The seafood salad is to die for. Lots of raw fish to go with the bed of greens and light dressing.
Hidden gem. Fish was fresh and portions for the cost we’re reasonable. We’ll be back!
Will definitely be back to try other dishes, great service and delicious food.. had a good experience.
Best sushi restaurant I had so far! The maguro sashimi is to die for.
I love your food. Nowadays, I have come back Taiwan. I miss your food so so much. Hope I will taste your dishes someday.
Saba Shiso and Hamachi Tataki... すごい美味しかったから、大好きです!!
Best sushi place. Always fresh and fresh fish flown in almost daily.
Ajisai isn't a typical Vancouver sushi restaurant. The location is charmingly odd and the food focuses on quality rather than quantity. When you combine the freshness of the ingredients and the lack of non-sushi menu items you get a much more authentic Japanese experience. This was shown to me when an Ajisai meal brought a Japanese friend to the brink of tears from nostalgic feelings.
A Japanese colleague introduced me to this place. I've been to Vancouver about 12 times and I've visited Ajisai 12 times maybe 13 times. Best quality and value I've found in Vancouver. The sashimi salad is always a requirement.
Ona of the best sushi places The only problem is it’s too small and they don’t take reservations so I order take out but it’s worth the wait. Also their menu online needs some improvement it’s too small to read and not complete compared to the one at the restaurant.
Hands down my favorite sushi place in Vancouver. The fish is always so fresh! We love going and choosing a bunch of different nigiri to try, they also change up their fresh sheet often. I love the toro and tobiko with quail egg nigiri. Blue fin and bonito nigiri is amazing as well, when they have it. Love their saba pressed sushi too!
Some people say salmon roe are too fishy, but I really can't taste it. It's nothing compared to the smell of the wet market in Hong Kong. . Love how generous they are about the salmon roe here. Well, restaurants are all pretty generous about their portion in Vancouver. I think I would just get a fraction of the portion in Hong Kong. Sushi can't really go wrong as long as they are fresh~
The staff are all very professional and welcoming. The sushi is always fresh and never disappoints. The wait can be very long at times since the restaurant itself is quite small. One of my favorite sushi places of all time!
Some of the best sushi I've ever had. Fresh, decent price, reliable quality and service. I've gotten into the habit of getting the sushi bento for lunch - best under $10 lunch deal in town. Love the a la carte sushi, too. They have some items that are not as common on menus, like the umeshiso roll/cone, which is a fave vegetarian item of mine. Any fish I've ever had here is also excellent. This place has never disappointed.
Came here with some friends on a Friday evening after school. We barely got here before 6 and it was just full with no one waiting in front of us. By the end of the meal however, there were a couple of parties waiting for tables. We had to wait for a table to clear up and a waitress took our name down and said the wait would be at least 15 minutes. I asked if we could leave and come back, but she said we’d forfeit our table if we did. I’m not sure why… I was only planning on walking around for 10 minutes.
Ajisai is one of the top sushi places in Vancouver due to its consistency! Never disappoint ordering anything off the menu, it's always has the freshest ingredients!
Came here for lunch soon after they opened and the restaurant was already pretty full. Luckily we got a table right away. Soon after there were quite a few people waiting for a table.
Service was good considering how busy they were. They refilled our tea frequently and checked to see how everything was. Their menu is quite extensive and they had some unique rolls that I haven't seen at other places.
For lunch, the have some specials that come with miso soup and salad. We got the hosomaki combo and another lunch combo that came with nigiri. We also ordered a few rolls: chopped scallop roll, smoked salmon and sundried tomato roll, ika and cucumber roll and toro taku roll. Bith combos had a good variety of rolls and nigiri. All the fish was fresh. The size of the rolls was just right with enough rice and fish inside. The miso soup was quite large and had plenty of seaweed and tofu. The salad had a unique dressing which I really liked. The only problem I had was that the toro taku roll had some fish bones in it. However, this roll was unique with the tuna belly and pickles.
Overall, the sushi was really good and I was surprised that it actually wasn't that expensive. There was three of us and we ended up with leftovers enough for another person. For lunch, I would definitely come back because of the specials making it affordable. For dinner, it might be a bit more expensive, but the quality is there. I would want to come back to try more items.
