Review Hariyali Express Indian Cuisine & Bar - Vancouver

I ordered butter chicken and garlic naan. Both delicious! Perfect level of spicy! Also Mango Lassie was good combination! Definitely recommend. I experienced a warm and good service there even though I ordered for takeout. I can feel they are really care about the food! Nice place good vibe :)

We found this restaurant on the Vancouver dine out list and the menu sounded delicious. We ordered the Zaffrani Malai Murg, Semolina Fried Fish for appetizers, Lamb Bhuna and Creamy Malai Kofta for entrees, and Shahi Tulsa and Srikhand Cannoli for desserts. We were also pleasantly surprised that each course came with a wine pairing included in the price. The food was amazing and service was top notch. The staff was super friendly and felt very personable.

We tried their Lamb Roganjosh and rice. The food was delicious; perfect balance of spices and flavour. The lamb portion was moderately big; rice portion was large. The ambience was not bad. I would like to try their other Indian dishes.

Had a lovely time, our waiter was very kind and took the time to remember our names. The atmosphere was very relaxing and we didn’t feel rushed. The food itself was delicious, very filling and so flavourful. We also received a hand written thank you/happy holiday card. We well be coming back soon.

Out of so many Indian restaurants that I’ve tried in Vancouver, I liked their Malai Kofta…Daal Makhni was too thick. Tandoori Roti was better than lachha praantha… Masala Chai was perfect! Thank you for the complimentary Chai.

Chefs review- The cook here poured his heart and soul on the plate. Limited people for service in the restaurant, still floated a great Friday night service. The chicken korma was excellent and the only place in Canada I have had proper naan and roti which wasn’t stretchy (usually Baking Soda, Gluten extract added) The chicken in the biryani was first cooked in tandoor and then mixed in added a much layer of complexity. To my surprise the dine was great, and the team sent a house made water goblet pouches to accommodate the time. Like any great Indian restaurant, you can tell a lot about a restaurant through its green chutney and biryani. Try those two, and you will always know. I will be back, hungry for more!

The ambience was amazing with all the colourful paintings and cute plants. Tried their fried chicken and butter chicken poutine, poutine tasted different and it was okay. We got chai as compliment it was a good cup of tea.

I had a unpleasant experience at this restaurant, service was ok. The girl at the bar was nice and kind, but the guy (server) seems to be very lazy. First he forgot to mention about the drinks menu that they did not have certain drinks available and then when I asked for the price for a drink which was not in the menu but was available he seemed unsure. Food-wise, absolutely not happy it was so spicy that me and my girlfriend couldn’t even finish the meal and had to ask for takeaway boxes to go. I myself worked in a restaurant and we always asked customers for the level of spicy ness they want you know mild, medium or hot, but they didn’t even bother to ask us and gave us really spicy food. I have a very sensitive stomach so anything spicy would make my stomach hurt, same goes for my girlfriend she cannot stand spicy ness. I went to this place because the vibe seems to be nice there and reviews were good too, but I didn’t feel the same way other people have. I wouldn’t say that I don’t recommend but whoever go there please keep these things in mind. It is not a bad place just these errors made my experience unpleasant thats all.

It's been awhile, and a few countries ago, since I've had Indian food this tasty. Rich, delicious, just the right levels of spice (you can choose - we got our vindaloo HOT, and the butter chicken medium). Small place, good service, but it is the food that is the star here. We loved the lamb - it was rich, not just spicy, and the meat was tender. Naan is fantastic but BIG. Unless you are super hungry, share one order of naan with 2 people.Totally going back when the Indian craving hits again.

It was such a pleasant surprise to walk into siddharthas and discover that they have a halal menu (certificate provided). The food was delicious but what beat that was the impeccable customer service! Both the server and the owner went the extra mile to ensure we had a wonderful experience on a random rainy night and were not shy to offer suggestions and share their stories! We even got to experiment with a few up and coming desserts which were deelish!! For example, lamb is a very tough dish to get right but this was delicious as it was tender not chewy and cooked very well to eliminate that distinct lamb Smell- definitely worth checking out! Gluten free and nut free, as well as, vegan options available!

Very impressed with the food, place and service! Love their tandoori, garlic butter naan, even the sauces, mmm...love everything! Authentic Indian cuisine at it's finest! And the prices are reasonable! Will definitely recommend this to our friends!

Great food and atmosphere- The chef is a master at creating new dishes . Highly recommend it

My most favourite restaurant on Commercial Drive! Healthy, comfort food at its finest accompanied by fantastic service. Must have dishes are butter chicken and baigan bharta. Perfect place for a gathering with friends or date night!

While I was at Siddharthas Choudhary, location a beautiful essence of peace was felt in my heart and his passion and knowledge in the world of Chef Mastery was insightful and inspiring. It was nice to have him with our Latincouver's Event Carnaval Del Sol where he guided and supported local talent and the audience with his talents. Would I recommend his resturant .. Of course ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🌈 Great human and great eats. blisstOut

The most delicious Indian cuisine in all of Vancouver. We should have had dinner here today (June 3rd 2018) as it is our 12 wedding anniversary today. Next time! Lots of love Siddhartha Bhai!

Goes above and beyond customer service. Friendly and tentative staff, you always feel welcome. The value is amazing and the taste is fantastic. One of my top restaurants to host our events at.

We had 5 different dishes which were all delicious. Very happy to see that you are licenced now. We have been eating at Siddhartha's since they opened, loved every bite. ❤️

DELICIOUS! Just moved to Vancouver and were looking for a good Indian, we definitely found the one. Friendly driver too. The only thing I would like to see change is the Styrofoam and plastic take away container they are using, compostable one would be so much better :) Edit : They have changed their take away containers for compostable one!!! Yay!! I can now give a full 5 stars!!!! :D

Great butter chicken , lamb , dessert and wine :) Splendid!

Always great food and very creative presentations.

Indian food is a love of mine. I come from the UK but I can't see me having Indian food back home now, this restaurant tops them all! I'll certainly be going back on my next trip to Vancouver. Great, flavourful food and fantastic service! Worth the air fair and then some

Attended an event held here recently, and was pleasantly surprised! Food was delicious, service was friendly - looking forward to going back!

