Really like the ambience and the decor. The place is fun, to hang out with friends at. Open till late. Service is really good and the staff is really nice. Perfect place to go after tiring day at work.
First review on Zomato; here we go!
I was in Liberty Village today and was looking for a quick lunch. Reaching out to a trusted foodie friend lead to the suggestion of the Local Public Eatery; he highly recommended the fish tacos.
PARKING
With a large public parking lot (Green P) located to West directly across the street I was from my car to the front door in less than a minute.
SEATING
I was not met by a host/hostess at the front door which may be commonplace for lunch. However, as a solo eater it wasn't an issue as I saddled up to a free seat at the bar. Other patrons who arrived after me were advised to grab a seat at any open table so they likely have someone eyeing the door on the regular.
ATMOSPHERE
The casual setting of this bar/pub/eatery was very appealing to me. Lots of wood and rustic styling that just made me feel comfortable. This place feels like a great spot to have a pint with friends. Plenty of TVs mostly on sports stations was right up my alley. I thoroughly enjoyed watching the top 100 plays in baseball from the following year.
SERVICE
A sign which rotates through specials and draft selections on tap lead me to order one of my preferred wheat beers: Muskoka Brewery - SUMMERWEISS ($6.50).
The bartender/server was very pleasant and was quick to answer my questions about the menu. I inquired about the fish tacos as my friend suggested. However, the fish they use is Basa which I don't prefer; so I choose my own adventure.
I elected to try the Crispy Chicken Sandwich served on a Portuguese bun, garnished with coleslaw and topped with BBQ mustard ($14.75). The food arrived within 10 minutes which kept me on pace for a quick lunch. The batter on this sandwich was like none I had ever seen. The crispy coating was flaky both in appearance and texture; it was fascinating and incredibly tasty. The server advised there are secrets which cannot be disclosed with respect to the creation of this sandwich. However, with a bit of gentle pressure, it was determined to be a beer batter seasons with Mason Salt. I'm not familiar with this salt and quick google search suggests that it's typically a fancy finishing salt renowned for its shape and texture. The bun, the batter, the coleslaw, the mustard, the salt? Who knows how it all works together; it just does! The only shortcoming with this sandwich is the size... IT'S HUGE! A side of yam fries and garlic aioli was a perfect accompaniment.
PRICING
A sandwich and beer was ~$25 after tax (before tip). I don't eat too much in the city, but I suspect this is an average price point. I was not disappointed for the price I paid for lunch.
OVERALL
From the moment I walked in the door I felt comfortable with this place. Although there wasn't anyone to greet me at the door it seemed easy to find a seat. The service was exceptional and the conversation with my server was quite enjoyable. The beer was cold and the chicken sandwich was one to remember. It was delicious and more than enough food for lunch; I would happy to have it for dinner. The only problem one might have is trying to fit this thing in your mouth. The server gave me a fork and steak knife before the food showed up and it didn't take me long to realize why. I didn't use them, but I should have. Instead, more than a fair share of napkins were used.
For a pint and pub grub, this quick lunch sure hit the spot.
Out for dinner with a colleague on Wednesday evening, and I suggested we try Local Public Eatery in Liberty Village. I had been to the one in Calgary and Leaside, and I had liked them, and I liked this one too. Service was fast and friendly. The place was mostly full at 6 pm.
I ordered The Brooklyn Burger. I am a sucker for beer battered onion rings. The red pepper relish and 3 year old aged cheddar gave the burger a pleasant sweet and sour and salty twist. The Yam Fries on the side were perhaps a little bit overdone, but I liked it this way. It gave the fries a nice crispy coating.
had the chopped salad with chicken and it was delicious. Very light but also a very filling dish. their house dressing for this salad was very flavorful and well done.
Awesome lunch. Great space for lunch. Perfectly poured draft. Super service. The crispy chicken sandwich with extra bacon, cheddar, and jalepenos is a sandwich you simply have to experience once. Can't wait to go back. Bravo!
Had a chance to eat here when it wasn't as busy. Service was great. Had the nachos, perogies and fried chicken sandwich. Everything tasted great. Definitely would go back there again.
