I've been to Viet Sub a few times now and I've never been disappointed by the food. It is a hole in the wall with sitting for under six people. Family run, and has a cozy vibe to it.
Their price point, like most other Vietnamese places in the area is pretty reasonable. You can get a stomach full in under $10 with a Bahn Mi and a salad roll. I especially like their sriracha mayo sauce which you can pour over anything on the menu.
I love Vietnamese subs, so I had to give this place a try. You cant get a decent size sub, with a warm toasty bun and juicy meats for $4.99! I’ve gone to other places where what you get is smaller and quality isn’t as good for maybe a dollar less, but of course I would rather pay a bit more for an actual good sub! For sure a great place to stop by if your looking for a quick, cheap but good eat!
I was in the mood for noodle soup so I decided to drop by here to try their pho since it has very good review. My first impression is it is very tiny restaurant with very limited seats. I ordered beef balls pho, shrimp salad roll and special sub to go. The customer service is very friendly and attentive so that’s a bonus and you rarely see very friendly customer service at Vietnamese restaurants. The pho was average and salad roll was actually one roll cut in half. The salad roll was bigger than other restaurants. I ate the sub at night and it was very different from other Vietnamese subs. The meat tasted completely different but it was lots of generous stuffing. I like their Vietnamese mayonnaise but didn’t necessarily like their other mayo sauce. It was decent sub but not authentic typical Vietnamese sub.
My rating:
Customer service 4.5
Pho 3.0
Salad roll 3.5
Sub 3.5
Funny what sticks out about this place but first impressions count. My 1st impression was "these people are so friendly, I just want to give them my money". Seriously, the staff's smiles are genuine, the service is caring and the food is tasty. I usually go for the banh mi. Every's right about them - from the calibre of the bread to the mix of flavours to the price. And delivered with a smile. It's tiny - there's a good chance you'll need to wait outside for your food and there's little space for dining inside. But on the way to or from the VPL, it's the perfect stop for a sandwich.
This restaurant sits near the end of Robson headed to Denman. Service is friendly and quick. Restaurant is extremely clean. Cheap prices. Food is really good, the spring rolls were my favorite.
If you have never had Vietnamese food served with a smile and incredible attention to your dining experience, you will never find a better place than this. They really provide exceptional service. I've visited this location multiple times and each time I have been nothing less than thrilled with their staff and delicious pho amongst many other options that are sure to satisfy your taste buds. My favorite is the special chicken noodle pho combined with their tasty fusion rolls, which are a combination of a salad roll and a deep fried spring roll. I'm going right now!!
As far as subs go, these are very authentic and very tasty! They use a slightly different homemade sauce which is a bit of a surprise but works very well. I had the cold cut and my partner had the veggie one which he said was excellent. Service is quick and friendly. I have also tried their vermicelli dish, which is average, but since this is predominantly a banh mi place, I don't think it fair to judge them on their other dishes which are merely supplementing what they're best at and renowned for, the banh mi.
Their subs are okay - nothing too awe-inspiring. A bit of cheese in their Banh Mi would have made a big difference. And the limited seating and ambiance within the restaurant make for a mixed experience.
Small little shop on Robson but it's hard to miss since there's a huge sign saying VIET SUB across it. There's only a couple of seats inside (shop is made for quick eats) and one cashier. Their subs have a certain kind of sauce in it that differs from the generic viet subs (and it makes it really tasty!) they also have bottles of sauces along the wall beside the door for people who just can't get enough of it :). Would definitely recommend, yummy food and friendly staff!
If you're hungry and you wanna eat some good quality food, but saving up money.. I would recommend this place. The sub is good, it's not crappy for its price. One of my cheap finds today ☺
Good value and taste. I wouldn't say this is the best Viet place but for the price and taste it is a good choice esp around that area there are not many choices. It is a small warm place and it is good for one person to have a quick meal:)
Customer Service is FANTASTIC!!!. These guys are the best. Always so friendly and helpful. I'm vegetarian so I've only eaten the veggie sub but it's really good and you can't beat the price.
