Review Sura Korean Cuisine - Vancouver

Chris
Great value lunch set ($25/person, minimum order of 2) - actually a great deal for parents with a single child. The portions are small but with so many different "courses", great for a tasting menu. A few dishes were tad bit too spicy, it'd be great to be able to customize the spiciness level.
HJ Marshall
Lunch set $25/person is a pretty sweet deal. With minimal order of two persons, you get quite a variety of food and good portions too! You have to eat fast though because the waitress will keep serving and filling up the table. Kimchi pancake was memorable. Seafood pancake was alright. Congee was great.

Got a recommendation to try Sura... My intentions were to get the Gamja-Tang (pork Bone soup) but then I saw their lunch special and had to go for that. It was a sample of many of their popular dishes but man, they were not sample sizes. Great sized portions, great taste and great service!! I will be back.

I ordered the Bulgogi Bibimbap, and it was served on a stone pot that kept the food piping hot for a long time. The food was delicious! It came with three side dishes that change daily, and the traditional Korean decor enhanced the dining experience.

The lunch special here is great value as it includes nearly a dozen delicious dishes that fill up a table. I'd be confident recommending just about everything on the menu, but did find the bulgogi to be the highlight of my visit. The interior is very true to Korean culture and service was decent but underwhelming for such a notable restaurant. I also found the seating uncomfortable.

Located in the coal harbour area of downtown Vancouver, this place serves some great tasting Korean food. We tried their Veggie Dolsot Bibimbap and the Veggie Kimchi fried rice and they both were delightful. The spicy sauce they give with the Bibimbap blends in really well. The portion size was a little bit much for us. So, we took the leftover for to-go and enjoyed the food for a second time at home. The ambience was very inviting and the service was top-notch. If you are here, make sure you try the Dolsot (Korean stone bowl) based dishes to transport you to Korea.

What a great place on Robson St for authentic Korean eats! We actually tried coming here before but the line-up was too long of a wait. Fortunately we came again during foul weather earlier this month (December 2021) & yay, we got a table without delay. Had to call the restaurant to let them someone know we were outside, as patrons are required to stay outside until a staff member came out to assist. I appreciate the covid protocol (they do check for vax i.ds). Their great ratings do not lie - the food is comforting and delicious. Portions are good considering the cost. The decor is light and minimal. Their staff are all excellent in friendliness, attentiveness and speed. The potato pancakes had perfect crisp to it and were very flavourful on their own ~ no sauce really needed. The vegetarian japchae was so satisfying, that we didn’t even miss the meat. I loved the grilled mackerel the most, not overly cooked, with a softly cooked interior while maintaining a crispy skin. It even came with a small Doenjang Jjigae ~ super flavourful soup broth with bits of beef. All the ‘appies’ (kimchi, beans, potato salad) were a perfect sample taste. I wonder if I could have asked for more? The staff were hospitable and quick to serve and clear away. Decor is modern, minimalistic yet relaxed. I’m SO looking forward to coming back again! their bossam is the best dish here (although sometimes they give you mostly the fat-only pieces and hide them below the regular pieces so you can’t tell). the rest is just decent. but it’s pricey esp for some dishes where it’s not much (plain salad for $15??) it always fills up quick so we always go early before they open to get in line and have early dinner. galbijjim is good but not as good as in LA.

This place never disappoints. I wish I can eat there everyday. It is hands down my favorite restaurant. The service is fast and the staff are very nice. The food is Awesome. The Galbi short ribs literally melts in your mouth with its intense flavor. There isn't one dish on the menu I haven't liked yet.

One of the best run Asian/Korean restaurant comparable to higher end restaurants in Yaletown. Always with the best servers and each one is dedicated to the customers and their meal. I do not go here as a regularly as I love to, because of their high quality of staff and speed. Many people wait in line. I do not do well with line up. But the wait is well worth it. Try the lunch it's awesome.

Best Korean ever! This place was well worth the wait and beat all the London Korean hang outs for us. The food is amazing and truly authentic.

Was in Vancouver for the day and this restaurant was recommend by a friend. First time having Korean food, everything we had was absolutely delicious, presentation of the food, beautiful ! Staff friendly, service wonderful. Will definitely go back when I'm in Vancouver!

Great food and very nice place! They should improve their vegetarian options

First time for Korean cuisine and it was great. I recommend the bulgogi. You need to come before they open as they had lots of people waiting.
Changming Shih
One of the top 3 Korean restaurants I had had so far. If you like Asian cuisine, this restaurant should have several dishes that you will love.

There are no words to describe what this restaurant means to me. My Korean friends and I decided to visit this restaurant when we studied in Nanaimo. We were so satisfied with the quality of the food and the service, that going to Sura became our main goal every time we visited Vancouver. Now that I moved to Vancouver, it brings me the loveliest memories. It has become, with no doubts, my favourite restaurant ever! PD: You NEED to order the Set Course 'RA' for lunch!

