The real deal. Having lived in Japan for many years and toured to eat good ramen, I can honestly say this is the real Hakata ramen. Thick, creamy broth; chashu that has melt in your mouth fat; perfectly half-cooked eggs. Umai!
What Hakata lacks in looks, they make up for in taste. The black garlic Ramen is something that stands out compared to its competition. If you like spice, the side of ghost peppers will definitely make you sweat! I'd recommend giving it a try if you are in the area.
Came here on a Friday night around 6:30 and there was already a line out the door. My friend was already there so I joined her by the window where the line never stopped.
We both got the original ramen with egg, which I highly recommend as a topping. The broth was so rich and it was definitely my favorite part. The meat was also tender and the noodles went well together. It's definitely enough to get you full!

I finished with one client in the morning, and I had time for lunch at Hakata ShoRyuKen before heading to the airport. It is a cozy restaurant with seating for about 30. The dining room was mostly empty when I arrived at noon.
On my way into the restaurant I noticed their Lunch Combo (on a board on the sidewalk), which was also featured on the first page in their menu. It was a bowl of Hakata Tonkotsu Ramen with a side dish for $13.99. I ordered that with the straight noodles (server recommended) and the Karage Don side.
The bowl of ramen was full of good stuff. The broth had lots of flavour, the noodles were cooked right, the sliced black mushrooms were nice and slippery, and the pork belly was tender. The Karage Don was four pieces of dark meat chicken, deep fried with a light crispy batter, with a light dressing, served atop some sticky rice.
The was a large lunch. I left satisfied and stuffed.
Rich and flavorful broth with the most buttery chashu I've ever had. I ordered the black tonkotsu with wavy noodles. This place instantly became one of my favorite ramen joints.
I LOVE ramen and I wanted to try this place ever since I saw it while walking by a few times. I ordered their regular tonkotsu ramen and it was really good. The broth wasn't as salty as some of the other restaurant's like Sansotei or Kinton but it isn't plain by any means. In fact, I liked the more subtle taste, it was quite refreshing; you get to taste the pork broth more. One nit pick would be that the slices of chashu were pretty thin. They were lightly seared on one side and tasted good though. I also ordered their takoyaki which were, again, quite good, although they were a bit smaller than what you would get from other places. Service was good too.
I was also a fan of the decor. The traditional ramen house design you see from the outside is what drew me in initially. Additionally, if you're a manga and anime fan like me, you'll be pleasantly surprised to find that there are numerous volumes of mangas displayed along their walls and on the edge of the windows. They even had vintage Japanese issues of Shonen Jump! I didn't ask if the books are available for customers to flip through but my guess would be no.
I can't wait to visit again and try the other items on their menu as I can definitely see this restaurant becoming one of my favorite ramen places!
Omg. What can I say about this place. I think I found my new favorite place to have ramen. The broth is amazing. The quality of the pork meat (cha siu) is very good and fresh, it doesn't have that gamey taste that some places have. The karage and octopus balls were also very good. I would recommend this place as somewhere to go if you are craving ramen.
I really felt like a nice hot bowl of ramen lately! Hakata Ramen Sho Ryu Ken specializes in Hakata Tonkotsu style ramen! I mean firstly who can resist the cute exterior of this noodle house? Simply adorable!π
I personally fun it less crowded compared to other noodle houses and it's fairly cozy. I really like the little baskets they have under the seats for the single seats. Very thoughtful indeed! For all patrons to store their purse and other items while they enjoy and slurp their yummy bowls of noodles!π€ Plus who can resist the Street Fighter motif that's present? It's very appealing to slurp a yummy bowl of ramen while admiring pics of Ryu!ππ€
I really love the char siu lovers ramen! Who can really resist 7 peices of yummy char siu in a rich creamy broth! The char siu has a slightly charred here, which adds good texture and flavor to the palate. The meat is tender and velvety smooth. Yums! I opted for the wavy thick noodles which were nice and chewy in texture. Next time however, I will opt for the thin straight noodles as the Hakata Tonkotsu ramen is typically with the thin noodles. I also tried the fried karage and beef tataki. Which were both fair but nothing to write home about. I really love the soup at Hakata. It's so rich and full of flavor. It's said they pound each peice of bone to brew their rich broth. So good! π
Wow! I declare Hakata as one of the best ramen noodles houses in Toronto! I can't wait to return back for another bowl of yummy ramen and to slurp down the entire bowl of yummy broth! π²π·
Ordered Black Tonkatsu Ramen with wavy noodles. Well present. Noodles and chashu were well cooked. Black mushroom gave a crunchy texture while eating with the ramen. Really like the black garlic oil mixing with the broth. Had a soft egg and it just melt in the mouth. Exception was the bean sprouts - prefer cooked than raw and less amount of them.
Came here for lunch and I like that it is more spacious than the kinton nearby. You pick the noodles (straight or wavy) and add toppings. There is no soup base to pick from or type of meat. I had the wavy noodles with I found were nice and chewy with that good bite. I also ordered an egg on top and it was perfectly soft boiled! I found the pork too charred though. Overall, it was still a good boil of ramen.
