We tried two different dishes which came with tasty sides. The short ribs were yummy. We order a sweet & sour chicken dish that was ok, not my favourite . I ll be going on a regular bases

My wife and I haven't gone to the restaurant for many months. When we went there yesterday, Jin asked me if I played badminton lately (Good memory even I mentioned once only). I told him that I didn't play for months due to knee injury. Then, as usual, the waitress provided the great service and we enjoyed the food very much. When we were leaving, he sincerely hope I will get very soon. Delicious food! Great service and nice people!

While the Punjabi Market area of Vancouver is primarily focused on Main Street between 49th and 51st, I’ve always considered the neighbouring area along Fraser Street to be an extension of the Punjabi Market. What you notice, however, is that there are a lot of different ethnic cuisines that are represented along Fraser including Chinese, Japanese, and Korean… such as So Hyang Korean Cuisine.

So Hyang Korean Cuisine has been on our radar for awhile now, and we finally went to check it out for lunch one weekend. The storefront is a bit small and easy to miss. But once you get inside, the restaurant is a lot bigger than it seems because it is long and narrow.

Seafood pancake: We knew that we wouldn’t be able to finish this, but we wanted to give it a try and pack the rest back for a later meal.

It was delicious! For my first few bites, all I could taste was the red and green peppers. There was a lot more vegetables than seafood. The pancake was crunchy outside while the inside was doughy and packed with ingredients.

So Hyang clearly has a huge fan base as it’s praised for being an authentic, family run Korean restaurant on restaurant happy Fraser Street. It’s located right beside a tailor shop and Shoppers Drug Mart. Maxim’s Bakery is a few doors down. We’ve been twice now and both times it was packed. We ended up waiting about 15 to 20 minutes for a table to open up. Saw a couple regulars skip the line as they had called ahead to make a reso.

I love the seafood pancake, it's crispy on the outside and flavourful. The cold noodles was also very satisfying, especially in the summer. They have good side dishes that's refillable. Come early to avoid dinner rush wait.

We had walked pass So Hyang Korean Cuisine several times since we have been dining around this area on Fridays. We decided to give it a try this time. We arrived around 6:30pm and the restaurant was full house. We waited for about half an hour before we got a table. Apparently, most of the customers have reservation.

This is a clean and comfortable restaurant located on Fraser, near 49th avenue serving up Korean food. I've had their Hae Mool Pa Jun (seafood pancake) and Dol Sot Bibim Bap (bibimbap served in a hot stone bowl), both of which were delicious. The service was also great; the food came quickly and the young women at the front of the house were very friendly and attentive, offering customers complimentary tea and free refills of side dishes. All in all, this is a very good restaurant, and I'd highly recommend it to anyone looking for some good Korean food.

Hae Mool Pa Jun ($18.95):
4/5
This came out fresh, crispy and sizzling hot, so much so in fact that I burned my hand a bit while trying to eat my first slice (painful but worth it!). I loved this pancake. It is kind of a cross between a pizza and a Chinese scallion pancake, and was topped with various vegetables, seafood (mostly squid), and shreds of crispy potatoes. It was served with a sweet and tangy vinaigrette that complimented the pancake very well. Although this is meant to be an appetizer (that's supposed to be shared between 2-3 people), it served well as a main lunch for me.

Dol Sot Bibim Bap ($12.95):
4/5
This consisted of rice topped with vegetables (mushrooms, bean sprouts, cucumbers, carrots), bulgogi beef, and a runny fried egg that's served in a sizzling hot bowl. I was very happy to find that the vegetables were seasoned and actually had flavour. The bulgogi was well-marinated and had a really nice sweet, slightly spicy taste. The rice was well-cooked and not mushy, and fantastic when crisped up by the hot stone bowl. My main gripe with the dish is that I did find them to be a bit stingy on the beef; I really could have done with a larger portion.

Side Dishes (Banchan):
The main courses are all served with four sides, including some kimchi, bean curd, bean sprouts and potatoes. I personally didn't really care for the kimchi - I do think it's a bit of an acquired taste - I actually ended up mixing it in with my bibimbap, which lent a nice flavour to the rice. The remaining three dishes were all quite tasty; my favourites were the potato and the bean curd. The staff offer free refills of the sides as well.

So Hyang is a Korean establisment located on Fraser Street in East Vancouver best known for their rice, noodle, and Korean BBQ dishes. I came here with my friend to try out their popular dishes like deep fried dumplings, galbi , and soft tofu soup!

