Thai night Part Two. I had to go for a sure thing tonight as Part One on Tuesday at another Thai place in Kits was a bomb. We have been going to Taste of Thai for years (used to be Wimaan). It's literally a mom and pop restaurant. Husband runs front of house and the wife is in the kitchen as the "head chef". The kids are helping with dishes and waiting tables.
The food here always brings me back to Thailand. The authenticity of Thai flavours...salty, sour, spicy, sweet ...were evident in every dish we had tonight. Their pride is shown in the presentation of the food and they don't water it down for Canadians. Prices average $1 more than the Tuesday night bomb, but definitely worth it. Portions are not huge, but we (two people) were stuffed with two appys and two mains.
Service here is awesome. Sam, the owner, treats us very well. He really tries to get to know all his regulars. He remembers that we like extra spicy and deep fried banana with ice cream, yum yum. Unfortunately, we were too stuffed for dessert tonight as the food was too yummy to stop eating.
One thing that I must say, the chili sauce that they provide on the side is to die for. They should really think of bottling and selling it. It is just that good.
Ordered the prawn pad Thai, was pretty decent (didn't use ketchup which is always a plus). A tad pricey for the portion though. I would order spicier than you normally do - I got spicy and that wasn't enough
Really enjoyed the yellow curry from here. It was creamy and had a deep flavour. The pad thai and spring rolls were also good. Would try this place again if I'm back in the neighbourhood.

The food is authentic, delicious, and NO MSG (but still taste good!) and you can ask for gluten free options. The owner is very friendly as well! Will come bak again for sure..
Fast prompt service. Ordered the lamb skewers and the prawn dish, chicken curry. Wife can't handle spicy so we ordered mild dishes, with hot chili on the side for me! Will go back!
1st try with UrbanSpoon - wow!. We just moved from Cambie & W Broadway west past Dunbar and we were searching for a great thai restaurant. I tried Urban Spoon for the first time and read the reviews on Taste of Thai. We ordered 4 dishes and the springrolls last night.
- Deliver took 40 minutes (they said 45)
- The delivery guy was super friendly
- Everything came packaged great (and in a cardboard tray instead of a plastic bag, that was a nice touch)
- The dishes were delicious!
I'm hooked on UrbanSpoon and my wife and I have found our new favorite thai restaurant!
Authentic Thai Food. The Spring Rolls were a special treat. If you've ever been to Thailand, then you will know what I'm talking about. For a main course, I ordered Pad Thai even though I can never seem to find authentic Pad Thai. I was pleasantly surprised. It's authentic and even better than most places in Thailand. If you like Thai food then don't miss this spot.

This place is a treasure. I love Thai food above all other Asian cuisine, I love the balance of flavours and healthier options. I've been to Taste of Thai many times, tried about 75% of the menu but will make personal recommendations on some of favs. Gai Hor Bai Toey (delicious marinated chicken wrapped in padan leaf and fried), this dish is a popular thai snack food and the effort that goes into preparing chicken this way makes it a must for me and my family. Massaman curry with chicken is creamy, packed full of flavours and best yet, cooked and simmered with juicy chicken thighs instead of chicken breast which I found too dry for my liking. Curries in Asia rarely use chicken breast meat. I do love both their pad thai and pad see ew, both of which were authentically cooked but I'd recommend their pad see ew more, the rice noodles tasted freshly made as it was soft in its consistency. They also make a mean tom kha gai. If you can handle spicy food, ask for the dishes to be at least medium but ask for a side of prik nam pla if you'd like to kick it up a few notches. Service is friendly and the owner is very personable and genuine and he will make great recommendations, all you have to do is ask. The prices are a few dollars more than most places but rent is high in the westside and trust me, its a small price to pay for tasty Thai food. This place gets a big nod from me for its authenticity and even more for its food prep and awesome service. I've tried many Thai places but I find myself returning to Taste of Thai over and over and over again
Place is fantastic, some of the best thai food in the city. Kitsalano's best kept secret. The owner Sam, is very welcoming. Try the papaya salad, and all the curries I have tried are amazing. I'll be back soon!
