Long's Noodle House 小龍記麵家 is a Shanghainese restaurant that has been best known for traditional home-style in the Mount Pleasant neighbourhood. The line up is consistent on any day of the week, but it moves fairly fast.
We can easily say out a few of their signature dishes such as drunk chicken 醉雞, xiao long bao 小籠包 (XLB), beef wrap 牛肉卷. and noodles. The drunk chicken was served slightly warm in a clay cup. It was moist and flavourful. Top-notch in town! The XLB was made to order. It was served in a traditional bamboo basket, and it had a lot of soup with dedicate skin. Super delicious! The beef wrap was rolled with juicy meat and with a touch of cilantro. It was really crispy and perfectly salted.
Long's Noodle House is a lovely, small family-operated Shanghainese restaurant. You can get traditional home-style comfort food at Long's Noodle House at an affordable price. It is located at 4853 Main St, Vancouver, BC.

This is a Chinese shop located on Main Street, near 33rd Avenue. The shop is cash only, the staff actually alerts the customers of the fact by shouting "Cash only" the moment you walk in through the door. The interior itself is quite small and minimal, with maybe half a dozen table, about half of them large group tables. Being a single diner, I got to share one of the large tables with another pair of diners. The menu is quite large, consisting of appetizers, dim sum, noodles and various meat and vegetable dishes. Glancing at the tables around me, I saw that everyone appears to be ordering Tan Tan noodles, Wine Chicken, Beef Rolls, and Xiao Long Bao. I decided to get their Tan Tan with Meat Sauces Noodles and Beef Rolls. The food wasn't exception, though still fairly good, and the prices were reasonable. The service was pretty minimal, although the food arrives very fast and the staff were fairly friendly. This is a fairly solid Chinese restaurant; just be sure to have cash on hand.
Tan Tan with Meat Sauces Noodles ($9.50):
3.5/5
The noodles had a nice bouncy texture. The sauce was flavorful, being mildly spicey and having a slight peanut fragrance. I was a bit disappointed that there wasn't much ground meat present however.
Beef Rolls ($7.95):
3.5/5
The wrapping outside looked a bit anemic, and was a tad too tough and chewy, although still tasty. The filling itself was actually quite a bit like peking duck, except with beef: there was a sweet flavour of hoisin sauce and cilantro/scallions. I could have done with a little more beef, however.
Summary:
Food: 3.5/5
Price: 4/5
Service: 3/5
Overall: 3.5/5

This place is a lesser known cash only place that serves up Shanghainese food. I have a friend who frequents this place so she knows what is the best. We got the beef noodle soup, xiao long bao, beef roll, and the pork rice cake. The beef roll and the giant awesome intact xiao long bao were the real winners. The buns were huge and full of that soupy goodness. The beef noodle soup didn't have a lot of beef in it but tasted fine. The pork rice cake had lesser quality pork but you get a lot of it. You definitely need to come with a few people so you can try out more dishes. Its a solid place to get asian food for sure.
Decided to take a long walk to this restaurant. The place is quite small, and it is quite small. It is also cash only. The pork dumplings were really hot, flavorful and juicy! The wine chicken also very tender and tasty. We also ordered some noodles and they were also quite good.
XLB was 7.5/10. Thin pastry, seasoned meat and a pouch full of tasty broth. Drunken chicken was not bad, but not pretty good, its more on subtle flavours side. Their egg yolk rice is RIP OFF, $17 for greasy rice. Its definietly a side dish that needs a soup or gravy meat to go on top. Dan dan noodles, the noodles had great textureband chewiness
People who whine about bad service, well the place is a dump so shut up.

Long’s Noodle House is a Shanghainese restaurant that has been around for ages in the Mount Pleasant neighbourhood best known for traditional home-style comfort Chinese food from xiao long bao, tan tan noodles, and delicious soups at an affordable price. You could say they’ve earn the reputation of being a ‘hidden gem’ due to their obscure location
Long’s Noodle House is a very… cozy restaurant. That’s the polite way of describing way. To put it more bluntly, the restaurant is a hole in a wall. It has very few seats, and on busy nights, you would have to share table with other patrons. Nonetheless, we’ve heard good things about the food!
It was a sauna in here, like a sweat house but that’s okay, I was just eating a quick lunch here. I was lucky to catch them before they take break after the lunch rush, my guess is they close around 2:30pm as that is when I noticed the entire staff team come out and have lunch together.
