The Boss has been around for a very long time now, at least 20 years! I remember coming here as a child. It has your typical Chinese comfort food. There is also a bakery in the front.

Despite the changing landscape of Chinatown, many of the old guard restaurants are still around and Boss Bakery and Restaurant is one of them. I was seated immediately by the very friendly manager who brought me tea and took an interest in my day to that point! This is a good sized room with nice booths many of which were occupied with folks enjoying their morning repast. I had Chinese Ham Congee which is such an amazing way to start the day! Salty bits of ham and just a trace of sesame oil and why don't I eat this at home more often (I have made it with brown rice with decent results)? The kitchen had carefully garnished the bowl with ginger, green onion and a drizzle of oil. You have to love attention to detail! I was tempted by Pan Fried Flying Fish, one of the specials listed under the acrylic table cloth (in fact, the whole menu is there at the table...not a bad idea when you think about it). And these were some tasty salty little guys. A little extra protein to go with my congee. Although more than contented, I was not able to pass by the bakery without buying a snack for later. Perhaps the best Pineapple Bun I have had. I keep trying these things because everyone else seems to like them so much! A very good Portuguese Egg Tart and a Century Egg Puff ( I keep getting these because I am proud of myself for having discovered the allure). I have always wanted to try the Boss at Metrotown but there is always a line up. Why not try the original in Chinatown? A very good idea!
I was wandering around Chinatown looking for somewhere for breakfast during the third day of my trip to Vancouver and I came across this place. It served both Chinese and Western food, including your typical bacon and eggs type breakfast, which is what I vaguely had in mind, but, when I sat and perused the menu, I went east rather than west…
Never judge a book by the cover. This may sound strange but this was the place where I fell in love with the Chinese style beef spaghetti with tomato sauce LOL. It's so good come on! When you need lunch on the go it's perfect and comforting, as well as a lemon ice tea to wash it down ahhh...
The grilled cheese is always a favourite here, and a must-have for every time I am in Vancouver. They bake the bread in house and toast it with a generous amount of butter until it is nice and crispy, allowing the cheese inside to melt. Delicious!
Nice treat, Nice people!. I didn't find the food all that special but I really, really enjoyed all of the desserts and baked goodies that were also priced fairly. We ordered a lot! The cheesecake was a real treat! In terms of food, there wasn't very much available for vegetarians. I wanted a plain congee but what I actually got had bits of fish in it. The service was quick and very nice and the restaurant was spotless.
BEST Chinese Bakery!. This place blows away New Town. Sorry, but there is no contest. If you love pineapple buns, lemon wedge cakes, swiss roll cakes, or sweet cream buns, then this is the place for you. Chinese bakeries are the best and this one rules them ALL!
Friday Night Memories - The Boss. I was there for breakfast with my family a few times on our visits to Vancouver -- the first being in 1992. The food was good then, and when I returned in 2008 it was just as wonderful 16 years on. The Hong Kong style cha-chan-teng breakfasts aren't out of the ordinary, but the style in which they are presented evokes a wonderful memory...having it taste good is icing on the cake.
Cheap and good. The food here is pretty good for the price. I had some type of fried rice which was okay. My bf's drink was worth mentioning though, it was this almond milk drink and it was delicious!
How long has this place been around?! Longer than me, that's for sure haha. What I love about this location is: not only is the food tastier, they have a bakery upfront too! You know what that means right? Dessert!!! They have a huge selection of pastries, bread, and cakes! (Scroll down for pics of the bakery section.) They were having a Lunch Special going on where you get to choose between 2 entrees (Mini Steak w/Spaghetti or Salted Fish Fried Rice), which comes with a dinner roll, cream of mushroom soup and a drink of your choice. We ended up getting one of each and I ended up eating most of it hahaha. This was after dim sum at Kirin. We were all still ravenous after 8 dishes haha Fried Chicken Wings 3/5 stars We ordered this as a side for $3.99 which was pretty pricey for what it is! These things were tiny, but tasty nonetheless.
