Very cute little place. We came here for a friends birthday and were seated in a private dining area. You can't go wrong with any of the items on their menu, especially their delicious homemade pasta!
Fantastic menu. I could quite easily order anything off the menu and be astounded. This place has been around for a long time and is truly a hidden gem.
Attending a meeting downtown was a perfect excuse for a lunch escape. Hello Mangia & Bevi. I told the owner that I found the place by accident. He says: "There are no accidents." He is correct. I did my little research before and Mangia & Bevi was just how I pictured/imagined it. It's a relaxed but busy place with the genuine italian signature. Being right next to the kitchen, I could see that the items served were a good balance between mainly pizzas and pasta dishes.
I had the Pizza Peculiare, the special of the day. It included mozarella, niagara salami, olives, and was topped with fresh greens as well as ricotta. Ricotta was a good addition to balance out the salty items. Of course an adult beverage was a necessity.
To top it off, I enjoyed the coolish bacetti, which is a lovely gelato bite covered by a thin coat of chocolate. They had different flavors and I stuck to the mocha flavor. It was too good and small that I ate it before taking a pic :)
It's a nice hideaway to keep in mind. It's one of those places where you have people from all kinds of professions, walks of life etc stop by. There were regulars which is what a good community hangout ought to be. Glad that I discovered it.
Hidden gem. I have been going regularly for years, usually for lunch. Doesn't look at all impressive from the main street entrance, but service friendly and attentive, atmosphere rustic and cozy, food selection very good. Nice wines by the glass. Daily specials are worth checking out, especially beef dishes, and very good value. I have had fantastic lamb chops (see photo), beef tenderloin, seared tuna - as good as anywhere I have ever eaten, including far more expensive upscale establishments. Very good selection of pizza and consistently good quality. Espressos, lattes, americanos also very good.
This restaurant is slightly hidden from the main street. The pasta here is great! I crave it every time I think about pasta. Excellent flavours! The pizzas are also delicious. Everyone always talks about Libretto and QM, but why queue up to those places when you can have better service and food at Mangia & Bevi?
The best pastas hands down! Always going back to the carbonara since the flavours and amount of sauce, pasta and pancetta are perfect! The staff is great and timely as well ! I've suggested it to many and they have high expectations that are fulfilled ! Very underrated restaurant, should be one of the best pastas in Toronto from what I've tried !
Ended up here randomly one winter evening. The staff was courteous and the food hit the spot. Both pizza and pasta were yummy. Glad we decided to check this place out.
My favorite Italian spot. The Carpaccio is by far one of my most favorite dishes here. They definitely don't skim on the truffle oil. The wine selection is nice and refreshing, and lunch menu changes with nice new additions. This is a a great spot to visit if you are in the area. Never had to wait more than 5 minutes to be seated.
Affumicata pasta is amazing! Service is attentive and personalized. Decor pretty unique. Relaxing and cozy atmosphere. Variety of hot sauce very interesting. Try it, you'll like it!
Outstanding. I was really surprised when I stuck my nose into this place for a little lunch today! everything about this place is excellent, food, service, ambiance... it reminds me of exceptional brasseries in Europe! Its worth it to go out of your way to get here! Pizza, pasta, salads, wine, all top notch, yet reasonable prices! delicious!
Great Pizzas. Awesome thin crust pizzas you cant find anywhere.
Great place!. Delicious pizza and loved the atmosphere! It was quiet but friendly- just how I like it. The staff was all so kind and happy to assist you. Quick service and great food! Went in on a Saturday night at 7pm and got a table ASAP. Great area too, nice to walk around. I travel for neapolitan pizza, and this place is great! I will definitely be returning.
Don't Hesitate. -Great pizza, friendly staff, tasty wine. Try it out! :-)
Can't wait to go back!. Excellent service, great food, fabulous ambiance. Oh did I mention I loved the food!
An absolute gem for Italian food lovers. My partner and I live around the corner so we have to restrain ourselves from being at this place every night.
This place is an absolute gem! Absolutely delicious, authentic food and CONSISTENT - which is difficult for most restaurants to achieve.
If you are trying this place for the first time, I highly suggest the Commendatori pasta or the Siciliana pizza. Prices are reasonable for Toronto and staff are always a pleasure. This is obviously a restaurant owned by people with passion and you can feel it!
Kudos to the Mangia and Bevi team!
Love the Pasta!!!!. Ok I have been coming to this place for a while now, usually on Sunday's because during the week there lunch crowd is bananas, and I know first because I work a couple floors up. My friends in the buidling usually call ahaed for there orders before lunch. Good Luck getting a seat fast.
But on Sunday's its calmer the atmosphere, the Italian music, the cute waitress. I'm in the entertainment business so I try to pop in Mangia e bevi when I can with friends.
So why am I writing this.
The PASTA. The pizza's are great too but this new Big Guy in the kitchen has been consistent and the weird shapes of the Pizza, and drenched in oil, threw me off, and my pals agree. At least Libretto explains that the Pizza's are soupy in the centre You need a knife and fork for the Pizza.
