Excellent if you’re not looking for a fancy place, yet your focus is awesome food at a reasonable price. The Butter Beef and the Chicken Wings were outstanding choices and everything tasted great. Service was ok and restaurant could have been cleaner, that’s the only reason I gave it 4 stars.
Holy. Mother. Of God. This place is a must if you're in Vancouver and are adventurous and like strong flavours. Southeast Asian food at it's best. Even Anthony Bourdain thinks so. Every time I'm here, I have to get the deep-fried frog legs and the marinated butter beef. The hot and sour soup is also a go to. There's always a wait so try to get a reservation beforehand. I've known people who have reservations who have still had to wait - yes this place is just that good. PLEASE GO!!
It's a bit overhyped. Waited about 40min-1hr for seating. Chicken wings were delicious and the best part of this place. Tried Marinated butter beef. Love the sauce but I don't think it's worth the money...it's similar to beef sashimi in a way. Beef Luc Lac is very tasty but I think it's overpriced for what it's worth. I'd go back for the chicken wings.
I really enjoy Phnom Penh, but the long waits deter me from coming more often.
At 4pm, we took one of the last tables and I remember people were starting to line up around 5pm already. Beef luc lac: One of the classic dishes at Phnom Penh! The beef was very saucy, and delicious. It was slightly sweet, garlicky, and oniony. The beef luc lac was also accompanied with a fried egg, rice, and some fresh greens. With everything combined, you are sure to be full and satisfied.
Amazing quality of hospitality and highly recommend the scrumptious beef balls noodle soup and the hot and sour soup with fish was comforting and delicious! Loved it!
Go for the chicken wings, butter beef and beef luc lac...the perfect trio! Line ups are usually quite long and they don't take reservations for parties under 8 people. Well worth the wait!
We’ve been to this restaurant for twice so far, both on weekend. That means we had been waiting for two hours last time for Saturday dinner. The kids were moaning and the husband was complaining....but the food here are always great. We love the raw beef dish and the chicken wings.
This is definitely a hot spot in Vancouver. We went around 630pm and got in around an hour and a half later. Butter beef was definitely popular and definitely was worth it. As was their Phnom Penh wings. Servers were very prompt. Food didn't take long either. Their grass jelly ice drink was good as well. I don't think any servers really spoke Cambodian and to call themselves "Phnom Penh" was ironic but the other main dishes were more Vietnamese if anything. Coming from someone who has a Cambodian mother I can say that only a few dishes were Cambodian inspired. I'd come again if the wait wasn't that long... definitely would recommend trying it- Don't forget reservations!
Yeah. The wings are so good. Stopped by in the afternoon to beat the crowds and for a quick snack. Pass on the spring rolls....stick to the wings.
I personally think that this is one of the best restaurants in Vancouver. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu. It's family owned, it's consistent, it's really good food and the portions are so so nice. I would definitely recommend coming here with family as you can order more things, rather than just a date.
Exquisite! Everything I’ve had here so far has been excellent and I am eager to eventually try everything on the menu. If you love Asian food and cilantro you won’t be disappointed here.
Try to go in a big group, and 100% share so you can try as many things as possible.
When I went at 1pm on a Monday, there was a 30 min wait and when I went again, wanting more, on the following Thursday at 11:20 there was no wait.
A completely satisfying meal and the long queue outside the restaurant is proof of how famous and popular they are.
The place is bustling with activity. The food is excellent. The Fried rice is really tasty and full of flavors. Loved the Hot Vietnamese coffee. The beef items were well prepared. The squid was also very good.
Went on a Wednesday at 5 PM - had a 15 min wait MAX; the line was definitely longer as it approached dinner time.
Never had a more efficient service experience in my life. Food was served within 7 minutes of ordering.
Deep-fried chicken wings (#78) were amazing and must-tries. Marinated butter beef (#71) not my personal favourite because of the strength of the sauce, but would recommend trying. Beef luc lac was very good, and is a safe option.
So yummy! We (3 people) ordered large chicken wings, rice noodle soup, butter beef, and BBQ lemongrass chicken on rice. Portions weren’t too big so 4 dishes were adequate for the 3 of us. The chicken wings are PHENOMENAL - sweet & crispy!! The restaurant seems to use a lot of cilantro on most of their dishes, which I love!
We went on Monday around 7PM and there was a 15 minute wait. Would return just for the chicken wings!
Always amazing food at Phnom Penh! The chicken wings are to die for, it's a MUST when you come here to eat. I usually get a large order of wings for each person. That's how good these are.
The butter beef is another must order here. It's so good on its own.
Beef Luc Lac is another must try dish here. You can order it with white rice. This time I tried it with fried rice and it's seriously delicious. Fried rice, with fried egg on top. You have to have to try it.
I think everyone knows by now that this place is a must try, whether you're a foodie or not. I've been coming here for years and they never disappoint!
Food is always amazing, service is always great, and this time we didn't even have to line up to get a table, which is a huge bonus!!
I really liked the place! Visited on Sunday at lunchtime. The wait was shorter than expected. They have a good system with callback so that you can walk around in Chinatown instead of crowding in the waiting area. The food was excellent! The fried chicken wings and Butter beef (don't let the name fool you - it's actually thin raw beef in marinade) were recommended as their specialty and they were great! And to top that the service was genuinely friendly and helpful. Thank you!
Absolutely delicious food. Our absolute favorite were the Chicken Wings (we liked it without the lemon pepper sauce... Good thing they put that on the side), the Beef Luc Lac and of course their famous Butter Beef!! Will definately be back.
To say Phnom Penh is a staple in the Vancouver restaurant scene is an understatement. Always popular and always pleasing for a reason... The food is so comforting.
From the famous chicken wings to the melt-in-your-mouth butter beef to the simplicity of fried rice with Chinese sausage... You can't go wrong.
We came by in early December and dine-in was a little less busy than in the past (covid related no doubt) but picked up as we were finishing.
Some other recommendations to try here is the Beef Luc Lac (you can either get a small order served with rice and a fried egg or get a large serving by itself and pair it with a full dish of fried rice). The squid here is similar to the addictive chicken wings and is often overlooked but worth the try.
If it wasn't so darn cold out, we would have picked up one of their tasty moo shakes.
