Overall, very comforting. The soup base was delicious and beef was tasty. Definitely will stop here again when I’m around the area. Service was friendly and overall good experience.
came here because my friend told me about beer crab. so pre ordered the beer crab, and it was for a group of 6 ish people, the food is good, the beer crab is something different, definitely it brings out the sweetness in crab due to the alcohol as well, although the combination is not as good as i thought it'll be. i think if the selection of crab should be better and maybe some certain type of beer, only light beer something that is not really not super hoppy. overall i think it's pretty decent. the noodle must be asked for the beer crab, or you can also ask for noodle i think
It was coming down hard in rain and I really needed something comforting. I was passing by and noticed somewhat of a dive hole with alot of people inside. I decided to take a risk.
The wait was only 2 minutes, I lucked out. I got their traditional beef pho and wow... The broth is delicious.
I saw alot of other specialized dishes around me that made me want to come back and try it out with a bigger group of friends. Service was decent. Overall I was impressed and can't wait to try dinner out.
Well, I've found my new goto pho place. I came here for the first time last night and I ordered a typical bowl of beef noodle soup... and then I ordered another! It was that good. I mean, I was starving and it was my first meal of the day, but it is still the best pho I've had. It comes quick too. Like 2 minutes and you're eating. I'll be back.
Came here on a rainy day during lunch hour to satisfy a craving. Restaurant was quite busy but they were able to seat us. A younger male staff helped us and not sure if he was having a bad day but he did not speak at all. No smile or hello when we arrived and no acknowledgment when he took our order. Overall the food was OK. They charge $9 for a small bowl of pho and $10 for a large which is more than most Pho restaurants. I had the spicy pho which was $10.50. They give just the right amount of meat but the soup was not spicy at all. Looked like the regular soup base drizzled with drops of chilli oil. Also, the pork hock was just bone and no meat. Will I make an effort to go back? No..but maybe when i'm in the area.
Tried the dry egg noodles for the first time and I quite liked it. It came with seafood (shrimp, squid, and faux crab sticks), and had sweet soy sauce drizzled on it. I also added a good helping of chilli oil! Pretty good.
There's also a side of soup and that was tasty.
I've been trying to call them and no answer. Does anybody know if it's still open? The secret menu is one of my favourite dinners in Vancouver.
Beer crabbbbbbb wtffffff I've never seen such a huge Dungeness crab!!
First time trying this and the taste is still lindering in my mouth!!!😍😍
This is so godlike omg and that beef sashimi and bbq prawns and that oxtail with bread is just too perfect match!!
And the caramel egg pudding melt in my mouth!!
I had never been so amazed at a Vietnamese restaurant and not even exaggerating, i am totally serious!!!
Totally highly recommended. You gotta try their secret menu!!
Came here a couple weeks ago and the food was fantastic. Perfect restaurant placement, right in front of the bus stop. Place was packed when we arrived and for good reason. Came with good sized portions of meat along with lots of noodles. Different meats were all equal, there wasn't too much of one meat or too little of another meat. Broth was swirling with flavour. The flavour was strong and absolutely delicious.
A good place for vietnamese dinners because of their special menu (preorder only). They have a special crab hot pot, ox tail and giant prawns which are expensive but very "special". The flavours are great in the oxtail and they put noodles in the crab hot pot after to soak up all the soupy goodness. I quite like their dry noodle/soup noodles and although it is expensive, their stuffed chicken wings are pretty good (spring roll filling inside a chicken wing).
I love Pho Tan – it is my go to Pho place. Its well priced, the portions are good and everything is tasty. For some reason, it is much better than its counterpart on West 41s. Wonton soup every time. They are really flexible if you want to change the orders (ie: get beef broth instead of chicken). Their spring rolls are always freshly fried and they make an awesome Vietnamese coffee. The restaurant is small, but they always seem to make room for more!
Easily the best pho in Vancouver, in my books. I’ve been to a lot of different pho places in Vancouver and love the pho here, it’s so tasty and delicious. I always get the Pho Bo Satay, because it’s so good and I don’t even want to bother trying anything else. Their appetizers are excellent too, I like to alternate between the spring rolls and the seafood spring rolls, both are highly recommended. Every time I come here I know that it will meet and satisfy my expectations. I would definitely recommend it to any one and everyone.
The spring rolls were amazing. Little but weak on the sauté. Stir fry was alittle bland. But the spring rolls WOW
The fact that many of these reviews have been based more on service than food, tells me how ignorant their writers really are. Service is one part of a review that must be taken into consideration however it does give anyone else an idea of the food. So if anyone else is planning on writing a review, remember to explain the experience you had with both the food and service. While you're at it, grow up.
Excellent Pho!. The place was busy for a Vietnamese place (usually pretty empty to the ones I've been to..)
And that was rightfully so as the Pho was well presented and tasty to boot.
Plus I had the Seafood Spring Rolls over the regular Vietnamese spring rolls which was also a nice surprise!
