This Ed's outlet in Leslieville on Queen just East of Logan is a neighbourhood favourite serving a great selection of the pictured gelati and ice creams. A few tables inside and a few chairs outside provide temporary accommodation for those wishing to eat on the spot. Packaged frozen selections are also available.
Love this ice cream shop. Huge selection if ice cream flavours as well as gelato! Their waffle cones are huge and made on-site. Very friendly staff and you can taste test the flavours. We ordered the chocolate peanut butter ice cream on a sugar cone and bacio and pistachio gelato in a regular size cup! So enjoyable on a nice hot summer day!
This is a nice little place to get very good ice-cream. They have a wide and interesting selection of flavors. We were four people and we all enjoyed our selection. You can sit inside but, there is only handful of seats.
I have never had such amazing raspberry sorbet! My wife raved about the pumpkin gelato and my kids asked to come back every day. This is a new favourite for us.
BURNT MARSHMALLOW FLAVOURED ICE CREAM. I REPEAT. BURNT MARSHMALLOW FLAVOURED ICE CREAM. Everyone go and try this right now. i asked the staff what's the most popular flavour and i now understand why. it tastes like summer. Great little ice cream shop with a friendly and patient staff (i tried a few samples and asked a bunch of questions and they were super polite and enthusiastic). The other flavour i ended up ordering was the Blueberry Cheesecake which was also amazing, but the Burnt Marshmallow will keep me coming back for more. They give you one topping for free and i got the toffee bits which added to the overall epicness.
A cool little place with lots of different flavours of ice cream and gelato. They give you a free topping with your ice cream which is a nice touch. In the end though, it's ice cream and I find that it's hard to differentiate one store from another. Don't get me wrong, this was good ice cream.
Felt a bit rushed by the server. There was a line up behind us, but on a Sunday afternoon, there isn't a need to be rushed.
There's a reason why everyone says this is the best ice cream in Toronto. Tons of flavours of yogurt, ice cream, and gelato; toppings (like gummy bears, red berries, Oreo crumbs, etc.) and two flavours per cup. I would recommend lime in coconut or strawberry rhubarb. Ice cream is the perfect consistency - not too soft but very creamy and doesn't melt too quickly.
Super friendly staff. There's plenty of ice cream flavours to look at. If you're not sure what flavour to get, just ask for a sample. They have a dedicated fridge just for the small tubs of ice cream. If they don't have the flavour you want, no problem they'll set it up for you. I usually get a small tub of ice cream each time I visit. Burnt Marshmellow is my fave. They opened another location in the Roncesvalles area
What is really not to love about Ed's real scoop?! The variety and flavors are unique and all very delicious. The staff are uber happy dishing out the frozen treat. Must try. Worth a travel to go
And get.
Burnt marshmallow & French mint ice cream :)
Their callebaut milk chocolate is quite possibly my favourite ice cream ever!
Best ice cream in the city. Ask for a regular size half scoop in a waffle cone. You only have to pay for the size and not for the two flavours. So many great homemade flavours of ice cream and gelato from the classics to crazy like maple bacon. The portions are generously sized and the waffle cones have a marshmallow in the bottom which tastes and even functions well lol The lines can be long on nice summer days/ nights but it's worth the wait
Mmm spicy. Yes, spicy...
I couldn't decide what flavour I wanted so the server told me she could do a half scoop of each - yay! So I had the maple Bacon ice cream and hot chile chocolate gelato in a sugar cone.
The chili chocolate was exactly what I expected and wanted! Great flavour! The maple bacon was good too, but the maple was very subtle...might've been overpowered by the chili on the other side.
Burnt marshmallow ice cream on a waffle cone is the definitive taste of summer. If you haven't had it yet, you really need to make the trip.
Here's the scoop... Faves: the Mercury Espresso flavoured ice-cream and Red Hot Chile Chocolate gelato.
Hot pepper fudge gelato. Mmmmm.
Mango Gelato!. The yummiest! Super rich and creamy and no dairy.
Fantastic!
Waaaayy too busy. All the time.
I'm in love.. They have REAL banana gelato -- actually made from bananas!
Just tried the white chocolate raspberry ice cream tonight and I'm officially in love.
