely split with 2 people). For those you don't know we have this oyster dish in Taiwan. It's basically some kind of crunchy potato starch pancake with oyster and cabbage in it. And it comes with this sweet and sour sauce~ highly recommend this place for this dish for people who likes oysters!
Someone suggested the pudding milk tea here but I found their pudding not be as good as Cute Pearl House but it's not bad.
This place does have the novelty of having some of these hot plate dishes that you see in Taiwan but it's not a huge selection and it doesn't taste that much like what you find in Taiwan so if you are looking specifically for that taste you may be a little disappointed.
The service....well when they are busy you have to wait at the door for a while. But in terms of speediness of food coming...it's not bad actually.
One of the best Taiwanese cafés. I've tried most of the Taiwanese cafés in Vancouver and Richmond, and I can say for a fact, that Corner 23 is one of the best. I usually order their rice set meal, which comes with 3 appetizers, which rotates daily. My favourite is the 'salt pepper chicken', fried chicken nuggets Taiwanese style with basil leaves. The food is consistent every time, and the bubble tea is also quite good. Their menu offers a wide selection, from snacks, set meals, hot pot, and many types of bubble tea. Great place for lunch, dinner, or just to meet up for bubble tea!
This place has the best pig hock. Hmmm, even thinking about it get me drooling. I love this place. I'm normally not a big fan of pork, but the pig hock here is to die for. I also really like the drinks here. Oh, and they have a few big private rooms you can reserve.
quick post! corner 23 after church on a Sunday afternoon and we were STARVING. still pretty busy around 3 o clock but were seated quickly and served quickly as well. beef with spicy noodle soup ($7.95): my go to at all taiwanese restaurants. executed quite well with nice thick pieces of beef shank (NOT BRISKET!!! :D :D :D) and the typical taiwanese noodles served just a little softer than al dente. the soup wasnt TOO oily but had a nice spicy kick to it. as i mentioned before, i was starving and finished the whole thing... 3.95/5 deep fried chicken nuggets ($6.50) - i didnt try this but there was quite a large portion for the appetizer size and my friends said it was good! overall: a good place for typical taiwanese food. portions aren't huge but food is tasty and match the price that they are given. 3.95/5
We were looking for a quiet after dinner spot to unwind and chat without interruption. Immediately a bubble tea shop stood out as an ideal location. Most are known for being opening later, and few allow guests to linger well after last call; so long as a beverage continues to be nursed. Today, this was my guest’s choice. A restaurant with an accurately descriptive name. Located on the corner of Cambie and 23rd. This late night bubble tea place was bustling with large groups and steady with single diners in for a later meal. Laughter and chatter could be heard over the faint sounds of Chinese and North American pop playing overhead. The space was light hearted with soft bulbs and heavy with floral elements. It all looked very pretty if you can get past the clutter of it all. Paper lanterns patterned with flowers in bloom, hung down from the indented ceiling. Pale white cherry blossoms with pink centres and lush green leaves lived as a pattern on the frosted glass, separating dining sect
PIG’S FEET . It’s something that you typically wouldn’t encounter during your daily meals. Still, it’s a delectable dish that is definitely worth the trip to Corner 23 ! And guess where this Taiwanese restaurant is located… That’s right, the Corner of 23rd St. along Cambie St. When we arrived, we had to wait alongside two or three other groups. Luckily, we got seated pretty quickly! I didn’t really know what to order, so I left everything up to my dad since he’s been here before. Of course, my dad ordered the Wan Luan Pork Hock ($8.95)! The pork feet are braised in pot of “old water,” a direct translation of the proper Chinese term. Essentially, the old water is a type of broth that is never made from scratch more than once. The chefs just dump half, and then refill on ingredients to compensate for the lost half. This way, the flavours of the pork cooked over the years will remain infused in the broth. As attested by my dad, the pork feet were not greasy at all. Even the fattier parts
I enjoyed the thick Taiwanese noodles and the soup was otherwise tasty. My mango milkshake sans pearls was delightfully tasty. I could taste the mango goodness packed into the shake. It wasn't a spectacular meal, but I found it serviceable and hearty.
The bubble tea is pretty good, not too sweet, and does not taste powdery. I would recommend the fruit green tea (comes with fruit slices, hot or cold). I have never had their pearls (I don't really like pearls, so can't comment). Their slushies are pretty
Went to Corner 23 last week with some friends, one who has been craving for some oyster omelette (Cabin 5555 also has it). I found it strange that our drinks came like these, since we were sitting down to eat not getting take out or anything, but I guess
You know, ever since we stepped into Flo Tea Room, my attention is now focused on BBTs. I have come to learned that BBT is short for Bubble Tea in foodie-speak. It is very much like AYCE and HKSC and TBN. Come to think of it, we serious foodies must unite