Special Pho C4. Strong star anise flavour, slightly saltier than I'm used to, but still enjoyed it.

Love the crunchiness of the baguette -- the French bread is not too hard, but perfectly crispy and toasty on the outside, my favorite part of a viet sub. Great service, excellent taste -- awesome value! One of the best cheap eats in Vancouver. I go downtown some days just for this.
Salad Wraps. Amazing. Great price. Great food. Efficient service. I adore this little hole in the wall :)
Great Value. I had the BBQ Pork Sub. The Baguette was very fresh and fluffy, there was an adequate amount of meat inside, with fresh onions, lettuce and cilantro, the chipotle mayo soy sauce tastes amazing on it, and for $4.25 this is a great deal. It costs more to get a mediocre hotdog from a hotdog stand on the street. I also had some pork salad rolls that were very fresh and tasty as well. This can easily become a staple joint for me providing sustenance on a weekly level!
Best vietnamese sub so far!. Great taste, great quality and great value!
The stuff is always friendly and helpful. The food is fresh and taste awesome! I highly recommend it.
Delicious, cheap, fast, fresh. I've had both the chicken and BBQ sandwiches, both were delicious. Shredded carrot, onion, radish on top of tasty meat. No complaints about the bread- and the sandwiches were filling. I tried the rare beef noodle soup tonight, and they packaged up my to-go soup with the meat/noodles/onions separate, and a bag with bean sprouts and basil. Very nice. I would for sure recommend, and will be back the next time I need a quick bite.
An awesome sub!. When looking for a Viet Sub, I look for that nice texture to the bun, and a flavorful meat with sauce. This place indeed has both. What an awesome sub. The bun has the right amount of toastedness, and the BBQ pork meat is delightful. Will definitely go back to try others.
Convenient, quick, tasty value. I was spending the day working in my hotel room on Richards, and popped out to Viet Sub for a quick lunch (guided by the good reviews on Urbanspoon!). I meant to eat in, but the few seats were occupied, so I got a chicken noodle soup to go. Five minutes later and just $7 lighter, I was back in my room, savouring a yummy bowl of goodness! Fresh, aromatic, and delicious. It even had a couple of eggs - presumably quail? - for an extra layer of complexity. I also loved that there were still pieces of chicken when I got to the bottom of the bowl! Perfect for a cool, wet day. I will return and would recommend it to others.
Great viet subs!. Tasty and cheap, would recommend.
I love this place. I always get a veggie sub. Pickled veggies, tofu, crispy bun, delish mayo, cilantro.. $3.75 I never get looks when I request nothing spicy on it, the same guy on till usually. He's always so pleasant and nice. I go out of my way when I'm downtown to come here, and I'm always recommending this place to friends.
Awesome Sandwich. I had the BBQ Pork Sub for lunch. This might be the best sandwich I've ever eaten. Cilantro, veggies, pork, and a delicious creamy sauce on a french hoagie with a crispy crust. Delicious!
Omnomnom. This place is by far the best place for Vietnamese subs in the city. If I could, I'd eat there daily.
Nomnom. Amazing banh mi! i always have their chicken banh mi and it never fails me ~
Amazing subs, affordable and delicious. Highly recommended!
For 6.45, food was pretty good. recommend c1. not a lot of MSG. will come if looking for quick fix.
Viet Sub has opened there doors again. They have moved two doors down but still have the same tasty menu at a reasonable price.
Good luck!. I really hope Viet Sub comes back soon!! They are one of my favorite places to get a quick dinner downtown-- hands down the best subs downtown! Good luck w/ the renovations and look forward to seeing you reopen soon!
Friendly service and good food. I had the BBQ pork sub and my wife had the chicken sub. The bread was definitely better than most of the Vietnamese subs we've tried before. Now that we've tried th, we'll be back whenever we're looking for a non- fast-food, quick lunch or picnic snack.