Tasty Shanghainese food right here! 😋 The dishes that stood out are the beef roll and xiaolongbao. We came at 6:00 and managed to grab the last available seating on a Friday night. Service was super fast and kind of abrupt as expected of Chinese restaurants.
This place is SO popular, i guess it doesnt help that its really small so goodluck coming here if its busy. That aside, one of the must get items here is the XLB's (xiao long bao) and they do live up to their expectations. I would put this in my top 3 places to get XLB's in Vancouver atm, i also ordered the salted egg rice dish that looks kinda like rice krispies! This was very addicting but not something i could eat alot of because of how greasy and salty it is.
BEST xlb I've had in Canada. Super food, sassy and whip-smart service - helpful to non-Chinese speakers which is a plus. Avoid the lunch rush if you can. The wine chicken is amazing too!
Really small place that you have probably past multiple times but it's so good!!! It's cash only and usually can accommodate two people eating even if it's a busy day, as long as your ok with sharing a table. I really like there xiao long bao an wine chicken. Service is nothing to write home about but the food was out fast and anything we asked for was prompt. All in all a great meal!! worth a wait !!
One neighbourhood favourite in the Little Mountain area is Long’s Noodle House serving Shanghainese and Sichuan foods. It’s a quaint, cash-only, hole-in-the-wall sort of joint where the food is so good people will line up for it.
Great place. Very welcoming servers and they speak perfect english ! Noodles were perfect we ordered the tan tan noodles and spicy beef noodles and it all tasted how they're suppose to be. Would come back !
I came here with high expectations for the food and low expectations for the service considering the reviews I read. However, the food and service were both really good! The servers were nice and friendly.
This restaurant is pretty tiny. When we got there at around 530, we didn't have to wait at all. We were seated at a larger table where another two people were sitting.
We tried the xiao long bao and the stewed beef noodles. We didn't have to wait too long for the food to arrive. The stewed beef was flavourful and the broth not too salty. The beef was nice and tender. The noodles had a nice chew to it. I had been wanting to eat a beef noodle soup for months and this definitely satisfied my craving. The xiao long bao came with a vinegar sauce with ginger. Even after the dumplings cooled the skin remained tender. These dumplings were nice and juicy.
This meal was definitely satisfying and didn't break the bank. I would come back again to try more things.
It was obvious they were only nice to some tables, and impatient to others. Among the things we tried, the XLB and Hot And Sour Soup were our favourite. I suggest coming early (before 12pm) if you want to avoid waiting!
Wow this place is seriously good. My girlfriend and I were blown away. We came here early morning and got seated right away. We ordered the soup dumplings and Holy shit, the best we've had so far in the city, i kid you not. They literally melted in our mouth. The texture is light, soup inside amazing delicious...
Then the beef roll came. It is light and not heavy. Full of flavor and best part, surprisingly not so greasy wow. I've had beef rolls before and they are heavy and greasy, but not here. Then the spicy beef noodle soup to share, very comforting and again, not as greasy and oily like other places. There's gonna be chili oil in the broth but I like it here cause they don't over due it. Food is amazing here, I'd love to come back. Decor is up to date, don't be fooled by the exterior. This was almost a home run except service is on the slow side.
Cash only peeps.
Their xlb and wine chicken are the best in town, but their noodle dishes aren't very good. They're usually busy and have large tables where they sit several small parties together.
My meal in picture: delicious drunken chicken and jellyfish with radish at Long’s Noodle House. Been meaning to go for a long time since I drive by it so frequently and finally stopped in. We also ordered the soup dumplings (xiao long bao) which had a nice thin skin and lots of soup! I ate it too fast to take a picture… Oops! The only thing is this place is pretty packed because the food is good, so be prepared to wait a bit!
Do you want Mouthful of Wang’s? Or suck on some Long’s? I was fine with Wang’s — even very pleased with them. But after trying Long’s for the first time, I gotta say they’re a notch better. And that notch counts for a lot. It was a solo lunch, and I was on a quest to judge Long’s Noodle House on Main Street near 33rd (right beside the famous Au Petit Cafe) by sampling just one dish — their famous xiao long bao (XLB). They’re listed as “25. Steamed Mini Pork Buns” on their menu.
