amazing
Fresh, varied, imaginative, delicious. The seaweed salad is particularly good- a perfect balance of heat, spice, sweet, salt and cool. The eggplant with miso glaze is beyond eggplant. Service is professional and friendly. Atmosphere is pleasant, arty, low-key. We'll be back!
Everything we had was delicious. We loved the flavor combinations. The atmosphere was lovely. Nice decor. The wait staff was attentive and very pleasant.
Really amazing food here, tapas style fusion dishes - but the service was somewhat slow and didn't seem to be that attentive. Would recommend this place for the food though!
Jesus Christ! This place is killer. Every dish melted my heart and I literally could not stop ordering so I could explore every menu piece. Favorite was the Arctic char ceviche and the beef cheek curry. Do yourself a favour and just go!
Great spot. Great variety of food, love trying different unique dishes.
Delicious! I went tonight and grabbed a table for two with no wait, lucky us, as the place is quite small. We shared 4 dishes: taro fries, scallop ceviche, shrimp mango salad and duck tenderloin fresh rolls. Everything came out promptly and was fresh and delicious. Try the ceviche, it was amazing!
With an asian fusion menu, Foxley's dishes plays delightfully with interesting ingredients and flavors.
The fried oyster hand roll and oven steamed cod is a MUST TRY. The broth in the cod is incredibly tasty with bold and palette pleasing flavors.
Will definitely visit Foxley again.
My hummina hummina place. Foxley is excellent at preparing dishes that make you crave for more. Tangy, sweet, savory, spicy, light and zippy, rich and tender. It showcases it all! This is my go to place for medicating myself with food. The portions are sharable and in that sense quite affordable. The spicy, crispy shrimp is how I lure my homebody partner out for the evening. It's addictive! One mention of it and we're out the door.
All the ceviches are fresh, balanced in acidity and delicious. My personal fave is the sea bream ceviche.
The sweet and sticky grilled side ribs is the stuff good bbq dreams are made of. Not to mention the braised pork belly and the beef cheek in red curry with a lil spicy peanut thing going on, wow! Rice and steamed buns to sop up all the tasty sauce is a must!!
Foxley is an excellent place to be adventurous with food. I dared myself to have the grilled beef heart one time and boy was I pleasantly surprised. Didn't need to fake approval just to be right, it was tasty!! Came across like thyme seasoned grilled beef kabobs.
Go to foxley! There's something for everyone. Go early or you'll have to wait round 45min. If this happens have a drink at the Painted Lady. The bartenders are sweethearts. Or go to Reposado just south of Foxley on the west side for a yummy tequila cocktail. It's worth the wait. Enjoy!
ps. the ambiance is the pits. As in nil decor scheme. It's about the food there. And as far as the service is concerned, you get what you give. I've always been made to feel welcome.
2nd favorite in the city. I just posted a review of my favorite restaurant in the city (the black hoof) so I thought I'd do one for Foxley too - a very close second. I've been a handful of times over the past year and have never been disappointed. Lovely, attentive service, casual/comfortable atmosphere and great food.
My favorite menu items are all ceviches, the pork belly (melts like butter in your mouth), and the ribs. No bad dishes, though I like these better than most.
Can't go wrong at Foxley if you're in the mood for Asian-influence dining! A much, much better restaurant that similar ones like Origin or Lee.
To Die For. I live in Ottawa, ON and every trip I make to Toronto is accompanied by a trip to Foxley. Went this past Friday night, waited an hour (at 6:30 pm) for a table of four - and it was well worth the wait. We ate the dumplings, steak in chimchurri, ceveche, side ribs and the steamed black cod - I wanted to lick the serving dishes it was so delicious. Can't wait to go back.
Good, not great. The food was good. Especially the Cod that they bring in aluminum foil. But the place is pretty boring looking - they could do much better with not much effort. So I'm not sure when I'll go back since there are so many other great options around.
Explosive. Dinner at Foxleys was simply devine. Probably the best restaurant in the immediate area.
