So excited to find a whole Anago Don here. I have always been an Unagi fan.
This is the first time coming to this restaurant.
We ordered the Anago Don, Uni Don, the Yakitori, the Engawa Sashimi and the snapper Sashimi.
Their ingredients were pretty fresh. Sashimi were on the pricier side, but very good quality. The only thing I don’t like is that all the dishes, including the Anago and the sushi rice a bit too sweet to my taste.
Best Japanese restaurant in Vancouver. Everything is very fresh and price is reasonable. Staffs are very nice. I would rate them 10out of 10.
Came here for dinner one night with my boyfriend. Very good sushi for reasonable prices. You definitely get your money's worth. Only thing was that service was a bit slow and you'd have to flag down the server if you wanted to order. Regardless, I would definitely still come back if I get the chance!
Great little place with high quality food! I had the salmon sashimi and Tuna aburi- I'd recommend both dishes! They have gluten free options for those who are celiac. The service was lovely too!
Great food and excellent service! I love classic Japanese operated sushi restaurants... and this is one of them... it is hidden in the this little commercial strip in the residential area but it is a must go especially if you are a sushi lover! Fresh fishes prepared perfectly with a sushi rice that is flavourful but not overpowering. Both the fish and rice break apart in your mouth creating a balanced taste. Come and try for yourself... love how they give you a pack of pocky sticks to take home!
Hitoe sushi was a restaurant that Grayson introduced to me and it has been a favorite of ours ever since. It’s Japanese owned so if you are more interested in fusion style rolls and eats, this probably isn’t the place for you but the two of us love authentic Japanese food so we keep coming back.
I'm a big, big sushi fan and this is some of the best I've found in Vancouver, worth traveling across the city for. The place is small and nothing fancy, but the servers are soooo personable and the food is soooo good.
The best sushi in the west end , in my opinion. I've been coming here for the past 3 years and they've been consistent every single time I come here. Quality is amazing and you don't have to spend a fortune to eat here. Their unagi is perfection and I love their salmon and tuna belly as well, always fresh and all...
Hitoe is a small homey sushi joint in Kerrisdale. Upon entering you could see many Japanese cultural elements hanging on the ceiling and placed around the counter, giving it some character to a restaurant that looks like what was once a small cafe. The menu had a great selection of your usual sushi nigiri and rolls but I had my heart set on the uni unagi ikura don. It seems like it's one of the more popular items on the menu because at the time of my order(7:30pm), they were sold out of uni! To compensate, the server told me I could substitute anything I want for the uni, so I opted for more unagi of course. My boyfriend ordered Sushi Combo C which consisted of tuna toro, salmon toro, hamachi, unagi, tamago, sockeye, tuna roll and salmon roll. We also ordered saba nigiri and the negi toro toro. For the nigiri, we find that although they tasted carefully prepared and marinated, some flavours seem to be hit and miss, a few even tasted bland (e.g. tamago, saba). The negi toro toro nigiri was a bit of a disappointment, because being an aburi sushi, it was torched a little too long to a point that the cooked part was getting to be too thick. However, boyfriend did enjoy the plain toro nigiri much better. Personally I loved my donburi, even though the uni was missing. The unagi was not over sauced and was slant cut parallel to the bones while maintaining a firm texture; the ikura were like opaque orange pearls shining in my bowl inviting me to dig in, each bite into them exploded with freshness and sweetness that made the rest of meal more appetizing. The best part of the entire experience was the sushi rice-- although softer than traditional style sushi rice, it was extra sweet and mixed well, making simple hosomaki taste more flavourful than it actually was (although it could be slightly less sweet, but still enjoyable!). The servers were attentive and helpful throughout our meal, when we asked for a dorayaki to go they even wrote dorayaki and drew a happy face on the to-go box! How sweet. We will definitely come back to experiment the other items on their menu.
Hitoe is a great stop for organic sushi. The rolls were wrapped very well. It's a bit on the pricier side, but well worth it. Since this is west 4th finding parking is a bit tricky.
The sushi in general are very delicious! Well seasoned and very fresh! We took the salmon and rainbow sushi! But the takoyaki was not up to my taste, may be its just me, also they put such a tiny piece of octopus in it.
Hitoe Sushi is a hidden gem on West 4th. It is an authentic Japanese restaurant that has a nice cozy home feel. The sushi is of a high quality but yet reasonably priced. We sampled an assortment of dishes including the Aburi Oshi Sushi (salmon, mackerel, scallop), Uni Ikura Onagi Don, Nabeyaki Udon and Dinner Box Combo. They were all very good but the star of the night for me was the Uni Ikura Onagi Don. These three delicacies offers a contrast of textures and flavours delighting your taste buds. The firm balls of salted salmon compliments the soft, velvety richness of the sea urchin. The sweetness of the unagi adds another dimension that tempers the saltiness of the salmon roe. This Don literally transcends you to the shores of Hokkaido. Highly recommend!
A very small place hidden way out west 4th Ave for 11 years. Excellent rolls and nigiri, the soups tend to more authentic japanese flavour profile so be aware before ordering as it may not be what you expect. Lots of vegetarian and gluten free options. Prices are very fair for the quality and execution of the food.
Best sushi we've ever had!!!
Their Gluten free rice is tasty! Fish so fresh!!!!
Mt. Fuji roll is a new favourite!
The best sushi I’ve ever had and the best service at a sushi restaurant I’ve had. Would definitely recommend going here, and try the speciality rolls (mango dragon roll for the win)!
The best uni don (sea urchin on rice) I have ever had! Uni was fresh, creamy, and wasn't fishy at all.
Yellow tail cheek was a bit pricey for its size, but it had great taste and I did not even need lemon.
Scallop Sashimi was great and it went well with their real wasabi paste from Japan.
Unagi Roll used fire grilled eel on top of the roll. It was crispy.
Negitoro Aburi Oshi Sushi used too little tuna compared to rice and it did not have great balance. Although it was full of flavour, I with they had less rice.
Will absolutely come here again. I loved it.
Somewhat of a hidden gem, doesn't seem like it'll be incredible but it's quite good sushi.
I had one of the combos in the picture attached.
Extremely friendly staff! They checked in multiple times to see how we were enjoying our food. The food was absolutely delicious! We look forward to coming again in the near future.
** highly recommend the smoked duck aburi!**
