Review Sud Forno - Toronto

Breanne Marie Peacock
Sud Forno is a pretty solid Italian restaurant close to the Eaton Center. The drinks were tasty, a little expensive. I think that the quality of the pizza is very good for the price. The atmosphere is nice. They have a downstairs area with a grab and go section and coffee, whereas upstairs is more formal dining. They gave complimentary home made sourdough with olive oil which was nice. The biggest lacking was the service. Our waitress didn’t come to check how our food was, and after almost 20 minutes of us being finished, a different waitress came over to package our food for us. The other tables seemed to turn over at a pretty normal rate, so we may have just gotten unlucky.

Weekend gateway in Downtown Toronto and we made a stop at Sud Forno for some dessert. I like the location on young street, it was close to the centre Attraction. The Interior of the restaurant was beautifully designed. Great place to bring a date or for a special occasion. The coffee was good, I ordered a tiramisu which was really yummy, brownie which was on the hard dry side. I will be going back to have lunch or dinner here. This restaurant is pricey, but Worth visiting.

It’s a very cozy place to have some food/salad/dessert at any time of the day. I really like the atmosphere here. However, I was a bit disappointed when I saw my latte. My coffee latte didn’t have any latte art, and it just like pour the hot milk into the espresso…..sad.

The little chocolate stuffed powder donuts are amazing, they’re a must ! Pizza was good, nothing outstanding. It’s a nice spot for a quick lunch if you work or stay in the neighbourhood.

One of the few spots you can order a coffee after dinner. Most coffee shops close around 5pm but we were able to order coffee from the bar at 8:30pm on a Friday night and sit inside. The decor is cozy and warm. And of course, this place also serves lunch and dinner.

The place is very busy and it’s difficult to get a seat. It is also very loud because of the music hence difficult for a conversation. The macchiato comes in a latte form and the cappuccino is standard. Coffees can definitely be served warmer. The desserts seem fresh and the blueberry pie tasted delicious, not too sweet. Quite a few teas to check out. Reasonably priced.

Food and drinks were tasty and flavour-full. Good ambience and service. I felt portion was small for the price. Otherwise it was delicious and server was really helpful.

I came to Sud Forno on a solo date before I went to the opera. To be honest, I’ve never done something like that before, so I was a bit nervous. I’m so glad I chose Sud Forno; the folks working on the Tuesday evening I came were super friendly and my waitress was very attentive and checked in often. The custom G&T I ordered (Dillon’s with Sicilian lemon mixer and an orange garnish) was SUBLIME. The Gorgonzola gnocchi was so creamy and delicious that I found myself closing my eyes and savouring each bite fully. The mix of the few flavours was brilliant, and I was so impressed that I was also brought bread and oil to accompany the main entrée. For dessert, I ordered the panna cotta, another mouth-watering dish and the perfect way to end my meal. The cheese was perfection and the sweetness of the jam and berries was the perfect touch. The bathrooms here, on the upper level, we’re super clean when I used them, as well. Overall, such a great experience and I’ve already told so many of my friends and family, both in Toronto and abroad, that this is the place to visit when they’re downtown.

Went to the upstairs restaurant - I really wanted to like this place but hard to do when service and food less than desirable - both were lukewarm. May give it to the new year then try again - hopefully they will have things sorted by then.

Enjoyed their brunch menu. Great lattes. Efficient server.

The food, while very tasty, came out lukewarm. The service was terrible. We felt rushed by the wait staff who cleared our table the minute most of us finished our meals leaving one person in our party feeling rushed to finish theirs. I normally don't order dessert but couldn't resist trying the Nutella filled bombé and a latte machiato. The coffee, like the food, was lukewarm and it took 20 minutes to get our desserts. I was surprised to see the desserts come out on a communal cutting board and even more surprised to see that for $2 I was served one mini bombé while for $3 my colleague got a full sized one that was probably equal to three of mine. The icing on the cake was being forced to pay 18% gratuity when the service did not warrant it.

Not a place I would go back to. Service was very good from a service perspective but the food came cold, desert was dropped off in front of one person and it was meant for 3 different people and food was tasteless

Was impressed with the selection of different paninis, pizza, desserts and overall options. The bombolonis are off the chart and the americano was delicious. Top quality beans.

Reminds me of Italy's L'autogrill. Great food so fresh and tasty! Real Italian European!

Really lousy service. The wait staff were in such a hurry to clear our table when some of us were still in the middle of our meal. We felt so rushed even though there were empty tables all around. Then when we ordered dessert and coffee, the coffee was served first and got cold waiting for the dessert to arrive. That took about twenty minutes. Not what you expect at downtown restaurants for lunch. Not sure why they rushed us in the first place. When I mentioned that to the manager, instead of apologizing, she got defensive and explained they always clear out tables that way. So great to know, we weren't the only ones feeling pressured to get out the door! Won't be coming back here. What are you guys? United airlines? Stop arguing with your guests. Admit, apologize and make amends.