Siddhartha's (the owner) policy is to take all of servers tips and keep them for himself and the manager (which is illegal). The food is fine but boycott at all costs due to the breach of servers rights. Don't fund this greed when there are so many other great Indian restaurants you could go to instead.

Plus he did not even pay me a wage (nevermind tips) for the work I did there even though he repeatedly told me he would. He completely takes advantage.

Amazing food, amazing service and amazing people. What more can you ask for? It's so hard to find such an amazing, warm, friendly culture in restaurants. But Siddhartha's Indian Kitchen has done it all. The staff is super friendly and offers plenty of suggestions on the menu. The mango mojito has lots of fresh mango taste to it, which I love! Everything is very flavourful and tasty! I loved the potato naan and butter chicken! The Thali platter is great for sharing and sampling as well.

Good Place,good décor,Good food
Atmosphere is also friendly
It's also vegetarian friendly!!!!
Good place for Indian tourists or residents
Recommended!

This place was a wonderful find. Comfortable, friendly atmosphere. Three of us dined here and shared several dishes. We all agreed everything had a wonderful flavour. I felt it was the best East Indian food I have tasted in a while. We started with a sampler, Naan, Aloo Gobhi, Chana Masala, Chicken Biryani and Galab Jamun. The food was very reasonable.
Rohit Korgaonkar
Good food. Great service. And wig friends yo don’t mind the ambience either. Both the starter platter and the main course were on par with the good restaurants in India.
Saibal Modak
Ambience was good but small dinning space. Food was above average, not the best in the locality. Overall an average experience. It will be better if they can add more dishes to their present menu.

The service is great, the male server that was working there was so kind and attentive! In terms of food it was good okay. it's very delicious, i would like to recommended to all....

Strange dining experience. I ordered what the menu described as 1/2 a tandoori chicken and salad. What was served at my table was a plate consisting of a few small, heavily seasoned chicken legs and a small piece of dark meat. The "salad" was nothing more than a few small slices of cucumber and tomato. I had enjoyed previous meals at this restaurant that were very good. Don't trust the older reviews. The restaurant now seems to be under new ownership, which might explain the decline in food quality.

Back to Siddhartha's Indian Kitchen! It was a pretty spontaneous whim on the part of my friend. Luckily I had my previous blog post on Siddhartha's to remind me of what I had had before. Vegetable Pakora ($6.50). Nothing special tasting here. Price feels sort of high for what you get. Smoked Eggplant Curry ($12.50)

Looking for peace in the chaos of a working day, I walked into Siddartha's expecting to be welcomed by a sari dressed beauty, smells of freshly made curries and soft chants. Instead I was welcomed by an Asian woman, blasting Ofra Haza songs and big screen TV on CNN. The food, described as healthy Indian soul food, included a salty North American style salad with cranberries surrounded by Aloo Tikki and chaat with cucumbers and red peppers.

I can go on penning down the most subtle words of praise in favor of Siddhartha’s Kitchen and it still would not be enough to describe the delightful surprise their food packs in. I was not really a fan of Indian cuisine until I grabbed a bite at this restaurant. Ah, the delicious combination of smoky butter chicken and basmati rice! Will be back again next week with my friends to enjoy a hearty meal.
TheHappySloths
The service was nice and the decor was cozy. Overall the food was just average/below average. It wasn't clearly stated, but the entrees came with rice and roti, so the naan we ordered were kind of unnecessary.

Vegetable Pakora: Kind of stale, chewy, not at all fresh.Butter Chicken: Good flavors but the few chicken pieces included had a really weird and mushy texture.
Chana Masala (Chickpeas): This was actually pretty good, the flavors were there and the chickpeas still had a nice bite to them, not too mushy.
Simon
Siddhartha’s Indian Kitchen is one of those places I keep walking by but never bothered to go in. Glad I finally did on a rainy night to find it a warm and artsy place with dim lighting, generous spacing, and friendly staff. Lots of nut-free, gluten-free, and/or vegan items! Curries felt slighty on the watery side but otherwise taste is good. Price for portion OK.
Zane Phillips
30 minutes late in delivery and didn't pick up phone when we tried to inquire of it's whereabouts (this is after multiple attempts). Had to give driver further instructions on how to reach us. Overall a very frustrating and hungry experience. Never ordering from there again. Do not eat there! Just not worth the terrible service.

It was our pleasure to eat out at Siddhartha's Kitchen. I went out there with a group of my friends. We ordered butter naan, daal makhani, a variety platter and gulab jamun. The variety platter was very tasty and I liked it the most. Daal makhani was also good. Would love to come back to this Indian restaurant again.

Their blurb: “Give a Flavours to Your Taste Buds” (their words, not mine)

Booths? No
When I dined: 3pm on a Tuesday
Noisy? No
Candies with your bill? I didn’t get my bill so no.

MY REVIEW: I wanted a place with good-size tables to work on some drawings and I saw that Siddhartha’s was completely empty. I have actually had food here twice before, both times it was takeout, and both times it was disappointing. The first time they actually gave me someone else’s order which I found out when I got home and opened the bag. I walked the food back to the restaurant (luckily it’s less than 2 blocks from my home) and when I got my replacement food I found that they had still got the order wrong.

This time, however, I ate in. I was served right away, which was not surprising since I was the lone customer. They had lunch specials but it took some finagling to get an order of butter chicken with naan substituted for rice. I ordered pakoras and they were delicious. The chai was fine and I think it came with the meal. The butter chicken was only satisfactory, fairly bland, but the naan was outstanding, perfectly crispy, not too doughy, with a thin layer of oil.

The place looks a bit upscale on the inside but who really cares? Despite the lack of clientele I could have used a bit more attention from the staff. I was only offered water at the tail end of my meal, and I had to get up to find out about the bill. This is not a deal-breaker but did not impress.

The price for what I ordered was surprisingly low. Maybe it’s a lunch special deal. Or maybe they made a mistake. Lucky me!

Biggest Rave: I was not distracted by the presence of customers

Biggest Rant: The music was annoying whispering nonsense semi-new age wankery. Even if they had played pleasant music, it would still have been 20% too loud.

