Great food service and portion .
I haven't been to a Hungarian restaurant that we could finish the food .
Leaving stuffed every time and enough leftovers for another meal.
We had cucumber salad, lecso and cabbage rolls, they were authentic and good quality. The portions were generous. Krisztian our waiter was knowledgeable of Hungarian dishes they serve and he provided an excellent service. The restaurant was clean. We would recommend this restaurant if you want to eat authentic Hungarian food.
LOVE this place, the food is amazing! The staff is amazing too! So glad to have found this place. We've been going there for many years!
My husband and I have been going to this place for over 25 years and although it’s been years since we’ve been, it still rocks!!
Very friendly staff and great food at a reasonable price. Roomy as well. Loved it!
Excellent food reasonable prices, nice hungarian atmosphere and staff
Always a classic....traditional Hungarian food at good prices and big portions....schnitzel is the best
Authentic and delicious!! Huge portions, friendly staff-- had a little Magyar reunion with my ma and bro :)
Been coming here for schnitzel for years. It always pleases! Just good and reliable authentic food. BTW nice job on the renovations!
We have been wanting to go here for a while, it was excellent! Total value for money, quality was superb, and the service was awesome! Highly recommended
Yesterday was my first time here. I was not disappointed. The portions were enormous. Service was excellent. Will be back for sure!
Wonderful! Big portions at lunchtime and a little less pricey! No line up either. The hunter schnitzel was superb! Will be back again for sure.
A solid choice, and the last remnant of Bathurst and Bloor's days of little Hungary. This place used to be surrounded by Hungarian butchers and delis. Nothing wrong with Koreatown, but who wants to go up to North York for a schnitzel.
The schnitzel is authentic and filling– seriously, bring your appetite. It reminds me of when family members would come in from Budapest and my kitchen would smell like goulash for weeks to come. Wiener schnitzel is my favourite one on the menu. The raspberry sodas use authentic imported syrup, so it's an interesting beverage. I've never actually had any alcohol there. It exists, but I can't imagine coming here for a beer. The young girls serving you tend to loudly chat in Hungarian to each other across the restaurant and don't smile much, but it adds to the authenticity of the place. I'm pretty sure it's cash only? I never tried using any of my cards, but I recall hearing they won't take them. The decor is quite dated, but it adds a homey touch. Good, unique little place, I'd certainly recommend it.
I just can't get enough of this place!
Haven't been since the renos.
But the goulash warms you up like nothing else! The schnitzel is the size of an old 33rpm album (ok maybe a bit smaller, but not by much). Cabbage rolls make me salivate. Debrezini sausage doesn't make you breath smell delightful but you can't stop eating it! Cucumber salad is pleasant as are the beets that come with the main.
In the end if you can jam it in, there's a selection of palacinki (or whatever the Hungarian version of crepes is)
It's not a fancy place, but some of the better European food you'll have here in the city.
We love this place. Great Hungarian authentic food. It is a family favorite!
We recommend the snitzel, perogies, gulash and poppy seed crepes with icecream.
Love the service and the authentic decor and how easy it is to reach.
Huge portions! Overall the food is very good, not blow you out of the water good, but very comforting and perfect for lunch. We had perogies, goulash and schnitzel, and with drinks the whole thing was only 60 dollars
I like this place.. it is kind of a no fuss comfort food kind of restaurant. You walk in and the decor ia very dated. One of our chairs actually broke whe we sat down. No matter, the chicken schnitzel made up for it. One order fed two of us with the delicious dumplings underneath, our fave! Perogies were meh and the cabbage roll was quite yummy. Breaded mushrooms were not good at all. Top it off with a delicious custurd dessert, almosy on par with the schnitzel.
Having spent time in Germany and Austria I miss the taste of a great Schnitzel. The kind that is perfectly seasoned with great potatoes and fills up your plate and beyond
So I came to Country Style. And it serves a good rather than great Schnitzel. We ordered the standard meal and the cordon blu variety plus the goulash. Both came as a good size meal but not the wonder to the eye I hoped for.
