Excellent bagels & friendly environment. My kids love it,specially with cream cheese!
Best bagels outside of Montreal and affordable enough to keep you addicted.
Wonderful bagels and friendly owners! This place has the best bagels I have had outside of Montreal. I love their everything bagels and their multigrain. I’m still curious to try their coconut bagel. I also love that they brew kicking horse coffee.
I consider myself somewhat of a bagel connoisseur.....I've tried all different kinds from New York style, to Montreal Bagels, flat bagels, Gryfe bagels, you name it.....I've been all across the GTA trying the different varieties of bagel flavors and spreads to top it with.
I must say, Bagels on Fire has some of the best bagels in this city. They are Montreal style bagels, as they are baked in a wood burning oven, which gives them an extremely crunchy and delicious taste. The staff is friendly and their prices are standard.
If you are in the beaches I would highly recommend.
The best Montreal style bagels outside on Montreal. Chewy, sweet, and addicting. My personal fave is the salmon lox sandwich on an onion bagel. Try the coconut bagel, so different!
Stirring familiar feelings of smokey backwoods campfires and warm, doughy treats – Bagels On Fire is our newest obsession. Nestled in the gorgeous beaches neighbourhood of Toronto, this quaint bagel shop draws in all kinds of diners with their delicious Montreal-style bagels cooked fresh and infused with an earthy wood fire flavour. A friendly and welcoming mom-and-pop shop, Bagels On Fire was opened in July 2013 by a young married couple from the Philippines. Since then, they have been living their dream of owning a successful business and carrying on the entrepreneurial tradition of their family back home. With previous experience in other bagel shops, they chose a business they knew and put their fresh spin on the popular Montreal favourite.
Putting together these flavoursome creations takes effort, and all bagels are hand-rolled and baked fresh twice daily during the week and as needed on weekends. To start, the dough is hand-rolled and boiled in honey water to add a little sweetness and chewiness to this breakfast favourite. Then they’re baked to perfection in a huge wood-fire brick oven, adding the subtle smokey flavour that sets them apart. Speaking of flavour, there are nine to choose from when it comes to cream cheese at Bagels On Fire. All cream cheese is flavoured in-house and includes basil, chilli cilantro, and black olive. If you can’t get enough, you can take home your own tub of cream cheese, with all nine options available for purchase in-store, along with a mouth-watering selection of deli meats. What really sets Bagels on Fire apart from their competitors, however, is the all-natural, preservative-free ingredients found in each bagel creation.
Our visit last Wednesday started out with a simple but popular breakfast option — bacon and cheddar topped with fried egg and spiced with black pepper, served messy on a sesame seed bagel. Feeling adventurous? Top it off with a dollop of mayo or order yours with ham instead of bacon. This perfectly seasoned sandwich makes this option a breakfast of champions.
Next, we had a craving for a hearty lunch meal, so the folks at Bagels on Fire whipped us up one of their most-requested items — a Montreal smoked meat sandwich in a particularly original style, which coincidentally isn’t listed on the menu. This bagel comes fully loaded with tender meat, banana peppers, lettuce, tomato, Swiss cheese, mustard, mayo and, believe it or not, capers. We told you it was original. But it’s the onion bagel that completes this exclusive neighbourhood favourite. Combined with the smoky flavouring from the oven, the onion adds an amazing charred flavour that won’t overwhelm your tastebuds. If you’d like to try it yourself, just ask for your Montreal smoked meat sandwich to come all-dressed. It’s a savoury, spicy, tangy indulgence you’ll find yourself coming back for.
After our lunch, we were blown away with this local joints most popular item — the coconut bagel. Who knew that a bagel place could serve dessert? The shredded coconut on top is lightly toasted and adds a nice crispy texture — perfect for someone looking for something sweet in the morning. Toast it with butter or add some of their delicious cream cheese for a light snack that’s slightly different. Whichever way you slice it, we guarantee you’ll be taking home a dozen or two to share with your family and friends.
The past year has been a blessed one for Bagels on Fire. The 15-hour days and overflow of neighbourhood support have made it a popular Beaches favourite among the locals. And if their doughy delicacies are any indication, Bagels on Fire has many more years of success ahead of them.
I'm going to give a four out of five as I'm not sure what else is out there in Toronto just yet. I will say that I was very happy with my everything bagel this morning, covered in fresh, chive cream cheese. Perhaps it was on the smaller side but quality was top notch. The lady at the counter was more than friendly, they seem to have a plethora of bagel sandwiches, though I was just in the mood for something traditional and close to home! If I find myself in the Beaches anytime soon, I'll be sure to pop in for another!
