The signature congee 蠔豉皮蛋瘦肉粥 is always the must-eat item here.
I can see at least 3 tables of customers enjoying lobster at 11pm. 愈夜愈熱鬧!
It is an ideal place to enjoy late dinner on Friday night. You will not feel lonely as there is always lots of Cantonese speaking hk people eating together at late night.

Ho Yuen Kee is a traditional Chinese restaurant located in Fraserhood in Vancouver. Among their extensive Chinese menu, they are best known for their seafood-notably the Lobster Sticky Rice.
We were craving for some wonton noodles since it’s been a while since we been to a Cantonese style restaurant for lunch. We thought of Ho Yuen Kee (HYK) along south Fraser street in Vancouver since they are known for there dumplings. We got there late Saturday afternoon after 2pm and didn’t have to wait for seats as the lunch time crowd had already dispersed. Their prices looked rather reasonable as various bowl noodles there can be had for under $7.
Good Chinese restaurant that's always busy with lots of customers - food is decent. For their 19th anniversary of being in business, they're currently offering a 10% discount (if paying by cash) for VIP members. Anyone can sign up for VIP membership if their bill before tax exceeds $100.
After trying the Lobster Sticky Rice at Flamingo House, we were interested to see how this dish fared at other restaurants. I’ve seen plenty of pictures of the Lobster Sticky Rice at Ho Yuen Kee on Fraser Street on social media so I figured this would be a good place to try out. Ho Yuen Kee is a smallish restaurant and, due to how busy it gets, the tight quarters is a bit annoying (although not unexpected at some Chinese restaurants). They really need more servers here because service was sloooooow!
The lobster on sticky rice was so good and I had it for takeout. I've only been here once and haven't tried the food fresh but I would eat the sticky rice (even without the lobster) every time I visit. The rice was really soft and has great flavour. I had noodles and vegetable dishes too but it was alright (also takeout which may affect the quality).
I've heard people ranting about this place. The lobster and sticky rice is very popular here and that I should try it. First impressions going in, the place is set up nicely. Service is actually decent and when I asked what are the chefs recommendations our server also mentioned the lobster dish. So when the dish came wow... Visually it looked amazing. However the sticky rice wasn't what I expected. It seemed to be missing a savory element. Lobster is nicely done Cantonese style. But in the end I'm glad I gave it a try. All the festivities surrounding Chinese New Year and all the food that accompanies it, had me wondering what is there for good Chinese in Vancouver? I have always just relied on my parents to choose a restaurant and tell me what’s good. But today I was with a friend. He would be giving me a different perspective on Chinese cuisine, and a different opinion on what he thought was good. Growing up in Asia he has a fair idea of what authentic should taste like, and by comparison, what is only passable.
Went here for a small dinner like only 5 of us, pre ordered the necessary items, the lobster with sticky rice and also the wintermelon soup :) definitely i had planned this for 2 weeks ahead and need to preorder the items, hmmm atleast 1 day or 2 days before now i can't remember. the place is definitely not in a busy street, easy to find parking, and the staff were friendly, place is relatively packed considering that i went there on weekdays night. would recommend reserving a table as well.
Knew this place from another foodie who also recommended this restaurant and she mention that need to order a few dishes like sticky rice with lobster is a must.. so ordered it. no hesitant i trust my foodie source. :D
the food, as for the sticky rice with lobster, it's fresh, love the sweetness that is from the lobster, and on top of that there's the sauce on mixed together with the sticky rice and the whole dish was delicious. there's sweetness from the sticky rice as well as it's cooked to the right temperature and brings the aroma of it.
the wintermelon soup was definitely not bad as well, as they have prepared it as well, it came in with a golden wintermelon soup covering which is very unique i'll say, very good display the taste, definitely a good combination of meat and wintermelon along with other ingredients as well. hmm although i must say that the taste of the food is not as good as layered as the one that i have in koonbo, but this one is definitely not bad too.
got veggies, yeap they cooked it right, definitely good cook.
and overall i must say, that the overall food is great, nothing is bad, but at the same time the price of the food, hmmm the sticky rice with lobster is definitely worth it, the wintermelon hmmm pretty good, this is my second time trying wintermelon soup in a restaurant, so far it's okay for this one. definitely recommend the place :)
On a wintery sunday evening, the family met for dinner at Ho Yuen Kee on Fraser Street (at East 46th Avenue). It’s a busy little place, and we had to wait about 10 minutes for a table, even though we had reservations. We started with one of the restaurant’s signature dishes. It’s lobster on sticky rice.
So this place was getting a lot of buzz for its lobster and sticky rice dish, so I had to try it, and it was weird the first time. I didn’t love it immediately, so I came back a week later and had it again, and it definitely grew on me, so I am definitely coming back for a third time to see how I feel about it.
The rest of the Chinese food here is pretty decent, pretty standard dishes like peking duck etc. – I also really like the handmade noodles here, and the wontons also, which were surprisingly good for such a saturated market here in Vancouver.
One of my favorite places!!!!! The pre-ordered dishes are the best, for example the fried shrimp ball, winter melon soup, etc.
The service is good. The food is freshly made and very good taste.
However, this place is very noisy and crowded; and the tables are squished together, just like a typical Hong Kong style restaurant.
I've recommended many friends to go. And they all loved it. Make sure you reserve the special dishes when you make reservation. Those are what made this restaurant different.
Best chinese food ever!!! Servers are wonderful and the manager/owner (?) seems super hard working. He is really nice and my entire family had a great time. I defs recommend the lobster rice, wintermelon soup, and the alaskan king crab were by far the favourite! Not to mention, the dessert is AMAZING. best tofu and milk pudding ive ever had. Amazing is an understatement cause the dessert is literally to die for. A true hidden gem !
Tasty authentic food for a good value. Fresh, tasty and well presented food at reasonable prices. Service is good, and while wait times can be long, it's a small price to pay for the experience you can get here.

