It was all fantastic, the place was packed, service was great! The food was outstanding and very tasty, we had various menu items and the 60 ounce streak between 6 of us and it was done to perfection! The people next to us were having the family style dinner 55.00 each and the food kept coming, the place is setting the trend can't wait to go back.
Incredible restaurant! One of the best in Vancouver. Consistently great family style Italian food. And the customer service is unmatched. Pastas are always so fresh tasting and the meat cooked on the wood fire oven is incredible
Truly a West Coast experience. Word of advice is to book enough in advance. Great décor and staff and food. We highly recommend Savio Volpe.
Best best best best best experience! Did I love it???yes!
One of the best dining experiences I have had, food is unreal, ambience is amazing. May just be my fave restaurant going forward, highly recommend.
Had an exceptional dinner, and wonderful customer service! We did not have a reservation but the hostess suggested we eat at the bar. We waited <10 minutes and my friends and I sat at the bar. Our server Marco, and Peter behind the bar were nothing but fantastic! Will definitely come back :)
Loved the food, the people and the atmosphere. The servers were enthusiastic and helpful and allowed us to design our dinner the way we wanted to by giving us very good recommendations. No pressure to order more than we could eat. Each dish was beautifully presented, and so very delicious with all fresh ingredients. Passionately good food.
Amazing dinner in every way, from our charming server and the casual, inviting decor to every single bite of scrumptiousness that went into our mouths. A thoroughly enjoyable culinary experience!
Very accommodating for my best friend's bachelorette dinner even when we showed up late (which I apologize). We had enough time to enjoy our meals and play our mini games around the table. Service and food was awesome, thanks a bunch Alex!
Kale salad is a favourite! The pasta with prawns delicious also!! The pork chop was ginormous, it looked good as well... we just ordered 4 dishes, however the first time we were there we went with a group and they just serve you food, wow, it was fabulous!!
Wow...! That's all in can say...attended a b-day party with a total of ten people, so we were "familia style", with the chef deciding on a total of 7 courses for the group. We had prosciutto with Parmesan, sardines on a bed of citrus slices, a kale salad with Pecorino and pine nuts, two pastas (including a squid ink spaghetti with clams), unbelievably moist chicken, an outstanding grilled beef, and two desserts. The service was excellent, the ambiance was very relaxed...all in all, just a wonderful evening. Bravissimo!
Amazing food & presentation! Decent portion size for it's price. The suckling pig was soooo juicy and tender.
All aspects on point - terrific hostess, excellent service, memorable food, unique space....5/5!
We had dinner there last night for the first time. The food and atmosphere are fabulous and the service was the best I've ever had anywhere. I will definitely be going back.
Never let it stop, like a 2nd stomach would be thee most beneficial thing to me. Heck why stop there, an infinite abyss of space would be perfect. Best meal I have had in a long time, thanks for the great night!
One of my most favourite restaurants in the city. They never disappoint. The food has so much flavour, the service is impeccable and every friend I have sent their way has nothing but amazing things to say about their experience. Also the decor and ambience is like none other in the city. Go, you won't regret it. 👊🏻
The award-winning eatery impressed again, even my mother, who is a tough critic and usually prefers Chinese over other cuisines. The service was top notched as usual. Although the lighting is not the most camera-friendly here, the dining room is still one of the most beautiful in the city. So do come here for a casual, romantic date by the counter. The house-made pasta scores the highest among the dishes for me like my previous experience. However, mom loved the grass-fed veal chop! If you are from a city where Michelin quality restaurants are super pricey, you will find dinner at Savio Volpe a steal.
Absolutely incredible restaurant! This is by far the very best food and service we’ve ever experienced! My husband and I celebrated our 1st wedding anniversary here and were absolutely blown away. Although it’s a bit on the pricey side, it was so worth the splurge! We did the fixed priced menu and honestly, each course was better than the last. Highly recommend this place!
One of, if not, our favourite restaurant to eat at! They use seasonal ingredients so the menu is always changing. The pasta is always so fresh and delicious, make sure to order one if not two pasta dishes when you go! They have a set menu option but we recommend picking and choosing several dishes instead. It will be tough to walk in at peak dinner times so reservation is probably better. Service is great and for the quality of food we would gladly pay again.
