Review Jump Restaurant - Toronto

I came here for Valentine's Day and our experience with the server was amazing! Upon entering, we were offered coat service and were quickly escorted to our table. Our server, Karissa, was very attentive to our questions and requests. I love that she asked the kitchen to separate a dish we requested onto separate plates to save us the mess of dividing it ourselves, how generous! All used utensils were replaced with every course and servers always made sure water glasses were full. The food was very good as well, I wish there was a 4.5 rating because there was nothing wrong with the food but I do go into restaurants hoping to be blown away by flavours and textures. I really loved the mushroom soup, highly recommend it. The bolognese was also very delicious and you can really taste the pork. The tenderloin was alright to me, it was flavourful and easy to cut into but perhaps it was the combination of that and fries which made this $52 dish less worth it. Perhaps everyone has their own preference of characteristics for fries but I felt that my fries felt almost on the same level of store bought frozen fries. I was surprised to see that the soup and pasta that were a standard price were amazing but a higher priced main was sub-par. Ambiance wise, very upscale and intimate. The place was clean and the decor was tasteful. The bathrooms were a little odd as the water pressure was low and tissues were on the counter in place of paper towel or napkin. Overall, I do see this a good restaurant to go to and try but im not seeing anything amazing to come back for (except maybe the mushroom soup).

Came for a dinner on the weekend. It was easy get the reservation and to reschedule it. Had a great service, very fast and attentive. The food was great, chef restaurant level. Make sure you check the menu as it is not huge.

Overall, if the perfect score was five stars, I’d give it three and a half. I was a little disappointed. I thought it would deserve a better grade. This restaurant may have been mediocre in my opinion, but it scored very high on Google Maps. I wouldn’t recommend it because there’s nothing to look forward to. The restaurant is located in the 18th Wellington W, Toronto, ON M5L 1G4 building, which offers paid parking. A coat can be hung in the cloakroom at the entrance of the restaurant. You need to make reservations via web site and phone. I made my 19 o’clock Reservation, waited for about five minutes (said to be clearing the table, not providing a table on time) , sat down with ice water and asked if I wanted anything else. Ice water tastes distinctly of disinfectant. The table and utensils are clean. The lighting in the dining room is just right. It’s not too dark. Background music can be a bit loud and can interfere with conversations with friends. When ordering, there is no initiative to recommend dishes, nor initiative to recommend wine. The glasses and decanters are not positioned correctly (they should be on the right hand side of the guest but on the left hand side) , the glasses are not positioned correctly (they should not be on the opposite side of the guest) , and there is no confirmation of the wine to the guest, without first pouring a little into the glass for the guests to taste. The first course of tuna avocado tartare tuna is not fresh, the fish smell is very heavy, and when eaten into the mouth also smells fishy. Guacamole doesn’t neutralize the smell of fish. Salmon for main course: the skin is crispy but not juicy enough. The sauce is salty, the cauliflower is inexplicably sour, and the asparagus is bland. The whole dish doesn’t go well with each other. Butter chicken wings with side dishes: the wings are cold when served, but the chicken is well seasoned. Perhaps it’s because it’s been sitting there too long, and the skin isn’t crispy enough, it’s gone soft. Finally, I mentioned to the waiter that the tuna tartare tasted stale. After consulting with the kitchen, he decided to charge the dish off my bill. That’s commendable, but it’s more important to focus on the quality of the dish than the money back. Before I left, I used the bathroom in this restaurant. It was clean and smell-free. When I finally went out to get my clothes, the clerk at the front desk was nowhere to be found, so I had to wait another five minutes with the number plate.

The wings, Osso Bucco and Yellow fin tuna tartar was on point. The Boar and beef bolongese was off the chart! I will certainly go back, especially for the strawberry martini.

Stopped by for lunch before the holidays - happy to find these guys in a neighbourhood with so little open that time of day. Mixed review on the place but ultimately worth 4 stars. Although the lunch prices are a bit more affordable, this spot does tread into fine dining territory. Service therefore was pretty spot on and friendly. Food was either tasty or average. The molasses bread was basically incredible and my burger was tasty and enormously filling. My friend had the gnocchi which was small and bland. Overall a good spot for lunch. I think it has typical financial district prices and a generally reliable experience.

Everything we ate here was delicious. We enjoyed the poutine fries, olives, burger and the salmon.