The food is decent for the price. I find it odd that Thai people are working at an Indian restaurant though? Not sure if it's authentic.....

Neighbourhood Gem!. I love Siddhartha's Kitchen! It is one of my go to restaurant whenever I get to town! The people there are wonderful and welcoming - always offering a cup of chai if you have to wait. The food is amazing - love the Aloo Tikki Chaat and the Biryani is to die for. Chef Siddhartha is just simply the best - friendly and knowledgeable, and always checks to see if you've enjoyed your meal. HIghly recommend you stop by...
Picky Diner
How about a round of Tandoori chicken drumstick to warm up those taste buds? My first bite was rich and flavourful with the Indian spices, but once I dug into the tender and moist meat under the skin, the flavours became rather subtle. I do appreciate dishes with subtle flavours that are delicate, but I often expect a big punch of flavours when I eat at a Indian restaurant.

Is this place closed?. I have been trying to call for reservations for a month but no one ever picks up the phone and voicemail is full. I even tried booking online (their own website) but never received a response. I understand they were closed for a month for renos but was under the assumption they reopened in sept. Does anyone know if this place is still open?

Nice decor, good service. I don't eat Indian much but I thought this was good. Naan bread needed more flavor. Would go back.

Mediocre Experience. Tried this place on Commercial Drive a couple of times. The food was just ok and service was ok.

The room is decorated nicely, and the place is clean. Unlike most typical Indian places, they have a relatively small menu, which I like because it allows the restaurant to focus on fewer dishes and quality.

Tried the Chana Masala, Chicken Pakora, Butter Chicken and Naan. Food taste was average although they plate and present the traditional dishes in a more refined manner. I didn't like the Butter Chicken and the Chana Masala was the best of the 3 dishes. Don't get me wrong, this food was very clean and well presented, but for the price point and presentation, I would have expected better flavor.

A few reviewers have commented on the owner. I had a brief conversation with him and noticed how he could rub people the wrong way as his communication style is a abrasive. I was there to eat, not chat, but unfortunately, the dishes I tried didn't quite do it for me. Worth a try to see what you think. I'll pursue better options on the Drive...

Great food and service!. Really nice servers here, I came in to order take out and they gave me a nice hot cup of chai literally not even a minute after I walked in the door. Very friendly, we had a nice talk while I waited. I ordered samosas, pakoras, and the chana masala, and everything was amazing! The chana masala, which I find at some restaurants to be a little bland, had a great flavour to it. Highly recommend!

It's like people have never eaten Indian food before, this place is nothing special.

My first attempt to eat here was delivery, and after an absolutely awful experience with the food never arriving I ordered pick up a few days later. My bill was far more than I usually pay for similar, equally as tasty and bigger portions. Aside from the chai tea I was served while waiting (it was delicious), the food was of average fare.

Although, I felt safe eating it. Not like some seedy rundown corner stop, this renovated location was CLEAN. That specific detail gives this place an edge.

But the horrific customer service!!! And not from the wait staff, the guy whose face is splashed all over the website, that's why. I almost vowed never to eat here because of that one experience but the reviews, which ironically touch on similar poor service, swayed me to try. Next time I'm feeling rich, and want to roll the dice on customer service I'll give these guys another go. Until then I'll stick with old faithful(s), and roll the dice on rotten lamb.

My boyfriend and I decided to stop in at Siddharthas hoping to find some yummy chicken and ended up ordering a platter. Siddharthas was our first Indian restaurant we tried, and were very pleased by. The prices seem a little high but the chicken was delicious as we hoped. Highly recommended even for vegetarians, the tofu and paneer had a very impressive texture and taste!
Michy Lee
Overpriced, my drink tasted horrible like artificial mix, our food took a long time and the table that came in later got their food first but it was cold, my food was ok but the chicken was dry. Not worth it.
Nn
A bit sheisty. Hmmm. didn't honour a discount that was offered. made it seem like chai was complementary then charged 3.00 for a small cup. ended up costing twice the price i expected
I Love Food
Used a groupon tried different items off the menu (no issues ordering) everything was delicious. Complimentary chai to start was a nice touch given the cold day. Service attentive. Super cool ambiance. Family operated. Modern Indian with a twist. Will be back!

Talk about a bad experience..... Wow. I am rarely one to write a negative restaurant review but....... To all Vancouverites and future visitors to Vancouver....DO NOT EAT at Siddhartha’s Indian restaurant on Commercial Drive. I just spent the last 20 minutes arguing with the manager about my Groupon. While it stated that the Groupon was not valid for platters, there was apparently a billion other hidden restrictions which we did not find out about until the bill came. When the manager was finally called over he spent most of his time arguing how he barely makes any money off Groupon customers. A) You, as a business, are not forced to participate in Groupon and you would have been fully aware of the percentage Groupon takes when you signed the contract, b) I did not appreciate how you addressed only my husband for the first 5 minutes as if I would have no purpose or role in the conversation.....that is until I interrupted, rebutting all your points. With plenty of amazing restaurants on The Drive, I will not be returning to yours. End of story.
Missshannon
I liked it. I had the butter paneer and a samosa liked the samosa and chutney it came with.. the butter paneer was good not watery not one of my fave restaurants but thought it was good! the sauce was rich which I like! a bit on the expensive side...

Great for a late lunch. I went with 3 friends one Saturday in October for late lunch around 4pm. We hadn't eaten all day. Three of us had the meat platter for $10.99 each and one had the vegetarian platter. It was just the right amount of food, and tasted good.

Naan had to be ordered separately which I thought was odd, but it comes as 4 portions, so seemed to be a good value. I see the previous review was for dinner, so I'm not sure if the platter portion is the same for lunch as for dinner.
Chai was served in a small teacup so you need to ask the server if you want a refill. It tasted fine to me and I didn't need to add any sugar..although plenty was offered.

The restaurant feels large and open with basic tables, and a large buddha painting on the wall. Serene is the word I would use. It was very comfortable, and the temperature was just right considering it was a bit cold outside.