This place is a fantastic addition to the neighbourhood.
Ed's Real Scoop is a bit of a rarity in Toronto. I can't think of any other business with two successful outlets, both located on Queen Street east of the Don Valley. The original Ed's is in the Beach (or Beaches,,, there are two schools of thought) at 2224 Queen East. There is a real "Ed", whose name is Ed Francis, and he started his business selling his own homemade ice cream and chocolates. A few years ago, when Leslieville started to heat up as a food destination, Ed's opened a second location at 920 Queen East, and it's become a neighbourhood mainstay. There's a little ritual: you enter the lineup on the left, then order, then pay. There are a few seats inside, but people mainly linger on the sidewalk around the front door, or simply stroll along Queen with their treats.Tastes are free. The shop sells both regular ice cream and gelato. (My nutritionist informs me that gelato is a – slightly – wiser nutrition choice.) Here's the gelato cabinet. Tara, my nine-year-old niece, both im
Both flavors were delicious. I find that the burnt marshmallow tasted a bit like caramel; the flavour was strong, it was sweet, yet a bit bitter at the same time, I loved it!
After having a not so pleasant brunch at Bonjour Brioche down the street, I needed a little pick-me-up and I had heard great things about Ed's Real Scoop. I was particularly curious about trying their "red hot chili chocolate" flavored ice cream. From the moment we walked in, we were engulfed with the scent of fresh sweet bread, a welcoming smile from the girl behind the counter, and fun 50s music playing in the background. Yep, this is exactly what I needed! I felt better already!
I had read several reviews prior to visiting Ed's and several of these reviews mentioned the red hot chili chocolate ice cream. When I took my first bite, all I tasted was dark chocolate. It was only after I swallowed it that I felt the impact of the chili. I felt a slight burn on my throat, but not in a bad way. It was interesting. But unless you are a lover of dark chocolate, the chili effect will not be sufficient. I am not a huge fan of chocolate, so I was hoping for a little more chili impact. The second flavor I got was pistachio. When I visited Sicily I ate a lot of pistachio gelato, and in my opinion Sicily makes the best pistachio gelato in the world. Since I returned home I have been searching for a comparable alternative, and thus far I have not been able to find one. Nevertheless, this pistachio version was sweet, smooth and creamy. A perfect contract to the spicyness of the chili and bitter dark chocolate.
They make their own waffle cones. At the tip of each waffle cone they place a tiny marshmallow. At first I did not know why, then I learned that it is to seal the end of the cone so that the ice cream does not seep through. Being a big kid myself, I ate through the cone in lightning speed just to get to the marshmallow in the end.
Our experience at Ed's Real Scoop was a wonderful one. The lovely girl behind the counter from the moment we walked in offered us the option of trying any flavor we wanted. We tried several and not once did we feel like we were annoying her or trying too many flavors. She was attentive and very warm and when we ordered our scoops, she worked hard to pile on as much ice cream as she could onto the cone, and stuffed Regina's cup until it was nice and compact. I do recommend that you consider sharing your scoop, since there was plenty in one scoop for two people.
Ed's Real Scoop has been around for 13 years with two locations: one in Leslieville (the one I went to) and the other at the Beaches (the original location). All their ice cream, sorbet, frozen yogurt, and gelato are homemade. They even make chocolates, hot fudge and caramel sauces, candies, sundaes, floats, milkshakes, espresso shakes and affogato. Aside from their extensive list of offerings, what's also great about Ed's Real Scoop is that they are always trying new recipes with store made products changing daily, reflecting seasonal themes and flavours. When its summer, go in for a tasty waffle cone filled with your favourite ice cream, gelato or sorbet and for winter, enjoy a steamy cup of hot chocolate made from Belgian Callebaut chocolate.
Some seasonal flavours include strawberry rhubarb, PB and Jelly, lemon meringue, carrot cake ice cream and caramel swirl cheesecake.
I went for the burnt marshmallow and blueberry pie - two scoops in a cup with the burnt marshmallow underneath the blueberry pie.
Both flavours were absolutely divine. Thee burnt marshmallow reminded me of caramel - strong, sweet, yet a bit bitter all at the same time...Ioved it. The blueberry pie was creamy and tasty too with flavours of real blueberries.