This is our favourite Shanghai restaurant in Vancouver. If you're looking for the best XLB, look no further. We always get two orders because they are that good (tip: order the second one halfway through your meal so they are hot, steamy and fresh).
We also love their jellyfish with lo bok. Their hot and sour soup is quite delicious and good portion size. Their tan tan noodles with meat sauce is decent, but very heavy and rich (due to peanut sauce). Their chow mein was underwhelming, would not order that again.
When we are craving XLB, this is our definitely our go to place despite the long line ups. Price is decent for really good food, expect to pay about $25 for 3 dishes. Service is fine.
Long's Noodle House is a no frills great eats restaurant that hand makes their food located on Main Street. Everything is hand made and absolutely authentic.
It is a very small restaurant that will seat 30 people shoulder to shoulder. Their tables are pretty close together but provides just enough room between you and your fellow diners. The restaurant is pretty plain with no real decor but who cares when they provide such amazing food?
We arrived just past 6:00PM on a Monday night. There was one table open and we quickly snatched it up. It was pretty fortunate because as soon as we sat down, a line started behind us waiting for tables. Service was prompt but isn't really anything to write home about. It was adequate.
We ordered the Xiao Long Bao, Pan Fried Rice Cakes, and Mini Wonton Soup. The dishes came out almost immediately (about 5 mins after we ordered) and they were outstanding. The Xiao Long Bao is probably the best that I've had in the city. It is hands down the thinnest skin and juiciest soup Xiao Long Bao. It came steaming hot so be prepared to burn yourself a little if you bite in too quickly. When you mix it with the vinegar that is provided, it is by far one of the tastiest things you'll ever eat. Simply divine. Keep in mind that these are all hand made and made on the spot. The Pan Fried Rice Cakes were also amazing. The rice cakes were super soft and chewy. They were cooked to perfection and were nicely accompanied with some veggies and some small pork pieces. This dish is really about the rice cakes where everything else was secondary. The Mini Wonton Soup was not mini at all. It had 8 wontons in a clear soup broth. The wontons also tasted hand made with a great tasting shrimp. The Xiao Long Bao, Rice Cake, and Wonton all tasted extremely fresh and of excellent quality.
If you're looking for a 5 star dining experience, you won't find it here. What you will find, however, is a small family run shop that hand makes their foods with excellent quality ingredients. Everything tasted great and you are just left wanting more. Service is decent where you'll be served tea, have it refilled, but there isn't much more you'll get. The place is extremely busy and with only one wait staff, she's already multitasking as it is so it is to be expected.
One MUST HAVE DISH is the Xiao Long Bao. It is, by far, the best that we've had.
Make sure to like and follow if you've enjoyed this post!
I’ve noticed Long’s Noodle House a few years ago when I went to Au Petite Cafe to try their bahn me sandwiches. Long’s Noodle House is right next door! I went pretty late at around 8:30pm so it was pretty empty and they said that they were closing soon so anything we order would be last call. The interior is small and sparsely decorated with one wall covered in a mirror to make it look bigger. The menu isn’t too big but it has all the classic Shanghainese dishes.
Fantastic homemade noodles and dumplings. I love bringing friends here. Always full, but seats come up pretty quickly. Great hole in the wall.
went here on a weekday night and came unprepared well then, went in and looking at the review ordered xiao long bao, and the rice crispies and drunken chicken. the place of the restaurant seems like to be out of no where and the restaurant beside it is a au petit cafe. seems like 2 good restaurants standing side by side is not a coincidence.
the food, the drunken chicken is the first time i've tried it, i enjoyed the cold appetizer which came in a little jar and the chicken is tender and still juicy maybe because it's marinated in a light wine/chicken stock. and definitely is salty, but it's not because of salt, rather i think it's a concentrated chicken stock, really flavourful.
as for the xiao long bao, hmm definitely good, piping hot but at the same time, maybe i'm not a big fan of xiao long bao therefore i think it was good better than most, but nothing memorable out of it. the juice of the xiao long bao trully is there unlike some places. really love the taste of the ingridients inside.
the rice crispies was okay, definitely a snack favorite but everything deepfried can turn bad food into decent and decent food to good food. not it will not make it excellent in anyway because it's hard to determine whether the ingredients are good and the flavours are often heavy.
overall i would come back for a second try, and this time hopefully with a better meal. but for this quick dinner, it was good nevertheless.