I think there were 3 staff total, one being the owner, and our first waiter didn't seem to understand our questions very well, so language could be a challenge

I would go back...I don't live in the area but they apparently offer discounts through their website and facebook. I didn't notice if the service was particularly slow because we were in a group and chatting. We were able to get in and out within an hour. Limited parking nearby.
Amina_patel2002
Tasty Food BUT ..... VERY EXPENSIVE... I personally ordered a Mixed Platter and it was not worth $17 as the portion is not enough for 1 person who has a good appetite. Waiting time is too long for a limited choice of foods on the menu. After 1/2 hr of ordering at around 7:30pm, I was told the "Channa Masala" is not available which I think is not acceptable on a Saturday evening as it is still dinner time, as management should assess Saturday evening foods in demand. Overall, I would not recommend this restaurant.

AMAZING!. You should eat here. Why are you not eating here. No seriously, go eat here.

Beautiful presentation, excellent food and reasonable portions. Friendly staff, excellent location and a beautifully decorated establishment. There are so many reasons I loved this experience.

I had the vegetable korma with basil naan and my companion had lamb korma with cumin basmati. The veg korma is perfectly sweet with easily identifiable seasoning notes, all masterfully balanced. The vegetables are charred on a skewer and blend with the sauce wonderfully. Everything fits together so nicely and is beautifully seasoned without (and this is important) overdoing it or being too oily (a common problem with some indian cuisine).

The lamb was a savoury dish, also well spiced, and had wonderful texture. I was especially impressed by how well the lamb came through in the sauce.

Sadly, the chai tea was slightly lacking in spice , though not unpleasant. The staff were very receptive to this feedback however so turning negatives into positives, right?

I will certainly be eating here again, I implore you to join me next time the fancy catches you.

Absolutely delicious food! In my19 year-old son's words "they don't cheap out on the meat!!" In both the lamb vindaloo and chicken and spinach, the ratio of meat to sauce is really generous and si tender! Usually with Indian takeout you have a few small bits of meat swimming around in a river of sauce. Not so here. They also deliver to us even though we're out of the delivery 'zone'. Nothing over here on the West Side matches up. Very reasonable too!
Coors
The most money for the least food I have spent in years. There delivery portions are about 2/3 the size of most places. Its good, but its not that good. I bought three dishes at $45 and it was not enough to fill 3 people I have had much better results for Indian food on the drive.

Amazing food. Great service. Definitely try the butter chicken and the homemade are incredible.
HG
Fantastic experience. The butter chicken was delicious and service was great.
Kristina
Great food, great service. The food was very delicious - I tried the butter chicken as well as the samosas. Honestly, the rice was absolutely delicious. They use some special spices to season the rice and it is just wonderful. Not to mention the decor was superb and the service was great. Definitely recommend !
James
Good customer service, good food. Customer service incredible throughout. chicken korma is a must-try. butter chicken is different compared to those one you get from other restaurants, more tomato-y tasting. they have naan bread with different flavoring. we got the garlic and basil which was pretty good. got this dessert, tasted quite unique. i forgot what the name was, but it has a watermelon on top, and its made of ricotta cheese. cant really describe how good it tastes but it is something worth trying.
Zu
I don't know if there were just having a bad day but the service was awful. We have to wait 15 min for the waiter to take our order (the place was not even busy) the waitress and the cashier were in other business rather than serving the clients, we order water and the glasses were dirty. Then we have to wait one hour for our food to be served. Luckily the food was really good, but I'll never go back there.
C.ron
Really good food and the owner is very friendly! I am fairly new to real Indian food but the butter chicken was the best I've had so far! the tandoor was also very good and huge pieces of chicken! And then the garlic basil naan was perfect :) decor is nice too

Authentic and Healthy. I ordered delivery from Siddhartha's and was very pleased with the food! The flavors were vibrant and fresh and perfectly spiced. I had the saag channa and the prawns masala with the eggplant. All three dishes were excellent! It took a little bit of time for the food to arrive but I took that to mean that the place is very popular and that they were having a busy night. I will be ordering food from these guys again for sure!

Top Quality Indian Food. If you crave Indian food on the drive this is the place to go! Been going here ever since they renovated the restaurant and I always end up trying something new. The food is delcisous and you can tell the chef is highly trained in quality and presentation. It's a really nice place for any occasion. It's quiet enough for a date and it's cozy enough for a group of friends gathering. Nice thing is the owner, Siddhartha himself is always around either cooking or at the front and he's a vegeterian like me. I always end up trying his recommendations and they never dissapoint!

Good for lunch. Came in for lunch and was not disappointed. First off the food was very good and service was outstanding. The restaurant has a good feel great for lunch or dinner with friends. Will need to come back and see if they can keep this high standard up over time.

So good. Really friendly owner. Go see for yourself! Best Indian food I've had in a LONG time.

Great Food and Great Staff. I was walking with my lady friend along Commercial and we stumbled upon this place after seeing the wall art depicting Buddha. We looked at the menu and gave it a shot. Boy am I thankful we did!

The staff was very friendly and gave great suggestions. We had the vegetable pakora, butter chicken and lamb korma. All of these were delicious and I'd definitely order these again. The cilantro chutney was soo good I could probably lather that on everything.

All in all, Siddhartha's is a nice clean joint with a calm and comfortable atmosphere. Definitely recommend.
Andrew McCartney
One of my favorite places on Commercial. I work nearby, and a bunch of co-workers and I go at least once a week. It's delicious, and wonderfully priced considering the quality. I adore the naan bread, but I take it the rice is just as great. The lunch special is a great choice if you're not quite sure what to get, it comes as a platter with a selection of their favorites. I personally go for the lamb vindaloo, which is always spicy and tender. Being indian food it also has a wonderful selection of vegetarian and vegan options.

A must try.
MMM MMM Good.
Expectations Exceeded!. I try to go into new restaurants with an open mind and no expectations. It is sometimes difficult to do when there is a bit of a buzz going on the street about any one particular place, though. That is exactly what was happening to Siddharta's Indian Kitchen. All about on Commercial Drive, I have heard people talking about the good food, the new renovations and the pleasant atmosphere.

Because of all of this, I set out to give it a try with slightly raised expectations, despite myself. Thankfully, I was not disappointed at all! The art work on the walls are really beautiful and, in the background they have this modern funky music with an indian twist.

