It always satisfies you whenever you visit this place. All food items are awesome, we love Manchurian, cashew fried rice, and noodles. You need to wait to get your seat but great food is worth it.
This restaurant is Indian fusion of Chinese cuisine. The owners are Chinese and grew up in India; and brought heat into their cuisine. The service and environment is nice and pleasant.
I came with a friend and we ordered: hot and spicy fried squid, Mongolian beef and house chow mein. The squid was fabulous - not too heavily battered and definitely had a kick. The Mongolian beef was not too spicy. It was mixed with peppers and onions for a semi-sweet flavour. However, the only problem with this dish is I found it a tad salty, and the beef could have been tenderized a little more. The house chow mein was tasty. It wasn’t overflowing with sauce as some other restaurants do. It had both shrimp and chicken, however I recall our server saying it came with lots of veggies... but the only veggies I saw was chives.
I will definitely try this place again. However I may choose more veggies dishes that actually contain veggies. If you want to try good Chinese food with a spicy kick this place is for you.
I was having Indian Chinese after 9 months, so please if you find my review to be mildly biased, it wouldn’t be surprising. The food was amazing, the portions were almost American size and we ordered Gobi Manchurian, Chilli Paneer, Schezuan Noodles and Veg Fried Rice between the 4 of us!
This post is specifically for Green Lettuce “Vancouver” not to be mistaken with Green Lettuce Surrey which in my opinion does;t compare. This Vancouver location serves the most mouth-watering Indian style Chinese dishes I’ve tasted in the city and the tri-cities area. Their famous for their delicious and delectable....
It is a nice Indio Chinese restaurant located in Kingsway and Victoria. Staff are always friendly and happy with the food. Dry chicken manchurian is yummy. Really go back again
I love the unique flavors offered at this restaurant. The folks are Chinese but lived in India previously, so they speak Hindi.
The cuisine is definitely very representative of the Chinese food served in India.
THE BEST CHINESE I'VE EVER HAD IN VANCOUVER.
There I said it. And it had to be written in bold because there is no other way to express my excitement of reviewing this amazing place.
This location and the one in Surrey have everything in common. Delicious food, amazing staff, plenty of seating, great service and fresh memories of every trip.
Order anything from their menu and you won't be disappointed. For a large gathering, our go to place was always Green Lettuce. Super amazing quantity, fantastic quality and so affordable.
Hope to come back soon 😊
Absolutely spot on when they say "desi Chinese"! My husband and I have had their food multiple times since we got to Vancouver and it simply gets better and better! The tang, the spice and the aroma of desi Chinese is the most appetising food fragrance in the world and Green Lettuce delivers on all that and the taste! We've had the Kung Pao chicken, the Hot Chilli Chicken Dimsums, Szechuan Noodles, Szechuan Fried Rice, American Chopsuey Bird's Nest with Fried Egg and the Hunan Chicken (not at the same time but we're capable ;-) The taste is unbeatable and the portions are perfect for two! We definitely know for a fact that this is going to be one go-to place for us when the mood is for Chinese!
I’ve been a big fan of the Chili Pepper House on Kingsway and Rupert ever since I first stepped through its doors. When I heard that there was a similar joint, also on Kingsway, that was offering similar eats, I just knew that it had to be on my “must visit” lists! The restaurant itself is quite spacious, but, although their take out menu claims “ample parking” in the back, there are maybe 4-5 spots…IN ANY CASE!
We chose green lettuce because of the review ratings and were not disappointed. Friendly helpfully service and a truely interesting menu for those uninitiated to Indian / Chinese cuisine. Having a sweet and sour soup bursting with flavors and vegetable pakoras to start set the tone. Our dishes came to the table freshly prepared and timely. It was very busy. Many families which is nice to see. We will be back to explore the menu.
Green Lettuce is an amazing hole in the wall restaurant with Indian Style Chinese food. It’s busy every evening, so make sure to get a reservation or come here right at the beginning of dinner time. They also have another restaurant in Surrey. Green lettuce brings the best flavours of Chinese and Indian cuisine and bring it together.

It's my second time being here and I love their Indian Style Chinese food. It's quite unique and everything tastes amazing. It's the best combination of the two cuisines.
Definitely make reservations before coming here!
An amazing place for Desi Chinese food!