Sam introduced me to an awesome set lunch here today to celebrate my upcoming birthday. We had the $20 set lunch and the food was delicious and just kept coming and coming. I’m going to introduce my friends and family to this restaurant soon. Thank you for a wonderful experience.

Da bomb, hate the wait love the food and the ambience.

This place is awesome! Great atmosphere and the food was excellent. Our group was pretty large, but they handled our party pretty well. Definitely would come back if we're ever in Vancouver again.

Best Korean food in town. The luncheon special is Always a busy time . Order the $20 special, more variety. So easy to get a taste of all your favorite dishes. Robson location 👍

We (three people) had to wait 40 minutes to be seated because the restaurant was full, but it was definitely worth it. We had the lunch menu RA for 20CAD
Greg Marcia
Good place for authentic Korean food.
The service good and helpful. The dishes were all very tasty and generous in size.
The restaurant is busy and had a long line waiting to be seated.

This is the place to eat authentic Korean food if you crave for this type of food. It is always crowded and for good reason. It is a popular place for both locals and tourists so it is recommended to book a table in advance or failing that , go earlier or later .
FoodEverywhere
Only downsides to this place is the loooong queues and the price for the same quality food you can get at most Korean places. The tteokbokki is amazing, must try. Their seafood is a little over cooked but well seasoned. Japchae is also good.

I've been to Sura once for dinner and I found that experience to be pretty underwhelming after hearing such good things about their food. When I got asked to go try their set lunch menu, I decided to give it another chance and was surprised at how much better their lunch is compared to their dinner. Their lunch combos offer a variety of different dishes for a good price which is probably why it's so busy. We were able to order 3 orders of the lunch combo for 4 people and we were all pretty full so the portions are decent. I usually take photos of everything I eat but my phone was dead so I didn't manage to take anything this time but I do think I'll come back again (but only during lunch time).

TL;DR
-Go for their lunch combos! Pretty good bang for your buck
-Portions are decent
-Lots of variety
-Decent service
-It's super busy at lunch so expect a ~30min wait
-8/10 would recommend to friend

Sura is one of my go to Korean restaurants. It’s on the slightly pricier end but their location and banchan can’t be beat. They have some of the best Korean side dishes in town, and I always find myself back here for consistent Korean eats. This post is a combination of two visits!. What we ate: Seafood Pancake ($20.00)

I always loved Korean food and always down to explore Korean restaurants in Vancouver. However, as I ordered some food for takeouts here and have tried it, I was so disappointed by their food. They did not have the authentic taste of Korean food but rather tasted more like sweet treats. I ordered seafood rice cake, daak bokkeum-tang, and galbi-jim. First off, the seafood rice cake was manageable to eat yet it was over priced compared to the number of ricecakes that they gave. They only gave 2-3 ricecakes. The "daak bokkeum-tang" was absolutely terrible. I hate to say it but they did not give any chickens but only put onions and chicken skins in the stew. The soup was just filled with so much chili oil that I thought I was just eating/drinking chili oil rather eating daak bokkeum-tang. Lastly, Galbi-Jim was definitely not authentic. Galbi-Jim is one of the Korean food that represents the authentic taste of Korean food yet Sura changed the taste of Galbi-Jim. They put too much honey, sweetener, even the oligosaccharide that it did not bring any authentic taste to it. I hope by seeing my review, they would at least consider changing their food or put less sugar on their food and rather try to bring more authenticity to their food.

I have been going to Sura for 5 years now. It used to be one of my favourite Korean resturants but recently is been really hard to get into and there always a huge line. Beside the mass of people the food is delicious and full of flavor. It has also gotten really expensive. I miss the days when it was a nice quiet resturant.. now you have to deal with people standing in line staring and gaping at you as you attempt to enjoy your food.

Sura Korean Royal Cuisine is one of my favorite Korean restaurants downtown Vancouver. It is located on Robson Street. It is a busy place to have lunch and dinner. It’s always super big lineup no matter weekends or weekdays.

My friends and I always went there for lunch since it has a very great deal on their lunch special menu. You can try different kinds of Korean dishes in $15 and $25.

Each dish came fast. The portion of the food is based on people quantity. The food is fresh and tasty. Definitely, we should go back there again.

