Tasty burgers, great bun and house sauce, great yam fries, large portions, coleslaw is excellent. Friendly service. A little bit too noisy at the bar.
The food is absolutely great. The fried calamari is one of the best I've had in the city (I prefer grilled 😃 - but these fried calamari are great).
The service is typically slow (I've been there a few times at lunch time) so make sure to give yourself a bit of extra time. The meat deli/butcher offers a wonderful selection of items that you can purchase and enjoy at home.
The ambience is very enjoyable. The restaurant has very high ceilings with plenty of natural light which makes it experience feel very open and interactive. The furniture are new, modernish and very clean. Overall a very enjoyable and relaxed experience.
Great Serbian BBQ with a bottle of wine. Got the Meat Platter 1 for "2-4 people" which is accurate. We were a party of 2 and took home a good amount as 1 isn't a big eater. If you're not after a big $70 platter, try the Royal Cannon, Sausage, or Chevaps. All unique and were the most memorable parts to the platter. I'll be back for sure.
Once in a while when I'm craving a big fat juicy burger I'll head over to Royal Meats. Â Although a little on the pricey side, the burger huge and is always cooked well. Â The quality of the meat is definitely noticeable. If you are feel like a good quality burger Royal meats is the place to go.
An upper class restaurant with delicious burgers and they have a wide variety of meats for purchase as well. It is a great Serbian run joint with tasty food and deserts.
The new and improved royal meats is awesome. The food is great and give a true representation of Serbian cuisine. The portions are amazing, service is always phenomenal and the appearance of the new Reno is beautiful! My only negative feedback is that they lost a bit of their ethnicity in this renovation and it does not feel as Serbian anymore, kind of like another jack astors. However i guess that way they get more business.
Royal Meats Barbecue is a place that is undergoing some pretty sick renovations.
The place itself used to be pretty small, but has upgraded into this cool hip sports bar that will be opening a patio to go along with the good food that they have right now. The place specializes in meats of all kind, but seems to be centered on the steak.
I had the steak on a bun, which was a blessing and a curse. The steak meat itself was fantastic. The seasoning was well done and the meat, though cooked a bit more than I liked, still had a great taste. The bad part is that it's served on a hoagie roll that doesn't do it justice. Impossible to eat a good steak between bread. I ended up just knife and forking it like an OG.
The place is pretty sweet and they got lookers for servers to boot. The menu is rather large, and though prices are a tad high for lunch, it's probably a pretty kickass place to go for dinner and to watch the game.
If you like meat, this is the place for you. The most popular menu item would be their Cevapi, which is a Croatian sausage similar to the size of breakfast sausage. The sausages are either beef and lamb or pork and veal.
Both were grilled to perfection and complemented the bread and cheese spread it was served with. The chicken was similar to a schnitzel and the tartar sauce it came with worked well together. My only comment would be that the both meats and the grilled vegetables we ordered were a bit on the saltier side. Someone was very heavy handed in the kitchen that night.
Overall, the service was great and the ambience was very comfortable.
Nelson @RoyalMeats: A unique European style "burger" joint that makes you feel like you are at the butcher. You can see how fresh the meat is as you select it from the appetizing display and watch as they cook it on the spot. These are the chevaps ($8.95 for small) burger which I don't think I've ever seen anywhere else. The pork and veal meat make for a taste that is different from every other burger joint and is a refreshing change a pace. The other unique part is the cheese that is a peppery kaymak. All of this served on a Lepinya bun. The only downside is that this breaks apart quite readily making it difficult to eat. Otherwise it's delicious.

veal. The meat tastes different from ground beef as it's lighter with
some more spices than usual. Not sure how she got what appears to be
crumbled bacon as one of the toppings, but good for her. Maybe this one
is easier to eat as it'll stay together more easily.
I wonder if this place will become more popular now that they have a
downtown location. I hope they do well as they bring something unique
to the fast food table.
