The pork belly ramen is to die for! I'm of course not a vegetarian but a friend ordered the veg ramen and it was quite good. Big fan of the matcha and black sesame ice cream as well. Will keep coming here!
Mobbed! Speaks for itself, people love ramen. Great broth, pork belly and noodles that keep you going till mid nite. No wonder students come here when cramming for exams!
How good is it to be back in Toronto? All the eating. Yay! One of my first meals on my second round was Kinton Ramen on Church Street. Last Sunday was Pride parade of course, and I came across this store on my stroll back southwards. It’s also right next to one of my favourites from my last trip, Kinka Izakaya. Does Kinton Ramen match the greatness of its neighbour? Read on and find out!
A very decent ramen place in downtown. I ordered the pork miso ramen - portion was good, broth was rich, chashu was very flavorful but could be more tender. The option of chicken ramen is also an interesting addition for those who cannot stomach all the pork. Sides come at a reasonable cost and there is a variety of tasty appetizers that can also be turned into a combo. The staff shouts at you izakaya-style when you enter and exit the restaurant. Inside it's spacious and clean and the wait staff was super friendly and attentive. Overall would highly recommend.
I learned about Kinton Ramen from the show You Gotta Eat Here. It looked delicious so we decided to give it a try during our short trip to Toronto. They had a deal for $19 for a three course meal so I made sure to try it. If you just order ramen in cost from $10-12. The staff shout something in Japanese when a guest enters or leaves the restaurant which keeps it lively and interactive in the restaurant. The ramen restaurant on Church street is for smaller groups (tables are for 2-3 people) but they have a sister restaurant next door for big groups.First course was karage and gyoza. Karage is the fried chicken in a ball which was crispy and juicy. The gyoza was fried and just as tasty. I chose the pork miso ramen. Ramen comes in a large bowl and servings are very generous. I could not finish the bowl. The broth was flavourful. If you finish a bowl, the staff asks if they have a picture taken with you and the empty bowl to post on their Instagram. I thought that was fun. Almost the entire staff takes one photo with you and they do funny poses. For dessert, I had green tea matcha cheesecake which was light and not too sweet. I'd go back again and try their other dishes.
I really enjoyed the ramen here & have recommended it to friends. I ordered the vegetarian ramen, which is rarely done right ,and it turned out to fulfill every expectation I had of it.
Kinton Ramen is a popular chain of ramen restaurants with five locations in Ontario. They recently opened their fifth location adjacent to Kinka Izakaya on Church St. I was invited to a media tasting earlier last month, and had the chance to try an appetizer and ramen of my choice with a friend. I have been to Kinton Ramen several times before the media tasting, so I was pretty well aware of their food. What I enjoy about Kinton Ramen is their consistency of their food products, and portion sizes. The fifth location of Kinton Ramen features their signature block designs with high table-top and wooden tables. However, in contrast to some of the other locations, this location has large windows that allow natural light to shine into the restaurant.

Kinton Ramen allows the diners to customize their bowl of their ramen to their liking by providing various options. It's great as people do have different preferences and tastes.
Step 1 (broth) - select from pork ramen or chicken ramen
Step 2 (flavour) - choose from original, shoyu, miso, spicy garlic, or extra pork
Step 3 (noodle) - choose from thick or thin
Step 4 (meat) - choose from pork or chicken (additional meat is +$2.50)
Step 5 (additional toppings) - choose from a variety of toppings such as sweet corn, nori, seaweed, scallions, Swiss cheese, and more.
I opted for their Original Pork Ramen ($10.99) - sea salt, bean sprouts, scallions, nori, seasoned egg with corn (+$1) and seaweed (+$1). This is my usual ramen order whenever I eat at Kinton Ramen, as I do like lighter broths. The broth is also rich in collagen, and one can order it light, regular, or rich. Aside from the broth, I believe that the pork belly is also an important component of a bowl of ramen. The pork belly here was slightly blowtorch to give it a nice charred finish. Overall, it was a very satisfying bowl of ramen on the cool evening.
Back when Kinka Izakaya first opened, waiting an hour or two for a table was a regular part of dinner. While in line, people often ducked into the small store next door to grab a bite to tide them over. Now, Kinka’s neighbour has turned into a draw of it’s own, the 5th location of Kinton Ramen. I was invited to drop by the latest franchise addition to slurp up a bowl of noodles.