Set Course SU $15.00

Dong–chimi / Green Salad / Yam Mousse / Tang–pyungchae / Bulgogi / Potato Pancake / Tang–sooyuk / Grilled Atlantic Croaker / Bossam / Doenjang Jjigae / 3 kinds of Side-dishes / Korean Rice Punch

Delicious authentic Korean food. The bulgogi, seafood pancake, and bimbimbap are great. I went during dinner time and the ambiance of the restaurant was very nice and chic. Would 10/10 come back

Reached restaurant quite late (abt 9.25pm), luckily we were served as the last guests. The ambience is quite good for dining, food is fantastic and authentic Korean. I would give 5.0 rating if only we were not "chased out" by asking for payment while we are still eating (guess they want to close on time). Overall it was good food and experience and would definitely come back.

Great food. Authentic Korean. I had one of their lunch combos, and each dish was delicious. The mashed pumpkin is to die for!
The service is good, and staff quite friendly.

Have you ever tried a restaurant that was so delicious, that you couldn’t stop thinking about it for the following few days afterwards? Well, that’s what Sura was like for me!

Seafood pancake, $20: The seafood pancake came bursting with a generous amount of greens and seafood! There were clams, squid, and shrimp inside. It came on a sizzling hot plate and we could still hear the pancake being fried on it. The exterior was nice and crunchy, while the inside was filled with delicious ingredients. It was a great start to our dinner!

Sura Korean Restaurant is known for their affordable lunch sets which includes a wide number of dishes. They offer a $15 set menu featuring 11 dishes and 3 sides as well as a $20 set menu with 13 dishes and 3 sides. For each lunch set, the menu requires a minimum of 2 orders and the set is available to order until 3:00pm daily. Last year (working through my backlog here!), my husband and I tried out their $20 lunch set at their Robson location.

I thought place is good, unfortunately, I didn't pick the classic dish. I will try it another time. This place is good for friends Meetup;) we have four ppl n $30each person
Do u have any recommendations?
Foodie In Vancity
I had the lunch set and the portions we really perfect. There were a whole bunch of different kinds of sides that you can try, which is a great opportunity for people who are new to this type of cuisine. I would definitely recommend checking out this place.
Jentaro
First time visiting this location, it’s smaller than the Richmond one and has less menu items because it doesn’t have the self-BBQ section. No complaints about the food or customer service. Always great quality food here.

Now I know why this place is lined up everytime I walk by!
$20 set course for lunch and guaranteed you won't walk away hungry, the food comes hot and fast so you better eat quick. Our table didn't come close to being able to accommodate all the dishes they bring out. Excellent choice if you don't know what to order, everything was good except for 2 salad dishes and the mung beans or soy beans... I''m not sure what they were to be honest. Also the service was spectacular, my tea was constantly filled to the top and dishes promptly removed from the table.

Probably my favourite Korean place in Vancouver. Their kalbi is amazing, and the seafood pancake is delicious. Great atmosphere too. Gets pretty busy so I'd say make a reservation!

Beautiful food, beautiful settings and awesome servers. The restaurant is an absolute success!
I come to this location whenever I have very important or dear friends coming in town.

Food tastes delicious, their restaurant is clean, tidy and gorgeous. They have plenty of seating but I always end up waiting a long time- which I don't mind because it's always worth it.

It's my boyfriend's favourite Korean restaurant. Their meat is so filling, always cooked perfectly and never a disappointing portion. Price is quite heavy but I can understand why since the quality of the food is superb.
Amanda Pang
One of the best Korean restaurants I've been to. According to my meat-eating brother, the quality of the meat is really nice. I thought the kimchi was really good here too; fresh and balanced, and slightly chilled. Coming here with a group is what I suggest since there are so many things to try.
JDragon
Dining here is an experience. We had the set Ra menu for two. At $20 per person, it is worth every penny due to the quality and number of dishes. It had the best galbi, kimchi and bulgogi I have ever had. Deciding between the two set menus? I can definitely say the $20 menu is worth it, but come ready to tackle a feast of dishes.
Quennie Yu
My love for korean food is incomparable thats why my brother took me to a korean place today.

We ordered the set Ra which has sooo many food that I don't even know what are they!! And all I can say its all soooo good!!! I even had two cups of rice (yes its unlimited rice)!!

And because I haven't tried soju yet my brother ordered their yoghurt soju!!! It's the best alcoholic beverage I have ever tried!!!

