I have been exploring some of the Korean restaurants in this neighbourhood at lunchtime. So far there are a few similarities (menu, large portion sizes) and differences (decor). Lim Ga Ne seems to be somewhere in the middle from a decor and seating perspective. Half the restaurant has a simple, conventional table and chair arrangement, and the other half has a traditional no shoes and low table seating. The decor is modest, with a few posters, televisions, and international flags suspended from the ceilings. The restaurant wasn't too busy when I arrived, so I was promptly seated and served a cup of hot tea.
Admittedly, my menu choice has been very narrow in my recent Korean eating adventures. I seem to be stuck on TonKatSu and it's various derivatives. Although I did not see it in the Lim Ga Ne menu, they had a small poster on the wall, advertising TonKatSu for $10, so I went with that.
While I waited for my main dish, the server brought out six small side dishes. This seems to be a common practice at Korean restaurants. The dishes included kimchi, pickled radish, roasted potatoes, bean sprouts, shredded beans, and some short, broad flour noodles.
Then the huge plate showed up, with a large portion of breaded, deep fried pork cutlet, topped with a fruity, sweet sauce ("katsu"). On the side were sticky rice and coleslaw. The pork had been pounded thin, and the breading had kept some moisture in the meat, preserving some tenderness.
Another tasty, filling Korean meal.
24hr korean restaurant! Good place with good amount of choice of food to choose from.
I really enjoyed this dish and thought it had just the right amount of spiciness in the broth and various things mixed in it to keep things interesting.
