Dinofa (Hongkongese)
+3.5
Pepper salt with little spicy is easy to handle, seaweed with medium spicy is on 🔥, I ordered two combos (two chickens and two drinks) and that was enough for three people! We couldn't believe we were full, it's pricey though.
The chicken was definitely large and hot and delicious.. But for the price? Naww! I paid around $14 for a chicken the size of my face and a can of pop. I'm guessing this chain is so much cheaper in Asia. But let's talk about that chicken, original salt & pepper with more spice to be exact: seasoned in five spice powder, battered and deep fried to golden perfection, and dusted with loads of chili powder. Not only did my eyes water from the level of spice, but also because of that juicy crisp perfection of a fried chicken. Could've used some rice with my chicken still. Watch out when taking a bite! Fresh out of the fryer can burn your tongue bad.. don't get too excited.
I'll give this place 3.5/5 stars.
At the beginning, *the first bite* it was definitely at 5 stars - the "omg! I'm so coming back for this." But then it gets to a point where the fried chicken became bland :( Note that the portion is huge, one was more than enough for me.
There's a graph on the wall of this place indicating how the first bite is the best part too haha.
I'd recommend the:
SEAWEED FLAVOUR FRIED CHICKEN :)
We ordered the regular crispy flavour and thought the seafood one wins by far. This place is great for a try, but I don't think I'll return anytime soon.
Came here with a friend as I had heard about this new fried Taiwanese chicken place from a friend and also read the blogTO review online.
Came on a Friday night at 630pm, and the place was full. Not much of a lineup to pay but around a 15 min wait for the chicken after ordering.
I was surprised by the fact that there were no fries available and many of the menu items were still not available after having read about it a month ago.
The original chicken for $10 was very delicious. Seasoned very generously, and very tender. There wasn't much bones to my piece and the taste was great. Definitely huge piece of chicken! Was very filling. Will come back if in the neighbourhood for a snack.
Last year when I was in Toronto, Hot Star Large Fried Chicken happened to have just opened! I had not intended to visit but we were passing by and there was a huge line up so we decided to join in. Hot Star is a well known chain in Taiwan. They have this giant wall mural that teaches you all about their chicken.
I forgot to make a size comparison of the large fried chicken, but it was humongous!! It was as big as my face (where did they find such a big chicken..breast LOL) and you could share it with a friend or save it for another meal. One can mistake this for a Schnitzel but this one has bones on the tail end of the chicken so be careful while eating. Though I ordered the medium spicy, both of us agreed that it wasn’t too spicy at all and I would ask for the extra spicy next time.