Beef Pho was tasty and good value for $7. Fast as well if you're on the go. Not my laborite place, but I'll be going back next time I get the Pho hunger.
Inexpensive and delicious. Plus the spring roll is like crack. fast and friendly. go there.
Veggie sub. The Veggie sub had deep fried tofu w/ spicy sauce under the layer of pickled carrots, pickled daikon, slices of onion, jalapenos, and cucumber, and of course sprigs of cilantro. It was filling but still had a light taste.
pretty good for under $4. Watch out for the jalapeno slices - they might surprise you and send you running for water if you're not expecting them to be there.
10 times better than subway. These guys makes some great subs toasted and rolled in front of your eyes. The ingredients are typical to viet style subs, and the taste is exceptional. Fast, cheap ($~4/sub) and friendly. The special sub is the well rounded choice I usually go for, but they also have some good pho noodle soups.
Viet Sub is a hole in the wall culinary delight located on Robson St, relatively close to Granville Station and Vancouver Central Library. It’s Urbanspoon’s top pick for 2012 and universally acclaimed throughout the lower mainland. Immediately walking in, you’ll probably be greeted by the uber-friendly son behind the counter. He is immensely polite, nice and fluent in both English and Vietnamese. You’ll be asked for an order, and you have a whole bunch of selections to choose from. Their menu include several renditions of Vietnamese sub sandwiches, Phở, and spring rolls. They’re most renowned for their Sub-$5 Banh Mi sandwiches, which usually goes for $4.50 (+tax or 0.25). I got the meatball Banh Mi, and I was seated outside. The space inside the restaurant is limited to a single table propped up against the constant bustle of the counter and a sit-down bar along the outside window. It’s cramped and I personally don’t feel there’s isn’t much point to sitting inside unless the weather outside is horrific. A Meatball Bánh mì – Source: Jimmy Chen / Released Under (CC BY-SA 4.0) Within minutes, I was served at my table with the aforementioned sandwich in a wicker tray and an indistinguishable Styrofoam cup of tea. The Sandwich was composed of fresh crispy bread, unidentifiable sauce (it was good though!), daikon, preserved carrots, a parseley leaf and scattered meatballs. It was brilliantly crafted. The meat, bread and vegetables in the perfect proportions, blended together to create a whole new diverse range of flavours. This sandwich was something special for sure. You will probably wonder if that was probably one of the best sandwiches you’ve ever had, or at least the best one you’ve had for under $5. But the sandwich will probably get a little drippy at one point. The tea is more or less hot leaf juice. I felt this was necessary. But there was
The meats are perfect and the pickled vegetables add flavours that you don’t get in most sandwiches Bread is always super fresh and crispy, it gets kind of messy with all the crumbs! This sandwich is a steal at under $5 They have a sauce, it’s probably just siracha-mayo, in a siracha bottle on the counters inside. Goes perfectly on the sandwich! Everyone should try it Final Thoughts Best viet sub in the city and a total steal at $5, especially on Robson street!
In search of something hearty and filling, but not devoiding of my wallet, I ventured towards the juicy, meaty smell (mmmm…can just smell it now) coming from Viet Sub and the joints around it. For $4.50, you get a pretty massively sized BBQ Pork sandwich. The bread was very toasty and crunchy (sign of fresh bread, off to a good start!). I loved the pickled daikon and onion in this, they were just super flavourful and really added a kick to every bite. The BBQ Pork was very juicy and flavourful on its own but they added some sort of sauce to it (Sorry I really have no idea what it was, but it made it super savoury with a hint of sweetness). The combination of the pungent pickled daikon with the savoury meat just made this thing SOOO SOOO GOOD!