As far as the food goes, I ordered some veggie pakoras as a starter and butter chicken as the entree. This comes with a choice of rice or naan bread. I couldn't choose so I ordered both. The pakoras were great and came out quite quickly. They were served with two chutneys, one being a mint and cilantro chutney and one tamarind sauce. The mint and cilantro chutney was delicious and had a little spicy kick to it. The butter chicken was equally as good. It's probably in the top 5 best butter chickens I have ever tasted. It was creamy and buttery and the sauce wasn't too thin or oily. Delicious!

The only thing bad I have to say about the restaurant is that they don't have a liquor license. This was a big disappointment because it was a pretty hot day out and I would have liked to have a cold beer. That being said, the friendly waitress apologized and told me that the license was pending and that they would have it in a couple months. I'll definitely be keeping my eye out!
Beth L
Low average meal... Butter chicken was fine but could use more chicken pieces, eggplant dish was good (but needed more spice). Lamb vindaloo had good sauce, but the lamb itself was in the tougher side with quite a few globs of fat. The prices are excellent, but I probably won't be back - there are so many better places around. FYI: no liquor license.

OK, but that's about it. Tried 4 dishes for take out.
Alhoo ghobi, chana saag, lamb bhoona ,dhal (spelling?). Everything was acceptable, with the exception of the dhal, which tasted more mexican than indian. odd. the chana had no spinach in it, also odd. The food was a little bland, but not bad. I did like the lack of oily soup that is often covering indian food. I'd may be give this place one more go just to be sure,, but after that I wouldn't go back if there wasn't a marked improvement
Fortheluuuuuvoffood
Very Impressed :). I have been to this place with my friends a few times and intend to come back again for sure. I really love the food here, it's just so yummy.

What's more is compared to many other Indian restaurants the menu here is more affordable and frankly under-priced.

I really love what they've done with the new decor and ambiance, and with the great food to top it off, well, what more could a foodie really ask for?

:)

I highly recommend this place.

Enlightenment. My partner and I just had dinner at Siddhartha's Indian Kitchen. It is named after Buddha's name that was given to him. There is some beautiful buddhist-inspired artwork (not to mention the neat mural outside). The atmosphere inside is welcoming, friendly, and very comfortable. They really do their best to make you feel cared for. Our server was very friendly and attentive about refilling our chai, which was tasty and authentic. the chai is also served in little ceramic jar-type vessels, which was really creative and added to the experience. The owner spoke with each table personally and was helpful in suggesting specials, but he was not pushy at all. We had a very meaningful, personable conversation after dinner with him and found him to be a very kind soul. We had the butter chicken, lamb shank, and the ras malai. All were very good. Lamb was very tender, butter chicken sauce was flavourful yet not heavy, and the ras malai was good as well, with a touch of what tasted like rose water, but not overpoweringly so. We also had the paneer pakoras as an appetizer, and it was so good, served with 2 tasty sauces. Not heavy like at other Indian restaurants in Vancouver. Very nice decor as well, modern with an Indian twist, some cozy seating, and very clean. Overall, I am elated after this experience. I feel enlightened, joyful, and light as a feather. I recommend this to everyone. 5 stars, thank you Siddhartha!

Waste of MONEY. I have lived in the area for 10 plus years and just noticed this restaurant due to the renovation they just undertook; so I decided to give it a try. I ordered two main dishes for take out, and when I got home and severed up the dishes I was amazed that Chicken Vindaloo had 4 tiny chunks of chicken and two tiny chunks of potato in a tub of sauce. The Lamb Bhoona was the same, this was a complete was of money.
I called the owner and he told me this happens some times and I could have a free desert if I wanted!! No thanks but I won't be coming back I'll be going to the Tandoori Palace instead!!!

Don't waste your time or money.. We had a bad feeling about this place as soon as we walked in but unfortunately we had purchased the vaneats promo and felt that we should at least give the restaurant a fair chance. We were showed over to sit at a dirty table where we proceeded to sit without any menus or greeting for at least 5 minutes. Our food, which consisted of the set menu as well as a tandoori platter took a total of 25 minutes to arrive at our table. Everything on the tandoori platter was grossly overcooked, but the most appalling bit of it all was the fact that or "seared scallop" appetizer was so overdone that I couldn't even put my fork in it it was so rubbery. Both my boyfriend and I have have worked in a considerable number of restaurants and whilst we understand that there are cultural differences in preparation of proteins, that is really no excuse for making things inedible. To add insult to injury, the service was ridiculously slow and unprofessional. Never EVER.

After their renovation, the place looks completely different. I mean night and day different - for better that is. The over all food quality has improved, the new server is pretty good too... But the kitchen just takes forever to get the food ready. We waited close to 40 minutes. This for me is a deal changer unfortunately. We had their bhartha, butter chicken with onion pakoras and marinated chicken stater. We also order some chicken biryani and wrapped the evening with some ras malai. As i mentioned earlier the food was better but still way off. The biryani was dry and the rice was flavourless. Butter chicken was ok and the bharta was just loaded with unnecessary spices. What they got rigjt were the pakoras and Naan.

My first dining experience at Siddhartha's was on a Friday evening. Decor was new and modern, with comfy dining chairs (an too-often overlooked feature, in my mind). Funky Indian music played in the background - not too loud to interfere with conversation. Three of us ordered one appy, lamb curry, two veggie dishes and the garlic basil naan bread. Food was flavorful but mildly spiced. Portions left us satisfied. We paid $14 per person, plus tip. (We also had chai.) Lots of things to like about this place. I will be coming back.

Good food worth to wait... I came with two of my others girl friends this time, not too hungry so thought to order some small dishes to pass our time... We were noticed within 20 second when the restaurant was quite busy, the server brought us to the bar area to wait for table while we can check the menu, the guy behind the counter greeted us with water. Within 5 nubs we were seat in clean table. I can see the server is quite knowledgable with the menu, her discriprion make us hungry,so we decide to order full meal.lamb vindaloo, shahi paneer and of course the favorite butter chicken, they all are cooked to tender and bathing in juicy sauce... We love the every little bit... We packed all left sauce home to the next day lunch...I m not why there were some bad review but we had a very lovely night and this is not the first time.. We will surely come back again. Ps , we love the new table arrangement too.