Well if you're from India and if you miss the Indian Style Chinese food served back home, this is one place you should definitely be and relive that great taste.
The owner himself is Chinese who was born and brought up in India and most of the Staff speaks both Cantonese and Hindi so beware what you say in your local language while you Order ;)
Speaking about the food items, Chilly Chicken in starters is crunchy, spicy and very tasty. In main course one can order Masala Fried Rice (Chicken/Veg) with Chicken/Veg Manchurian. Prices are reasonable and portions served are generous.
There's an additional 15% off for takeaway orders and the servers are attentive and courteous.
One word of caution - this place can get awfully busy during the evenings and especially during week-ends.
So if you don't let them know in advance you may end up waiting for 30 minutes or more.
It's always a good idea to call them first and give your name, you may still have to wait for 10 minutes or so but it's still better than waiting forever so an advance reservation is highly recommended.
Delicious! I highly recommend the Goni manchurian (fried cauliflower in manchurian sauce)! The only down side was the wait time for the food and paying the bill, however the wait was worth it! Will definitely be coming back.
Went for the first time tonight on a friends suggestion and loved it. Great selection of food with plenty of flavor and spice options. Service was very friendly and fast. Will absolutely be back
I had lunch here last week with some coworkers. They have a nice menu with a good selection and adequate selection of food. We ordered a few different items and just shared. The food was pretty good, lots of flavor. On the negative, service wasn't the best and the servers were sooooooo slllloooooow. Like painfully slow. There were maybe two other tables occupied yet just to get our bill took 10 minutes. I'd still go back tho as long as I'm not crunched for time.
Very good food, amazingly warm staff!
Nice menu!!. Really enjoy the food here...the tofu dishes are flavourful. The varied levels of spiciness throughout their menu is just great.
We do prefer Chili Pepper as they let you order half dishes for many things. Isn't it wonderful to have both?
Went here with four other people on a Sat night. We're in out late 20's. Poor service. A group of older women came
in few mins after us, hostess still went to them first as if we weren't there. Sat them down first. Came back said we'll have to wait. I protested and asked why the women were seated, she said she thought they were there before us. We waited for 10 mins even tho empty tables. Sat down, ordered, waited an hour to get even an appy. Kitchen filled all take out orders before dine in ones. Huge lineups for takeout. Food was okay, I'd say 3.5/5. But no apology for delay. Poor service. Dessert - fried banana with vanilla ice cream. I asked for mango (was on menu). She said no. I said I'll pay extra, no problem. She said no. Very odd.
Terrific flavours. Green lettuce is a must stop while in Vancouver. We always order our food medium spiced and it is just hot enough. The fish dishes are my favourite even though it is not "freshly caught" there is nothing left on our plates. Try the chicken lettuce wrap and for an unusual vegetable, the cauliflower. Who would think of deep frying cauliflower! This is one of those spots that even when you are full, the food is so yummy you can't leave anything on your plate.
Spicy goodness. Went here for the first time recently and we really enjoyed our meal. The food tastes really fresh, is not greasy and packs a nice spicy punch.
The service was good. Not the greatest ambience but in a way, that is kind of why the place is cool... Who goes to deep Kingsway for ambience anyways?
AMAZING. I love this place!!!! never fails to please. service with a smile. super friendly. usually packed, but service is still efficient. love the masala prawns and sweet and sour fish.
Spicy Chinese -- they aim to please!. This is a favorite, even though I don't get here as often as I'd like to.
The service is excellent, the menu is vast, and the portions are generous. I just wish the ambience were a little nicer, the music were a bit louder, and the washrooms were a bit cleaner. This doesn't stop me from going, however, but I'd go more often if these things improved.
Still, the prices are very good. Only disappointment has been with the lettuce wraps -- maybe I'm just used to Thai ones....
Great food and service. I would recommend this place to anyone. The only downside is that the washroom could be cleaner but don't let that stop you the food is really great!
It's one of my favourites in Vancouver! I recommend it to anyone I know and some I don't. It's only a few blocks from my friend's place so every time I stay there at least 1 meal will be take out from Green Lettuce. I raved about it to my sister in Surrey until she told me they had one out on 120th near her and it was her 'go to' take out restaurant.