The sushi here is incredible. From presentation to freshness to the price, I highly recommend checking this place out! Just make sure to get there early and during the week to avoid waiting.
Ajisai Sushi Bar has consistently topped lists of best sushi restaurants in Vancouver and finally I made it here to try it! I went super early right after they opened at 5pm so there was no line up. They are located right around the corner from London Drugs in Kerrisdale. We started off with Ramune, a Japanese soda. If you’ve never had this before, it will be an interesting experience opening the bottle. There’s a marble at the top of the opening that you have to push down with a plastic fixture on the lid before you are able to drink from the bottle. FYI the small tea pot thing in the back is actually for soy sauce.

Ajisai Sushi Bar is a place you have to arrive at really early if you don’t want to be waiting outside in the cold for a long period of time. Many locals swear by this place for their fresh selection of sashimi and authenticity. I was in the area so I decided to revisit this little gem on my own before jetting off to my actual dinner😛
Great sashimi freshnesd and the sushi rice is pretty good. Better than most other Japanese restaurants but not as good as minanmi. The pressed sushi was nothing special
Came here for Valentines Day dinner, I would say solid choice. We showed up just after 7:00 PM and the place was very busy, also a very small place. We were told a wait of 45 minutes. Based on what I saw, I doubt it would be 45 minutes and my guess would be just over an hour. There were more people standing and waiting for a table than there were people eating at tables. The lady standing beside me at that point told me she has been waiting for over 45 minutes already, and they told her 45 minutes, she got seated around one hour and a half, but she came at prime eating time, 6:00 PM. What I'm trying to say is, We got seated in ~45 minutes and I was wrong.
I had the best Negitoro Roll I had ever had in my life at Ajisai, it wasn't even the most expensive Negitoro Roll I had ever paid for too, bonus! The roll sushi were very poorly wrapped, missing rice here and there, and falling apart when being picked up. The sushi was even falling apart on the plate. Have a look at the picture.
The pressed salmon oshi sushi was alright. I'll rather pay $2 more and get the aburi oshi sushi from Miku. I'm rating this a 5.0 because that Negitoro Roll was just so good.
While eating we weren't finished our Saba Sashimi and the lady took our plate away without even saying a word. If this didn't happen I would have given a 5.0 rating.
Don't let the lines deter you from trying your hand here. This is possibly one of the best sushi bars in town. Sushi and sashimi are unbeatable here. Despite being a small place, it still manages to have a good atmosphere. Not to mention the place is super clean and not too hard on your money. Who would have thought it would be tucked away in Kerrisdale?
Came here for Valentine's Day with my boyfriend. We waited ~50mins until we got a table. The place is very small, probably sits around 25 people? We got negitoro roll, yaki salmon (pressed sushi), saba tataki, and combo b (dynamite roll, sukiyaki roll house roll, and BC roll). I enjoyed the saba tataki a lot, it tasted very fresh. My boyfriend likes his negitoro roll as it has finely chopped tuna and lots of onions. The worse order was the combo we got. The sushi rolls were not tightly wrapped, so as we picked it up, it would fall apart.
One of Kerrisdale's most popular sushi restaurant and local favorite. Authentic Japanese food with great selection of unique rolls and traditional nigiri, they also offer daily sheets with chef's recommendation. It gets real busy from open till close and they don't take reservations. There is 2 hour free indoor parking around the corner.
one of my favourite sushi bar in Vancouver. its comeout perfect in most time. just love it, i Can have it for a week and never get tired😍👏🏻👏🏻 easy parking no charge on that.
This place has tempted us for years and deterred us with its persistently long lineups. We finally went in and we were completely blown away. The server was incredibly attentive to our many questions about their unique menu. The food was astonishing. The special unagi roll is the single greatest roll I have had to this day.
This is by far the best sushi bar in Vancouver due to its high quality and variety of fish. You can't get some of the fish they have anywhere else. If you're not big on raw fish or sushi, and prefer the deep fried snacks or grilled skewers or hot plates, this isn't the place for you. They have some oshizushi (pressed sushi) though it's not my preferred kind. Go for either their chirashi or order nigiri off their fresh fish menu. Totally worth it. Also the only place that has aji that seems to be fresh.