When people I just meet find out that I blog about food, 10/10 times the first question is, "What's your favourite restaurant?" For about a year now, my answer has always been Miku but it all changed after tonight's experience at Osteria Savio Volpe. Savio Volpe to me was like the holy grail of restaurants, I've heard so much about it, read stories, even a friend of mine works there. But for some reason, I never made an effort to go.
Amazing food. Their take on family style, classic dishes with a modern twist is fantastic.
Nothing beats family style service with simple dishes that are perfectly executed.
Ambience and atmosphere and can be a bit different that what you’d expect from one of YVR’s top new restaurants.
Get the veal chop if it’s available when you’re dining here.
We brought a bottle of Château Montelena Cabernet Sauvignon 2004. Fabulous wine that made the evening 1cchini fritti and the Faro salad. Both outstanding flavour and texture. We then split 2 primi. The ricotta Gnocchi and the Rigatoni with various roasted meats. For our secondi I had Sockeye Salmon and the rest of the table had the veal chop. We finished the fabulous feast with blueberry coulis stuffed donuts in a creme glaze. Lovely. Service was good, helpful, attentive and friendly.
Was wowed. We sat at the bar. Felt so welcomed in this beautiful restaurant. Service was fantastic. Pastas-memorable. We’ll definitely be back.
I’ve dined here three times now since the restaurant opened and I have never been disappointed!
I celebrated my birthday with my wonderful friends! We had the family style dinner! So worth it! We had so many dishes brought to us and all of them were delicious! We honestly didn’t expect that much food. The family dinner was 5 course meal but seemed like it was 10 course! we had 2-3 dishes of salads, pastas, meats and deserts!
The pasta dishes were our favorite! The meat dishes equally good. Steak like butter! The kale salad...I could have ate the entire dish on my own. Deserts were divine. I would have drank more wine but I needed to function for work the next day! Looking forward to dining here again for next celebration
Last year, I took a cooking class (for roman style pizza) from a chef named Peter Cuiffa (aka Pasta Boy Peter) who mentioned that he worked at Osteria Savio Volpe. Since then, the restaurant was on my to-do list. So on a spring weekend, we went. Savio Volpe (I think this roughly translates to “Wise Fox”) is a rustic Italian restaurant on Kingsway, just off Fraser street. They focus on simple dishes, and seasonal ingredients including fresh house made pasta
We were blown away. We decided to try the Chef's Menu. Every course was simple and deliscious. Fresh local product. The food was really perfect. The wine recommendation as well. The staff is very authentic (sincere) and busy. Really fun atmosphere. All ages and groups of people. It reminded me of some fun times in osterias in Tuscany.
Osteria Savio Volpe is an amazing restaurant. It is consistently busy and if you wish to attend, a reservation is definitely recommended. The food is excellent (I recommend the ''let us cook for you'' - which is a 3 or 4 course meal) and the service pushes it over. The server who helped us, Charlie, is knowledgeable about the restaurant and menu and will provide you with excellent suggestions. Excellent dinner and experience.
Absolutely wonderful dining experience! We had the chef's choice and the selections were superb. The serving staff are highly skilled in their craft with the perfect amount of conversation. A truly wonderful evening.
The food here is amazing. Very modern menu. Flavours abound. Excellent service. Ask your server for suggestions as they will til you on what to order that day. Will be back.

Savio Volpe is truly a dining experience to be genuinely savoured. Recently voted as ‘Best New Restaurant’ by Vancouver Magazine, the team behind Savio Volpe offers rustic Italian fare with focus on fresh local ingredients featuring house-made pastas. The menu will rotate according to what’s seasonal, but they do keep a few of their most popular staples.
All in all, Osteria Savio Volpe was a great experience and I definitely want to come back. The prices are on the steep side though so you if you go, you're most likely going to spend a minimum of $40 for a satisfying meal. To get a reservation within the week, make sure you ask for super early or late times like 5pm or 9pm.