The only downside is they have long queue! I don't blame them because the food was really amazing!! 👌🏻
MSY
Very good course meal. Very good pricing as well.
It is not a traditional course meal of course as it is in the heart of Vancouver; they have to make it westernized.
But nice to see a restaurant having Korean course meal which I missed since I left Korea.
Picky Diner
There was a great amount of food in the ‘SU’ lunch set. Not counting the little Banchan plates, the Korean congee bowl, and the dessert rice punch, there were about 9 or 10 dishes, showcasing different Korean cooking style from raw, steaming, frying, grilling, to braising. It was quite the challenge for 2 of us, but we did it! But it’s probably the best $15 lunch for the variety and the quality of the dishes. I highly recommend it to whoever wants to experience the awesomeness of Korean cuisine.
DanoRama
This place was highly recommended to me. They have excellent set menus that have over 15-20 items in them so you get to try a lot of really yummy dishes. Their Galbi is amazing. It's literally served on the bone. My only complaint is they have clearly numbed down the spicy factor to cater to the Western palet. Many dished I had here were much spicier in the mother land. Also, I found the food came out at less than hot temperatures. Korean food should always be served piping hot, especially soups!
The Tila Diaries
I am such a brat, I want to eat at certain places but the line up always stops me from going in, so I end up waiting years to eat it. For example Sura. I hate line ups. Period. This place is always busy when I walk past, but I knew it was for good reason. Sura is always packed with Koreans and that's always a good indicator.
Rebecca Lam
Best Korean I've ever had and I've been to Korea! Great service too. You have to wait to get in most days but it's well worth it! Try their Yuzu Shoju cocktail. Yum.
Cam
It is one of my favorite Korean restaurant. Went there for lunch and got the set A menu $15. I found that the value was excellent. It came out to be 10 dishes. Two person was the minimum that they will take the order. I have always been there for dinner, and this was the first time for lunch. Wish I can upload all ten pics. It does get really busy. Be warn
Junk
It was really busy during lunch hour at the Robson location, so expect some waiting time unless you get there just as it opens. We had to wait about 30 mins, but the food was totally worth the wait. It's a nice place for anyone wanting some tasty (and filling) Korean food.
Marty
Sura is a modern Korean restaurant in the west-end. Seats about 60 or so, and there are no reservations, but they turn tables reasonably quickly. If you're 2 it's fastest, 4 it's ok...if you come with 12 people get a grip and be prepared to wait.

Their food is outstanding...they get a really great colour and char on all their meat preparations.

Favourites are Kimchi pancake, Mackerel Combo, Ginseng Chicken, Galbi.

Definitely worth the wait....there's also a coursed lunch or dinner menu (which is quite a lot of food, be warned) as well as late night student specials.

Sura Korean Royal Cuisine on Robson Street draws a large crowd during lunch and dinner time. Their lunch specials are undeniably affordable for those who want to try an array of Korean cuisine. I came here with a few of my coworkers since I’ve never been here. They have been around since 2008 serving traditional Korean cuisine. They have won multiple awards from Vancouver Magazine and WE Vancouver Best of the City Dining.

Sura Korean Royal Cuisine on Robson Street draws a large crowd during lunch and dinner time. Their lunch specials are undeniably affordable for those who want to try an array of Korean cuisine. I came here with a few of my coworkers since I've never been here. Their $15 lunch set is awesome. So many dishes arrive and you get a taste of a lot of Korean dishes. At times, we would run out of room on the table to put the food. Some of the dishes are a hit and miss, but still a great price. I love this type of family style dining.

Sura is a great take on authentic Korean cuisine and while their menu is somewhat pedestrian and focuses on the Korean classics, each dish they produce was of high quality and huge flavour. An easy recommendation for anyone in the mood for Korean on Robson.

I've heard good reviews, and seen always a lineup when passing by. The last time we tried to get it, it was a 40 minute wait, so we went elsewhere. But this time, my friend wanted to host his birthday dinner there, and since they didn’t take any reservations, we decided to sit it out. The decor was much nicer than other Korean restaurants which sometimes looked like a hole in the wall. The settings were nice. Candles were lit inside glass measuring cups. The place is super packed and lively.

Best $20 lunch in town. Bossam pork belly on daikon is a must. Unbelievable variety of high end Korean fusion and traditional dishes in the lunch samplers. Had some unproductive food coma afternoons at work after this feast. Bring your big boy stomach.
Pharmacistontherocks
All in all, the food was excellent, the service was okay, the restaurant is clean and I would definitely go back.

Today's my foodie day again~ went to two different restaurant (one for lunch and one for dinner). Both were pretty good. I will take the time to write about them throughout the week - I do have to prep for finals... Sura is the place I had passed through multiple times when I was trying different restaurants on Robson. It's another Korean restaurant on this Korean block :D. This is a really popular restaurant which does not take reservation and often has ~30min line up at meal time. Taste ★★★★☆ Portion ★★★☆☆ Service ★★★★☆ Cost $$$ Not Really Recommended. It's nice for a well-prepared/ cooked Korean meal, but the line up/ wait and the portion killed the deal. The lunch set menus could be worth it if the wait isn't long. Taste The food was nicely prepared here. They've put effort into presenting the food, so they all look pretty savory when they came up. Most of them are on the sweeter side while the food I had in Korea were all more on the salty side - it's still authentic and nicely cooked~ so it's just my personal preference. Honestly, I don't think there's anything you can order wrong on the menu, the menu has all the pictures and they all look really great and just like the way they will bring it to your table (almost). Except in smaller portion than on the picture :P. The taste here did not surpass my favourite Korean place in Coquitlum, but I believe, in downtown Vancouver, this could be the best. Side dishes: Sea weed - salty and sweet