...Viet Sub holds its own as a small but popular, family-operated restaurant dishing out authentic Vietnamese comfort food. With owner Long Bui The father and son team, Cuong and Long Bui, opened Viet Sub three years ago and have been satisfying taste buds with their moderately priced banh mi (Vietnamese subs), pho (noodle soups) and salad rolls. Viet Sub #1 with Urbanspoon They were even recognized by Urbanspoon, an international restaurant directory and review website, as the 2012 Top Vancouver Restaurant for Cheap Eats $. Shrimp Salad Roll Opting to dine-in, I was offered some complimentary hot tea to go with my starter, the shrimp salad roll. The delicate strands of Vermicelli noodles, crispy green lettuce and cold shrimp, all encased in a thin rice paper, were light and refreshing and best dipped in the sweet peanut sauce. Vietnam was once a Frenc
4.5/5 [Right beside Japadog] YOOOO THIS PLACE IS AWESOME !!!! I've never had a Bahn Mi (Viet Sub) before this place and it was downright delicious. There was also free tea which was really great. I got the Kimchi Sub (Vegetarian) ($4.5) and the bread was perfection. The perfect baguette warmed perfectly. So crispy and has a good chew to it. The insides are also perfection. The tofu were soft and tasty, and the kimchis and other pickled sweets were all great flavored. I also got a Chicken roll which was disappointing. The chicken was really dry and had no flavor. Would not order again. Angel
It’s REALLY hard to complain when you get a sandwich for less than $5, ESPECIALLY when you’re in downtown. Of course, since the sub was pretty tasty – I really have little else to complain about. You may not be stuffed after eating this sub, but if bloated is what you’re going for, grab two – seriously, you can afford it.
I really enjoyed my sub and I will definitely be going back to try other ones.
The menu is pretty simple; They have a variety of subs, pho, and a couple spring roll sides all at really affordable prices.
In search of a cheap meal during my lunch break, I found myself at Robson Street's Viet Sub Vietnamese Cuisine , which is actually one of the top restaurants on Urbanspoon . It does seem to be quite popular during lunch time, with many patrons opting to do take out. On the first occasion, I tried the BBQ Sub with pork, beef, chicken and meatball ($4.25) . This seemed to be the most "deluxe" of the banh mis, since it was a whopping 50 cents extra! I liked the bread, which was lightly toasted, though I actually didn't love the sauce that came with this. It was slightly sweet and kind of reminded me of teriyaki. Still, everything else was decent, and I vowed to come back again to try some other banh mis. On the second occasion, after a brisk walk, I was fairly cold and decided to splurge a little and get pho instead. The special beef noodle soup with rare beef, beef ball, and well-done beef ($6.45) was pretty good. A fair bit smaller than the usual pho I'm used to, but a respectable amo

Good and cheap place for Vietnamese subs in downtown for under $5. Their pho is under $8. It’s a small place so I usually grab it to go and bring it back to the office.
With only $7 in my pocket, I didn't know what I could eat for lunch... and finding a place where I can buy lunch for less than $10 downtown is quite rare. After much thinking, I remembered Viet Sub. It's a small (really small) hole in the wall sandwiched between the Beard Papa's and Kushi Box on Robson. They serve a variety of Vietnamese subs, pho and salad rolls. It's a place where you can get lunch for under $10! The salad rolls are about $2.75, subs range from $3.25 - $4.25 and pho for $6.45. My co-work
Viet Sub is a very popular place on Robson to grab some lunch. The sandwiches can be under $4 and the pho is about $6. There were lineups out the door, but most people were just doing takeout. The interior is very very small, so it's not a place to take a group of people here. Best to just take out and sit outside the art gallery to enjoy some sun. The reason why people keep going back is because it's cheap and worth the price! Chicken with French Bread ($4.20) was a good price for what you get! The chicken is nicely shredded on the bottom and has a good amount of pickled vegetables and cucumber in a milky bun. I really really like the buns they use. I kinda hate bread, but I could probably eat it all day. Overall, I had a good experience just walking around the street eating it. Quick and easy. Words of Wisdom: Under $10 Small interior, best to takeout Viet subs and the noodle soups are good! We Rate Viet Sub : Address: 520 Robson St Vancouver, BC
Nestled between the Japadog restaurant and Beard Papa's on the end of Robson Street in Vancouver is a nice little family owned and run sandwich shop called simply, Viet Sub. And that's what they specialize in, authentic, Vietnamese submarine sandwiches made in traditional style with French baguettes (a throwback to the days when Vietnam was a French colony, resulting in all sorts of Asian-Fren
a great restaurant for delicious Vietnamese food at affordable prices
The shop is a tiny eatery with only a table for two, and a few individual seats facing the window. Although the place is small
Viet Sub? I know what a Viet sub is but I've never had one before. While I was wondering about my "beef concern", EU said they offer chicken as well as Vietnamese ham.
