Good Food, Nice Owners. Now a lot of the menu items are named in Portuguese but are described in English, so we split the pork/clam dish, the two were stacked on top of some fries, and might i say they were some of the best fries i have ever had, the white wine oil type sauce thing was magical, and the fries were reminiscent of a great fish and chips joint. The clams were steamed to perfection too. The Piri Piri chicken wings were great and the pitchers of Kelowna Pilsner Lager for 13 bucks is hard to beat. Only beef was the prawns were more like shrimps and they still had their skin/shell on... If you're lucky the owner may serenade you with the aid of a karaoke machine. :)

It's better than it looks on the outside. Casa Verde doesn't look like much from the outside. It's definitely green, as the name says in Portuguese, but it gives off a vibe of mould green, influenced by the tatty industrial street it's on just west of Commercial. Inside it's nicer, homey like a down-home restaurant in the Douro. The food tastes OK in a rustic way too. It put me in mind of a Portuguese version of places I've eaten in in France and Italy where the local truckers and farmers go, but not the tourists (except me.)

I started with Casa Verde's take on soup made with kale leaves. Kale is a Portuguese culinary staple for soups. "Souple"? Theirs was a simple potato broth-y affair with strips of kale leaves. The few thin slices of sausage in the bottom (NOT chorizo, sigh...) didn't add much to the flavour. But it was nice in a sorta country way.

Since I was there on Sunday, I decided to try their weekend-only special, the grilled piri-piri chicken. It cost $13 for a half-chicken, some fried potatoes and a simple green salad. The chicken had a good crispy skin, studded with peppery Portuguese spices. It was hot, but not mouth-rippingly so. Be sure to ask for a bottles of ketchup and piri-piri sauce and mix 'em together for the fries, because they can use some help. The beer was cheap -- $4.75 for a pint from a microbrewery out Kelowna way. Casa Verde isn't as good as Bairrada in Toronto's Portugal Village, but it's better than Nando's. I think. I've never been to Nando's. And I think I'll keep it that way.

Hubby had a craving for Portuguese sardines. Ordered it & he loved it. I got liguini w/ clams in white wine sauce, excellent! Caesar salad was ok. Chorizo was good. Young girl serving us was nice & polite, same for older couple who was serving, too, I would come back for that service. BUT... when I went up to pay for our dinner, the blonde behind the counter was NOT friendly at all. Wife of the chef? I would not return just because of her. Too bad.

Checked out Casa Verde with some friends on a Saturday night. Arrived at 530pm to a very green, quiet room with a few tables enjoying an early dinner. We were greeted and sat at a table and offered fluffy Portuguese buns (I didn't partake since I'm GF but everyone seemed to enjoy them). The room is old and much like a grandma's house; doilies, plastic flowers, etc. We had heard that the roasted chicken that is only offered on weekends is to die for so we browsed the menu for more items to share. The service was somewhat slow but very pleasant. Once decided we ordered the roasted chicken, chorizo and glam entree and green salad for mains and chicken wings & grilled squid to start. To our disappointment they didn't have the famous chicken, chicken wings or the clam/chorizo entree. Total bummer since we figured it was early on Saturday. We ended up trying the quail and salad for dinner which was very nice. Overall the experience was nice. At one point they had live music which was entertaining. The food was delicious and we would definitely come back to try the roasted chicken. Is recommend it but be prepared that you're there for the food not the room. I'll also mention that the bathrooms could use a scrub so a quick in and out is best, don't do too much looking around.

We have tried some Portuguese restaurants in Macau. The quality is very good and after all, they have been revolved to a new cuisine and are no longer traditional. There is one old traditional Portuguese restaurant on Commercial Dr. -  Casa Verde. The furnishings and the decorations are super old…. Yet very popular. Portuguese Bread Very cold…. Pasteis de Bacalhau Deep fried cod fish cake A must order Portuguese snack. Very smooth inside. Yummy!! Caldo Verde Traditional Kale soup, potatoe broth with kale shavings,  chourico slices & a touch of extra virgin olive oil Very very bland. All we can taste is the potato. Sardinhas Assadas  Grilled Imported Sardines Most sardines we see in Vancouver are canned sardines. That’s why we are really glad when we can have a whole sardines here. They are all fat, firm and delicious>3
