On a summer weekend, we visited the punjabi market area to try Shoom restaurant on Fraser Street between east 49th and east 50th avenue. We had reservations and arrived a few minutes early. It was a full house, and there a couple of groups waiting for a table outside the restaurant doors.
I have been to many Chinese restaurants in my lifetime so far. Most of them, I find mediocre/average. Shoom was slightly above average. I liked how clean it was compared to other Chinese restaurants my family has been to. The food quality was also better. They have a really good complimentary dessert - usually the complementary desserts are meh but it was good here!
Located just south of 49th Avenue on Vancouver’s Fraser Street is the oddly named Shoom. This place is quite popular and was already starting to fill up by the time we arrived at 5pm (they were completely full by 6pm). The restaurant seems to be geared to large parties because they mostly have large tables set up. We were afraid that they weren’t going to seat us but then they ushered us past the kitchen in the back and into another dining area next door.
With a bunch of classic Cantonese seafood restaurants in the area, Shoom stands out for its food and “unique” service. Don’t plan to sit and mingle after the delicious dinner...there’s probably other people waiting for your table. The salted egg dish (shrimp/crab or lobster) is famous here. Indulge and get it. Our favourite dish turned out to be the spareribs with chef sauce. Everything was very well presented.
Voted as "the place to be" by the local chinese. We were brought here by our family friends. Aside from street parking there is not much else. Busy restaurant meant a line up for 15 minutes. Dishes made up for more than as they were polished within minutes. Absolutely amazing food. Came twice during our stay in Vancouver.

This Chinese restaurant deserves a 3.5 star. We decided to try this restaurant we wanted to celebrate Mother's Day with my wife's family because my sister-in-law loved it when she came with her husband's family.
They initially had trouble finding our reservation, but all was resolved. We were lead through the galley and, to my surprise, there were two semi-private rooms in the back of restaurant. The room we were in is large enough to seat approximately 30 people. I think we got better service by coming here for an early dinner. Our server kind of disappeared when the restaurant filled up. The kitchen must've been slow when we placed our order because everything practically showed up at once. The lack of pacing by the kitchen made the dining experience somewhat uncomfortable. We were juggling plates because there wasn't enough room on the table and food got cold before we could get to it.
The food was fairly standard for Chinese seafood/banquet-style restaurants. There weren't any dishes that wowed me. There was nothing that I must have again, but ingredients were good quality and cooked nicely. My only complaint of the whole meal was the fish and tofu with black bean sauce. There was too much sauce which made the dish unbearably salty. I actually had to scrape the black bean sauce off the fish.
Again this is a very busy place. So come early dinner and make a reservation. Overall, we were pleased with the quality of food and enjoyed our server's sense humor while we had her attention before the dinner rush.

Solid eat. Food is served. Good price. Good portions. Nice staff. Typical Chinese service. That is to say there might be a little waiting. Soup and dessert included with meal. Cash only place.
Definitely one of the best Chinese restaurants in Vancouver area. Their special chicken were extraordinary. The crab with salted duck egg was made just right - you can enjoy the savory aroma of the egg yolk but still can taste the freshness of the crab. So far I will recorder most of the dishes tonight. There are many dishes that I wanna try again. Will visit again for sure.

雅苑食府是一家只供晚飯和宵夜打冷的粵菜館，開業至今還未足一年，但已有相當多的捧埸客光顧，所以天天晚上都座無虛席，如果不想輪候最好預先留座。在溫哥華的中菜館多不勝數，而生意好的一般都有“好吃實惠”的特點，這家也不例外。它的出現讓我回憶起已結業的「冠樂美食之家」，它們類似之處除了位於同一條路段及天天晚上座無虛席外，泊車困難和價錢偏高的情況亦非常接近，但雅苑的環境和空間比較舒適寬敞
雅苑食府的環境明亮整潔，空間舒適寬敞，由於前身是間印度餐廳Dhoom Restaurant，所有舊有裝飾和傢俱全不適用，結果需要全面裝修來配合食府的中式風格。只可惜門面功夫是做妥了，但從舖後停車場穿過廚房前往餐房的通道又窄又迂迥，雜物存貨四處堆放，奉勸各位儘可能不要走後門啊！店家每晚9時後開始提供宵夜打冷，打冷小菜每碟平均$7-12元外更加送白粥，下次有機會一定要再來試試。最後切記帶足現金埋單，因為店家只收現金，信用卡及銀行卡全部不接受