The fish tacos and guacamole were absolutely delish. Khartoum fight my wife for the last taco they were so good. The gauc was made fresh at table side which added a real gourmet flare. The grapefruit radler on tap from Waterloo and the cool patio capped the Resto as an excellent relax and enjoy joint.
The local in liberty village is a usual of mine, whether a beer after work on a weekday, a fall back for brunch on a Sunday or a place to start on a Friday; it’s always a good time, coupled with the ambiance and welcoming nature of the staff which simply add to the appeal.
Nachos are very different from your average but they are out of this world with beans and pulled chicken on fresh nacho chips. A half order of nachos and their hot wings are our favourites!!
Great food and cheapppp drinks! The location is nice and the patio is gorgeous. I would definitely come back to try their other menu items and take a few more $6 shots.
I had originally visited (and enjoyed) the Local Public Eatery in Ottawa. When I found out there was a Toronto location, naturally I had to visit (and enjoy)! The Szechuan edamame ($5.50) is a nice twist on an old time favourite. Their fish taco ($5 each) is hearty and delicious - one of my fav tacos ever. We also enjoyed the atmosphere, the drinks, and the games. Recommended!
Great selection of beers at this restaurant. I loved the outdoor patio on the third floor. It is perfect for a nice hot summer day. Great service.
Great vibe, good beer, awesome hospitality and the chicken sandwich was just downright delicious. A sweet place in Liberty to hang with a group of your closest chums and reminist about the good old days.
CHEERS 🍻
Love this place when you are able to get a seat. There usually is a long wait most nights in the summer because of their great patio and even during the winter there is often a wait but they have great brunch so come in the morning! Make sure to try some of their drinks in boots.
Visited Local on Thursday with a few friends and fell in love! Such a cool vibe, awesome interior and lots of interesting people. I ordered the Japense Gyoza (dumplings) in a sesame sauce and it was sooooooo good. I also ordered the Press It burger with fries and finished every last bite. The fries were super think and yummy (reminded me of McDonald's style fries) and the burger was juicy and delicious. Drinks were the best part, really affordable and yummy. I ordered the Sangria pitcher to share with a girlfriend and the wine ratio was high and it was delicious! Overall super cool place and I definitely plan to go back (tip: it gets busy so there might be a little wait time but it moves quick)
AWSOME food! Fish tacos were the best
Eating Local. Went here with my co-workers for lunch and it was phenomenal! There were 8 of us and we were seated on the patio right away. Our waitress was great, really friendly and knowledgeable. She recommended the burgers and tacos and all but one of us nabbed a burger. I had The Local and it did not disappoint. The burger on its own would've been awesome but the bun and toppings pulled it together perfectly. I opted for the salad which was good but the fries looked awesome (McDonald's fries size). We started with Guac/Salsa and chips and the guac was made right in front of us.
They have a great beer selection and decent deals throughout the week. I have a feeling we'll be ditching the brazen head and their crazy prices for The Local's value! Great new spot in Liberty village!
We had supper this evening at Local Public Eatery. Gord and I checked it out last month and enjoyed it. They have lots of craft beer and drink specials. Gord and I had beer and Sister Sarah had a couple Kung Fu Punches, which she liked. Gord and I both ordered the Crispy Chicken Sandwich. He had his coleslaw on the side and I didn't have any (I'm not a fan). Sister Sarah had a Deluxe burger ... she said it was good. I'll get one next time. Meghan was our server. She was friendly and took good care of us.
Gord and I had supper this evening at Local Public Eatery. It opened in late July and we've been wanting to check it out. It was fairly busy when we got there about 4:30pm. There weren't any tables available so we sat at the bar. There were lots of craft beer to choose from. We ordered supper. Gord ordered chicken and fish tacos. He said they were good. He also ordered Gyoza. He loved them! I ordered the Crispy Chicken Sandwich (without the coleslaw). The sandwich and fries were delicious and I'd order it again. I'm not a fan of onions or lettuce so took them off. Laura was our server (she was also a bartender) and she took good care of us. There was a fun vibe ... we'll be back!