Whenever we're in vancouver, we will come here to get our sushi fix. Great quality, super fresh sushi at affordable prices. Extremely busy at rush hours. We typically ordered the nigiri and sashimi. Pressed sushi were fantastic as well. This past weekend, we came here and ordered the rolls which tasted good, except the rice was a bit loose and easily fell apart. Because they were busy, service was kinda slow (when we asked for water/tea refill, the staff took a long time to get back to us).
Loved this sushi restaurant! Excellent sashimi and the staff were attentive and so friendly. Authentic atmosphere and overall a great experience. It's a popular place so expect a little bit of a wait to get a table (20-30 min).
It’s hidden away in a cute little nook in Kerrisdale, but I don’t think anyone has trouble finding it. It’s always busy. Ajisai is the best sushi bar in Kerrisdale, but it’s a Lower Mainland highlight. We may have a lot of sushi joints in the PNW, but there are fewer authentic Japanese sushi bars. This is one of them!
One-liner: High-quality rice and a radical selection of fish
Highlight: Unagi Battera
Recommended for: Early diners and rice lovers
Would I go back? Yes for the rice.

Perfect little Japanese restaurant that actually has Japanese folks working. Loved it here! We went twice during our visit to Vancouver and it was amazing. The sushi just melted in my mouth and the prices were amazing! I'd definitely go for the sashimi appetizer and order whatever rolls your heart desires! They give you real green tea for free too which is always such a perk because most places charge you and give you a sad looking tea bag. Please note to park in the underground garage for free! No need to mess with street parking. It's also pretty small in there so expect to wait for a bit before a seat opens up. But trust me, it'll be worth the wait!
I am a regular Ajisai customer. They have the best sashimi in town and everything they provide is fresh. I don't usually tell this hidden gem to others because there is always a line up, but definitely worth the wait!
If you know me well, the two things I enjoy about japanese cuisine are unagi and yam tempura. It’s all I need. Since I’ve never been to Ajisai (despite the fact that I went to high school so close to it), I decided to make a stop for lunch. Plus, it was en route to class so I had no excuse not to...
Nice little Sushi Restaurant. This is a very tiny restaurant. Make sure you give yourself time to stand in line. We ordered a plate of assorted sushi. The fish was fresh but unfortunately the chef had a problem making the rolls because they fell apart when we picked them up. Maybe we will try again when it is not quite so busy
Been coming here for over a decade and really wish people didn't know about it because the lineups are getting stupid! Best sushi on the West Coast of North America, bar none! The chef is Osaka trained. Anybody who comes here and wastes space by ordering just rolls should be shot! Have the sashimi, have the Nigiri. If you don't like these things stay away. This place is too crowded and too good to be wasted on morons like you who really don't know their sushi. You people should go to Sushi Bang on Broadway because you don't know or appreciate the difference anyway.
85%+ with over 900 votes...what else is there to say?. As I walked by this restaurant after a doctor's appointment, the place was packed and a line-up out the door so I heeded the warning of previous reviews and tried again at a later date. Upon the opportunity to book the next doctor's appointment at an earlier time, I made sure to arrive at Ajisai as the doors opened. Lo and behold, four parties were also waiting including a group of senior Japanese diners. It's refreshing to see Japanese diners eat at the restaurant and watch the staff members provide them with the kind of service reserved for Japanese seniors, attentive, soft-spoken and well-mannered. Was I expecting that level of service? No. Did I want it? No. Did they go above my level of expectations? Yes.
As my summary states, you won't find anything new in my review but I thought my two cents will help you appreciate their establishment.
I've been going to this restaurant since I was young and it's delicious! I love how their dynamite rolls have cornflakes instead of a tempura prawn.
Also, it's always better to get there earlier if you want to be seated right away 'cause it can get busy pretty quickly!
Fresh, delicious sushi. I tried uni for the first time here and it was delicious! Would highly recommend it!