Decent prices for good chinese food! First of all, I love their tea! I also always come here for their won ton. Recently had their Peking duck (wraps plus lettuce wraps) and it was up there with fancy banquet duck dishes. I've never been disappointed with any food from here! This is probably why there's always a wait for a table. But it's worth it!
Large group for dinner. We had a rather big group and the restaurant was still accommodating plus the service was pretty attentive with replacing our plates and refilling tea.
Also ordered more food during the course of the meal which they brought up promptly as well plus the food was pretty alright in my books.
Delicious food! Seafood is really good here, lobster, king crab, crab. Tried the peking duck here too and enjoyed it as well. Its always busy so try to make reservations
The eats are in Guangzhou. and they brought it with them to Fraser Street. Good. Cantonese. Cooking.
Great quality of food and service at a very reasonable price. Ho Yuen Kee on Fraser Street, East Vancouver is one of those Chinese restaurants worth visiting. The quality of the food is consistently great, the staff very helpful and attentive, and the price very reasonable in relation to the quality of the food and service. This restaurant has been rated in the top of its category by the Province Newspaper many years in a row and for good reason! We eat there on a regular basis now.
Best Chinese Food. Great service, great chinese food. This may be because I've been coming here for 15 years or not. I love the fresh fish, sweet and sour pork, lettuce wrap, gai lan, bean soup, various lobster and crab dishes, and the little peking duck wraps. Great spot for a quick and tasty dinner. Just remember to bring as many family and friends you can so you can try many dishes.

Haven't had crab for little while, I like crab but its very mess in eating it. But today I decided to go to Ho Yuen Kee on Fraser and 46th for their famous crab or lobster with sticky rice. I had that at this restaurant sometime ago, my memory tells me that I wasn't too happy about the dish, may be that's why I haven't been back for long time. Anyway, after todays crab dinner, I still not happy about it. Because they are not traditionally prepared (cooked) the dish properly. The proper way to cook this dish is to individual cook the rice in a bamboo basket and just before the rice is ready cook; put the prepared crab on top of the rice, so the rice will absorb the juice from the crab. But at Ho Yuen Kee, it appears they cook the rice and the crab separately, after they cook the crab and mix the rice with the crab and separate it before serve. That why the bamboo basket is not steamy hot and the rice like regular fried rice. But I must give them the credit of honesty, they show you crab and tell you how much it weights before cook it. (Not like the Ken's Chinese Restaurant on Kingsway, Vancouver, they don't show you the crab weather it live or death, and give you small crab and charged 2.5 .lbs for just over a lb small crab)
Despite the way they prepared the dish, it's quite tasty; I have no hesitation recommend to other. They have a very good choice and variety of items in their menu and it all looks very attractive and price seems to be very reasonable.
Most of the good Chinese restaurant when serving crab or lobster, they always give you a bowl of tea with lemon to clean your figures, that's what they called "figure bowl". It's silly and misleading to call it a "soup" or use to "dilute the flavor of the crab" by some food reviewers.
Crowded at times but worth the wait. Best to phone ahead for reservations. Staff very friendly and efficient. Good for lunch, dinner or late night snacks. Free range chicken, sweet 'n sour boneless pork, roast duck some of the best in town. Beef brisket with lo bak (white turnip) broth soup is as tasty as Hong Kong experience. My wife and I dine here a few times a month... And we drive 1/2 hour across town to get there...
Black bean beef chow mien awesome crispy noodles
Excellent tofu pudding. Try their tofu pudding is served warm in a bamboo pot. Its has an extra smooth texture!
Fire grilled, house made burger, toasted kaiser, crispy onions, lettuce, tomato and half-half salad and salad. One of the best and yummiest burger I have ever tasted. The patty is very juicy on the inside and bursting with flavors. Obsessed! I will be back for more :)
Of course we ordered the Lobster With Sticky Rice on the Bottom (Current Price: $19.80/lb, $7.75) (again). Ho Yuen Kee charges $7.75 for the sticky rice and then the current price per lb. for the lobster. The current price was $19.80/lb. for us. The lobster we had was around 2 lbs. Again, our lobster came out within minutes of ordering.
Last month, when my sister was here, we had a huge family dinner at Ho Yuen Kee on Fraser. I've only ever been here for lunch, but I had heard that their seafood is pretty good...let's see. We started off with a classic mixed appetizer, loaded with spring
My friends took me to Ho Yuen Kee a few weeks ago only because Angel Cafe was closed. It's pretty much another run-of-the-mill Chinese seafood restaurant, but then again, there were only a few of us and we only ordered three dishes. We'll have to try it a
Ho Yuen Kee serves up traditional Chinese style comfort dishes like congee, rice and noodles. And at nights, you will find surprisingly high quality unique items like dungeness crab, peking duck, their signature lobster cooked fried rice, and ginger flavo
I went here late one night for food because I was absolutely Starving (I don't usually eat after 6-7). We ordered Congee, wonton soup, salt and pepper spareribs, steamed eggs (dun dang), and beef tendon soup. Everything came super fast and they were all g