It's been quite a while since I've been to Long's. I don't go very often now that they're so busy all the time. I can still remember going for lunch in high school when they'd just opened and it was empty. Those were the days. To be nostalgic, I ordered the Tan Tan Noodles (擔擔麵) and the Steamy Pork Dumplings (小籠包). Then since B was eating with me, I also added the Spicy Wontons (紅油抄手). I would love to go back. If only I were okay with waiting in line. But turnaround is quick so luckily we didn't have to wait long. I definitely recommend simply for their amazing xiaolongbao - and of course everything else tastes good too.
Good, but not the Best XLB around. I thoroughly enjoyed this place. Points for quality, originality and care taken. However, I feel it necessary to address some of the points made by other reviewers. These are NOT the best XLB around. That is not to say that it's bad, far from it, this is my new first choice for Shanghainese. The XLB are good, they're just not a religious experience. I actually want to give far more credit to the Wonton's as they have originality and taste "fresh" in a manner which is difficult to describe. The broths are also done well with no MSG and lots of flavour.
The question of who really has the best XLB needs to be settled though. Anyone with additional recommendations, please email me.
This place though is definitely still worth the stop.
Chicken Hot Pot with Wontons... prepare for a new addiction! FAR BETTER than that horrible (ugh. feh. p'tooey.) Wonton Soup most foreigners get at Chinese restaurants. This is the REAL DEAL! A whole chicken simmered all day until a rich dense broth is produced, filled with Shanghainese wontons, and Shanghainese bok choy. Absolutely incredible during cold weather! We have it every time we go to Long's... it's simple, but once you try it, you'll never order any else! Need to order a day ahead, but it's WORTH IT!
The restaurant is tiny, crowded, and understaffed, especially during peak hours. Be prepared to share a table and shimmy your way between seats to get to the bathroom. Service is fine, given these conditions, so don't go in with high expectations. It's family run, and they try to do everything themselves, so cut them a little slack. If you don't fancy a wait, reserve your seats before you go... even on weekdays. Otherwise, don't say I didn't tell you so!
XLB. If you come during lunch/dinner hours, expect a wait as the restaurant is smalllll. The xiao long bao is the star of the show and is one of the best in GVRD - lots of soup, thin wrappings, delicious. Drunken chicken appetizer is very well made and the soup noodles come in a decent size. Free street parking is a nice bonus too.
Delicious Steam pork bun. Long's Noodle House is a busy small noodle house. Steam pork bun is very famous and you will love them. However, not so into the Beef Roll. It is way too little beef inside the rolls.
Best Xiao Long Bao. Drunken Chicken / Wine Chicken $7.95 4.5/5 - I usually don't like drunken dishes coz of the alcohol taste. This one isn't too strong. The meat is so tender.
Xiao Long Bao $5.95 4.5/5 - thinest in town! One of our friend said it tasted like low quality meat. It was good enough for me.
Beef Roll $5.95 4/5 - It looked like it was deep fried. I don't think so just that the wrap was puffy. I would prefer the beef to be a bit more moist. My piece tasted beef jerky. I prefer the one at Kalvin's better.
Turnip Pastry $5.5 4/5 - It was a little undercooked than how I would like it to be.
Tan Tan Meat Noodle $7.5 4/5 - I'm not a big fan of tan tan noodle. It was more like a spaghetti with meat sauce. I would prefer the noodles to be a bit firmer.
Ham Vegetables Rice $9.5 4/5 - It was flavourful and moist. I usually prefer my rice to be drier.
Fried Dou Miao $13.95 4.5/5 - Taste was good but the dou miao was a bit hard. They might just need to pick out the bad ones.
Wu Xi Spareribs $14.95 4/5 - This isn't as tender as I wanted it to be. It has very minimal vegetables at the bottom. I liked Kalvin's better.
Crispy Rice with Salty Egg Yolk $12.95 5/5 - I had this so many times before but this time I wanted more sauce on my rise crispy. I hope I just had a bad one.
Yellow Fish with Seaweed $25.95 4.5/5 - Chinese fish and chips. This is how I explained to my white friends. The fish was tender. Some of my white friends prefer to have a a sauce on the side.
Wonton Chicken Soup (pre-order required) $25.95 5/5 - Tender chicken and flavourful broth. I would like to come back just for this. I would prefer the wonton wrap to be a bit thinner.
