Good sushi place! the prices are fair, the food is really fresh and authentic. I would definitely recommend. Really nothing bad to say about this place. The service is great. Typically Japanese, always doing a fantastic job.

Things started off nicely with the Tuna Tataki Salad, which was beautifully presented with a carrot flower on top. The tuna had a soft center, a pleasant smoky flavour, and a nice hardening around the edges. The salad was mainly lettuce-based, and the light ponzu sauce did not overwhelm the flavour of the tuna (though it was a bit too tangy and savoury for the salad itself).

Had dinner at this establishment tonight Nov 13. We were served by a very polite server, prompt, and attentive. We ordered tempura, baby shrimp sunomono, and 4 rolls. Food was excellent.

I've gone here today first time. I like Japanease food very much and I know about that kind food well. Ekoya is a good restaurant. Tempura was crispy and not thick. Miso and lunch menu was not so solty. Rolls had a good rice. Everything on the table was good. The only thing I want a little thicker slice in nigiri. This restaurant will be my favorite.

Quite Pleased. Great sushi restaurant! Reading some of the reviews, I was a little hesitant to try Eko-Ya, but i'm glad I went anyways!
I find it hard to find an over all good sushi restaurant. Usually you have to sacrifice the atmosphere for good food - or vies versa, but not here.
A spacious place, with big tables that are slightly sectioned off to give you some privacy from the other customers sitting around you. The ambiance is perfect, just a tad to make the place have an over all cozy but chic feel. The seats are a little on the firm side, but large. I had the Chicken teriyaki box, which was an average sized box. Sushi rolls are well proportionate - they aren't chocked full of rice. The staff are a little on the shy side, but very friendly once they open up. The waitress that served me was great. You can really tell that she genuinely cares about the customers she serves, which to me, means at least 70% of the experience at a restaurant establishment. It's a tad on the pricier side but not ridiculous.
A nice quiet, friendly place to enjoy some fresh delicious sushi. Definitely will be going there again.

Wonderful atmosphere and today at lunch I was greeted right away by a polite hostess.
I ordered a lunch box and was happy with what I received.
The roll prices weren't anything too special, but the tempura, salad, teriyaki, miso we're all good.
A pretty good value I happily thought.
I don't understand the $1.25 charge for green tea.
I will be back and be a bit more adventurous with my food choices.
so far so good.

Writing this as I sit in the restaurant before catching the ferry home. I almost didn't go from seeing a 3 and a half review. The person who said this is overpriced must not eat a lot of sushi. The prices for the portion size and quality are actually fair or maybe even a good deal.

Service quality was efficient and neither great nor poor but in what Sushi restaurant am I expecting bubbly, really extroverted service?

The only thing I would advise is that they feature their "special rolls" and none looked particularly special. We tried one (a tuna roll lathered in cheapish hot sauce) that was a miss but the tuna quality was great.

Anyway, a place deserving of a solid 4 as far as sushi goes

Very Fresh Fish, Lovely Presentation. My family was on the way home from the ferry terminal and we decided to stop for dinner somewhere on the way. Edo Ya looked promising from the outside, so we decided to try it. We were pleasantly surprised; Edo Ya has become one of our new favourite restaurants. (Too bad we live so far away from it!)

I couldn't help but notice that one reviewer complained about the prices, but I found them to be quite reasonable. After all, when it comes to sushi, you really get what you pay for. In fact, the food at Edo Ya was a little less expensive than the restaurant my family usually goes to for sushi, but with equal emphasis on fresh, high-quality seafood (maybe it has somehting to do with the location). It's true that a meal here is kind of expensive, but that is always the case with good-quality sushi.

The sockeye salmon sashimi was superb, with the most generous portion size I've ever seen. The fish was very fresh and flavourful. In fact, all of the portions were quite generous with the fish; they certainly didn't skimp on the seafood. I really enjoyed the Yaki Tai (cooked snapper nigiri with a slightly spicy sauce.) If you order any rolls with real crab, you get actual cunks of crab legs, not just shredded crab. Unfortunately, when I was there, they had just run out of Uni, but that's not a big deal, since Uni is a very seasonal dish and also fairly popular. Every single dish we tried was delicious. The presentation of the food was lovely too.

The menu is varied with lots of different dishes to choose from. I really liked that there were some healthier options too, such as getting brown rice instead of white rice on the sushi rolls, and being able to get the gyoza steamed instead of fried.

The service at Edo Ya was very good, and everyone was very friendly. The chef actually came out to talk to us after dinner, and he even made us a special dish that wasn't on the menu (although I wish it was, since it was delicious).
It's a real shame that Edo Ya isn't busier, since the food was excellent. We will definitely be back, and I will reccommend it to my friends as well.

Edo Ya? YAH!. I've visited lots of BC sushi joints and this one definitely scores high marks across the factors of food, service and atmosphere. It's a smart looking place and the food matches that standard too - sashimi was top notch fresh, stir fried noodles were perfect, roll was perfect. There's special attention goes into the presentation too - the extra touch counts for a lot...

Chef even gave the diners a free salmon dish each. Easy going ambience and friendly attentive staff. We will return.