Food was great and servers were so kind

Most food was spicy, but I could choose spicy
even if someone can't eat spicy food, they can serve that spicy food for less spicy

It was really good experience I will go again

Food was incredibly delicious and fresh! I've had hot pot so many times at various restaurants and no one has ever taken the time to actually explain how long to cook it for and when the meat should be added, etc. It was really refreshing that they took the time to do this. The staff was also lovely and very attentive, I would go back just for them. My only complaints are the size of the menu, as it was quite small, and the lack of side dishes. We only received 4 for our whole meal.

First and foremost, we would like to commend their staff for a superb service. Their friendliness, helpfulness, and efficiency made our dining experience that much better!

For our late dinner, we simply ordered a hotpot for two.

Gam Ja Tang – $24.95

This was a classic hot pot with pork bone, potatoes, and veggies. The meat had been slowly cooked to be point that it would just melt off the bones. The soup was satisfyingly flavourful; especially on a snowy day! For spiciness level, we asked for “mild”, but it turned out to be closer to “medium” (not a complaint; just stating our observation :P).

All the side dishes were refillable, and we enjoyed the variety.

Kimchi – something spicy

Potatoes – something sweet and filling

Bean sprouts – something crunchy

Fish cakes – something sweet and mushy

Comfortable, cool Korean in a different location (goes to show there are Korean restaurants not around Downtown!) The short ribs were delicious and the side dishes were all delicious.

Great little homestyle joint that a friend recommended. Went for lunch and dishes were tasty. Male server (owner's son I think) was very friendly and made sure we were well taken care of. Even re-loaded our side dishes without us asking. Prices are reasonable. Will definitely come back.

It's hard to find good Korean restaurants that aren't downtown or in Coquitlam. So when I heard about this place nearby, I knew I wanted to try it! I went on a Saturday night and it wasn't busy at all. There were only 2 other tables. The servers were really nice and attentive the whole time. Also, the decor is cool.

The side dishes came out first, which was good because I needed something to nibble on while we waited. The potatoes were a bit different than other Korean restaurants as it came with yams too, but it was good. All the side dishes were actually pretty solid and I enjoyed eating all of them. I was craving beef, so I tried the marinated beef stew in chefs special sauce. I was surprised that it came with glass noodles and rice cakes too. Along with the rice, it was really filling.

Overall, this is a good option for Korean food if you don't wanna make the trek downtown or to Coquitlam. I'd want to come back to try out more dishes.

My girlfriend took me here as a surprise. It's a new location on fraser street. Today the owners son was helping out front and let me tell you, his service is amazing, 5/5!

The owners, the mother and father work in the kitchen. My girlfriend chose the Korean hot pot. Our server informed us that if it's salty he'll come with beef broth. We felt even with the broth added, for some reason it was still a touch too salty. The side dishes are free and the seaweed is delicious. The decor is very up to date and clean. I love their setup. The tables are lovely and the booths are comfortable. I would come back again to try their pork dish where you roll them with lettuce.
Service 5/5 amazing

The uninformed have been here too? Oh boy, how am I going to compete against them?

Well, that's not the reason why I decided to come to So Hyang. It was because a friend was craving Korean food and I tagged along. The three of us ordered Bulgogi, L.A. Kalbi, Hot Stone Bibim Bap and a tofu soup that I didn't catch the name of, nor did I taste. I had a bit of everything else though, and it was all pretty good. With either the bulgogi or the kalbi (I don't know!!!) came four sides: Kimchi, Bean Sprouts, Fish Cake and potatoes, and they were all fine.

Now, I've had problems in the past of servers talking a lot to us and constantly checking up on us (my first visits to Masayoshi and Yakinikuya), but the server here was more sociable, and we spoke about my limited experience with Korean food, and he gave me small pointers to maximize my experience, which was awesome of him to do. I will be back for lunch (because it's cheaper and I like to save money!)

A good Korean restaurant without the need to drive to Coquitlam or downtown.

The food tonight was quite good. We had the steam egg casserole to start. Neither of us cared for it. The taste was kinda plain. I had the brilliant idea of adding it to the beef stew that we ordered for our main, it went great with the spicy beef broth. The stew came with sliced beef, potatoe noodles (?), and egg drops. The soup was really good. So much depth in flavour. I just wish that there was more of it. For our second main, we ordered the Bo Ssam. I never had this dish before. Our waiter took the time to explain to us how it's supposed to be eaten. It's boiled pork belly served with salted cabbage for wrapping, bean paste & anchovy dips, and kimchi radish. It's salty and pungent. Some might even find it a little smelly, but we are both accustomed to these kind of flavours and smells in Asian foods and really enjoyed our first taste of Bo Ssam. Not something to be eaten on a regular basis as there is a lot of salt. Avoid if you are watching your blood pressure.