I was told about this restaurant and I knew I had to try it. I Pre ordered the Beer Crab and the Ox Tail, as these two items were their special items not found in the menu. I found the crab to have a very distinct flavour, in part of the beer broth. It was well cooked, but it was nothing special. As for the Ox Tail, the group of foodie with me said it was really good, but it'll set you back ~$26 as min order is 4 ($6.50/piece). The chicken rice was good and the shrimp cake was good. I found the seafood roll to be a little over fried. Price for Pho, rice and appys were comparable but the 'special' items are pricier. the crab was ~$40 (w/o noodle) Overall experience: thumbs up.
My vote as one of the top Pho places in this part of the 604.
This place is the best Vietnamese restaurant in Vancouver by far.. Great price and the quality is second to none.. Place get busy though but service is great
On a cold and rainy November day, there's nothing like a big bowl of steaming noodle soup to warm you up. Our pho was fabulous, and our other dishes were great, too, especially for these prices. The service was certainly pleasant and competent, but when it gets really busy (and it does), you might have to try a little harder to get someone's attention.
From the soup to the main courses every dish is consistantly yummy ! I eat here at least once a week .
GREAT Grilled Chicken. After trying two new, disappointing Pho places in as many weeks I was relieved that Pho Tan was a winner. Tasty broth, good beef balls and killer grilled chicken. Spring rolls are also solid. I'll be back.
#77 all the way!. I always get their #77 on the menu. It is my favorite joint for Viet food.
Fantastic!. I tried Pho Tan last week for lunch and I was blown away at how delicious the chicken was. We started with spring rolls of course. The prices and portions were fantastic and the place was packed. Could easily be my new favourite Vietnamese restaurant.
I believe they have pretty good pho and other typical Vietnamese dishes at Pho Tan. But that is not what my friends and I come here for. They have a hidden menu of special dishes that need to be ordered 24 hours ahead of your visit. So my university buddies treated me a 10-course dinner at Pho Tan for my birthday. Just to name a few of those luxurious and delicious dishes we pre-ordered: Braised Oxtail, Beer Crab, and BBQ Lamb Chop, at the end of the evening I felt like I was the luckiest person on Earth! Beer Crab The Beer Crab dish actually came in 2 courses. First they served the crab braised in beer in a claypot and with very minimal spices and aromatics: salt and pepper, some ginger maybe, a few slices of onion and a touch of cilantro. The aroma smelt exactly like… beer and pepper. I put a piece of crab leg meat in my mouth. It was at first a sense of delicate and sublime tenderness. Then it hit harder, the taste buds awoken by a wave of sweetness and freshness.
reeted with a friendly demeanor, the owner sat us down promptly. I ordered Grilled Chicken with Shredded Pork and a Spring Roll on vermicelli (8.00). The salad portion was nicely pickled and had quite the tangy flavour to it. The Lemongrass chicken was fantastic as not only was it juicy, it had a light crispiness to the exterior. The spring roll was very hot and crispy and had a pleasant sweetness to it. Good: -Good value for portion size -Very well executed -Prompt, attentive service Bad: -Parking Closing Comments: Out of all the Pho places I’ve been to, I think this one ties with Bao Chau on Hastings Street. Overall Rating: 4.25 PBJ’s out of a possible 5 # Pho Tan # Main Street # Vietnamese # Pho #
On a chilly winter day, a hot bowl of noodle soup is pure comfort. On this day, we decided to visit Pho Tan restaurant on Main Street. This is a small family run Vietnamese restaurant with locations in Kerrisdale, south Main and Burnaby. It was quite busy at the time, but we arrived just as a table cleared up, so we were seated immediately. Looking through the menu, My lunch companion picked the beef stew pho And I went with a large bowl of rare beef and brisket pho Pho is all about the broth. The noodles, the bean sprouts and the sliced meat needs to be fresh and of a good quality, yes, but broth is where all the effort goes. Pho Tan’s beef broth is excellent. I can taste the roasted onions, ginger and beef, and there’s a light accent with the spices. I’ve tried pho where the broth was weak and watery, other places where the spices were overpowering. It’s a nice balance here. The rare beef and brisket sliced thin, the bean sprouts were lightly blanched but still al dente. I’d
Regulars line up on weekends to enjoy the restaurant's piping hot bowls of pho, dry vermicelli dishes and beer crab. Why is it so beloved? There are actually quite a few reasons! For starters we could tell there was no...
It has become a weekend ritual for the both of us to visit the Pho Tan on Sundays for lunch. The Pho Tan is located at 4598 Main St, at 30th Ave. They serve the typical Vietnam cuisine such as pho beef noodles, broken rice, vermicelli, and Vietnamese styl
Pho Tan Vietnamese has been in the Riley Park neighborhood for a number of years now. I should know as I use to live 10 minutes away and our family would go there often for lunch and dinners.
Service was prompt and eager, with the bonus of they left a large carafe of water so that we could keep our many glasses of cold water filled.