Im writing because our business gives them a lot of business cause there so convenient below us in the building and there food is great. I feel I owe it to them. But I am being bias and they did not pay me to write this. I am being genuine the owners seem really nice I belive there Siblings and thats amazing the 2 have been here i think 4 years. My self At least. I go down 3x a week I get the daily soup for $6 and there always delicious. I notice there are more Veg soups too, so more of my Veg friends go down more.
What do I reccomend if you go on the weekend the Pasta, and the ones I crave at home our, the Commendatore, Peschria, The 4 cheeze, Affumicato, Aglio Olio and the Polipo. Man the Polipo (Salad) has this sweet, garlic octopus I can't hardly decribe the taste but worth trying. In the past it was a little burnt, but again they now have a big Italian guy in the kitchen which is why I noticed a difference, I guess,
Real Authentic with great specials during the weekday lunch.
Anyway's a Pint, Octopus salad and a Pasta and all this from Real Classic Italian Food for under $30 its worth it.
Get the Commanditore Pasta!. I'm not a big pasta fan, and in fact I'm not huge on Italian food, but this pasta dish definitely made my Top-5 list! The portion size was perfect, and the taste and flavours - unforgettable! =) It was a cream-based pasta, with cheese, sausage bits (almost like Carbonara), BUT with the addition of spinach leaves and probably most importantly: PISTACHIO NUTS!!!!
When I told the waitress how much I loved it, she said that that dish was actually her fave pasta item on the menu as well.
Word of advise: the address of this place is 260 King East, but for some reason the main entrance to the restaurant is on Ontario St, about half a block north of King.
TRY IT!
Tasty, but on the expensive side. The side salad for my sandwich cost me $4.00 extra and all it was was some mixed greens in balsamic vinaigrette (with rock salt thrown into the salad, WTF??). On the whole, a good lunch. My BF got the Peperino pizza and I got the Caprese Panino, and we split it. His pizza was tasty- very much like pizza in Italy. The panino was good, but a little on the bland side. The espresso that I had at the end of the meal was good but had grounds in the bottom. Didn't knock my socks off, which was a little disappointing considering all of the positive reviews. Also should mention the restaurant is on the main floor of a building that is set about 40 feet back from the street. You pass through a parking lot to get in, and it's just a little way down the hall past the front doors. Panino was $7 (side salad $4), pizza was $14, lemon soda was $3.50 and espresso was $2.
WOW. What a great little bistro. Great food and absolutely amazing service. We walked in without a reservation on a Saturday at 6 and got seated even though I highly recommend reservations for the future. MUSTTRY - Tiramasu, and I normally cannot stand Tiramasu. Just a wonderful, homely place. Service is exceptional and food is great!
Excellent pizza. I've only eaten the pizza, but its very very good. I'd say top 3 in toronto, along with Libretto and Terroni.
Mangia & Bevi’s décor mixes exposed ducts and brick walls with plenty of artwork adorning the wall. A giant rattan ball light fixture beside the bar is particularly striking. If you don’t want to be disappointed, I suggest you reserve a table as during our Friday lunch visit the restaurant was bustling and someone had to be turned away given all tables were
Mangia & Bevi is a lovely and relaxed italian restaurant in the St. Lawrence area, and a great place to have a meal before seeing a show at the Berkeley!
4 out of 7 of us ordered pizza, and all of us loved our meals! The crust is light but it is still filling, and I could only finish half of my pizza (though I ate another piece when we got home after the show!). The bread dipped in oil at the beginning of our meal was underwhelming compared to what we experienced at L'Unita.
The other 3 in our party had pasta and said it was only okay. Pizza is definitely the main event!
Tucked away in a commercial building on King St E (with a side entrance on Ontario St.), the place is packed on Wednesday at lunch. We’re lucky to get a seat for four, sharing half of a rustic dining table with other patrons (who we ended up knowing). I’m quickly surprised at how economically priced the Sandwiches are… about half-a-dozen that are $10 or under with a Side Salad of Mixed Greens. The Beccato is stuffed full of Grilled Sausage, Roasted Red Peppers, Tomato Sauce and Provolone Cheese… and like all the Sandwiches on the menu, is available at lunch only (from Noon until 4pm).The chalkboard outside claims to serve “The Best Pizza in Town,” so we order 2 (as you do). There are 31 to choose from ranging in price from $10 to $17 (including a wide array of White Pizzas), so we’re glad our clients had eaten here before and could recommend a couple of beauties. We order The Burina, which is covered in Sausage, Pancetta, Garlic, Chili Flakes, Tomato Sauce and Mozzarella, and is served with a sidecar of 3 sauces varying in spice. We also try a new addition to the menu, The Trentina, which is liberally dressed with Speck, Arugula, Gorgonzola, Mushrooms and Tomato Sauce. I think it’s safe to say that our whole table was in agreement: Mangi & Bevi would give any pizzeria in town a run for its money in terms of being the city’s best.I am feeling like something particularly salty on this day, and couldn’t help but notice the billing of pasta that was made-to-order. The Putanesca had absolutely everything I was looking for: Onions, Anchovies, Capers, Olives, Chilies, Tomato Sauce & Parsley. I found myself using the bread to literally clean the bowl. Throw in a bitter Double Espresso, and we have had one of the nicest lunches in recent memory.Due to its proximity to work, great home-cooking and cool atmosphere, I will be back for certain… and often.