My visit was a few years back, but it to this day was one of the most unique and satisfying meals I have ever had. Definitely going to make a trip back to Foxley, real soon. A tip to those who plan on going - get there early to avoid disappointment.
"U JUST NEVER KNOW ". We found this spot by fluke when we were on our way to Libretto again and decided to give it a try. Turned out to be a good decision because both food and atmosphere are great. Will go again.
Wonderful date spot.. The food is soooo good and it is the most understated spot along the ossington strip. The fish is wicked awesome. Save room for desert, it will not let you down.
Great place and the sea bream ceviche is my fave thing in the entire city. Reading some reviews here about small portions - this is a tapas style restaurant. If you want Montana's in a strip mall, stay in the suburbs. As for a complaint about the price, check the menu in the window before you sit down, you rank amateur.
One of the best meals I have had. Tough to get in, but worth the wait. Try the short-ribs.
Amazing food in a tiny restaurant. Foxley's does not take reservations. The restaurant is tiny; be there when it opens at 6:00 P.M. if you want to get a table. Foxley's offers small plates of exquisite food, intended for sharing. The menu changes from time to time but continuing favourites include the Avocado and Blue Crab salad, beautifully spiced, with the hot sauce decorating the plate strong enough to stand your hair on end. The spiced ground lamb in lalot leaves is terrific, and the beef cheek in red curry an ecstatic experience. I thought the chunks of beef heart overcooked, but I ordered a bowl of rice to sop up the excellent sauce. The menu offers a good choice of seafood. The service is excellent, fast and friendly, and the selection of wine and beer more than adequate. Prices are reasonable for the quality of the food. Parking on Ossington is scanty, check the side streets.
The food is unusual yet familiar. I know this place has received mixed critical reviews, but as an average restaurant-goer, I really enjoy Foxley. The service is good, but more importantly, I just find the food incredibly interesting and yummy. Imagine gyoza, but instead of stuffed with the traditional Japanese fillings, stuffed with lamb, duck and prosciutto -- absolutely divine. Everything I've tried so far has been stellar in my books.

+4.5
Foxley is located on the Ossington restaurant strip. Like the other restaurants in the vicinity, Foxley is Ā warm and comfortable, yet pretty small. Ā Anticipate a little wait time, but know you can leave your name and number and grab a drink at one of the many places near by. This restaurant is Ā definitely worth the wait. Ā The extensive menu of sharable plates is largely influenced by Asian flavours (lots of cilantro). I went with my very pregnant friend KS hoping since she would be eating for two we could order lots of their brilliantly flavoured dishes. TheĀ LAMB AND DUCK PROSCIUTTO DUMPLINGSĀ came first. After one bite we both knew we were in for a real treat. Ā These crispy dumplings came piping hot and packed full of minced lamb and duck prosciutto. The Japanese dipping sauce added a nice, cool, vinegary-ginger flavour that went beautifully with the juicy meat fi
Bold, daring flavours and never bland, that's what I love about Foxley. Almost every dish there will make your tastebuds dance like they've never danced before. Thai's menu does not pay attention to trends (okay maybe with the exception of the kale salad and fried chicken) but rather, it's a list of what Thai likes to cook and what he does best, which are original, inauthentic, one-of-a-kind dishes that stand the test of time.
Upon finishing up the meal, the first thought I had was that Foxley is not as āAsian fusionā as I had anticipated. There are some influences, but not nearly enough for me to notice the Asian aspect of the menu. That does not go to say that I didnāt enjoy my meal though. While I found it was a little on the pricier side, I did enjoy the food and the romantically sophisticated atmosphere. Keep Foxley in your books for either your next date night venue or for a quiet relaxing dinner out with friends.