Previous to my visit to Viet Sub Vietnamese Cuisine, I had never tried a banh mi. The other food bloggers always went on and on about them, but I personally didn't find the pictures especially appetizing. It was just a sub. Whats so special? And the ingre
I was really blown away and was so glad we stopped.
We had been here once before, during the summer, when we were exploring downtown for one of the first times. We had a great lunch back then, and thought this would fit the bill nicely for a light, quick supper. Given it’s location so near to the Robson/Gr
Viet Sub was our first stop on our first food walk expedition, what a place to start off the food walk! This place is tiny, but it sells quite a few items from Vietnamese Subs, to Pho, to varies salad rolls. We decided to try a couple of their subs: Deep
I look forward to lunch so much sometimes that I wonder if I go to work just for the lunch. I'm sure anyone who toil away in an office for over 1/3 of their waking hours can relate. But depressing statistics aside, the lunch breaks at work have been a pre
One good thing about working in Vancouver Downtown is that, after work, you have access to a lot of restaurants within walking distance. Whether it is a pub to have drinks to wind down, burgers for something “familiar”, bistros for something different, et
Viet Sub is a small hole in the wall that serves such Vietnamese delights as sandwiches, salad rolls and noodle soups. It sits sandwiched between a number of restaurants on Robson Street. Viet Sub is tiny with limited seating for
I had their Lemongrass Chicken on Steamed Rice with Egg, and it was really good, and great value. The chicken was juicy and delicious, and the lemongrass rice had an interesting, fresh flavour. The owner was also very friendly, and the service fast. I only wish the dish had some stirfried veggies, which would go better with the rice than the raw salad. Also, the rice was a bit cold and hard, and I think the dish would have tasted better with warm rice. For the price point though, I really can't complain. Note that they are a takeout-only restaurant, although there are a few (very few) seats inside the restaurant and outside.
I am currently sitting here eating one of the best Bahn Mi's I've had. Vancouver is an expensive city no matter how you stack it and for something so reasonably price and delicious. If you live local or work local absolutely give it a go. Cheap, delicious food that supports local business. Heaps good stuff
Came here as it was en route to where I was going and I was craving pho for days. So glad I stopped on! The service was awesome the staff is super friendly! The soup tasted great! 👌🏻 Space is limited so it’s not a place to go if you have a group of people. Also I wish they didn’t use plastic bowls for dine in option but minor detail. I will have to drop by again to try their subs!
Worth eating out here. Their banh mi tasted very good. Their lemongrass chicken is also delicious. I would come back more for Vietnamese food. It feels like you’re in Vietnam! Small restaurant but food quality is good.
Went here on a whim, and got the cold cut banh mi. It was really good, tasted fresh, and I found the filling to bread ratio spot on. Will be back to try other ones and their rolls!
Friendly staff and quick service!
Got Lemongrass Chicken Banh Mi & Lemongrass Pork Banh Mi, great flavors!
4 Stars cause the portion balance was off.
One sub was under $8... 🤯 What a deal!
First of all: the bread was delicious. It was fresh and tasting good. I had the chicken bbq sub. It was good. Nothing extraordinary. I also had some spring rolls. It was good. The staff is friendly and offered a good service.
Cheap, affordable and SO GOOD!! My favorite things on the menu are the shrimp salad roll and the grilled chicken roll! The guy in the glasses is always so nice and welcoming