Best in town. This small hidden gem in Kerrisdale is my favorite sushi bar thus far. I would wait to get in because not only is the food delicious, the service is great. The staff are friendly and makes you feel welcomed.
Uni Don is really good. There are not many places that offer uni don. A long line up if you are going there at peak hours since the place is small.
Best sushi in kerrisdale. I recently visited this restaurant on a friday night and it was busy. I love the friendly staff and sat at the sushi bar. I didn't mind this much since the restaurant is small and i love watching the chefs make their sushi creations and cut up fresh sashimi. The reviewer below is right, they have delicious Natto! Its one of the first times I've ever eaten this, only seen it in pictures or on Japanese shows. Our bill for 2 people was $90 including tips which is pretty pricey for a local japanese restaurant but I felt like I got what I paid for and everything was delicious. The menu is also so extensive, I have to come back a few times to try everything.
A case where size doesn't matter...lol. ajisai's a small eatery but the sushi & sashimi's oh so fresh and tasty. and awesome free underground parking. ps: they don't accept reservations...first come, first serve.
Simply The Best. I started coming here on a review stating that 'Sashimi connoisseurs should come'. I love my Sashimi so I gave it a try even though I had to drive out to Kerrisdale to get there. That was 5 years ago and I've been going bi-weekly since. I've never once been disappointed. Simply the freshest and the best Sushi/Sashimi there is in this city.
^(00)^. Although I didn't quite enjoy my 1st taste of the Hakki Roll. Really enjoyed eating there. Loved the unagi cheese roll. The BBQ fish was good. Can't wait to try their special roll next time. It looked really appealing. But I was too full to try it last time.
But one word of caution. that place is small. I'd suggest you go with one friend (not a whole family) or you might be in for a long wait.
Definitely hard to find. I was on a bike ride out in the Kerrisdale area, and I remembered a lot of people writing good things about this place. I was with the girlfriend and we were out to check out Faubourg, and I mentioned I'd like to try to find this place.
I'm glad we did take the time to find it. It was about 1pm at the time of our visit, luckily it wasn't too busy. We were seated right away.
We only ordered a few items, a pressed smoked salmon roll(?), chopped scallop roll, and a california roll.
I thought that everything we tried was great, well seasoned, and fresh. The service was warm and friendly, I only wish we had chose to sit at the sushi bar!
If I am ever in the area, I am going to make sure that I stop in to try a few new things!
Sushi in Kerrisdale??. We would never have found Ajisai if we hadn't seen it reviewed on Urbanspoon. This has to be the most well-hidden Sushi bar in town. Even if you knew it was in Kerrisdale, you would never find it without a map.
I love to test out a new sushi restaurant by ordering the simplest dish - "Chirashi Don", a bowl of fresh seafood on sushi rice. Ajisai's Chirashi Don was so good the first time we ate there that I've ordered it several times since. Their rice sets the standard for perfect sushi rice, mixed with the right amount of rice vinegar, tiny slivers of mushroom, seaweed, sesame seeds, a sparkling spoonful of Tobiko topped with radish sprouts, and a selection of very fresh seafood. There is even an upscale 'Special Chirashi Don' with a fancier choice of seafood that I haven't tried yet.
The menu has some rolls that we haven't found anywhere else. One of them - the 'Toro Taku' roll - is the smoothest combination of Tuna belly and pickles. Give this roll a try!
I love the sushi at Ajisai because the restaurant hasn't given into the west coast fashion of constructing massive rolls that are too large to eat in a bite, with weird combinations of foods held together with gobs of fatty dressing! Ajisai serves beautifully prepared combinations of seafood, vegetables, and rice at a very reasonable price.
The restaurant often has a line-up at the door but since they open onto a walkway with benches and greenery, that's not a big problem. Service is quick and attentive and you won't have to wait long for a wonderful dinner in or out.
Tasty. There are so many Japanese restaurants in the Kerrisdale area, but I must say Ajisai is my favourite! Their menu offers a vast selection of choices. Vegetable sushi and inari (not the plain, old regular kind but the ones with beef stuffed inside) are amazing! The clam miso soup is just perfect. It's not too rich nor bland, and the clams are tender too!