"Sipping on Calpico (light in colour, flavour and sweetness), we felt submerged in Japanese culture. Also, their homemade lemonade was thirst drenching, with lemon fibre floating, it was a simple yet impressive drink."“The egg addition to both dishes was our best decision that day – it was done medium and upon biting, some of it coloured the soup. As per the waitresses’ suggestion, we had a side of cheese. It was graded, Swiss cheese with a slightly bitter undertone which made the dish a bit more wholesome, as the chicken breast was quite lean. The slice of meat was, none-the-less, tender and light."
Just a few bites from our full experience..
Kinton Ramen is an OG when it comes to ramen in Toronto. This is the 5th location in Toronto, and it continues to live up to its name – sleek décor, vibrant atmosphere, friendly staff and BIG bowls of piping hot, fresh, flavourful ramen!. The menu concept is simple. You choose your broth (chicken or pork), flavour, noodle (thick or think), and additional toppings. There are a number of side dishes and beverages you can add to accompany your meal.
Making my way through the Kinka family of restaurants, I was invited to Kinton Ramen 5. Never having ramen at a restaurant, I thought it was just soup. Well....I was quote wrong. . This location is BUSY! Go early! Like the Kinka Izikaya locations, you are greeted by all of the staff when you arrive and when you leave. Noise level is loud, but you get used to it. Made me want to yell something too! We grabbed seats at the bar and got some delicious Sapporo. I ordered Gyoza to start and the Original Pork Ramen with thick noodles and the seasoned egg. My friend got the Hot Karaage and Spicy Garlic Pork Ramen with thick noodles and the seasoned egg.
Its menu is identical to the other restaurants but there are some slight differences in the food’s preparation. For example, at Kinton 5 some pieces of their original karaage ($5.90) have the skin left on so that the deep fried chicken is even moister and an addition crackling crunch. Any flour coating the chicken is minimal making the appetizer lighter than the versions I’ve tried at Kinton 4 and Kinka.
Be careful when biting into the takoyaki ($4.50) … it’s HOT! As the steam settles, you can see the octopus pieces mixed into the glutinous dough of the deep fried nuggets. Its consistency is more fluid than you’d expect, but it’s not off putting and almost reminds me of a stickier deep fried turnip cake.
Having had a good experience with the spicy garlic pork noodles, I decided to try the other flavour amped offering: the spicy jalapeno chicken ramen ($11.90). The heat, stemming
I ordered the Spicy garlic Pork ramen with thin noodles and extra veg. It was so good! The broth was great, but not the best ramen broth I've had. The pork belly and shoulder were unbelievable. I also liked the texture and taste of the noodles. Amazing meal, will definitely return.

There’s definitely no shortage of ramen restaurants in Toronto. Among the galore of authentic Japanese ramen shops in Toronto, KINTON RAMEN (Facebook: KINTON RAMEN / Twitter: KintonRamen / Instagram: kintonramen) currently holds the most locations in the downtown core with their 1st location that opened in 2013 and now with their 5th location that just recently opened. KINTON RAMEN 5 is located beside Kinka Izakaya (formerly Guu Izakaya) on Church Street.
On Wednesday, I was invited to a tasting at Kinton Ramen’s 5th location on Church Street. We were allowed to have a full bull of ramen with 2 additional toppings, an appetizer and a drink. I’ve been to Kinton many times but I’ve never actually tried the Miso broth so I did the Pork Miso with pork, thin noodles and added a seasoned egg and vegetables. The broth was rich and garlicy but not too salty and a nice variation from the original pork.
The Hot Karaage was Spicy Fried Chicken that was a deep red colour due to the spices. Even though it looked super hot and spicy, it wasn’t that spicy at all. It was a dish of tremendously tender and chunky chicken pieces covered with the spicy sauce. It was so good!! I now have a new favourite tapa at Kinton Ramen! I always used to love and order their Tofu Furai (an amazing tofu nugget dish), but now I know on my next visit, I will have to order this Hot Karaage too. It was simply too delicious!
The welcome was really warm and the food was great. Classic ramen with really good rich flavour. Service was quick. Great for a night out with a friend.