-----15 Dec, 2012-----

Very nice atmosphere and servers... We are always welcomed by hot masala chai once we enter the door.the best indian dishes I ever had in Vancouver ate here... We ordered some chicken pakoras and aloo tiki, followed by chicken vidaloo and lamb Komar, pealau rice and galic naan, my girlfriend birthday today, the chef even took efford to make a special dessert for her, sorry I couldn't remember the name, it is kind of egg base dessert... All we remember is yummy... We spent $41.41 in total but it is really worth for the whole experience.keep it up and hope we can start enjoying wine here soon...

-----30 Jul, 2012-----

Just back from my holiday, can't wait to visit my favorite restaurant in commercial dr. We were 4 together, the decor still charming and peaceful, with extra flower there. Once we walked in, the cheerful waitress in Indian dress welcomed us with my name, after seating us beside the fans, she quickly brought ice chai, mango lassi, coconut lassi and masala chai for us.i can tell the owner did some work in menu, except adding brown rice, potatoes & beans salad a d soup jn menu, there is also cold water melon for u as starter.very soon we were served with our favorite dishes, butter chicken, lamb vidaloo, veg korma and shihi prawn with paneer & galic basil naan, Pealau rice and raita.whole dinner was checked by lovely waitress twice with continues topping water for us.on average we spent 15.75$ plus 2$ dollars.we loved so much... Will come back soon to try some new dishes.

-----21 Apr, 2012-----

Believe me,I can have this naan along, crisy and soft, warm and nice seasoned. In fact,I always end up finish naan before I finish meal, order one portion extra if you are like me - bread eater...

-----21 Apr, 2012-----

This is always my favorite dish, char grilled and very nice seasoned, spicy and warm, feel likel it melts in mouth in a second.

-----04 Apr, 2012-----

I don't understand someone actually wrote such bad review on this restaurant. I had dinner there with my friend since she was just back from long trip after two months,we both are HUGE fan of their tasty,so we dicided to drop there. It wasn't busy at all at 8:45pm, only two other tables there occupied by two couples in other corner. We ordered chili paneer, Daal and egg plant, since we are a very regular customers so the owner offered us with new naan bread which was baked with cheese, galic and tomato, the freshness and unique tasty beats all other naan u had before, they haven't name it yet and hope it will be on their menu soon,we also had a nice chat with the owner regarding the bad review I saw few days ago,he doesn't seem care too much,he believes your experience tells truth,my food were way more than tasty, servers were both very friendly, they came by twice to check with us about food,we had to pack the rest since the portion were quite big for us and too tasty to throw,it can be easily reheat for my tomorrow lunch and taste even better...it will never go wrong if u come here once,It is my first choice when it comes to give a treat to myself and family friends...

The food and service are so terrible at this restaurant I have to believe the positive reviews on this website are fakes. No "picky" eater of Indian food would eat here twice. The potions are small, the device is extremely slow (with no sense of how to Serve a paying custer). We had butter chicken. It taste like its made with vegi oil, flour and yogurt rather than butter and cream. The chicken itself was tough and over cooked. The naan that came with it was good. We also had the tandooring platter which had 2 previously frozen, undercooked shrimp, 1 tiny cube of chicken tika and a very sad piece of terribly over cooked tandoori chicken. All terrible. There are a couple of excellent tandoori restaurants on the drive. Don't wste your time on this one.

Amazing Experience. I went to this restaurant with a couple buddies of mine and really enjoyed the whole experience. The place is very nicely decorated and gives off a warm feeling. Sidd recommended several dishes such as the Butter Chicken and the Masala which were very delicious and full of flavor. We also wanted to try a spicy dish so Sidd suggested the Chilli Chicken. I recommend this dish to people who can handle very spicy food because this is the hottest dish I have ever tried in my life. I would definitely recommend anyone craving Indian food to check this place out. Thanks Sidd!

New name: Siddhartha's Indian Kitchen!. The new management has upgraded the decor and atmosphere and still presents delicious food at reasonable prices.
The new decor is really nice, creating a relaxing, tranquil ambiance. The food is very tasty and really good value. Lots of choices for both vegetarians and meat eaters.
Well worth checking out and a great addition to the neighbourhood.

New face with much better taste. This place has been completed changed since last time I came. I was used to order take out only as I am so much in love with their baigan bharat and navrattan, I order them every Fri. I was told it will be completely new face and it was closed for more than a week, actually closed for 8 days, I was counting。couldn't wait...it was really nice experience tonight.naan and baigan bharat and navrattan komar were taste even better whild we were sitting there,we love those paintings and music, especially the lovely waitress.we were served with gulab jamun as desert, it was fresh and warm and served with rose water and mango pulp,I am not sweet person but I love love love it... I definitely will recommend this restaurant to those people are dating as the price was so reasonable... Will come back soon.

Good experience! Definitely come back again!. We went to this restaurant (new name: Siddhartha's) tonight to try out their food. (Online review is good.) Both my husband and I really enjoyed a fine dinner there! I strongly recommend "Lamb Curry" and "Baigan Bharat" (roast eggplant), while my husband basically loves all the dishes! :) i.e. "Butter Chicken" "Navrattan Komar". The price range is around $10/person/dish. (We ordered too much) Plus the new owner really did a nice renovation job inside. The waitress is very friendly too!

Yummy!. Food was yummy, staff were very friendly only got take out but i am sure the ambience will grow. Offered a seat and water whilst i waited, which is a small but significant thing.

There is no decor to speak of but for take out, we really like it. I don't like too much spice and this is perfect. The lamb kurma is great and the butter chicken is creamy good. The prices are pretty good too.

We got take out from this place. They wanted a minimum order of $25 in order to do so. Poor service! They said the wait would be 10 mins. We went outside and came back in 15 mins later and it was still not ready! In fact the person who ordered after us got their's first. Besides that, the rice was microwaved in front of us. The dishes lacked spices and the portions were minuscule and you can count your pieces of meat on one hand. Not going back there for sure. So watered down.

