This place blew me away! I ordered take out from them as I've always wanted to try their food having heard good things from friends. Did not disappoint! The food was amazing, I love the fusion of Japanese and Caribbean cuisines. We got the Teriyaki and Jerk Chicken combo, the Okonomiyaki "pizza", and a couple of patties and wow, absolutely delicious for a very fair price. The owner was really lovely - her efforts to run the place all by herself are incredible. Looking forward to dining in and getting take out more often!
The Lion’s Den Cafe is a restaurant that has recently celebrated 18 years. They have some good menu items there, and it is a good place to eat.
The owner recently had a stroke, and his wife was running the place all by herself. Her effort is nothing short of Herculean in spite of her being unable to have fish available, time being in short supply for but one person. I admire her efforts as much as I crave the food. Recommended!
It is a unique place in vancouver, I really like the "mama-papa" place, feel there are lots of stories behind the restaurants. Hope the owner gets better, and continue doing such a comfort food :)
What an awesome surprise as I was looking for a place to have lunch on an early Sunday afternoon. I ordered Ken's Special with shrimp. Great meal. Very healthy and incredibly tasty. The serving was generous and good value. Seating is limited, so I can imagine it being very busy a lot of the time. There's a "Japaribbean" fusion happening here. Smooth reggae was playing softly throughout my visit. Service is casual and friendly. I'll be back for sure. Along with the Mexican restaurant , that makes two great ones that i know of in this block.
This hidden gem is amazing, just UNREAL MAN. Have you ever had a spicy Jamaican beef patty?!?? They are absolutely delicious!!!
They are 2.75each. The owner is ken and the wife is junko, an amazing chef WOW! The decor is beautiful and yes, that's a real lion inside his establishment. If your a vancouverite you gotta try it here, Phenomenal!
They are such a cute couple. Who would've thought Japanese /Caribbean fused food. Absolutely wonderful!
Japaribbean! Can't go wrong with anything on the menu. We hit this place a lot for breakfast, cheap, great and the atmosphere is perfect to start the day. Dinner Id recommend the jerk chicken with a patty to go for midnight snack. Awesome owner as well, you're in for a treat!
Great spot. Had breakfast at the Lion's Den today. What a great spot! The owner, Ken, is great and the breakfast was delicious (especially the potatoes!) and well priced. Will definitely be back!
Brilliant!. Ken is great fun and I highly recommend trying this restaurant.
I had the curried lamb and was pleasantly surprised that it was led by a small but fresh mixed greens salad. Ken came and sat with us and made us feel comfortable in his 14 year plus establishment. The lamb was tender and delicious, to me anyway.
We signed his calendar after he told us the story of his lion. If you are wanting something different, unique and good ... try this one out.
I love this place, the food is great the service is friendly and warm and the over all feel of the cafe is chill and welcoming. You even get to hear a story about their lion mascot and you get to sign a calendar that celebrates your first visit. I will be back again and again.
Warm and welcoming. Finally tried this place last weekend after passing by it many times - and I'm so glad we did! On a cold, grey, rainy winter day, stepping inside into the steamy little room, reggae playing in the background and warm delicious smells coming from the kitchen, made us forget all about the weather! We got a seat right under the gorgeous stuffed lion, and were greeted by the hilarious chef. I chose the jerk / teryaki chicken combo, and it was absolutely amazing - the best examples of both styles that I've ever had. My husband had the goat curry, which was also delicious and spiced just right for him - he'd told the chef "make me sweat, but don't make me cry", and that was exactly what he got! He's still raving about it more than two days later.
As we stood up to leave, the chef/owner yelled that because it was our first time we had to hear the story of the restaurant and of how Junior the lion came to be such a fixture. At the end, we were invited to sign that day's calendar entry and thus become part of the restaurant's history. A great touch, and we will be back for sure, bringing more new people with us!