Great place to take your friends and family. Went on easter Sunday and they were open. My mother thought it was taking a while but I didn't and food is definitely worth any wait. Half pound burger is usually what I get but the Kaymak is great to add in there. Everything else on the menu is excellent you can even order for a very large amount of people. HUGE PORTIONS
Awesome burger. Excellent burger, great fries, and lovely salad. The burger and fries were cooked to perfection. The toppings were nice and fresh - try the red pepper feta spread, it is delicious. The bun is awesome as it isn't too doughy and it holds the burger all the way to the end. I recommend you give it a try for yourself.
I LOVE LOVE the food here. Did I mention I love this place? There is nothing on the menu I don't like.
All the meat is displayed fresh under a glass case. Nothing frozen or re-heated here.
Those breaded veal rolls with the cream cheese... Deadly (you need to forget about counting calories for this)! The kabobs are delicately seasoned and are all good.
I always order way too much so I have leftovers to bring home. Great place to go when you are craving MEAT. Serbian fare at its finest.
I love this place, everything is great and now that they deliver I order all the time. Royal Meats dinner on the couch and a movie with the wife, it doesnt get much better then that.
Enjoyed the burger and salad. Fresh with decent meat....watch out for their special sauce as it is tastey but very salty. The group I was with had a mix of Steak Sand. chicken and burgers...all were pleased with their food....was a bit breezy on the patio that day tho. Next step a patio heater maybe.
Still my fave. I've been going here for years and although a few friends may not share the same sentiment (as my all time favorite), none have ever disliked this place and are always willing to join me when I suggest Royal Meats for lunch or dinner!
It may be argued that they don't sell "burgers" as much as "sandwiches" due to the bun. But whatever you call it, to me nothing can beat the moistness of the patty, the flavor and texture of their special Kajmak (Serbian) cheese spread really puts this place over the top for me.
I always find it difficult to decide whether I want the sweet potato fries, or the salad - both are consistently great choices! (I try to convince whoever I go with to order the fries while I get the salad, and then share) :)
I've been saying "for me" a lot in this review because in all honesty, the people i've brought to this place haven't all loved it as much as I do, as I mentioned. So I don't want to get everyone's expectations high, esp if your'e expecting a Burgers' Priest style burger. Plus the meals do cost a pretty penny, but i'm always willing to dish it out here!
Upscale family owned fast food. Royal Meats Barbeque is a cut above most fast food stores. My spouse and I were in Etobicoke, so we went out of curiosity to try the chevaps, the Serbian special sausage.
The interior is bright, modern and clean. On a warm August evening, we sat out on the patio, noticing the custom-made chairs and well-appointed exterior with matching logo.
The chevap was an interesting sausage, grilled and low on grease. We ordered the 1 lb. version to split between the two of us, plus a small garden salad. (At 8 p.m., the server said that they were out of the fruit and almost salad). Four chevap sauages were served on a wide and thin bun that might also have a Serbian heritage. These were garnished as we liked, with pickle, tomato and salad, on a nice square plate. We were surprised to have the small salad served in handfuls from the same garnish bar. The small salad filled the large plate, and salad dressings were chosen from the Kraft pouches at the counter.
The onion rings were homemade. Unfortunately, they seemed to be slightly undercooked so that the batter inside was on the soft side.
The waitresses are dressed in matching uniforms (with a unique scarf over their hair). They were efficient and helpful.
For people who prefer local businesses to chains, Royal Meats Barbeque fills the bill. It's remarkable that so much effort has gone into the building design and uniforms for a single store. Perhaps they could be a success story someday, and will replicate the look.
We didn't try the burgers, just the chevaps. We enjoyed these, and those more frequent to the area would probably find more competition on hamburgers. Still, our food was prepared to order (with maybe 5 to 8 minutes passing until our buzzer called us in for pickup) and tasted handmade.
At the corner of Kipling Avenue and N. Queen Street, there isn't much scenery outside. We faced the industrial shop across the street.