Absolutely fantastic restaurant. Nice ambiance and the service is flawless. The food is also amazing and very well made.

The food and the dessert was so delicious, we thoroughly enjoyed it. Service was excellent also. We are definitely going back for their superb white chocolate cheesecake and amaretto coffee. And I will make my camera ready.

We always wait for budget-friendly Winterlicious and Summerlicious to avail ourselves of the upscale eating places like Jump. Good food, friendly and efficient service, if a bit on the bland side as far as character goes.

The Handmade Pastas section on the menu featured Italian cuisine with North American ingredients. I’m always hesitant to order lasagna at restaurants for fear that it will consist of a few sheets of pasta layed with meat and cheese in an individual serving dish then popped into the oven. However, as I was in a top notch establishment I trusted the chef and he did not disappoint.

I finally tried Jump yesterday after months of anticipation, and while I enjoyed the food, it wasn't spectacular. I really enjoyed other O&B restaurants that I had tried, and as such had high expectations for this one, which perhaps explains why my rating isn't as high as it could be.

I had the artichoke and rapini as a starter, and the wild pacific salmon as my main course. While I would definitely recommend both dishes to someone looking for suggestions at Jump, the meal was a little way from the best meals that I have had.

Excellent service and a beautifully decorated atmosphere, but take the food out of the Financial district setting and it's just average. The standout of my Summerlicious dinner was the appetizer. A truly unique style of bruschetta: CRUSHED PEA & FAVA BEAN BRUSCHETTA (vegetarian/local) featured
Arugula Salad, Pecorino, O&B Artisan Bread and Ricotta. I did enjoy the flavours of my main: ROASTED PORK TENDERLOIN & PRUNES which featured Couscous, Capers, Almonds and Artichoke - but it isn't something I'll crave to go back to the restaurant specifically for. The Limoncello Pavlova was ok - but again, not memorable enough to go back for.

A late night, last minute reservation brought me to Jump. We arrived at a rather empty hour around 10PM. Exceptional service as expected of an O&B restaurant. Food from their Summerlicious dinner menu was a little lacking.
I loved the "Pig & Parsley Terrine" appetizer, you can't go wrong with a terrine; the chicharron had an interesting texture, but I'd rather be having this in a more casual setting than in a business casual restaurant. "Alberta Lamb a la Plancha" was mediocre, or rather, unbalanced; the lamb a la plancha was delicious, but the garnishing (fregola sarda, dried olives, charred treviso... ) was too salty and overwhelming that the whole dish tasted oddly unsatisfying. Hopefully will come back for another visit and try their regular dinner menu.

As a fan and patron of other O&B joints in the GTA, my dinner at Jump was a highly-anticipated affair. And the experience was as fabulous as I expected it to be.

There's plenty of reviews on here about the excellent menu, so I won't get into the intricacies of what we ordered. However, I will say that, as starters, the Bacon-Wrapped Boneless Quail and Pan-Seared Foie Gras were exquisite, while my main of Roasted Half Free-Range Chicken, served on a bed of caramelized onions, capers, cracked green olives, and mascarpone polenta shined in both quality and quantity, compared to the selections of my dining party.

From Jump's excellent wine list, a few bottles of the 2006 Pirramimma Stock's Hill Shiraz served the perfect complement to our highly-palatable meal.

The staff were friendly, the music selection was très cool, and the ambiance was stellar.

I will conclude by saying that every appetizer, main and dessert, ordered by my group of nine, evoked an unanimous top score on the satisfaction and value for money scale...and was concluded by a definite promise to return.

Was at Jump a few weeks back while in town and had to go back again. Amazing Wild Mushroom Soup , no cream, and the best Gnocchi I have ever had! Ordered both again. Sat at the bar and Shelley provided fantastic service and conversation (and recommendations) as mentioned.
Will definately be back again!!

Wonderful Experience. We had a family dinner at Jump a couple of weeks ago, food was amazing, great atmosphere not stuffy at all would definitely go back. Servers a are friendly and welcoming.

Delish pasta. I dont eat meat so I had the Turnip Agnolotti in a walnut pesto which was out of this world!! I also had the wild mushroom soup - can't rave about this one, it was just 'Meh.' I wouldn't get that again but the pasta was fresh and amazing flavors in the sauce. My boyfriend had the game night steak - which he enjoyed, not top notch in his books. Service was good, better towards the beginning as it was near empty when we got there and by the time we left it was completely full. Overall a good experience so we will return.