Late Night Disappointment. I used to come to come here to Corner Tandoori quite often, the most being maybe 2-3 times per week. It was a great deal, the owner was super friendly, and it was in an ultra convenient location.

The food wasn't anything extraordinary and one always had to ask for everything 'extra spicy' before any evidence of flavour was apparent. But honestly at $4.99 for Mutter Paneer or a couple of dollars more for Butter Chicken, this is probably one of the cheaper places to eat on Commercial Drive.

Now onto the night of. We arrived at about 10:15pm, and the place was empty. A lone employee was mopping up the floors. We stood hesitantly at the entrance way and asked if they were in fact open (the hanging sign on the door said they were closed) but the door was open. We were told that they were open until 11pm. As we didn't want to impede (as I know a few restaurants only accept take-out close to closing time), we were told to come in and that it would be fine.

We were served water right away which was nice, and my partner ordered the Lamb Vindaloo and I the Butter Prawn (think butter chicken but with prawn!). A few minutes later the waitress reappeared apologizing that they no longer had any prawns left in the kitchen. I ended up ordering the Mutter Paneer with 1 beef samosa (I definitely emphasized on 1 instead of 2 the order came with, which I 've done before). The food took about 10-15 minutes to arrive which wasn't too long at all. But when my dish arrived it was lukewarm but the bowl was piping hot which led me to believe that it was microwaved. I tried to eat a bit but the middle was even colder than the first few bites. I brought it back to the waitress and she didn't believe me at first because she felt the bowl and it was still quite hot. But after asking her again, she said she would get it reheated. In the meantime the samosas arrived. Gone were the crispy, flaky, delicious traditional samosas. Two dry beef samosas arrived with an egg roll type wrapper and a watery chutney sauce. At this point I'm thinking, did this business change hands? I'm pretty sure this is a very different recipe from what they had before. Anyway I tried a bit and did not get any meat until the 3rd or 4th bite because the samosa was wrapped so tightly only a thin layer of filling could fit. And yet there were several layers of wrapper, I could see about 4 layers clearly. Just then, my reheated mutter paneer arrived, reheated via microwave but at least it was hot! I finally got down to some eating, finding the mutter paneer fairly mild though I asked for it EXTRA EXTRA SPICY. But it was edible and the goat cheese was nice and soft. I could taste some spices, but they were quite toned down as if to cater to either an older or more gentrified crowd. At about 5 minutes to close, the waitress reappeared to let me know that the restaurant was closing. The next words out of her mouth shocked me. "Could you... maybe eat a little faster? Because we are closing." At that point, I told her that I'd just like everything wrapped up to go. To which she replied that "It's ok, you can still take your time eating" as she could tell I wasn't too pleased with her announcement. She proceeding to take away my bowl of Mutter Paneer but then asked if I wanted the samosas to go as well (there were 2 samosas still on the plate).

I was about to ask if there was in fact a new owner, but after being asked to hurry up and eat faster, I figured it was best to pay and leave. I don't think I'll come back again, despite the positive changes to the dining room (no more hanging plants, no more plastic counters!). I guess I'll just have to check out Fraser street for great, well-priced East Indian food.

Service 4/10, food 3/10, atmosphere 1/10. I can't find much good in this restaurant which is unfortunate as I usually find that the worse they look the better the food. Ordered the lunch special at 12:30, only two other people in the place and it took over 10 minutes to get the food. Most of it was luke warm. Butter chicken had two little pieces of chicken and the "vegetable" was a bite of lettuce hidden under the naan. Otherwise there was little flavor and the tandoori chicken was so dry. Poor selection of drinks. With a town of so many restaurants serving great indian I would avoid this one.

Chicken Korma!. 8.99 for Chicken Korma with naan - I think it may be the best deal in Vancouver. I ordered medium, and didn't pick up on any spicyness, so I recommend going with the Spicy.
Service was fast and friendly.

Great Little Find. Sometimes the restauants with the least amount of atmosphere are the best. Very true here. Amazing butter chicken and masala. Two can eat for $20.

Shhhhuuutttt !!!!. I shouldn't say it too loud, as I love the fact that I don't need to wait for ages when I crave Inidan food; but this place is the best indian food I've found in town so far ! And I am on the picky side...
They make everything fresh daily, including their naan... awesome! And they have super friendly staff.
The only problem that I have with the place is the dining room.... it's really not that nice.
So it's perfect for take-out. not so great for having diner with friends.
But in the end, take-out indian in front of a movie... can't beat that !! :-)

We sampled Cardamom and cinnamon flavoured Black Lentils with Cumin Rice & a piece of BBQued Tandoori Chicken. 4/5 stars The naan was absolutely divine; soft, fragrant and fluffy.
J At Vanbrosia.com
...chicken was dry but was OK if you drowned it in the sauces that the dish comes with; the shahi sauce tasted like a watered-down version of the butter chicken curry
J At Vanbrosia.com
... all the naans were very good, but their individual flavorings disappeared under the curries...

Siddhartha’s is a real gem on the Drive, and we’re glad we got to experience some of what they have to offer with this great package. The ambiance is warm and inviting, and the service was friendly and personable.

or the main course we got rice with butter chicken and baigan bharta, a smoked eggplant dish. The butter chicken was extremely good, the chicken was nice and tender, and the sauce was pretty much perfect. I liked that it did not have a lot of oil floating on it, like mine does when I cook it at home. The eggplant dish was also very good, the eggplant was super soft and all the spices were great. This dish was also not oily.