They're closed on Mondays so be sure to check their opening hours before heading there.
Excellent. I love Ajisai. Reasonable prices, high quality, and the best selection of veg rolls I have seen in any sushi place.
Fresh Sushi! Awesome food!. I often come to this place for quick lunch. I have to order one of their special miso soup, the clam miso soup. The taste of it is a bit different from the typical one, but I enjoyed it really much. And I have to order their uni (sea urchin) nigiri too. I love the taste of the freshness inside it! Last time when I went there with my friends, since everyone loves to eat beef, we ordered beef sashimi, and it was perfect! Usually other AYCE restaurants are doing too much food and thus have no time to defrost it completely so that it tastes like ice and loses all flavour, but the texture and flavour were awesome! They have excellent tamago (egg) sushi too! One of my favourites now in the Vancouver area =D
Really Fresh. I went here for a quick lunch today. I've been here a couple of times, and everytime they had fresh ingredients and nicely made sushi. I really liked their beef tataki, and tamago sushi. Some may think that tamago sushi is just a piece of egg, but then it is actually really hard to make it taste good. The price is kind of in the upper range, but I think that it is worth it to have good tasty sushi. Proportions are decent as well.
I've been frequenting this restaurant for several years now and I feel like their food is starting go downhill. But still good enough for me to enjoy. Always packed, not enough seating.
Ordering by the pieces gets you their best stuff but you can also rack up a pretty high bill.
Nigiris are some od the best i've had. All Nigiri sushis we had were great! we had red tuna, toro, aji, hamachi, mirugai, and kapachi. i thought the rolls were OK... not as amazing as the nigiri.
High Quality fish in a hideaway. Tucked away in a Kerrisdale walkway Ajisai offers a vast selection of raw fish dishes and some rolls for the less adventurous. The staff are quick to serve you with green tea and a smile.
The location is small but bright and the washroom is clean.
Sitting at the bar during lunch time is a great place to get friendly with the sushiya and order your feast piece by piece. The chilled cabinet is clean and there is a large selection of fish available.
The sushiya is knowledgeable and approachable for questions regarding the world of sashimi and sushi.
Priced reasonably for it's quality, selection and presentation (no wasabi with the unagi!) Ajisai is a great place for a lunch or an intimate dinner.
Lives Up To Buzz. Even on weekdays, you can find the line out the door as well as people crowding inside the cozy entranceway.
This Kerrisdale favorite has many true fans, judging from the "its worth the wait" comments I've heard from many people after asking how long they've been told they can expect to wait.
Make sure to check out the special fresh menu. Pretty good Aji and fresh Japanese octopus (tako) were both pleasant surprises, that you won't find on many menus around town. Nigiri from the sushi bar was well rounded in terms of variety and delicious.
One of my favorites for straight-up sushi in the GVA.
Awesome!. I just returned from a trip to Japan and decided to try Ajisai on a Japanese woman's recommendation. It is incredible! Ajisai is my new favourite sushi bar.
Best sushi in Vancouver. Seriously. You can pay a lot more for sushi, but why?!?
Ajisai has consistently been my favorite since I "discovered" it 2 years ago. Fresh, high-quality fish especially for the sushi aficionados -- not your usual take-out rolls, but really special stuff like uni (sea urchin) with raw quail egg on top, ankimo (monkfish liver), and pressed saba (mackerel) sushi. They also offer excellent veggie sushi -- something I never thought to order before, but have learned to love at Ajisai.

The Amaebi Nigiri came with a large, sweet shrimp with a characteristic slightly sticky feel and a taste resembling sweet chopped scallop. The Unagi Nigiri was rather small, but the word "small" hardly applies to the amount of flavour it gave off. I guess they also added two pieces of tamago in the middle to make up for the smaller size of the Unagi Nigiri. The Chopped Scallop Nigiri was fresh and came with a few bits of masago that popped in my mouth. I was quite pleased that the seaweed used the hold the nigiri together was easy to chew. The Uni Nigiri was a bit interesting as it had a completely smooth, slippery appearance but I enjoyed the delicate, sweet flavour of the uni.