bokchoy, chimichuri, umeboshi :Ossington: ļ»æ ļ»æ "Winner of the Night" Oven steamed cod with asian greens (um, what's wrong with saying bok choy...cuz that's what it was) and white truffle oil ļ»æ ļ»æ There are people who run to eat at "famous" places when there's a lot of buzz. Those people would be...well...stupid. Like I always say...there is good food everywhere. And sometimes good food becomes bad, and other times it's even better. It's all relative. Foxley made a lot of noise when Tom Thai first opened it. But since I didn't run to go wait in a line, I eventually forgot about it. Then Cracker came home one day (when we were still roomies) and gushed about how delicious it was. Then I moved and eventually forgot about it. But yesterday, I walked right by it. Couldn't miss it. Glad I didn't. Yesterday evening my BFF, his boys and I were looking for a place to grab dinner. Monday is really not the best day for a night out, so many things are closed. One of my favorite places to eat on Ossington. Haven't been in a few months but we often take out of town guests here and have always had a good experience. Love the ribs, seviche, kale salad, steamed fish...mmmm, I think we are due for a visit. It gets pricey because we like to order a lot but it's always a nice treat.
I had heard many great things about this place, so I finally came to give it a try. The menu is a a list of items, that I found to be jumbled and hard to read. I love share plates, but I found this experience a bit underwhelming. I didn't love the atmosphere, it felt too crowded, and the lighting was a bit on the bright side. The food was okay. The dishes sounded great on the menu, but I didn't find them to be executed well. The spring rolls didn't taste much different than what you can get at any other restaurant, and the crab salad was definitely small for the price. I still hear great things about this place, so I can only hope I visited on an off night.Ā
It has been three years since my first and only visit to Foxley. I've tried to go again a couple of times since then - the most recent attempt being a few months ago in June. I remember the visit clearly too. It was a Saturday evening around 7pm and the neighbourhood was bustling. A beautiful summer night, one would be crazy to stay indoors. Anyway, the moment I stepped inside Foxley I knew I was in trouble... the restaurant was jam packed. There wasn't a single empty seat in sight, not even at the bar. There was absolutely no way I'll get a table any time soon. My suspicion was promptly confirmed - I had to wait two hours for a table of four (as you may have guessed Foxley does not take reservations.) I was outta there in a flash; I cannot justify waiting that long for food. Ever. We ended up going to CafƩ Boulud and as always, they never disappoint.
So, lesson learned and I was smarter this time around. Instead of going on a Saturday I went to Foxley on a Wednesday evening at 7pm, and oh my, the difference was astounding. I also thank the crazy downpour and thunderstorm that started at 6:30pm :)
Chef Tom Thai is still busting out some really great food in his small kitchen. The bistro's South Asian inspired menu has been updated from my last visit but a lot has stayed the same (especially his signature dishes.) I should mention that some things never change at Foxley. First, its food menu is still presented on plain white paper. Also, there remains to be a staggering 30+ dishes but no desserts. Secondly, decor hasn't changed one bit either. Bold, daring flavours and never bland, that's what I love most about Foxley. Almost every dish there will make your tastebuds dance like they've never danced before (you know, if taste buds could dance.) Thai's menu does not pay attention to trends (okay maybe with the exception of the kale salad and fried chicken) but rather, it's a list of what Thai likes to cook and what he does best, which are original, inauthentic, one-of-a-kind dishes that stand the test of time. Best example? Foxley's Arctic Char Ceviche, which also happens to be my favourite ceviche dish. This plate brings thick and tender slices of char which are coated and balanced by tart lemon juice, lime and olive oil, and finally topped with a generous amount of scallions and spicy chili slices. Sweet, salty, spicy and sour, it's a party in your mouth. If I ever find out that you went to Foxley but did not order the Arctic Char Ceviche, I will have to kill you. Seriously.Aside from the ceviches the next best dishes that evening were the Tempura Pacific Oyster Hand Rolls and the Grilled Beef Heart.Ā
The fried oysters were hot, plump, juicy and crunchy, and the sliced mangos were refreshing and sweet. Paired together with kewpie mayo and rice all wrapped in nori, you have something extraordinary (there was perhaps a bit too much rice because I suddenly felt really full after finishing the hand roll.) As for the Grilled Beef Heart skewers, I think I enjoyed that sharp and flavourful salsa just as much, if not more, than the beef hearts themselves, which had a slightly rubbery yet surprisingly appetizing texture. The Grilled Pork Side Ribs were delicious and soft, but could be a lot juicier (if my memory serves me correctly I enjoyed them a lot more three years ago.) The fried chicken isn't something I would order again. Not that it wasn't good but a part of me was bitter that Foxley gave into the "what's hot right now" trend, you know? As for the chicken itself, it was awfully juicy and tender, absolutely no complaints there. The chili sauce was also tasty. What was lacking was actually the batter; it was too light. Weird, I know, because nobody ever complains about batter being too light, but it was just too thin and flaky here. It didn't have enough of that satisfying crunch I look for when I take my first bite of fried chicken. I also realized that I prefer my fried chicken with bones in it. There's something so rewarding about holding onto a big piece of fried chicken with your fingers, tearing away all the meat from the bone, and hearing that crunchy bite of skin echoing in your ears as you chew. Yeh, all those factors are essential to my ideal fried chicken experience. Otherwise, I'm just having good fried chicken nuggets.
