Best Viet Sub in the City, Pho is amazing as well!
Came for a weekday lunch with a couple co-workers. Trendy interior at odds with the neon DTES exterior. I ordered the large bun bo hue, one co-worker had curry chicken with steamed rice, other had one of the beef soups (also a large). Food came quickly enough. The curry arrived first and smelled wonderful. Co-worker said it tasted quite good, although he wasn't such a fan of the tiny chicken bones he had to pick out. My bun bo hue was quite good (not as good as my benchmark bun bo hue at Pho Chan: https://www.zomato.com/vancouver/pho-chan-new-westminster). Didn't catch my other co-worker's review of his beef pho, but I think he was also pleased. Service was pleasant and meal was priced okay (about $12.5/person). Maybe not spectacular, but I'd come again when I'm in the neighbourhood.
Went to Golden Garden for dinner tonight. We just happened to be in the neighbourhood around dinner time. I've been here a few times for lunch. It's an interesting little establishment. It's one of the nicer looking Vietnamese noodle places in town. Fairly clean both in design and physically. Down those stairs you'll find the Chinese Opera Association (or something like that). The members gather there to listen to Chinese Opera. Sometimes you might hear it upstairs, but usually, the background music in the restaurant drown out the opera music. I definitely recommend trying out their subs and will try to remember to go back for their subs and not their Pho next time.
Golden Garden Vietnamese Cuisine / Kim Saigon Sandwiches is an affordable restaurant with amazing items like pho, bahn mi sandwiches, spring rolls, and a lot more. I was introduced to Golden Garden by my coworkers a few years ago and this has become my go-to place for lunch. Take out is quick and I always made sure I get a bahn mi since it’s only $4. Every few months, a couple of my coworkers will have a group lunch and dine in.
This is my go to place in Chinatown when I need a good quick meal that is cheap.
Their pate bahn mi sandwiches are awesome and you can get it to-go for only $4. It tastes awesome and it is even better when you ask them to make it spicy.
Their pho and the dry noodle dishes are good too.
Awesome ambiance, tasty food. The restaurant has a nice feel to it, there was music and the lights are a little dim. The furniture was fantastic and overall it felt like I was in an expensive dining place.
The portions of meat were not that great, but the soup base was superior to other pho restaurants. The noodles were put in the right consistency because it did not end up mushy as I finished my soup.
One thing I also liked was that the food wasn't super duper hot that I can't eat right away. I really dislike having to wait for my food to cool down to an edible temperature. Cons are their spring rolls are a little bit pricey and small.
Overall it was a good experience! Will definitely come back.
Nice delicate broth. This is not a prime dining area so lunch is fairly busy but dinner is not. Located in the heart of Chinatown on Main and Pender. The food is good and well worth a visit. Like the spring rolls. The beef Pho comes in a very delicate broth which is not fatty at all (which can be the case at some Vietnamese restaurants). My only complaint is that the serving of beef was very scant. Great place to get a quick and comforting meal. Service is always friendly.
This is the best Vietnamese restaurant in China Town! Fabulous, fresh and inexpensive. You'd be crazy to go anywhere else. I'm ver surprised by the rating, should be %100 likes.
The best Vietnamese spring rolls I've ever had and cheap delicious pho...dunno why its two $ when a bowl of pho is only 6.25!
Surprised the rating isn't higher. I've been here 6 times and it's been great each time. Curry chicken vermicelli is really good.
I love kim. I love Kim because she makes amazing sandwiches. She just opened this place up with her brother after what seems like a million years of just making Vietnamese subs. The expanded menu so far hasn't disappointed.

Nathalie and I were in the neighbourhood and looking for a quick bite to eat that wouldn’t break the bank. Nathalie has been here previously, and although it might be in a rougher part and may not look like much from the outside, it’s not too bad on the inside. She ordered a noodle bowl while I ordered satay pho. Definitely one of the better places I’ve had satay pho. The soup is nice, thick and flavourful.