We got the CC combination which included three of each type. We added three uni. I also wanted to note that if you are not a fan of masago at other sushi places, try the masago at Ajisai. It is really fresh so it does not have the saltiness that is often associated to it and the texture is much less ‘sandy.’

You seriously can't get amazing, fresh and reasonably priced sashimi like Ajisai in the Bay Area. The side ingredients and presentation add a whole 'nother level to an otherwise just simply delicious meal.
Last Friday, I asked my mom to join me for dinner at Ajisai, a sushi restaurant in Kerrisdale that neither of us have tried before. It’s rated very well on Urbanspoon, with almost 750 votes at 88% and 27 blog posts. Ajisai is located on W 42nd at East Blvd. Its store front can be found amongst other shops in a plaza, beside London Drugs. Unless you were actively looking for it, you would never find Ajisai just by driving through Kerrisdale. You can find it hidden and tucked away if you drive in from W 42nd. We arrived at the restaurant around 8pm. The server greeted us and estimated that it would be approximately a 20 minute wait. Since we had driven all the way out to Kerrisdale from Richmond just for this meal, we thought we had better waited the 20 minutes. We grabbed a menu and sat on one of the benches in the plaza, where we decided what to order. There were probably around four to five parties before us. We were seated approximately 20 minutes later, just as our server had estima
...ordered the Spicy Combo for $10 (24 pieces). I was really surprised at the portion for the price! Not only that, but it tasted really fresh and delicious! Unlike other places these rolls had Kaiware sprouts (sprouts from daikon radish seeds) them that gave them a slight bitter but in a good way taste. I loved it :)
The first time we tried to get there, we had to spend some time. Despite it’s not easy to spot, it’s pretty crowded at lunch hours because it’s one of a few traditional nigiri sushi restaurant in Vancouver. Like the chef in Hachi, we feel that Ajisai does not spend much effort on making rolls. However, their nigiri sushi is great and they have lots and lots of nigiri and gunkan maki you can choose from.
The sushi rice in the chirashi was slightly sticky, tasting only faintly of vinegar and sugar. The pieces of fish were cut into thin slices that elegantly draped against the rice.
Ajisai has great sushi for great value. The high quality ingredient they use will keep us coming back! By time we left, the restaurant was packed! A waiting list have formed. We went on a Friday, so make sure you come early to skip the wait.
If you come here, you must get some sashimi as its all very fresh. Just look at the colour of the salmon - very appetizing
I was thinking “Fresh Fresh Fresh” the whole time because that’s exactly what the fish was – probably the freshest I have without doubt in a Japanese restaurant.
I love saba. The piece of clear kombu (I believe) is nice on top of the fish. Inside the rice is a dab of ginger and shiso. Yum!
This was the best Atlantic salmon sashimi that I have had. At most places it tastes the same, but it just tasted extra fresh here and it had a buttery smooth texture. This was also the prettiest looking salmon don I have ever had. I always appreciate beautiful presentation, especially when it comes to sushi. The sushi rice was mixed with what I think was Japanese pickled plums and something else that I can’t remember. It tasted very good and unique. I loved Ajisai and they took a standard dish and made it into something unique and special. I wish I lived closer to it so I could be a regular customer. Recommendation: Yes, for exce
The fish they prepare here looked and tasted quite fresh. There was little evidence that it could have came from giant chunks of soon-to-be-sashimi fish being dragged out of freezers before every dinnertime. The red tuna had a great texture and flavour to it; I particularly enjoyed its deep colour which is definitely a great indicator of quality. I believe this was my first time consuming hotate (scallop) sashimi by itself, and I found the texture a little curious; perhaps I need to be more accustomed to its consumption before I can make a proper judgment on it. The octopus, which I always find a little daunting to eat (chewing makes me tired), was prepared surprisingly well; I didn’t have to chew it forever to get it down, unlike other sushi joints.