Super fast service. It only took us an hour to finish our dinner. Great service. Sandy is so nice to explain everything to my white friends. I've been this place so many years but I found my recent one to be not as good as the previous ones. I hope I just had a bad day coz I still want to come back. Still the best Shanghai cuisine in Vancouver.
Best Shanghai Dumplings. Super juicy xlb. My husbad got the soup all over his clothes. Better be delicious at almost $1 a piece.
I also love the drunken wine chicken done in a small clay pot.
Spiced Beef with noodle soup was Ok. Beef was 5 spiced and tender and flavourful, but the noodles and soup were very plain and lack lustre.
Small portions but dumplings and wine chicken were worth it.
I don't know why they take reservations, she is losing business this way. She turned down and had 3-4 sets of people wait when there were a couple empty 'reserved' tables. We didn't mind sharing the large table with another family, so we ate right away but others might not be OK with this.
The Chinese deep fried donut is genuine shanghai style. The taste reminds of childhood memories, with lard!!
BEST. Best xlb in Vancouver.
The best.
End of discussion.
The drunken chicken, the soup dumplings and the beef roll are must tries. this place is a very traditional shanghainese restaurant. if you prefer large sizes, this is not the place to go. they serve quality food.
Great food! Small Cozy restuarant. Really liked the spicy beef noodle!
Busy, but efficient take-out. I called in my take-out order and it was ready in 15 minutes, despite every table being full. The food was delicious but I don't think I will bother getting take-out XLB again--even the 10 minutes it took to get home was too long, they had cooled down too much. But the noodles were excellent and well-packaged too, and the onion pancake turned out really good, still piping hot--and they poked holes in the top of the container to keep it from getting soggy, which was a thoughtful touch.
Intimate, authentic and cheap.
Had tan tan noodle and XLB. Both were delicious. XLB were super juicy and the skin was perfect thickness. Deffinately recommend it. Kinda looks like a dump but the food is good
Wife's favorite place. My wife loves the SLB's here (she'll eat 2 orders herself) and rice cake. My favourite is the beef roll. We always order the exact same thing, so the owner know it from memory, and call's my wife "dumpling girl".
DELICIOUS! I almost do not want to write this review so that you won't know about this place or be interested in trying it! Hahaha but the siu long bau's (juicy dumplings) are the BEST here and tan tan noodles are awesome as well. Oh, can't forget the beef wrap! My mouth is watering just thinking about it. Service though is really sh*t. Very blunt and pretty rude but she has her good moments too ;) Tiny place so prepare to wait!
Hidden gem!. What looks to be a hole the wall is really a hidden gem. Always packed for good reasons. This is the first place i've been to in Vancouver that is owned by Shanghainese and makes the closest to perfect xiao long bao. The dough is slightly thicker than what i'd prefer but the filing is soupy and actually taste like the real thing. For that alone I will and have gone back again and again and again and again....
Must make reservation...don't try to come in during rush hours lol, u have to wait 2hrs! Must try this!!!very very highly recommended
REAL honest Shanghai food at its best in VANCITY!!!. I absolutely love this place! This is really honest Shang Hai home-style cooking at its best! The XLB is without a doubt the best in town! Whenever I have cravings for XLB I would run to this spot, and it reminds me of my childhood in Shang Hai. I also have to give a big round of applause to the lady boss here. She is so good at what she does, I don't think anybody can replace her. The place is small and crowded and always a big waiting list, but she handles it so well and always with a simple phrase "Okay, no problem". Recently, I'm addicted to their chicken wonton clay pot, which you have to make reservation and order in advance. It is so good, that I had it three times in a week! So if you want some real Shang Hai food, come here and you will not be disappointed.
Good Shanghai if you can't Go to Richmond. The drunken chicken is a tasty starter and the XLBs are good. Personally, I like the huotie (potstickers) more. The salty egg rice cracker (huo ba) is different and worth a try. Everything is tasty and solid. The specialty whole chicken and wontons is available for takeout. Don't forget to bring a pot from home. They will fill it to the brim (or close enough) with soup for a soothing, cozy rainy night dinner. Sandy is a great host and she really works the room, bussing, ordering and wrappping XLBs.
Delicious food, lovely service. The place is tiny, clean, and has a steady stream of customers.
My friend and I ordered the wine chicken, XLB, and sticky rice with chinese donut, preserved veggies and pork fluff.