New Year’s Eve dinner to remember. We booked weeks ago to make sure we got a table and we are glad we did. First the restaurant itself. It’s in a great neighborhood location, outside of the usual dining hubs, and just a few doors away from Les Faux Bourgeois (another favorite of ours). It’s larger than I expected, which I prefer, and not as noisy as I had read about online. I wasn’t crazy about the light colored wood which reminded me of Ikea and the booths could be a bit more comfortable. Service was good. Our waiter was attentive, but not too attentive, and the meal moved along well without being rushed. The food. It really was pretty amazing. It’s been awhile since I’ve been so excited about a menu, which of course led us to ordering too much food. As a note, I didn’t take pictures or make notes so I’m going off of memory in terms of the menu items as they are always changing. We started with a breaded and pan fried rabbit leg, which was OK but would pass on it if I had to do it over. Next came the Bagna Cauda, which is a “hot anchovy and garlic bath”…kind of a thick fondue. It was amazing! It took a bite or too to acclimatize to the unusual taste but after that I was practically licking the bowl. We also ordered the Kale salad, which was also extremely good and perfect after the rich flavors of the Cauda. Next came the meatballs in neck bone gravy…also amazing and could have eaten more. We then moved to two pasta dishes, which aren’t on their online menu so I’m doing my best to remember the details. One of them was an Agnaloti stuffed with roasted chicken, rabbit and another meat, served with a sauce derived from the dripping of the roasted meats…OMG amazing. If I wasn’t with friends I would have very quickly eaten the whole plate myself. It was so good I can’t really remember the other pasta, but it was also very good. We also ordered the Veal Chop, which was very good, but I could have passed on it as I was already very satiated and it was pretty pricey. In addition, we ordered a side of butter beans (good) and an endive salad (Ok), as well as the Tiramisu Sundae (amazing apparently) and the Chocolate Tort with olive oil (OK). If not for the veal, the meal would have been amazingly well priced given the caliber of the food. Definitely going back!
the food was incredible. The service was great - friendly. We highly recommend this place. Need reservations far in advance as always booked up. We would definitely go back there.
We had a table for 6 and the kitchen agreed to give us a family style dinner price fixed at $55 per person. It was more than enough food for everyone. (There's an option of $45 per person that in hindsight we should have taken.) We let the kitchen pick all the plates and surprise us.
1) prosciutto with apple and grana cheese
2) bagna cauda; hot anchovy and garlic bath - so much butter it is delicious. Barely taste the anchovy.
3) garlic bread - soaked in butter and even better when you dip in bagna cauda
4) crispy pig's head and potato, chicory, gorgonzola and pepperoncino
5) kale salad
6) lentils
7) Brussels sprouts
8) pasta - sorry I was too distracted with dipping the garlic bread in the bagna to focus
9) meatballs - they were large meatballs but unfortunately some of them were dry in the middle
10) pork with crackling skin with an egg on top - it was almost too pretty to eat.
11) tenderloin on top of mash potatos
12) veal
13) chocolate torte
Atmosphere and service was fantastic.
And sparkling water is complimentary :)
This restaurant is absolutely incredible. Unbelievable food, service and atmosphere. Very reasonably priced. Best meal I've had in year! Decor is so unique.
Great place to share family style dishes. Would go in a group so that more dishes could be ordered. Pasta special (stuffed meat bow ties) was the highlight of our meal.
We came here for dinner few times now and it's quite a busy restaurant. The decor is modern and customer service is excellent here. So far we had tried the ox tongue tonnato which is slice tongue with fish mayonnaise sauce and bread. For entrees, we ordered Pappardelle with morels, green garlic and Grana which is pappardelle pasta dish with mushroom and sage butter sauce and aged New York steak with balsamic sauce and smashed potatoes with prosciutto as side dish. We also order suckling pork with egg on top, spaghetti, gnocchi and roasted chicken. For desserts, we had tiramisu sundae and chocolate tart with sea salt and pine nuts with olive oil drizzle. Both pasta are excellent, very fresh and especially the pasta in sage butter. One of the best pasta dish I've ever tasted. The gnocchi is excellent and by far the best gnocchi I had. The ox tongue tonnato is good also especially the mayonnaise sauce has fish blend in there. The steak is bit on chewy side and not as good as I've anticipated so it was just ok taste for us. I normally don't order chocolate tart but the combination of chocolate, sea salt, pine nuts and olive oil create a very unique flavour of sweet, salty and nutty which we find quite delicious. The smashed potatoes is good second time we went there. Their roasted chicken and tiramisu sundae are also excellent. The best ice cream we all had ever tasted anywhere. Highly recommended restaurant and it now becomes one of my favourite Italian restaurants.