The flavour. A bit bland. Definitely homemade but it could use a bit more seasoning in the batter. I also prefer mine thin and while this was thin in parts of had thick sections leading to parts being a bit tougher
The potato salad was good but forgettable. The goulash was definitely flavourful and screamed of a Hungarian grandmother cooking out back
I'm still looking for a great Schnitzel to rival Munich But this was not bad!!
I had lunch here few days back.
The portions served are huge, but very few options for vegetarians.!
The custard square is a must try. Tastes heaven!!!
Excellent Hungarian food with very large portions and low prices. As soon as you walk in, you travel to a typical Hungarian restaurant with the checkered table clothes. They always have a good selection of soups (following Hungarian traditions), the best (at lease my favorite) are the pea and the cherry soups. For a large group of friend, i highly recommend to share the wooden plate that comes with schnitzel, sausage and 2 sides. I also really like the chicken liver with dumplings. for dessert don't miss out on trying "palacsinta" (Hungarian crepe) with turo (a type of cheese) or walnuts.
Delicious Hungarian food with tasty big portion sizes and a cozy friendly environment. The hunter schnitzel (with dumplings!) was proper AMAZING and the cherry strudel dessert hit the spot just right.
Authentic Comfort Food. Absolutely love this family run restaurant! It has that no frills, cafe style appeal with great food and friendly staff... and you can't beat the price. The schnitzel is big enough for two to share which means you will have room left to try their apple strudel or custard cake!
Just remember this is a cash only establishment.
Extraordinary Food. We had lunch here Saturday with eight people. Every dish was as if you were dining in downtown Budapest. The service was excellent and everything was excellent value with large helpings and lots of delicious bread. The goulash, schnitzel and perogiee were all terrific.
This place is a real gem if you are looking for continental European food with great taste.
Love This Place!. We love going to Country Style. The food is authentic, fresh and lots for your $$. Love the Goulash Soup, Veal Paprikash, Cabbage Rolls.
Great food CASH ONLY. Great food here schnitzel cabbage rolls ..parking is difficult though ,,give it a try.
Only one left.... There used to be at least 6 or 7 Hungarians joints between Spadina and Bathurst and now they're all gone except for Country Style. The Korona was always my fave after I walked in there by accident in 1977 and almost gagged on the huge, yummy schnitzel. Country Style is still good and a fond reminder of what Bloor Street was before the yuppies and the sushi freaks took over.
The goulash soup is a meal in itself.
Been coming for over 25 years and is a family favorite. This place is like momma's kitchen from the old country. Every time I bring friends here they are a bit suspicious since it looks like an unsuspecting place from the outside. The food is AMAZING! I have been coming here with my parents since I was 5 months old and since moving back to Toronto have been here so many times. I crave their cabbage rolls. If you order their platter for 2 it can feed a family of 4 so beware and bring your appetite. I love their desserts and their raspberry soda. So delicious I'll be going there again tonight.

A Hearty Meal. Saying we had a hearty meal at Country Style would be a massive understatement. We were a group of seven hungry guys and girls who descended upon Country Style and ordered 5 different dishes plus their wooden platter that comes with two types of (giant) schnitzel, sausage, potatoes and coleslaw. We inhaled our food and then ordered the walnut puree for dessert.
The goulash soup and the cabbage roll were amazing, so were the two types of schnitzel (note: order the hunter sauce on the side for the schnitzel, its great!). We ordered all that food, plus 6 beers and the bill came out to about $170.00. Now that's what I call a delicious meal with quite the decent price tag!
The service was awesome. Our waitress, although extremely busy, never made us feel rushed and took her time to answer any questions we had on the menu. Our food came out in great time and tasted like a great homemade meal.
Love the rustic style of this restaurant and I loved the family style dining aspect of it. A great place to head to for a hearty winter meal.
We have been coming to this restaurant for 25 years. Their schnitzel is always excellent and the goulash soup is fantastic. Wonderful ambiance. Great place for a casual meal.
I love this place! I am Hungarian and can say their schnitzel is excellent!
Charming and hearty. Charming atmosphere. The meals are hearty and typically consists of meat and carbs. I like that the taxes are included in the price (not used to the taxes here yet). Big hooks to hang up your coat. Not necessarily overpriced, but it is the sort of place that could have been really inexpensive to top everything off. Really enjoyed the Hungarian red wine.
