I’m so thrilled to have discovered this place! The quality of food is excellent and the prices are great value for such high quality. The chicken shawarma is THE BEST I’ve tasted in this city! The service is friendly, helpful and fairly quick. There’s also a nice patio to enjoy your meal. Get thee here now!
I am addicted to this place! I live across the street and it is my go to for takeout. The food is great and the portions are large for an affordable price. The restaurant itself could use a face lift but it has a sunny patio in the summer which is a nice plus.

Mitra Canteen是一家位於溫哥華東區的波斯風味小餐館，附近都是些嬉皮士喜歡出沒的食肆和酒吧，所以這裡不難會遇見一些穿著奇裝異服或把頭髮染成斑斕色彩的年輕人聚集，他們雖然外表前衛但大都非常友善。至於Mitra的名字源自一個古印度神祇，而波斯即是現今的伊朗。由於伊朗在歷史和地理關係長期受到土耳其、希臘、和俄羅斯等地的影響，所以伊朗美食多少也有這幾國的影子，甚至有人把它歸納入為地中海菜系。
Mitra Canteen由於地方不大，光憑外觀感覺稱它為外賣店會更貼切些。店內供顧客使用的餐桌只有五張，而門外行人道加設有路邊茶座，在晴朗和暖的日子肯定是個休閒用餐的好地方。店家的地方其實是由一個舖位分割出來的，而另一邊舖位是家酒吧，彼此還有通道相連及共用一個洗手間，由於洗手間位於酒吧的一邊，所以Mitra Canteen的顧客就要多行一步啦！這裡的服務員非常親和友善，而食物的份量又多又新鮮，而價錢大都在$10元以下，非常抵食，怪不得我用餐期間來買外賣的客人絡繹不絕，生意很好
Lamb Shank $14 ~ 這裡的炆焗羊腿又大又好味，沒有過稔而且保留咬勁，比較特別之處是用了俄羅斯羅宋湯的蕃茄湯底炆煮，隨餐另附上一碟飯、雜菜沙律、鷹嘴豆醬和中東沙拉tabouli
Shawarma Plate $9.50 ~ 這個Shawarma阿拉伯烤肉拼盆本來只能選擇雞肉或牛羊肉其中一款，結果店員為滿足我的好奇兩款肉都給了。原來牛羊肉是一種近似午餐肉的絞肉製品，把牛羊肉混和絞碎烹熟後切片，吃起來略帶煙韌，味道一般沒有太大好感。反而烤雞肉既有烤肉的焦香外味道更是非常濃郁，連同灑在上面的辣汁和希臘黃瓜優格醬tzatziki拌勻一起吃就更滋味。隨餐附上飯、雜菜沙律、鷹嘴豆醬、中東沙拉tabouli和兩塊凍的中東口袋薄餅，如果能把薄餅略為烘熱就更好
Cold rainy weather got ya down? The perfect remedy would be some hot rotating shawarma! The subject of today’s visit was Mitra Canteen, an unassuming little shop along Main St., a few blocks away from 49th Parallel. Surprisingly, it’s quite spacious inside as they have this whole 70′s era living room-esque backroom with more stools too!
Tiny little middle eastern canteen in Mount Pleasant. Get the takeout rather than eat in, because there's next to no seating space and even less in the way of ambiance, but oh; the food is delightful. Big, bold portions of kebabs and schwarmas crammed with delicious lamb or beef. Definitely worth a try.
Warm Atmosphere/Great Food. Fresh, gluten free friendly and super moderately priced for large portions. They even have cheap gluten free beer, it's my go to spot on main. You can tell they take pride in their food and I enjoy the variety and the daily specials. Consistently good, healthy and easy on the wallet.

Fine for a falafel + more exotic eats. Mitra does a decent falafel. I think the place has an Iranian vibe to their food, along the lines of Yek O Yek "nekt" door. Food was fresh, service friendly. Small patio so you can sit outside on good days close enough to hear the conversations from the Main Street hipsters who are 2 kewl 2 like, B aware of the environment around them. Silly talky hipsters! Don't U know that everybody who's N txts Yl they walk? You meet the tattoediest people when you look up, blinking, after you run into total strangers as you're strolling.
Snarkrant aside, Mitra offers some enticing daily specials, like stewed lamb creations and uncommon Middle Eastern vegetable dishes. I've read in another review that Mitra is a sister to Falafelly Good at Oak and 16th, but I don't know that for sure, and Mitra's menu seems more complex than FG's. I haven't tried them yet -- Mitra is too close to where I live for me to want to eat lunch there. There are leftovers at home to chew through, eh? But I'm talking myself into trying some of Mitra's non-falafel food as I'm writing this. The place does a lot of takeaway business, so I'll have to try that option sometime, maybe for a midnight shift on the psych ward.
Steal of a deal!. This place is great. It always smells wonderful and the portions are generous for under $10. I appreciate that the tax is included in the price, and I also appreciate how they refrigerate the self serve water. The chicken is very flavourful, and one meal can easily be split between two people. A great little gem in Mount Pleasant.
Smiles all around.. This place appeals to everyone. One day I was there getting take out and in line was a young man in a suit with a briefcase, a smartly dressed middle aged women (getting enough food for the family?), a construction worker getting his "usual" while three excited teenaged girls ate dinner at a booth. You are always greeted with a genuine smile. The food is consistently good, inexpensive and quickly served. No, it's not a fancy place, but you always leave with a full tummy and a smile on your face. Try the Hodgpodge for a sample of all the veggie options on one plate.