One-liner: Premier Italian at a fair price and fantastic service
Highlight: Ox Tongue Tonnato
Recommended for: Italian share plate and latte art lovers
Would I go back? Yes.

I can't stress how amazing this restaurant is! I loved everything we ate. Absolutely delicious!
I love that their pasta is handmade daily! We also did not wait long at all for our entrees. And their Garlic Bread came so fresh out the oven that we had to wait for it to cool down a bit before we could eat it.
My favourite was the Tiramisu Sundae. With tiramisu and ice cream being two of my favourite desserts, I died and went to heaven! Ice cream from Beta5 Chocolates: Espresso, Zabaglione and Dark Chocolate Hazelnut, lady fingers soaked in espresso underneath, topped with hazelnuts. This dessert was AMAZING!
I don't rate any place 5.0 without going to it at least twice (to make sure its consistent). Its only my first time but I loved it too much... how could I not give it a perfect score?
This is a spectacular restaurant. The pasta is made fresh and is so soft and tasty. The kale salad is a great take on a Caesar salad. The staff is super friendly and very knowledgable of the food and wine pairings.
I love food more than the average person. I’ve known this since I was a kid. And it’s not often that I get to meet people that are just as passionate about food as I am – or at least it wasn’t. But that all changed when I joined the food blogging community. Suddenly I was thrown into a world where people will happily spend 30 minutes dissecting the ingredients of a crab cake with me until we’ve pinpointed the secret ingredient. It’s all I’ve ever wanted and more. So when I ran into Foodgressing and Picky Diner at a media event recently, and they suggested that we all get together along with Nosh and Nibble for dinner, I was in. A chance to eat delicious food, discuss delicious food, and not have to worry about the fact that I’m making people wait 5 minutes while I take pictures of delicious food? It’s like a fairy tale for my mouth!
Wonderful dinner out with my partner. Service was outstanding. The food was delicious. Probably wouldn't want to come with more than four as you'd have to order multiple plates of the same dish.
Only downside was having to make a reservation 3 weeks in advance to make sure we could get our table
Located in Fraserhood (Kingsway and Fraser), Savio Volpe has been a much talked about Italian restaurant since it opened late last year. Savio Volpe means "wise fox" in Italian and this eatery is all about getting together and sharing simple yet delicious food. This restaurant is so popular that I couldn't even get a 6 pm Monday night reservation via Open Table one week ahead of time. Fortunately, I was able to book the 5:45 pm time slot for our meetup. Furthermore, Savio Volpe is not that small of a restaurant as it can accommodate 90 seats. The fact that it is quite booked shows how foodies have fallen in love with the wise fox.
What an experience. Every dish we had was exploding with complex layers of flavours. Super fresh ingredients and unified super friendly but not over bearing service. The bean dish was unbelievable. Fresh peas, pine nuts, hint of citrus and basil topped with high quality olive oil. Actually was my favourite dish. The duck ragu maglianti was also to die for. The pasta on its own was so fresh and full of flavour. Lastly the squid was cooked to perfection. The bigger dandelion with the rich potatoe puree and Smokey BBQ squid was complex, yet so balanced. All this with wine for only $50 each. Was a great value. Only thing I didn't like about this place was it was quite noisy and found the service a bit to fast. But it's pretty incredible considering how small the kitchen is. I can't wait to come back...
I've been looking forward to try this place out. There's lots of hype out there about this place so my expectations were kinda high.
First off, the service was on point. Our server explained the menu well - it's shared plates - and she described the recommended progression. Our water glasses were never empty and plates were changed timely. Food came out in good time and hot food arrived hot.
We ordered a salad of peas, beans, and cat tail shoots. It was delicately seasoned...light and fresh. A great start.
Next up was the tripe alla parmigiana, a homey Roman dish. It was perfect! Better than the one we had in Rome. The tripe was tender and the sauce was just tangy enough to balance the rich meat. The crusty bread that came with was the perfect accompaniment.
