This is some of the tastier pizza I've had. Delicious thin crust all made from scratch. And a good variety of flavoured olive oil.
B/c everything is made fresh, there is a bit of a wait. So go before your stomach grumbles.
Had gnocchi for the first time here & realized I'm not a fan of gnocchi but the pasta is decent and they certainly don't skimp out on the sauces.
I've had several different pizzas over the years, and you can't go wrong with any of them.
I have been going here since the 1970's when it was on Gerrard , the Father ran it
Now on the Danforth , the prices have gone up quite a bit but the food is amazing
huge servings and all hand made and fresh daily
Gerard's was not bad. The wait was very long but we were warned that it would take at least an hour for our orders to arrive before we were even seated (despite there only being 2 other tables - a group of 4, and a couple) being at the restaurant. But I knew this coming into the restaurant.
The staff was friendly and the ambiance was cozy.
We ordered the prosciutto pizza, the basil and garlic pizza, spaghetti napoletana, seafood pasta, and the seafood risotto.
Both seafood dishes were pretty terrible. Very fishy. And the risotto didn't have much of a taste. The seafood pasta was very wet and drippy. I wouldn't recommend either.
I really enjoyed the spaghetti Napoletana. The sauce was great. Really flabourful. The portion was small though for the price. But I'd order it again.
The garlic and basil pizza was completely covered in garlic and was very hard to eat. It would have been amazing if they had just put about 4 cloves of COOKED garlic in the entire pizza instead of 4 cloves of RAW garlic PER SLICE, it would have been an amazing pizza. It was almost there. I won't lie though, the sauce and dough was so nice, that I still ate it (but only after scraping off massive amounts raw garlic off the pizza).
As bad as this review sounds, I would go back. But only because some of their other menu items sound promising and J am all about second chances. I didn't mind the wait.... Good food takes time.
The prosciutto pizza was dry. Not bad.
The best sauce and panzerotti I've had. The portions are large, service is friendly and prompt. Get some sauce on the side for dipping. Prices are excellent and the newly renovated interior gives a great ambiance.
Amazing Italian food. Pizza is large and tasty. Calzones are hug. And pasta sauce is fresh. Family owned and operated for years my family has been going her since the 90's. Just awesome. Best pizza in town!
Classic "old-school" Italian restaurant that always manages to satisfy. The decor is outdated, but that is what adds to the charm of the place. A complete menu featuring everything from pasta, chicken and veal dishes right up to the star of the show which is pizza.
Calamari and salads are also on the menu and worth ordering as a start to any meal. Service has always been fast and friendly.
GREAT Italian food!!!. Authentic is the word of the day here. Not a super fancy place by any means, but the food is great(I love their pasta dishes....), and the service is friendly.
Totally recommend it.
Amazing Pizzas!. I'm a big Pizza Explorer....And when I ate here..This directly was included in my Top 3 list.. :) Spectacular Crust!
We came here on thurs nite we order pizza was huge and it was amazing we will go back again for only pizza grazie
Food was unbelievable and the portions were huge.
One of the best pizzas we've had in awhile.
Will definitely come back
Best Pizza in Toronto. We've been there a couple times and it's always awesome.
Takes a little longer because they make it from scratch, but it's worth the wait.
My favourite was the one with fried chicken, garlic, and sundried tomatoes.
I asked if they had any dipping sauce and the guy laughed and whipped something up with olive oil, garlic, salt, and hot peppers that he picked from his garden.
Definitely recommend this place.
If there's better pizza in Toronto.... ...then I haven't found it. Small, family-run, and without any sniff of pretense is the best way to describe this joint. It's at the east end of Greektown, on the Danforth at Coxwell Avenue, so it's easy to find. It's becoming increasingly surrounded by Ethiopian and Turkish take-out places, so it's a little bit of a gastronomic anomaly for the neighbourhood. Expect to be chatted up by the owner (and don't get him going about Rob Ford's plans for the city) and expect to be delighted by the pizza: a somewhat thin crust but substantial, slightly sweet, and on the well-done size which makes the flavours really pop. They have Niagara Brewery beer on tap (lager and dark) plus a good selection of bottled beer and a decent wine list. It's about as far from PizzaPizza as you can get and it's not that much more money. Go already! I do regularly and I live 60km away!
Best PIZZA in the city. I've been everywhere - Queen Margherita, Terroni's - you name it. This place has the BEST pizza in the city, bar none...and i would know, my mother is 100% Italian and I grew up eating nothing but home-made food. Ingredients are fresh (some from the owner's mother's garden!!), the crust is thin (order the 12" pizzas, the larger pizzas have thicker crusts)...tremendous variety on the menu, and I have never been disappointed. My personal favorites: The Calabrese, The Vulcano (a much hotter version of the Calabrese), the Tonno (with Tuna...delicious.).
Service takes time but everything is made fresh and it is worth the wait. The house wine in the ceramic jug is an excellent compliment to the pizza. I have had a little of the various pasta dishes - and they're good - but let's face it, anyone who knows how to cook can make good pasta - you can't find pizza like this anywhere in Toronto. Visit, eat pizza - you won't regret it.
Authentic. We have been eating at Gerrard Pizza for over 20 years and have never once received bad service or have been displeased with our meal. We have over the years taken many people with us to enjoy the amazing selection of foods we have had authenticated by quests we had from Northern Italy. There comment was "just like home". The wait maybe a bit longer than the franchise restaurants as your food is made to order but in my opinion it is worth the wait....my favorite is a take home panzarotti.
Great Food Takes Time. The menu or a sign hanging
states
"good food takes time"
... They're right.
Everything is made fresh.
the hot peppers are from their garden.
the sausage is homemade...
nothing gets better than this place.
Lastly, we enjoyed how the portions were generous. Both in quantity of food and quantity of sauce. We hate it when restaurants give you a drop of sauce over pasta with the moisture content of dehydrated astronaut food.