My mind automatically drift to Korean food when I crave for meat, lots of meat, lots of marinated meat. I've never been to SURA and was pleasantly surprised when I walked in. I love the roll of tables in the middle separated by silky curtains. I felt like a Korean royalty sitting in there.
Constant Cravings
We ordered the $15 lunch set which comes with a lot of food. You need to order a minimum of 2 sets per table. We had 3 people so we had 3 sets. Sorry this was a while ago so I don’t quite remember everything! Everyone starts off with a bowl of congee ! More flavourful than I expected since I’m not a congee fan.
Waterlily_smile2004
Poor Service. We went to Sura last Sunday on Dec. 21,2014. The food is ok but poor service. We were frustrated and paid 10% tip instead of 15%. Of course, the service staffs not even say thanks just passed us the receipt. We want to tell you that you
are not deserve to get the tips with such poor service!
Mandy

Best Korean Restaurant Downtown. There's a reason why Sura is always really busy... FOOD IS GREAT!! reasonably priced, and great taste.

Even standard dishes like short beef rib (which is like the same everywhere) was freakin amazing... really juicy. I think that they marinate all of their meats for way longer than other restaurants.

I went with a group of 6, the bill was $150.00 and everyone had a drink or two and we were all stuffed. That's only $25 a person with alcohol.... good price!!

Waitresses were nice but a little slow since it is so busy. Make a reservation maybe since you might have to wait for a table...let me make it clean though, the food is WAY better than Jang Mo Jib or Dae Bak Bonga which are across the street.

love it!
Les_choy
Don't come if you're hungry. Waited 20 mins for our food. Watched all other tables get their food before us. No apology for forgetting our order. Food is pretty much same as jang mo jib across the street except more expensive. Eaters beware!

Nice service, good food and cute waiters!. I've gone to Sura twice with a friend of mine and although I was a bit worried while reading the reviews since there were a lot of negatives mentioned about the food and service I was pleasantly surprised when I arrived! The interior design of the restaurant is very well done and expensive looking, I enjoyed the jazz music they played. The waiter who served my friend and I was extremely polite and was constantly around to help us! Along with that the food was really delicious; the first time I went I ordered beef soondibu-jjigae and the second time I went I ordered gamja-tang. Both were very good and had just the right amount of spiciness! I will say though that the portion size for the stew was rather large for me. The first time I went I couldn't finish the bowl of soondibu-jjigae so the second time I went my friend and I split the gamja-tang and the both of us left the restaurant feeling full and very satisfied! I'll definitely come back often to try more food and maybe to see the very polite and handsome waiters again heheh.

So good. Really nice food, you get very much for a good price and very good and polite waitresses

Average Korean Restaurant. I came here for dinner the price was decent, service was pretty good, and the food was pretty good. The place usually get full around dinner time we waited around 10-15 minutes to get a table. The bill was $41 including tips/taxes for 2 people.
GoodGirl
$15 Lunch Set. This was my second time there because we had some really good food on the first visit. On the 2nd visit, we had the $15 lunch set. The food was very good. It was nice to be able to have a little bit of everything! Husband and I were both too full from the meal. It was very busy, but we got in before the crazy lunch rush. Although it was very hectic, servers still remembered to introduce each dish as they arrive. We were both very impressed. Will definitely go back for the $20 lunch set menu some day with a more empty stomach!
PS, you gotta fight your way to a server to put your name down AND you gotta fight your way to get them to take your order. They are too busy..!!
The Boss
Come on. Four tables are empty and still ask us to wait extra 20 mins because someone is late for the reservation?? Was told 30 mins line up. End up 1 hours, only two waitress are actually working. Other 3 are just walking around carry one dishes waking in and out. Food came after 30 mins. Man, used to come here a lot, but for the price, service, next door ja mu Ji will be better choice for now.
Imkoonta
I recommend their mackerel combo lunch set it's a piece of freshly grilled crispy skin mackerel, a personal size of their tofu soup that was hearty, a tad spicy but absolutely tasty, many side dishes with one the best kimchis I've had and rice. All that for $15! A good price considering the room was trendy, clean and service was good. Can't wait to return to sample more!

Awesome Korean Restaurant!!!. I went to Sura for the first time recently when a friend of mine and his wife from Los Angeles came to visit and they wanted some comforting and flavourful Korean food for dinner and I sort of wanted to impress and sort of wanted to relax in a more upscale setting than most Korean restaurants in Vancouver.