Now for the not so great stuff. The gemelli rustico pasta dish was a bit starchy, however, the sauce was well seasoned and not too salty like a lot of places. We also ordered the spit roasted sucking pig. I expected a nice crispy skin, like porchetta, but it was just a nicely roasted pork loin. Again, the seasoning was spot on...just that I wanted crispy skin; they should've topped the roast with cracking instead of the fried egg.
Loved this restaurant! Servers were nice, food was delicious, ambience is great.
We got the ox tongue, and 2 of the features and it was nothing short of expectations! Will definitely come back!
Osteria Savio Volpe Vancouver opened after much anticipation to Fraserhood. This lively Italian taverna boasts freshly made pasta, classic rustic fare and traditional Italian dishes. You can forget about walk ins with wait of at least an hour and half. Booking a table one week in advance is your best bet.
It's all the little touches in presentation and service that make a meal. We went with a group of people, and we all left highly satisfied. The "Flintstone" sized 15 ounce steak was shared, along with all the side dishes on the menu. We will be back again very soon.
On my way to get some Big Al’s fried chicken from The Lion’s Den Cafe, I thought I’d check out Savio Volpe, seeing as it’s just down the block. I only had room for a couple dishes, but man, was I happy to finally check it out!. Savio Volpe is located on Kingsway near Fraser. The area is a growing food-worthy mecca with Sal Y Limon, Les Faux Bourgeois, The Black Lodge, Mega iLL Pizza (just kidding), Matchstick Coffee Roasters, Los Cuervos Taqueria & Cantina, Ba Le, and The Lion’s Den Cafe.
My boyfriend received a gift card to Savio Volpe from his sister for Christmas and we've been wanting to check it out. Before I get into my experience at the restaurant, let me explain to you how the card was wrapped. His sister walked into McDonalds and asked for an empty bag and a 6 McNugget container and of course the person who took that order looked at her as if she was crazy. The final product looked like this:

Savio Volpe is a casual comfortable restaurant fit for families, friends and a second date. Wood cladding, soft lights and contemporary with a hint of 70's. Needless to say, we've been looking forward to this for sometime. The team? Restaurateur Paul Grunberg (L'Abattoir), Mark Perrier and Craig Stanghetta (Homer St. Cafe, Revolver, Meat & Bread, Pidgin, etc.)
White anchovy, citrus, chili, mint 14: I love these savory white anchovies. It is simple yet beautiful. Drizzled in oil. The grapefruit acidity enhanced their intrinsic flavors. This dish has such juicy flavors while still remaining light!
Ox tongue tonnata 14: Ox tongue is used here instead of the veal typically found in Vitello tonnato (veal with tuna caper sauce). When you taste the mayo, you may scratch your head and wonder why it tastes like tuna. The creamy umami mayo is indeed made with canned tuna, egg yolks and anchovies. The sharpness of capers brightens the dish.
Garlic bread "all'Americano" 6: This nostalgic garlic bread is served in an aluminium pouch. Just like you would see at a supermarket. Savio Volpe's garlic bread is house made, fluffy and light. Melted Avalon Dairy butter is perfect!
Pasta of the Day 17: Spaghetti Vongole with mussels, clams, white wine, garlic and parsley. This is a very clean pasta dish that draws on the seafood flavors with a complex finish. The pastas are house made and al dente.
Crispy Suckling Pig 24: This was the last dish we ordered. Suckling pig with crispy skin. Topped a fried egg on top with salsa verde. The meat was tender and we loved the crispy skin. But slightly underwhelming compared Chinese roasted pork. Forgive me for being biased.
This restaurant was fantastic from start to finish. The room's decor is bright and inviting. The service was attentive and friendly. The food was delicious. I highly recommend the black kale salad. The beet salad was also delicious. The pastas were creative and tasty. The rock fish was perfectly cooked. The cannolli for dessert was so good, we ordered a second. This place was outstanding from start to finish. The restaurant filled up quickly and was vibrant and exciting. I will definitely go back.
We ordered their freshly handmade pasta Broccoli Strascinati. This simple Roman dish was cooked with broccoli in garlic and hot pepper olive oil. Simple recipe but tasted so good. Also they had a wide selection of Italian wines. The server helped us pick a good full body red wine and I loved it so much. The ambiance was good but it was a bit noisy. Definitely I will come back this place again.