This is a Toronto Pinnacle of eating out! Toronto has so much food that tries to hide behind fancy menus and decor, however this has never changed and shouldn't because if it's been amazing for 50 years why spoil an amazing thing!!! If you haven't been here GO! And bring cash!!! $20/person all sides included!
for a massive pile of comforting, starchy Euro favourites, it’s a good choice
Toronto’s very best Schnitzel can be found at this quaint and tacky little Hungarian restaurant just east of Bloor and Bathurst. I met up with my friend Mel and we both quickly admitted upon arrival that we were starving. Hungarians are notorious for eating large portions and I felt this home style cooking would hit the spot.
We were all extremely satisfied with Country Style as it serves no frills eastern European food with friendly service and good value.
I can only speak to the schnitzel here as it is the only thing
that I order when I go CSHR. That tells you two things: first, maybe I should get better acquainted with Hungarian cuisine;second, the schnitzel's worthwhile. Both facts are accurate, but I'll elaborate on the second since it's what I know.As a Canadian with deep roots in Germany, I can say thatCountry Style's schnitzel is as good as what you'll find inthe Vaterland their spätzle isn't quite up to what I'm used to,but that has more to do with its form than its taste. The ambience is down-to-earth, from the counter with oldbottles of alcohol when you walk in, to the dated tableclothsin the dining area. A solid choice for a meal, especially on cold, wet days.
This place had phenomenal food and service. Keep in mind this restaurant only accepts cash. I ordered the sweet cherry soup. This soup, which had a cream base, was very pleasing. It also wasn’t too sweet. The beet salad was made from fresh beets. I found the weiner schnitzel tender, breaded perfectly, and scrumptious. The mash potatoes were the only thing that was ho-him. However, the mashed potatoes complimented the weiner schnitzel well. In regard to service, all of my food came out of the kitchen very quickly! I would highly recommend this establishment.
I've had this spot on my list for almost a decade. I gathered 4 pals and finally got to dig into the menu! Platter for 2 is massive, along with an extra order of cabbage rolls and liver w/ dumplings, this was the perfect fix between 5.
I came in with no expectations because I don't know a thing about Hungarian food, so I did find that the schnitzels needed extra salt. My faves were the liver, beet salad, dumplings & cabbage rolls!
There is only one restaurant I can say I've been going to my whole life and it is this place. It opened in 1961 and has been a landmark in the Annex neighbourhood of Toronto. The food is consistently great. You can't go wrong with the classic Weiner Schnitzel with mash and cucumbers. I recommend the raspberry soda to drink and always take them up on the free bread! If there is a place in Toronto you must try, it's this one. Oh! and don't forget to bring cash. 10/10
*Picture shows only half the meal as the meals are so huge!

The last and best of bloor’s Hungarian spots - a real throwback. Room has been recently refreshed, but still has the same vibe. Order the “platter for two” for four.
The inside is very no-frills, with pictures of Hungarian locales adorning the walls. The food they serve is classic Hungarian comfort foods, and it’s all prepared very well.
Portions are generous for the price; you get a nice big piece of schnitzel, a healthy serving of salad plus a side of your choice. I also had the pirogies, which were scrumptiously served with caramelized onions, sour cream, and coleslaw.
What you see is what you get with Country Style, and what you get is a very warm, comforting meal. Great stuff!
One of the best classic restaurants of Toronto. If you don’t know it yet you’re saying to find out what a delicious treat it is. Bring your appetite and cash!
The platter for two is really more for two people... for 2 days. I crave the delicious crispy wiener and Parisian schnitzel‘s, caramelized onion pierogies, cabbage rolls and sauerkraut and the dumplings.
My family has been going there for decades. Love going to eat there for it’s cosy atmosphere. Also missing the layered custard cake. Can’t wait to go back in person.
I had one of the schnitzel sandwiches with potatoes and a small salad and it was all delicious. The soups I've ordered here in the past have always been very rich and flavourful as well so you can't go wrong with those menu options either. Support this Bloor St. institution if you are a fan of or curious about Hungarian/Eastern European cuisine.