I’ve passed by the place many times and had always been impressed by the modern earthy décor. Having been to just about every Korean restaurant downtown as well as in Coquitlam and I must say that my verdict is that Sura is the best Korean restaurant in Vancouver. Their menu is not your usual casual Korean fare, though they do have the staples of BBQ, bibambap, soups and stews, as well as a large selection of noodles for lunch. We opened with a crispy vegetable pancake and the edamame. They wanted a soup and I wanted to try something you can’t get at other places so we all shared the tteok mandu-guk, the bossam, and galbi-jim . I loved the dumplings in the mandu-guk as well as the satisfying but not-too-meaty broth saturated by all those vegetables. My friends really enjoyed the full, rich flavour of the galbi-jim but I found the highlight of the meal to be the delicate of bossam pork belly. It’s something I’ve never had before and I can assure you I’ll be going back just for that.

All in all, I was satisfied with the service and the presentation of the dishes was beautiful. It’s not any more expensive than the other Korean restaurants in the area and I think they could easily charge more because it’s simply the best Korean restaurant in Vancouver that I have been to. The others all seem to serve the same fare, which I still love, because I love Korean food in general, but this place is just one step beyond.
Reeder
Lunch combo!. The lunch set menu at 15 bucks were amazing! More than enough food for two and a little bit of everything! The only complaint was that my bulgogi had a lot of inedible bits like the cartilage, etc. Service has always been great here too!
Jin Heo
The best. Servers. Musics. Foods. everything!
#1 Korean restaurant in Vancouver I think.
Donna Kim
My favourite!. Sura is perfect Korean restaurant to recommend everybody.
They have tasty food and nice mood :)
I usually don't go out to eat Korean food but Sura makes me want to go out to eat!!

Best Korean Food. The best Korean food restaurant in Canada. I love the spicy Tofu soup.
Gihun Sim
Very nice. It's ambiance is calm and very clan. The food was great and potion size was perfect, the service was quite good and they know what the customer needs and want were. Price was a little expansive but if someone wants to go to a good Korean restaurant, I recommend them to go Sura restaurant. I would give 9 point out of 10 for the service, food, ambiance.
YoonJoo Koo
The best!. The food in Sura Restaurant is very nice with reasonable prices. In Sura Restaurant BBQ is the one I would really want to recommend, with lots of meat and vegetables. Sura Restaurant is very simple and clean. The service is very good they would always check to see if anything is missing or if the water is filled. The food comes out really quick which is the best part.

Worth it. I was there for dinner last weekend with 6 other friends. We were lucky to have come earlier before dinner time and got our seats right away. The service was very good. We got our own server for the table. She was hands down, one of the best servers I've ever had at a restaurant. All of our order was carefully written down and she came back after every dish to check if all was ok. I can't count how many times she ran back and forth trying to refill our side-dishes and drinks kept a smile on her face the whole time. The food was great too, except just one dish that came out a bit over-cooked. The ambience was nice, candle-light style, jazz music in the background. Overall we enjoyed our experience a lot and I'm sure more friends of mine will like this place.

Wrong picks!. I should have ordered after I saw what the people at the next table got...sadly we ordered just before their order arrived...and our choices...were OK but I would try something else next time...

Service was good, food quality was OK...just wrong picks...

The worst Korean restaurant in the World. Bad service. Slow and rubbish food. Some people could maybe argue about the food, but nobody can say waiting 15 mins to get the menu and then 2 hours for your meal to come is good service

Another Robson St. Korean joint. **FEB 2 2014 **
- Went here again against my wishes. Still no good, poor service. It's clear that the workers are creating fake accounts to give thumbs down to my review. Ridiculous.

The worst Korean restaurant in Vancouver period. I am sure the price of dishes are based upon how much that specific piece of land costs on Robson but wow overpriced for crap.
You are paying money for the atmosphere but seriously, why would you spend $$ on the surrounding mood for a Korean restaurant? Unless the quality of food can stand up to its high-end appearance. My friends and I ordered the seafood pancake, japchae and spicy pork dish. My friends were Taiwanese, CBC, Irish, San Francisco-an, and a New Yorker. No one enjoyed the food. Ingredients were lacking and the pork was overcooked. I would never recommend this place folks.

Although the waitstaff may be a little inattentive at times, the food is generally good. Nothing that is all too spectacular, but still very good. Try the BBQ. Tender meat that is marinated well and grilled very well.

Mmmm. Bibimbap.. We dined at Sura this weekend after lunch plans with family fell through. There were line ups at the ramen places down the street, and other Korean restaurants along Robson were either too full or too empty for us, and based on the clean, modern appearance of Suras' dining area, we decided to make it our stop for a quick meal.

We noted that the restaurant was really clean, and that about 50% of the other patrons were Korean.

