I've been here twice now. Once when they first opened and then I went about a month ago. The first time the service was great and the second time service was crap. But the food is amazing. The Calzone is good defiantly not your average pizza pizza calzone lol. Best Eggplant parm i've ever had. Also don't forget to have a gelato after dinner :)
So, pizza is my favourite food group and this is the best pizza I've ever had. They import three things from Italy: the tomatoes, the pizza flour, and the employees. The tomatoes are a no-brainer given the flavourless ones we get here. Apparently the flour is one of the things that makes the pizza so good. Who knew, but kudos to them for going to the trouble and expense. The people were very friendly and actually cared that we liked (loved) our meal. My only fault is the atmosphere: it's a big open space that would benefit from the creation of little enclaves rather than the cafeteria feel.
So. They have two other locations in Toronto, and both are wonderful. This is a great addition to the east end! We already have QMP and Libretto, but Via Mercanti brings a more well-rounded Italian experience to the hood. Lots of appetizers, pastas AND pizzas, a good wine list, and wonderful, genuinely enthusiastic service. Authentic Italian? Yes! We had a great meal here, finished with ice cold Limoncello, the way it should be :) We will return!