Pro Tip: It seems that chef Thai really likes to use a lot of crispy shallots and scallions in his dishes. Not a complaint really - since both ingredients give a lot of flavour and texture to any dish - but just remember to bring mints.
Asian fusion in Ossington. I had the Ceviche, which is so tasty though serving wise was so-so. I believe this is their famous dish here. My husband had the Jumbo quail with mango salad,& I must say that it was so gooooood!! Best mango salad I had. The cocktails goes around $14. The place is usually packed during dinner time so make sure to come early. The back patio is also perfect for small gatherings. š
Excellent restaurant, definitely check it out. Solid 4.6. I would suggest they take the lamb dumplings off the menu, it's good but underwhelming. Everything else is good, why bring it down with something so ordinary? That's my two bit. The photo is the scallops. Great dish. :)
This is a great little spot for Asian inspired tapas. We got the inari sushi, oyster hand rolls, garlic shrimp, Asian vegetables, and the truffle whitefish. All of it was so delicious. They also timed all the tapas coming out perfectly and in the perfect order.
My favourite was the inari sushi. The mushrooms paired with the sweet inari was really satisfying.
My partner could not stop raving about the truffle whitefish. He said itās the best fish heās ever eaten. He liked it so much he asked our waiter to pass that message along to the chef.
Everything was great and we really enjoyed our time here. Canāt wait to come back!
THIS PLACE IS A MUST VISIT! We got scallop ceviche (omfg, so good), ribs, oyster handroll (so good we ordered twice), shrimp, all fantastic. Literally, exceptionally excellent. For the drinks we got the cocktail sour, and old fashion, both were amazing- and strong. I canāt believe I lived in toronto my whole life and only discovered this place now, I will definitely come again and again and again. Servers are all so friendly, kind, and the chefs are talented. Highly recommend!!!!!!!!
I went with a group of 5 and was able to snag one of the last open tables around 7. We ordered the following to split:
Salmon tataki
Sea bream ceviche
Grilled lemongrass Cornish hen
Thai curry vegetables
Arctic char ceviche
Inari sushi with mushrooms
Steamed rice
All were absolutely amazing (favorites were ceviche, Cornish hen, and curry). Our waiter was very attentive and was great at recommending items as well as listing gluten free items. I wish I had the space for dessert because I'm sure it would have been phenomenal.
My friend and I spontaneously selected this bistro for a sit down meal. Everything we ordered was delicious!! The Ginger/Green Apple Ceviche, scallop hand roll and kale salad. Totally going back!!!! Everything was very flavorful and the wait time between food was perfect.
Went there last weekend with friends from out of town. Ordered several plates for sharing. Definitely recommend the beef cheeks curry, the ceviche, eggplant dish, the fish and the pork ribs. Everything tasted great. Going back again šš