We decided on the bulgolgi bibimbap and a spicy soybean soup laden with tofu, beef, and veggies, and noted how hard it is to order for two in Korean restaurants. (You either 1) take home lots of leftovers, 2) waste a lot of food, or 3) eat way too much and suffer from food coma for the rest of the day.) With the two dishes and the three complimentary sides, however, I was full and satisfied, while the boy was nicely satisfied.

The portions are a little smaller, but the food really hits the spot. I would definately make Sura my go-to place for bibimbap, and would love to try their Kalbi Tang next time.

Service was polite, friendly, and attentive, and seating was comfortable and warm. Both of us noticed now clean the "front of the house" grill area was - in an area with steam and grease, this window was extremely clean.

A plus for putting quality over quantity - at just over $20 for two people for lunch, we hope that Sura sticks around for a while!

Go somewhere else if you're caucasian. My husband & I are visiting Vancouver from the states. We were walking on Robson and popped into Sura for what we thought would be a delicious Korean lunch on a Saturday afternoon. We are very familiar with Korean fare as it is one of our favorites. This place looked very nice and clean and a little more upscale than the many other Korean restaurants on the same block. There were 2 other tables of Korean patrons when we went in. The waitress seated us at a table and brought us some waters and menus. In the meantime two other Korean parties came in some time after us, one of 6 and one of four. I was excited to try the food because the menu looked delicious. We sat for 20 min or so and had to flag the waitress to take our order. She took the orders of the other 2 tables after ours. We sat for another 15 min or so and the other tables got their food and drinks. Our waters were empty and the waitress hadn't even spoken to us since she'd taken our orders. I asked my husband if he noticed that we were being ignored. He said when he lived in Korea (for about 3 years) the Americans were always treated differently at resaturants. I couldn't believe this could be true. We sat for another 10 min or so and finally just walked out. I was disappointed because the menu looked great but it was unbelievable that we were treated so dismissively by the staff. I really can't believe that in such an international city as Vancouver this would happen. Very disappointing indeed.
Dotorious
Terribly disappointing. We were walking to another restaurant when we noticed a new Korean restaurant on Robson. It was nicely decorated, looked very crowded, and there was a friendly waiter by the door encouraging us to try it out. So we gave it a try.

The menu claims to serve "Korean royal court cuisine into modern fusion cuisine," but there's nothing royal or fusion about this place. It's bad to mediocre Korean food on fancy, oversized plates.

We had the stewed mackerel which was obviously made from frozen and consisted of bony, gummy scraps of fish. The banchan side dishes were so saccharine sweet that they were inedible. The boiled pork served with kimchi and napa cabbage was also poorly prepared, with way too much cinnamon... and again, doused with sugar. The kalbi-tang (beef soup) was pretty good, though, and we ordered this for takeout another day. I now suspect there's quite a bit of MSG in this, though.

Out of 10? I'd give this place a 2. Not exactly a rousing recommendation.

It is my friend’s birthday today and we went to Sura for a celebratory lunch. Sura is hands down my favorite Korean restaurant in town and I probably come here way too often. The food here is always delicious and service is excellent for such a busy place. Beware of the lineup even on weekdays...

You’ve tried Korean BBQ and Korean hotpot. What about having a Korean royal cuisine? Sura (Suragan) is the name of the royal kitchen in Korea where the royal court maids prepared the king’s meals. With plenty of dishes squeezing on a tiny table, Sura offers 12~15 courses lunch special king’s meal. For a $15/person lunch set, here’s what you’ll get...

Most places in Vancouver let you have a decent meal for $15 before taxes. Sura takes this philosophy to the next level by giving you 12 courses for their midday meal. If you’re wondering why there’s always a line-up, the Set Course SU is one leading candidate. Food: The Set Course SU may have dishes considered less than a course (e.g. Green Salad, or a Rice Punch), but the rest of the plates are loaded with very appropriate servings. The food takes awhile to come after your order, but like many Asian places, once the first few plates come it’s an endless rush of incoming food. At one point there was no space left at our table so we had to start combining a few plates together. Overall in this set, it was a satisfying dance on my taste buds. I will give one knock on the bossam (pork belly) since it tasted a little dry wherever it wasn’t fatty. Another happy surprise was the Tang–pyungchae (pictured below) which is a plate with julienned green bean jelly mixed in with other herbs and ses

My introduction to Korean cuisine actually came quite a few years after I had moved to Vancouver. Unlike Japanese and Thai food, which I was introduced to right away, it took me a few years to finally try Korean food and boy was I glad that I did. To me, Korean cuisine represents the best of two worlds: The use of a variety of Asian inspired sauces and flavours, combined with any carnivores dream. Having been raised on a diet of kebabs, stews and protein-based dishes, Korean cuisine fits right into my wheelhouse.