Good food, good service.. We arrived shortly after opening at 4pm. I suppose Green Lettuce appeals to multicultural Vancouver with customers from different backgrounds. Ordered an appetizer tofu, DaiChing Vegetables and Prawns and they were all good. Not greasy at all. We didn't order dishes with the title "Bombay style..." so I'm not sure how different it is compared to normal Chinese cuisine ... The food is definite more Chinese with a hint of Indian fusion.
One of the waiter is Chinese from Calcutta. They speak Hakka (a Chinese Dialect) and Hindi too. Overall, the food is good with good service too. We left around 5 pm and 12 customers have come by.
Manchurian chicken... Really anything with that manchurian sauce.. Try to come between it and me, be prepared a violent fork & knife altercation.. The staff, the food never dissapoints us.. even a couple of years ago with our group of 20 + ... this time, just the same - always great value..
The owners of Green Lettuce are Chinese Canadians. The chefs there have studied in India and came back to Canada to give us Indian Infused Chinese Food. Vancouver is know for many things: Cultural, Rain... many crappy sushi joints and greasy Chinese food. (Seriously, Ken's Kitchen is littered with many non-Asian folks buying up Chinese food. They made a killing in the Vancouver market. Grease sells!!!) Anyways, the food here at Green Lettuce is awesome non greasy with a hint of spiciness (or so). Green Lettuce is ALWAYS busy (except that one time when there was a shoot out in the business beside it and everyone at Green Lettuce had to leave). I have never seen this place empty (except when it closed). A definite recommend to friends.
Destination Restuarant / Indian & Chinese Patented. The blend of Indian and Chinese is hardly a new 'genre'. Certainly there are cuisines out there with a blend of the two and this isn't the first restaurant to go down this path. But, after two visits and having gone down this road before in other parts of the world including Asia, I can safely say that this place has nailed it. It if were possible to patent food, I would recommend the owners get a lawyer and start filing papers.
Visitors... make time during your stay to visit. Locals... be thankful it's in your backyard.
The atmosphere is welcoming, but it's the staff and food that make the place (in that order). In two visits I have received nothing but exceptional service, and noticed that is was equal with others. Speaking w/some nearby tables, this is a spot frequented by locals. And the food... They seem to know exactly what parts of Indian, whether it's the cooking style or cuisine or flavors, that marry with the Asian. And vice-versa. It is very enjoyable ordering an Asian staple and being surprised by the Indian twist. Flavors are not overwhelming, representing the style of cuisine well.
As usual with either Indian or Asian cuisine: Go w/friends... Order several entrees... And share. Prices are more than reasonable for quality and portions.
Great food in freindly atmostphere. Food comes quickly and is very tasty. Prices are also very reasonle for what you get.
You heard it right, Indian style Chinese Food...One of the dishes we enjoyed was Chili Paneer , which combines Chinese like sweet & sour sauce with Indian cheese, it was a first for me and delicious. ... This is one of those restaurants that I would never stop at, home-style, bright lights, a little dated decor. You see what I just did there, I was judging but since Green Lettuce came so highly recommended I’m giving it a try and opening my mind up to the possibilities.
The blend of sweet and sour sauce mixing with the batter was quite delicious (even though the result was that it was hard to tell the difference between fish and batter).
Yummy-in-our-tummies
+4.5
The menu’s spiciness factor isn’t entirely accurate – so order dishes at your own risk!
Manchurian Beef is the star. It is not on the menu but a wise blog follower once told me about it and if you ask you'd get. The taste is unique and definitely spicy. But the flavours are not clearly Indian or Chinese.
Taiwanesegirl sometimes takes me to the strangest places I’ve never heard of. She took a bunch of us out to Green Lettuce Restaurant saying how amazing their food is. When I heard ‘Indian Style Chinese food’, I wasn’t sure what to think about it. It was hard to wrap my head around how those two cuisines would fuse together. There’s parking in the back and this restaurant was packed early in the evening. It’s always good to make reservations here. When we arrived, we were glad we made a reservation since most of the tables were already occupied. Vegetable Pakora with Chutney Sauce seemed like it was a fitting choice to have at this restaurant. I was really good! Chicken lettuce wrap was probably more on the Chinese side and it was also pretty darn good. It’s not exactly the same as the usual Chinese restaurants as they spice this dish quite differently. Beef chow mein had the very crispy noodles topped with the vegetables and the beef. I’ve always been a fan of the crispy noodles ever s