I haven’t purchased a package from VANEATS.ca since my meal at Ebisu a year ago. I remember that meal as being fulfilling, but admittedly lacklustre. Still, I purchased the package available for Siddhartha’s Indian Kitchen, a small, relatively new Indian restaurant on the Drive. I love Indian food and hadn’t had it in a while, and the reviews of the package seemed quite positive overall. So on a rainy Monday, SB and I headed down the Drive to redeem our meal for two. The restaurant itself was clean, but a bit empty during our visit. I suppose that’s to be expected for a small restaurant on a Monday night, though. We took our seats by the window and informed the server of our VanEats package , and added on another curry for good measure. The package itself cost $18. The first dish of our meal to arrive was the Aloo Tiki, two crispy potato cakes served with a blend of Delhi, tamarind, and mango sauces topped with pomegranate and cilantro. The first dish of any meal is important in set

Was going to visit a restaurant up the street, but it was closed due to renovation. So I noticed this very nice and new interior decor Indian restaurant. Thought I would give it a try. It was one stuffy restaurant.. like very stuffy. It wasn’t am extremely hot day, but was quite warm. I went in and the first thing I noticed is that there is no ventilation in the building. That’s fine, I can live with that. I saw the table next to us having a mango lassi. Then I thought, oh that would be nice since it’s so warm in here. And the drink was also warm… is it suppose to be warm? I don’t know it feels so weird warm. Mango lassi is suppose to be a mango yogurt smoothie – I think I like my smoothies cold. Because the whole place was so warm, we didn’t order much. To share between two people we ordered butter chicken and naan (they are to be order separately, curry is not served with naan or rice).

I was also served some hot chai. The aromatic tea was creamy and full of spices. They served it with a side of sugar, but I found that the drink already had a pleasant sweetness to it.

Overall, Brian and I enjoyed our dinner – we were so stuffed at the end, we had to waddle back home! It’s great to find a nice Indian restaurant that’s quite central. We will definitely be back for more!

As part of Dine Out Vancouver 2014, this year Tourism Vancouver partnered with Vancouver Foodster to host East Side Brunch Crawl this past Sunday along Commercial Drive. Mary and I went as a good way to explore and sample a few restaurants we hadn’t been to yet for brunch along the Drive. One of the restaurants we anticipated on trying was Yolks Restaurant , a new popular brunch spot on Hastings and Clark, just a quick 5 minute drive from the Drive and part of this event. Upon arrival at LaLa’s , a cute boutique shop selling lots of knickknacks and cooking accessories, we waited half an hour in a long lineup to get inside for registration, where we were provided with a passport and map of our crawl destinations and menu items. LaLa’s served small cups of mimosas to the guests as they waited to register. We first decided to go to Yolks, knowing it was the furthest location and one we really wanted to try due to its recent popularity. However upon arriving at around 10:10am, they were no

Siddhartha's Indian Kitchen is a new restaurant that opened up on commercial drive and specializes in healthy, sustainable, and delicious Indian food. Chef Siddharth Choudhary took over the former restaurant - Corner Tandoori in 2011 and reopened in early 2012. They commit to traditional gluten-free vegetarian preparations, vegan options and certified sustainable ingredients. When you taste their food, you will definitely be able to taste the difference! I came down here with LinLin and LoiLoi to check out Siddhartha's Indian Kitchen. The interior is quite nice and the paintings are just breath-taking. I absolutely adore the amazing all the images on the interior and exterior. I came here at 6pm and the place slowly filled up as the night went on. I even bumped into 604Foodtography ! Housemade Chai Tea was ordered by LoiLoi. It reminded us of an Indian version of HK-Style Milk Tea. Of course it's not the same, but same concept of mixing the sugar and milk into the tea. It was quite aro

[T]he bare bones dining area has the ambiance of a high school cafeteria but a late night search for takeout and some good reviews online lead me to make an order. Despite its hole-in-the-wall appearance, Corner Tandoori makes some of the best In

Late June, I attended my first Tasting Plates Vancouver event, hosted by Richard, better known as Vanfoodster. Focused around a walkable distance, attendees get to visit a variety of restaurants, sampling various cuisines. It's a great way to socialize and meet new people, and to discover those hidden treasures located in every neighbourhood. The one I attended was "East Van", and centralized around Commercial Drive.

First Stop of Dishcrawl Vancouver: Silk Road Tour - Siddharthas You can't miss this place...with a giant gorgeous mural on one side, it beckons you to come inside and visit. On the right is our ambassador, Yana, and front and centre is Chef Siddartha, telling us about the origins of the restaurant, as well as what deliciousness awaited us! Our appetizer consisted of a few pieces of Naan , warm and fresh from the kitchen. On the side of that is the Baingan Bharta , a roasted eggplant dish with all the traditional spices, such as garlic, ginger, chilies, coriander, cumin and garam masala. This dish was light, but very flavourful. Then we moved onto the Aloo Tikki , a potato croquette. The potatoes are boiled, mashed and then mixed with some simple spices. Once combined, the patty is then pan fried to a nice golden crispy outside and a tender and moist inside. Another vegetable we received as part of the appetizer was the Saag , a spinach dish that usually is served with cubes of fried

Although Indian food is not normally recognized for being all that healthy, Chef Sid and his kitchen staff are committed to showing diners that Indian food can look and taste great without being bad for you. By sourcing local ingredients, Ocean Wise friendly seafood and healthy oils etc. their efforts are certainly noticeable when sampling various dishes.

The first stop on our Dishcrawl started with a taste of India in a modern setting at Siddhartha’s Indian Kitchen. The restaurant’s owner Siddharth welcomed us with an appetizer platter consisting of four individual items: smoked eggplant mousse, spinach mousse, aloo tikki potato, butter chicken dipping sauce, and homemade naan bread to soak up all the tasty flavors.

From the outside Siddhartha’s Indian Kitchen looks like a little hole in the wall, much like most of the family owned and run ethnic eateries on Commercial Drive. Previously it was Corner Tandoori restaurant, but 6 months ago it was sold and under new ownership the restaurant relaunched as Siddhartha’s Indian Kitchen. I never tried Corner Tandoori so I’m not sure how it compares, but judging by the lunch time crowd it seems like Siddhartha’s has love from the neighbourhood locals.

Namaste, everyone. Kevin and Billy are like a freight train, running through every kitchen in this city possible with their awesome VANEATS.ca deals. This time, it's off to Commercial Drive for some Indian cuisine at Siddhartha's. Upon my arrival, I had a bit of deja vu at first, from the main entrance and the light minimalistic decor inside, as it reminded me of Palki Indian Restaraunt, coincidentally also on Commercial Drive! Sitting in the restaurant was also Diana from Foodology.ca , hollla. Onto the food, watch this video. Now with voiceovers by Kevin and Billy, I think it really speaks to their business and their passion when they put their personality directly into the products they're selling.
