My parents took me here all the time when I was a kid. I still go sometimes with my mom and my sisters. Taking my fiancé today, actually. Same guys cooking the fish since the 70s or 80s, my mom says.
I have really fond memories of this place. It has that classic diner feel.
I like it! I have only been to the Duckworth's on the east end (are they related?) years ago and will soon go back for a comparison. There are 4 main fish you can choose from and we picked cod and their specials halibut. The halibut is very meaty but a teeny little bit lacking in taste. The cod is thin and a longer piece, also has a little bit more taste to it.
Both the super thick cut chips and the fish were freshly fried and the batter well seasoned. The price is fair and I'll probably go for two pieces of fish instead of fish + chips next go.
Duckworth's is a neighborhood gem. Delicious halibut and fries has been making residents of East York be coming back for years. The quality and taste of the fare had not changed at all..consistent since I was a little one. Even the diner appear and feel is just as I remember it.
Recommendations: halibut fish & chips and cole slaw!! Must try! It's keeps me coming back after all these years!! Yum!
A staple in the Main and Danforth neighbourhood. Good food and good people.
Amazing food, have been eating here since I was a kid. Atmosphere is what you'd expect from an old place like this, a little grubby, but the food is worth it.

Best fish and chips anywhere!!! I have been going here since I was small and our family has been going there since it's inception in the 1930's!!! I hold all other fish 'n chips places to the Duckworths flame and have yet in over 40 years in both Canada and the US, found anyone anywhere to surpass it!!! You just have to have it once and you too will sing their praises!!!
Daimond in the rough restaurant. Good food and great dining in
How are there not more reviews here?. I searched "Duckworths" thinking there would be a hundred glowing reviews and I could just post something like, "Yep, it really is as good as everyone says!" but there's not much here!
Okay, I'll say it: Len Duckworth's Fish & Chips is the best fish and chips in the city. I'm not a food critic, but I know it's been voted best in the city by newspaper and food critics many times before. If you visit on a Friday evening, the sheer number of people waiting for takeout will attest to that.
We enjoyed everything we ate, and although neither of us feels that Duckworth’s fish can quite compete against the likes of places, such as...
Len Duckworth’s Fish & Chips is an East York staple, discussed many times on the Toronto Food Blog. Their famous Halibut and Chips rivals anywhere else in the city… best on Danforth hands-down.