DELICIOUS. the XLB have a lot of soup in them. The soup is lighter broth than places like Lins, and has a more gingery flavour.
The sticky rice (chee-fan) came in plastic wrap (whut??) but the donut was crunchy and flavourful.
Wine chicken was OMG kind of good. skin was soft and slightly gelatin-like, and the sauce....my friend almost drank it.
We wanted something green -- the server seemed to sense this and let us know about pea shoot and bok choi dishes not on the regular menu. She got us a 1/2 order of pea shoots (douw miu) - this was epic and tasty.
The server left be gobsmacked by her friendly manner and thoughtful suggestions on food items. She switched from english to mandarin to cantonese with ease and proficiency throughout the meal. We left the restaurant and are still trying to sort out why she was so nice to us.
LOVE THIS PLACE. LOVE IT. I'm thinking about going back for dinner.
Are you craving Drunken Chicken or perhaps some noodles? Then you’ve got to head over to South East Vancouver and visit Long’s Noodle House . It’s a pretty small restaurant with only around 10 tables or so but it always seems to be packed. Another good sign is that 90% of the patrons are of Asian heritage. I always feel comforted going to an ethnic restaurant for the first time if the diners are predominately of the same heritage as the food. It means I know I’m going to be enjoying some authentic food and perhaps try a fish dishes I might not have tried otherwise.
Long’s Noodle House serves several wonderful dishes. Their soya milk is in good quality too.
We haven’t try the dinner there but I think not much choices there.
Some famous dishes in Shanghai cuisine, such as pan fried bun, could not be found in Long’s Noodle House.
However, it’s a restaurant that we will keep visiting again and again:)
The xiao long bao were good. They were pretty big and very juicy.
Long’s Noodle House in the Riley Park area of Main street, has been a favorite of many a Vancouver food blogger. It’s a small, super busy family run restaurant serving some fantastic Shanghainese cuisine... We can’t visit a shanghainese restaurant without sampling the xiao long bao. These are finely minced pork in aspic, wrapped and sealed in thin flour wrappers, and steamed gently until the aspic melts to form a savory sweet soup within the wrapper. These are very well executed. The flour wrappers are very thin, but elastic enough to withstand manipulation with chopsticks. The pork broth is slightly sweet, slightly savory, with a hint of ginger. These are among the best xlbs in town.
Overall, a great place to grab some Shanghai food in Vancouver. Although this is a noodle house, we actually did not order any noodle this time. The four dishes we ordered was perfect for two people for dinner. We do look forward in making another trip just for the noodles!
The mini pork dumplings lived up to the hype and didn’t disappoint. They were a good size and the dumpling skin was pretty thin. These are the juiciest buns I have ever eaten with significantly more soupy broth inside than most other versions.
For being a noodle house, this was definitely a disappointment. We ordered the Tan Tan noodles to give it a try, but noodles were just not up to par. Tan Tan noodles is a peanutty soup base, and this one felt more or less watered down.
The main reason why we had to return here for dinner was for this: the chicken and wonton soup in a clay pot. Goodness, this thing is massive. We each had at least four bowls of soup between the four of us. The wontons inside, stuffed with bok choy, were not life-changing, but the soup was so delicious. It was so rich from the whole chicken, yet not overly salty as these soups may tend to be. I also loved the addition of goji berries.
I really enjoyed the meal at Long's. Their food was authentic and the small noodle house was packed full of Chinese diners so you know it's legit.
Long’s Noodle House is located on Main street right beside Au Petit Cafe . Both of these places are very busy and there are line ups during peak hours. I came here for a family lunch as we heard it has some pretty darn good xiao long bao. We made a reservation since it was for a large party. As the traffic was very busy, we called ahead to let them know we would be 15 minutes late. They were very accommodating and the table was still there as we arrived. There is paid parking in the front and free parking in the street behind the restaurant. The interior is basic and there aren’t too many seats. Always make a reservation. Wine Chicken comes in a little cute jar. Inside a bunch a chicken pieces marinated in wine and is slightly warm. Its one of the popular items on the menu. The pieces were tender and deliciously soaks up the wine flavour. Kids usually don’t like this dish, but its more for older people. My little sister refused to eat it since there’s alcohol. Yellow Fish with Seaweed
PERFECTION! ...An oldie but a goodie Long's Noodle House is a long time local favourite. Eli & Cia highly recommended this place when I first asked where can I find the best XLB aka xiao long bao aka soup dumplings. They both screamed in unision - LONG'S! I finally got to try it today. You'd miss Long's if you weren't looking. Small exterior - nothing flashy - nothing that says - HEY EAT HERE, I'M AWESOME...Fantastic food in a casual and simple restaurant without a lot of seating.
