Consistently delicious food - awesome value ! My mouth starts watering several hours before I know I'm having TJ's for dinner. Yum Yum ! Best dish for me is a spicy Jerk Chicken dinner with oxtail gravy.

The best food court food I have ever eaten!  Located at Gerrard Square Mall.  These dudes should franchise this and branch out so that other places through out the city can have access to their great food!  Love the curry chicken and jerk chicken, stewed chicken.  I haven't had a bad dish from this place

Best roti!. The service is fast and friendly, and the food is always great! Portions are good for their prices. The "chicken roti" is by far the best roti I've had.
They just added some new menu items, which I want to try, but it's had turning down their roti.
Typically "food court" food is 5/10 at best, tropical joes is a 10!

Friendly staff and great west Indian fare with loads of fresh flavour. Eaten here many times and it's consistently good. Not your usual food court crap... I recommend it for those who want some authentic eats from the Carribean!

Don't let the Gerrard Square food court location fool you. This is real good, real west indie food that became a favourite after being recommended to me by my friend from Ghana. Welcome too here after the Dutch Pot closed down.

The Stew Chicken is amazing. Chopped bits of chicken in a sort of sweet and sour curry (different from the ox tail gravy) fortified with some onions. It’s also rather peppery. Not spicy though it does have a slight tingle but more just tasting of pepper. The chicken managed to stay moist even during stewing which is a huge plus.

Tropical Joe’s   is not a sit-down restaurant, it is a mall cafeteria outlet, and it’s not an Eaton Centre mall, or even from a downtown joint, it’s from Gerrard Square, alongside KFC, El Greeko, [don’t get me started on the Spanish accent], Subway, and some others, but why does it stand out  Surely this isn’t a “Sliders”  episode where in this universe I look for the most forgettable dives ever, could it? Well I can assure you it’s not, as Tropical Joe’s has more to offer than bolted seating and a clichéd name.  The food is restaurant quality, frankly begging the question why isn’t this at the Eaton Centre [maybe it’ll be in the second cafeteria]  The weird part is that it isn’t just one good thing and lots of bad dishes they have going on, it seems more like the exact opposite [the wolf in the fold are the flavorless vegetables, don’t bother with them].  That’s the summary, here’s the detail. What most people would order is the Jerk Chicken, which is one of their best options.  For a

Tucked away at the back of the Gerrard Square lies Tropical Joe’s. These guys are making a name for themselves by serving, perhaps, the best food court fare in the city. I eat here at least every couple of weeks, and each time I do the queue gets a little bit longer. Hopefully after reading this, I’ll be seeing you in line on a regular basis.Guyanese favourites such as Oxtail, Goat, Curried Beef and Jerk Chicken are served either as a Dinner (small or large w/ Rice & Peas, Curried Potato and Coleslaw) or rolled-up in a Roti (small or large).

These days, I’m finding that the large is actually too much food for lunch, though I will tend to order a Goat Patty if I opt for the small… and wash everything down with a Ting (as you do).Tropical Joe’s has been family-owned and-operated for the past twenty years. It wasn’t until Joe’s son Chris took the helm in 2006 that they moved to Gerrard Square. “This place is home to me,” says Chris. “I try to provide home-cooking that can be enjoyed on a daily basis. It’s what I eat everyday, and the same can be said for our most loyal customers.”A recent menu expansion has provided the regular customer with more options while attracting the local high-school clientele by catering to their tastes. Jerk Chicken Poutine with Oxtail Gravy is a big hit, as are their Jerk Chicken Sandwiches on Coco Bread. “Jerk Chicken is our number-one seller here,” says Chris. Add it to practically anything on the menu, including one of their daily soups. Be sure to ask for their homemade hot sauce. Everything can be spiced-to-taste by request.

We’re all familiar with the old saying, “if you build it, they will come.” Chris has been working hard doing just that: building loyalty through his Guyanese home cooking. Located in the back of a place that, historically speaking, does not have the most foot traffic, slowly but surely Gerrard Square is moving in the right direction. Word’s getting out that it’s worth the trip to Tropical Joe’s. The addition of some new anchor stores can’t hurt either;)