Their dynamite roll is sensationally unique with its crispy core, dynamic taste making it different from many other sushi places. Real crab roll is delicious, bite sized and slightly pricy (expected from real crab meat); watch out for the rare shell. Sockeye salmon maki is usually great compared to regular salmon and is comparable to other sushi places that serve sockeye / wild salmon. The house roll is well-rounded with salmo
Lunch was a good time to go since there were decent lunch specials. We got cut off by a busy man who also cut us off once again when we wanted to get the bill, so we ended up sitting at the bar. Actually, I do enjoy sitting at the bar more so that was alright. I got the sushi combo (~$12?) which included seven pieces of nigiri sushi and tuna maki. The leftmost piece on the bottom row is not mine, but Andy's toro nigiri which they place on my plate. The diverse combo included miso soup and a salad as well. The quality of the nigiri sushi was good, and I especially enjoyed the squid sushi. I didn't like the maki as much, but it was still good as it was a good "in between nigiri" snack. Andy got the chirashi-don . That looked pretty good too, with a variety of different fish on top of rice. He also got the unagi nigiri wh
The Spicy Combo is my staple whenever I visit Ajisai. Mainly for two reasons, other than the obvious (taste). One - it's a really good deal and Two - I like how they try to make each roll (scallop, salmon and tuna) distinctly different, using different textures and sauces. But I'm starting to feel bored. And this is in no way Ajisai's fault. I notice the same trend with most of my favorite places >< But at least it means that they are consistent with their food ^^ Tip of the day: do not attempt to eat Ajisai take-out in your car… Their take-out boxes are the flimsy type and they give soy sauce containers rather than packets which means… easy spillage >< Likelihood of revisiting: 80% Culinary mindset: Great place to bring out-of-

I am in the perpetual search for the most delicious sushi. We are so lucky to have such great options here in Vancouver, that it almost seems like a crime to say that I am looking for the best when there are this many options! That’s why when Dennis Pang recommended we stop at Ajisai Sushi Bar in Kerrisdale, I was more than happy to try it out. This place is super packed during lunch time and it’s no wonder why. This little hole in the wall is probably one of the best places to get sushi in Kerrisdale. I ordered the Chirashi bowl, served with several pieces of raw fish which were all very tasty and manageable pieces to enjoy. But what I loved most about this Chirashi bowl is the rice itself. Weird, because I never get excited over rice. Ever. But what is exciting about this rice is that it’s got pieces of Japanese pickle and mushroom mixed into it. I barely finish my rice in my dons, but I ate every grain on this plate. Amazing. All the pieces of fish had a great flavour to them. The b
We ended up at Ajisai. It's a bit hidden as it's sandwiched in between buildings and an alley, I did not know there was a parking lot just around the corner. I ended up feeding the meters on 41st lol Ajisai Sushi Bar 2081 W 42nd Ave, Vancouver BC Tel#: (604) 266-1428 The restaurant is pretty small, Rose had already ordered a bottle of Asahi to start. As such, we decided to share a bottle of sake as well. The waitress was very helpful when we were trying to decide which one we wanted. She was quite knowledgeable as to which would suit our taste for the evening. We decided to start off with Gomae. Despite the picture, there was an ample amount to share between the 2 of us. The sauce was light and flavourful and did not feel drenched.
there are many japanese restaurants in kerrisdale but only a few that are worth going. the seafood salad at a japanese eatery can say a lot about the overall quality, attention to detail, and value of their food in general. having tried all the japanese seafood salads in kerrisdale, here are my rankings from favorite to least favorite: (all take out) 1) ajisai sushi bar well-balanced salad. it was odd seeing tiny shrimps in my salad but they were surprisingly tasty. the dressing looked heavy and oily as it sat in the take out sauce container but it worked with the salad by carrying out an intriguing taste of sesame. 2) asa sushi i don't prefer their greens but they serve the most sashimi slices! 6 pieces of tuna and salmon each. 3) tokyo thyme the portion was small and there wasn't a lot of seafood. i can't recall the dressing but i remember not liking it. 4) shota sushi & grill this tuna salad only had 3 pieces of semi-frozen tuna and really expensive for what it is. the sesame/citrus
You find good food in the most interesting places. While passing through Kerrisdale, one might not expect much in terms of Japanese food. Hidden within a plaza located right behind a London Drugs, you might not find Ajisai Sushi Bar unless you look carefu