The wontons were firmly wrapped in Shanghai-style skins with Cantonese-style technique. Lots of garlic and ginger in the spicy mix...yummy!!!
You will experience good service with some really delicious food. You would definitely want to go back again, soon.
dre @ Main & 33: My last restaurant meal was appropriately something Chinese. Lewis and I decided to get some Shanghai food. The line outside was really long, so we decided to just get takeout and bring it back to his house to eat. The outside was nothing pretty, so I was surprised at the line up in the restaurant. It was pretty late for lunch too - around 1pm. We got the signature Shanghai fried noodles. This was really good and not too greasy. We also got Shanghai style fried rice cakes. These were much more greasy than the noodles, but still really good. My cousin ordered drunken chicken. I'm not sure if I've had this before. Certainly not in a long time anyway. It was yummy! Finally, who can go to a Shanghai place and NOT order siu long baos. These were not bad and I don't normally have more than 1 in a sitting, so eating three of them was a treat! Long’s Noodle House is a tiny hole in the wall Shanghai restaurant in South Vancouver’s Main street neighbourhood. View Larger Map This place is really small and crowded. Max seating is about 40 people if you don’t mind cozy. We got our own table as there were 5 of us for dinner tonight. It also helped that we reserved a table a few days ahead. If you are going in with a small party, expect to share your table. We were able to sample quite a few dishes. We started with a loaf of fried Shanghai roll. Unlike Shanghai River , you have to request for the condensed milk if you want a dip. This was quite soft on the inside. The drunken wine chicken came in 2 cute little bowls filled with the chicken and wine brine. I believe drunk chicken is usually served cold. This one was warm I think because of the hot wine soup that was used in the bowl. Next is an order of xiao long baos. The skin was quite soft and did not break easily. You still have to be careful when picking these up though. These tasted quite good as long as you are careful not to accidently burn the soup in your mouth. We ordered this giant chicken/wonton soup. There was a whole chicken inside. This was so good, not too salty at all. You can tell the flavour is not from MSG. There were about 10 wontons and when it arrived it was still boiling. Next is the fried vermicelli. The owner asked how spicy we would like it and we told her less spicy. The vermicelli was quite chewy which is our preference. It was cooked with some ground pork. It got a bit too saucy on the bottom though but flavor-wise, it was done right and mildly spicy as we requested. The waitress recommended this sp
Long's Noodle House has been on my "hit-list" for far too long. It's a tiny, easy to miss spot on Main St. between 32nd and 33rd with a great reputation for their Shanghainese cuisine. Don't be too dismayed by the shoddy exterior. Long's is another one of those places that puts emphasis on their food without much attention paid to aesthetics…my favorite kind of place! We arrived during the noon-hour on a Monday. The restaurant was about half full. Before too long, it was packed. Our friendly server/owner, Sandy, was running the floor single-handedly. When I told her we were going to order about ten dishes, she didn't bat an eye or even grab a pad of paper. As I reeled off our choices, she simply tapped a fingertip for each one. Amazing, really. Our first dish is a must-order here. The Wine Chicken is served at room-temp in a beautiful ceramic crock. Chicken legs are poached in Shaoxing wine, broth, pepper, ginger and a bit of sugar. A great display of simplicity. A sensational way to

This endearing hole-in-the wall has become a regular spot for me. Their take on Shanghai cuisine is generally excellent and humbly innovative. The service is also excellent – Sandy, co-proprietor and server could be one of the best servers I have ever see
A few weeks ago, I made a call out to Friends of Chowtimes if anyone would like to join Suanne and I to check out yet another CRA (Chinese Restaurant Awards) award dishes in Long’s Noodle House. Thinking we might just muster 6-8 people, I went to Long’s a
Today for lunch, after a couple of unsuccessful closed thai restaurants, we went to Long's Noodle House next to Au Petit Cafe on Main St. On the outside, it's pretty hard to see and usually overshadowed by the popular success of the viet restaurant next d