Grayson and I were supposed to go to Sura a while ago but we got distracted and ate somewhere else instead. So when one of my friends were visiting from Toronto, I suggested that we go there because well, I really wanted to get Korean food and she doesn’t get it often either so it was the perfect place for us to go. Like all Korean restaurants, we were offered a few side dishes to go with our meal. Sura offered us marinated soy beans, kimchi and mashed kabocha squash. I decided to get the sundubu ($11) for lunch and it came with a bowl of rice. There was a large block of soft tofu and an abundance of seafood (mussels, shrimp, calamari) hidden within the tofu soup which quite frankly, surprised me because I wasn’t expecting there to be very much in there because the bowl looked so small. The broth was flavorful and just spicy enough for my taste because they also included a few slice

... tender beef all pre-cut up to prevent gnawing at the table; each piece of beef had a bit of crunch from the gristle (my fav); flavor a bit salty and I suspect MSG though; sadly not as impressive as previous visits...

If you plan on dropping by, definitely go online to check their menu and take a look at the dinner set courses! If I was a fan of Korean cuisine, I would definitely try their pancake (4 different kinds), rice rolls (2 different kinds) and a lot of BBQ meat dishes. The pork belly is good and the samgye-tang is interesting, but it did not sell me to come back (note: not a fan of korean food that's why). BUT since Sura in Aberdeen will be open soon, I want to try the dinner set courses, they look a lot better! Oh yeah, for service, they could have been attentive, friendlier or followed up, the restaurant was not very busy when we needed the bill but no one seemed to be around. I think we were missing side dishes too -__-.

Kross over Korean ~ Went to " Sura " in the Korean district of downtown Vancouver. It was full at 8pm with people sitting inside and even more waiting outside, good thing we had reservations Half our group was running late. Trying to find any roadside, meter parking downtown on a Friday night is no easy feat. As the rest of us waited, the waitress nudged us several times to order, you could definitely feel the push out the door. The interior of " Sura " is large and newer than some of the other Korean restaurants on the block. The tables in the centre were separated by curtains that flowed from the ceiling. They were used to create individual seating rooms, and did well to maximize the space. Our table was right against the front window. I didn't really mind it, and it was not that cold with my back against the glass; but I could have only imagine the uncomfortable

...Grilled beef short ribs marinated in a Korean bbq sauce. This was delicious! It was hot (temperature wise), tender and sweet. The sauce they seasoned the beef with was really tasty. Definitely recommend! I suggest ordering this with a bowl of white rice as well.

They specialize in traditional Korean court cuisine of the Joseon dynasty. Unlike the other Korean restaurants on the Robson which are more casual places to grab a drink, some meat, and side of rice, (think Korean barbeques, fusion cuisine, Karaoke bars, and the closest thing we have to Pojangmacha in Vancouver), Sura is noticeably classier to passerbys.
In the distance, I spotted a sign that said SURA. Well, this looks promising, I thought to myself. Calgary has a similarly named Korean restaurant which I absolutely love, so if the name is any indication, it should be excellent, right This was my logic. Before we made our official decision, we checked out the menu board. It looked pretty good with a lot of different dishes, so we headed inside. Korean restaurants are usually not known for their decor – they usually look more “homey” an

Even though the items my wife, my son, and I ordered today were extremely tasty and enjoyable, I couldn’t help but think that our meal could be even tastier and more enjoyable. The whole time we were at the restaurant, we kept seeing the diners at every other table being served dish after dish until their tables were filled to the edges with a veritable feast.

The Lunch Set Course SU ($15 per person) consists of nine dishes, as well as three side dishes, rice for two, and a Korean rice punch for dessert. To start: the green salad and dong–chimi . The salad was fairly standard and not anything too special, though I did appreciate that it was a bit more decorative than what you would normally see at an Asian restaurant. The dong-chimi was something new that I haven't tried before. The internet tells me it is a "radish water kimchi" -- are you supposed to drink the water? I'm not sure, but apparently it can be used as a broth with noodles. I drank some of the cold liquid anyway, and it was pretty good. Tasted pretty much like kimchi. The t ang–pyungchae or m ung bean starch jelly salad was one of my favourite dishes of the meal. It was a refreshing cold noodle

I absolutely LOVED it. Korean food in general is delicious and as a non-Korean I thought the Korean short ribs and bibimbap here were delicious.

The food is true to its roots and beautifully presented. The plating elevates the food, but not the cost. The menu items were at most a few dollars more than your run-of-the-mill Korean restaurant, and their lunch set course is a steal at $15.

It is funny that in the 1500 and 1600 blocks of Robson Street, there are 5 Korean restaurants plus a food stand inside Robson Market plus another in the side streets. Even funnier? I work near that a