Service tonight is unlike what I've seen at other Korean restaurant. There is just two people for front of house, but both were very attentive and super welcoming. They were happy to explain the dishes, pour more tea, bring us more cabbage for the Bo Ssam and extra banchan...very good hospitality! We truly felt welcomed. Gomabseubnida!

This restaurant is probably one of the better korean restaurants in Vancouver, they aren't bad at all. Good service, seating is nice, at least they aren't like another restaurant called Jang Mo Jib where they show weird dancing kpop stars. Their food is pretty authentic, and coming from an actual korean person, the food is actually very great!

If it wasn’t for my foodie friend who finds hidden gems in every corner in the lower mainland, I wouldn’t have known about this place and it’s literally in my hood too. Their form of korean cuisine is very close to the flavours and tastes of Korea. So if you are not going to Seoul anytime soon, this is your closest thing to it.

First time visiting So Hyang and was warmly greeted upon arrival. The server was super helpful and guided us through the menu, pointing out all the popular dishes. We ended up ordering our staples - Bibim Bap, Jap Chae and BBQ short ribs (photos attached).

Bibim Bap (beef, veg and rice in a stone bowl): generous portion, fresh ingredients and heated enough to allow the rice to form a crisp later along the bottom. Perfection: ask for the Korean fermented chili and bean paste for a bit of a kick.

Jap Chae (stir fried glass noodles with beef and veg): can up the beef slightly but flavorful, great texture (not over-cooked) and not too greasy. I high reco.

BBQ short ribs: great flavor and cooked to perfection. Scissors and tongs are provided if you're not big on using your hands.

To finish off, a free dessert was provided. I was delighted that it was fruit and not ice cream. The sliced fruit plate was a great balance to the meal.

I highly recommend this restaurant if you're in the neighborhood. It's a little hidden b/c of a large tree in the front but easy to find once you're on the block and there's a ton of free parking in the back. It's a family-run business and the food is authentic.

So Hyang is a total gem in this neighbourhood! Everything on their menu is excellent and they have really good service. They're also willing to comply with any alterations to their menu, which is a big bonus. I've been coming here consistently for the last few months, and I always leave satisfied. My favourite is the bean paste stew!

The restaurant is kind of hidden. The service was excellent but the food is heavy on the oily side. I ordered pork tofu soup which had barely any pork. And the spicy BBQ pork which is oily. The side dishes there is very good.

AWESOME PLACE, staff there were very kind and friendly. We had a fun conversation on several things like tennis with a staff for example and dishes were big for what we paid for. Would love to return to have another slice of that atmosphere I've enjoyed so much.

Japchae is so good! And their servers are quite nice too. Will come back for other dishes next time. One star off only because they seemed short-staffed (hard to get the servers for tea refill) and we weren’t able to get our side dishes refilled. But with that said, I’ll come back next time!

We had the Hot pot which was great.. we also tried the seafood pancake and steak, which were a bit on the fatty side.. but still had decent flavor. Tried some Korean sake too, which was somewhat sweet and packed a kick. Definitely worth a visit, staff we also friendly

Stopped in here for lunch the other day, needed something hearty for moving furniture all day and this Korean cuisine did the trick! I had the chicken combo which was absolutely perfect with high quality fresh chicken and an excellent robust and not too sweet flavor. The Mandoo dumplings were quite good and juicy too. Price point seems a wee bit high, and the booth seats maybe from a converted past restaurant are worn and torn. The staff very nice and positive. They even put up a hand written happy Family Day sign up for everyone.

I ordered from here as my celebration grad meal. Was it worth it? Hmm yeah but I wouldn’t be in a hurry to try this place again. There portion sizes are good for some dishes (the Kkan Pung Gi, deep fried chicken) but also not so great but average for other dishes like the LA Galbi (you can find better deals elsewhere). The Sun Leong Tang even after adding in all the salt and pepper they gave me I had to add in my own spices to liven it up! And read the items of the dish carefully cuz I thought I’d be getting some ox tail meat in there but to my disappointment only bulgogi slices where in there. But it is as it’s described in the menu. So they got me!

Delicious Korean meal, very authentic and great service. We had a dinner for 2 and added a soup. All the food came quickly in good portion sizes. The restaurant is small that will accommodate small families as most tables will fit maximum of 4-6. Overall, great experience and good food so we will be returning again to try some more dishes!

Great service and authentic delicious Korean food. I would say their bulgogi fried chicken and japchae are the best! Would skip the seafood pancake.
