A great place for seafood! I had the fish special and it was delicious. The cod was perfectly done. For appetizers, the smoke trout was amazing. The calamari was yummy as well. The crab cakes were also tasty and had a bit of kick to it. Overall, the food was great and the staff were awesome.
Took a friend here tonight. Walked in, pleasant greeting and relaxed 'sit wherever you like' motion. No arrogance. friendly staff. Our server Brad was very well versed in all the food and helped with dinner suggestions when asked. Hit the mark every time! Oyster starters, Ceviche, taco samplers, halibut, mushrooms. Top notch. My steak I wasn't incredibly impressed with. (I went on my own with this) Although decent enough not to leave any behind, I wouldn't order it again. Everything else though, without a doubt!
Couldn't get enough of the ceviche.
Will most certainly return to this platz!
Thx guys
I've been trying to write this review for a while and every time I get started, I have to stop cuz I've never been sure what I think of the place. Is it nice inside? Yes. Is the menu appealing? Uh-huh. Yup. Food good? Definitely. Then why is it so hard to review?
I finally figured it out. The front makes you feel so thankful for letting you in, seating you, and serving you that by the end you feel the place is better than it actually is. I'll definitely go back any day of the week, but this is a classic case of the front staff ruining it for the kitchen. I know I always say it's all about the food, but how one is treated tends to leave a more permanent taste in one's mouth than the flavour profiles one consumes. We can do without the indifference from a greeter who was ready to seat walk-ins ahead of us (we had reservations) or the dry sarcasm of the wait staff. With so many choices in the city, I'm not running back to re-live the "ok" experience. The saving grace is the food.
Started with the chowder and the plateau. Right off the bat, double winners. The plateau is a selection of chilled seafood served on two tiers. Everything on it was just right. Not a miss. Too bad it took over 30 minutes to make it to our table. In fairness, it was a busy Saturday night, but if you want to compete with the best in the city for our high end dining dollars, "busy night" should be a phrase absent from your vocabulary.
Moving on, steamed lobster gets the triple gold star. Next time I'm back, this is going to be a double order for me. Right up there with the best in Halifax or Boston. Also ordered the steak frites, which was the most interesting presentation I've ever seen and the taste was memorable. Again, too bad it came a good 30 minutes after the starters were removed. It's not the delays that got me, but the attitude that by refilling my diet coke "on the house" it made up for the unaccounted hour of waiting. Thanks. I'll pay for the extra fizzy aspertane if you promise not to make more promises that my food will be right out and then avoid me the rest of the night.
Of it wasn't for the game of cat and mouse with the front staff, this rating could have been a solid 4.5.
Great food!. Excellent service, great ambience and reasonably priced. Within walking distance of home and the movies - what more could one ask for!
My Seafood Gem. I have now been to this restaurant twice. Both times have been excellent. The oysters are fresh and served properly. The seafood is not overcooked like in many restaurants. The service is friendly and attentive. The atmosphere is cozy and romantic. The menu is small, but what they do serve is extremely well prepared and very tasty. An excellent mid-town place for a great seafood dinner.
Service and Ambience. Went to Zee for my birthday dinner. The atmosphere was rustic and cozy with plenty of charm and wasn't short on elbow room .
Our waiter was friendly and knowledgeable and always prompt to our needs.
We ordered the Crispy Taco Sampler which I found to be a bit bland but the concept and crunch were still enjoyable. We also ordered Diver Scallops which was exquisitely enjoyable, offering a variety of flavour and textures on one plate. And finally, we ordered the Grande Plateau Royale. This towering presentation alone was impressive. Aboard the tower, the shrimp was fresh and delicious, the small salads were decident yet somewhat bland, the mussels were good but the oysters failed to impress as several of them seemed not to be fresh and unpleasing to the palates.
Overall, a good experience and fairly priced. I will return.
Awesome!!!!! Went there for an anniversary dinner with my wife. Sat at the Oyster Bar and talked with resident "shucker" Anthony. The oysters were great. She had the moules frites. I had surf & turf. Everything we had was outstanding. Here's a tip: Get some of Anthony's "Show Sauce". It's the hot sauce they serve with the oysters and calamari. It was ridiculously good. We put it on everything. Two thumbs up.
AMAZING!. Haven't had such a wonderful dinner for a long time! The lobster croquette is extremely cute and delicious. The jumbo shrimps that was in the Surf and Turf was extremely flavorful. Best we've had so far with these types of shrimps. The staff was friendly and extremely observant. Thanks for a wonderful experience! :D

I licked my plate. Honestly, if I was tinker bell, I would bath in the mussel sauce and then lick myself dry. This restaurant is bound for greatness. The atmosphere is surreal (quiet and romantic, despite the place being PACKED). The service was impecable. The food, well refer to my first statement. You MUST try this place. A+++.
Not just amazing fish. Known for their fish I was delightful surprised when i saw fois gras on the menu, what was even more surprising was how good it was. But like any diner that has heard things about the restaurant I went for the fish and saying the fish was cooked perfectly is an understatement every component on the plate was neat and concise would i go back most certainly but next time it will be for the raved about the seafood tower.

Zee Grill Seafood Restaurant is one of the oldest and best seafood restaurants in Toronto. I read several great reviews and a friend had also recommended their "surf and turf". I absolutely LOVED my experience there - minus 1 thing… but will definitely come back! The exterior of the restaurant isn't fancy or anything but when you walk in it's a totally different vibe - romantic with lots of candles and spotlights. I loved how they filled up the exposed brick walls with random quotes! Website: http://www.zeegrill.com/ I loved how cozy and warm the restaurant felt. There's also a private party room to the left of where I was seated " All your dreams can come true… if you have the courage to pursue them ." - Walt Disney (Sorry about the glare - lol) I was slightly disappointed when I found out they didn't offer any mixed drinks i.e. cocktails =( They only offered wine and pop … Bread to start : I didn't like the bread - it wasn't warm and was extremely chewy and hard B.C. Dungeness