We enjoyed our casual meal at Royal Meats Barbeque. Our joint judgement was that we wouldn't drive across town to go there again, but will remember it if we're in the neighbourhood again.
Where's The Beef T.O.
+4.5
Royal is "Elite Meat" on my burger blog. This place is different and that is the biggest reason I love it. First check out their website. I laughed when I first clicked on it but love the game and the over the top video about Royal Meats.
Now to the actual place and burgers. When you first walk in you will see a display fridge. In it is all the meats you can choose form. They will take the patty you pick and grill it in front of you. Where else can you pick your patty. This also shows you how it is fresh meat.
They have 2 burgers to choose from. the half and full pound royal burger. 1lb of burger is a lot so you can pass on the sides. Who needs fries they just get in the way. Most of the big burgers you find are more about the thrill of eating a lot of food but this is a quality meaty burger. It is not the best burger but high on the list.
So Royal Meats is not the best at anything. THey are very good at everything and different. For breaking free of the boutique and fast food stereotypes I give you an Elite rating. It is about time someone did something different.
Best burger in the city. Expensive but you get what you pay for. A combo is only $5 more than a big Mac at mcdicks so it really isn't that bad.
Generously-portioned burgers with a Serbian twist (like chevaps, a sausage-like roll containing beef, pork and spices). Don't go in expecting Apache Burger or North American greasy-spoon grill fare, and you'll be fine. Staff typically friendy but can get frazzled at peak times; clean, contemporary decor is a step above the traditional burger joint.
I love their 1 lbs hamburger - great burger and bun. I wish they had better onion rings and offered either Coke or Pepsi - I was not crazy about paying $5.00 for an Italian soft drink. The bill might be steep $50.00 for a family of four but the burgers were great. A+
Authentic Char Grill BBQ!. Not sure what the other poster was smoking..
This isn't a "BBQ" as in BBQ Sauce joint, it's a BBQ as in good BURGER joint.
Quality product, and quality food, the price reflects it. Nice spot, I would go there again for sure.
I have entered burger heaven. Forget everything I've ever said about any other burger place. I don't think I'll ever be able to enjoy a burger anywhere else. My first RM burger was perfectly cooked and seasoned. The bun, soft and not overwhelming for the meat. No fancy toppings here. Just the necessary. I will definitely be back!
Not only can you enjoy their cooked meats at the restaurant, you can bring home their uncooked meat to enjoy at home! The seats on the patio weren’t the most comfortable. Two flastscreens were mounted outside for entertainment while we waited for our food.
The restaurant serves food made fresh from the butcher shop that range from the well known like salads and burgers to the obscure like Chevaps and Karadordeva.
[The burger] tastes more like a sausage flattened into a patty shape than a hamburger, but it’s definitely satisfying for what it is.
This fancy burger place in Etobicoke is really unique. First their store is beautiful, with the counter made up of a display of all the refridgerated raw meats. It looks great behind the glass, if you are a meat lover. It's a Serb
My brother suggested we try this restaurant for my birthday dinner, not only are they a restaurant but they are also butchers! It’s easy to find with plenty of parking spaces. They have a decent indoor dining area and on the patio. We were only inside for a brief moment because we decided to sit on the patio. I also caught a glimpse of their selection of raw meats at the counter. Not only can you enjoy their cooked meats at the restaurant, you can bring home their uncooked meat to enjoy at home! The seats on the patio weren’t the most comfortable. Two flastscreens were mounted outside for entertainment while we waited for our food.  We decided to order a meat platter and a salad to share. The platter came with delicious, airy bread called lepinya buns, a royal burger, chicken breast, pork shish kabobs, smoked sausage and chevaps. It also came with a few sauces and they were phenomenal. We also got a calamari salad. The calamari was crispy and tender, it went well with the fresh salad. You’d think four adults would be able to finish this meal, but we weren’t even close. There was so much meat, it filled us up pretty quickly. I gladly ate the leftovers the next day, everything was so well-seasoned. When I come back, I’ll try their seafood selection.
