This review is for the newly opened Poutinerie in Mackenzie Cafe at SFU. I was pretty lucky and won a gift certificate from the Dining Hall. My first impression when the guy handed me the poutine behind the red banner was WOW, it's loaded with toppings! All that bacon and cheese! It was filled to the top and because I need eat it somewhere, I had to press down the sides of the box to seal it (that's why it's a bit flat in the picture). An important note is that IT'S FREAKING HOT! Bring some tissues or you'll be like me handling it like a hot potato. Now to the evaluation of the poutine. There's several layers to this wonderful poutine. The basis-- Fries. Oh, these fries are SOO good. They're not so "Soggy" to the point it's just a blob. To the last bite, I was able to hear the crunchiness of the fries. Their fries are really good. Now the gravy, I would say that my poutine had the perfect amount of gravy. It was enough to melt the cheese curd, but not too much to soggy up the fries. It was super savory, not diluted like the breakfast station one. It had a super turkey? some sort of poultry flavor to it which I love. Now to the toppings! Like I mentioned, it was well worth the 8.99. The bacon, cheese and chicken... yum. The chicken was tender and grilled to the point that it had a bit that "grilled" taste to it, not something that's just frozen and reheated. Now the ranch boost the overall taste by adding a bit tart to the chicken and gravy. It was awesome.
Will come back again or visit the store for other flavors. Impressed.

Any place that serves a veggie gravy for poutine instantly gets extra points for me. And they get even more stars if they make it well. Been here a few times and have tried almost of all of their veggie poutine choices. Loved each one of them so far. I love the fact that their gravy is not overly salty -- something I can't say about Belgian Fries on Commercial Drive.
Poutines!! Había que probar la comida típica de Canadá.. yo soy de la idea que las papas fritas con todo quedan bien. En éste caso pedimos una poutine de bacon y otras de prime beef deluxe, si bien ambas eran ricas las papas fritas no estaban muy buenas, les faltó crunch!
We love coming to Smokes to try the different kinds of poutine they offer. Toppings are slathered on, so you'll always get a bite of everything with your fries.

Delicious!. I have only eaten here a couple of times, but I love this place! I have tried the Prime Beef Deluxe and Philly Cheese Steak (with the cheese sauce on the side) and both were delicious. Squeaky cheese curds, crispy fries, gravy that's not too salty and delicious toppings. If I weren't so concerned about the health effects of consuming poutines, I'd definitely eat here more often. I love the variety and quality that Smoke's offers.
We rolled up and ordered a pulled pork poutine. This place has a large variety of speciality poutine. Our order was made fresh. Fries were crispy, cheese was perfect and gravy and pork was salted well. Order was reasonable for its price of $7. Tables were a bit unclean.
Pork goodness. There are great options on the menu, I was surprised to even see an option with vegetarian gravy, however I am not here for that. I had the triple pork which was pretty good, it had cheese curds (duh) gravy, sausage, bacon and pulled pork, such an amazing combo! the sauces they have at the condiment bar were great too, i think i had one that was like a chipotle mayo?? Price was good too at $7.99, however this is reflected in the portions of curds and meat you receive. Still its good!
Had the nacho version of a poutine and liked it. really expensive for what you get and not that much cheese but it was tasty...that "im gonna be fat and alone forever" kinda tasty.
Really hit the spot. The 80's theme is great fun. I just don't remember pop shoppe pop costing $2.25 a bottle!

Satisfaction. I had been craving poutine for awhile and the local jaunts were not satisfying my palate. Some friends visiting from Victoria suggested this place. I was completely floored by the pulled pork poutine. Delicious, hearty, and affordable. Completely satisfied.
It’s no culinary masterpiece, but who expects that when it comes to poutine? The true genius of poutine lies in intoxication. If you’re eating it sober, you’re just not doing it right. I mean, you could do it and I would never say no, but half of the wonder and amazement that is The Poutine Experience is gone.
Smoke's takes the humble Canadian speciality to a whole other level with toppings like steak, bacon, guacamole, salsa, even perogies! This place will definitely disgust poutine purists haha! Smokes without a doubt defies all norms of what poutine should be! Sam's Poutinerie has locations all over Canada! The location I went to was the one on Granville St. It's just a short 2 min walk from the Granville skytrain station! Their slogan is pretty amusing: "Clogging Arteries since 2008." haha! I don't even want to think about how many calories an entire box is haha! Probably more than a day's worth! We peeked at the menu at the door before deciding to come here. There’s so many speciality poutines here! We ordered the Bacon Cheeseburger Poutine the first time. I was surprised how quickly they served us (right after we payed for it at the till). The poutine looked strangely the same as the pictures they presented. No McDonald’s lies here (if you guys know what I mean). My eyes lit up after the first bite. After some disappointing poutine runs, this one really hits the spot. 3/5 [Traditional Poutine: 8.50 with tax included] Unfortunately, the fries I received were not piping hot and that is a problem... . it did not melt the cheese curds effectively. The only vegetable on the vegetarian one is mushrooms, cmon, you can do better than that. Overall, the fries made me super thirsty for some reason, maybe due to it's high sodium content. I don't remember being super thirsty from the other times I've had Smoke's. Strange. Overall, edible but a clear step down from the Downtown storefront location. Also only 4 options to choose from. I do appreciate the presence of ketchup, mustard and sriracha available for one to drizzle over the poutine. And customer service was good. xx Angel