2 to 3 star at best!. Service was good -

Food wasn't good at all - starter salad was completely dull and drenched in creamy dressing (did not even eat 2 bites); streak was overdone and below average; lamb dish was cold and worst of all our side of sautéed greens were full of raw garlic (who's in charge in the kitchen!?).
Please spend your money elsewhere - definitely not worth it.

Great service. So similar to what has been mentioned before, the service I had here was amazing! The food was decent and it's a nice location and venue.

Great staff, mediocre food. We were eager to try out Jump, having recently been to Bannock. The menu options seemed really enticing, I appreciate a more risky, colorful menu. Disappointingly, I found the execution of the food to be not in line with price point. Some of the meat and seafood were overcooked (the pulled pork was dry, which I found surprising given that's really hard to do) and I didn't really find that the description of the menu items reflected what was served. A dish described as a chili was actually some scallops with tomatillo sauce on the edge of the plate, that's stretching it for calling it a chili. Other than that, the staff was fantastic.

Would eat there again. Food and atmosphere were great - was there on a rare weekend visit to Toronto. GF and I both had the mushroom soup to start - fantastic; she had the ravioli with rabbit, and I the pig shoulder - both of which we enjoyed immensely. Service didn't seem at par with the food quality, but was adequate.

Pork Chop, Mmmmmm. There for a group dinner and the favorite meals were the burgers and the pork chop. Everyone who did not order this wished they had. Appys were mediocre compared to the burgers & pork chops.

Good service, $25 corkage fee

Run Away - Don't Jump In. Letter I Wrote to Jump
I wanted to contact you about our horrible experience at your restaurant on Saturday, August 17th, 2013. My daughter and I were visiting Toronto and were staying at One King West. While on a walk around the neighbourhood I saw the sign for Jump. I know of the group through Cityline and have seen Mr Bonacini many times preparing food on the program. I checked the menu on line and saw a nice array of choices. We decided upon Jump for dinner and made reservations for 6:45. We were greeted and seated. We made our orders, I, a Lichee Martini x 2, 6 Oysters and the tagliatelle. My daughter ordered Pretty in Pink x 2 and the Green Chick Pea Curry.
Our experience started with the waiter spilling my cocktail on me and the table. Of course he apologized and cleaned it up but did not offer me another to replace the 1/3 that was missing. I assured him not to worry as I don't like to be hard on the staff but I was not impressed. The oysters were good but the mignonette was over spiced and heated which took away any taste of the delicate oysters. I only put a tiny bit on and stopped at one oyster. The vinegar dip was average. My daughter had a bad experience with the Chick Pea Curry. The peas were completely raw (I tasted them as well) and crunchy, which I feel was a big problem trying to eat them. I have had many dried legume curries and prepared as many and I can say I have never had such a bad dish as you served that evening. We had plans on enjoying one your desserts but decided to get out and run away while we could. My daughter hardly made it back to the hotel, in your front yard, before she had a violent reaction and found herself in the bathroom for the rest of the evening (without going into details). We bought her imodium at the little corner store which did help.
I am so disappointed in the service and food from your restaurant I feel compelled to notify you of this and also warn others of our time at Jump.
I am not sure what went wrong that evening in the kitchen and with the servers but something definitely was off. I know you are a higher class dining establishment with pride in your professionalism so it was a complete shock to have the dining experience we suffered through.

This was our first time at Jump and first time during Winterlicious 2013. Underground parking was only $2, courtesy of Jump, just remember to get it validated by them when you leave. I made reservations for 7pm on a Saturday night, it was packed. We were greeted at the front and seated right away, the waiter came with the menus and brought water and bread. It was crowded, tables very close to each other but I didn't feel cramped and it was noisy but you couldn't hear people beside you talking. For appetizers I ordered the Peekytoe Crab Cake, it was very tasty and done very well, for the main I ordered the slow cooked pork shoulder, it was delicious, so tender and flavorful, for dessert I had the carrot cake, which was excellent and the coffee was amazing. The simmered short ribs ragu was a bit misleading, my wife order that, thinking it will have meat in it, 2 small pieces however she did like the gnocchi that came with the ribs ragu. She was definitely disappointed with her main course. Overall, service was excellent, the ambiance was very nice, food was very good.

Good food, poor service. Jump is great for corporate lunch and evening out with friends. The food is great quality and is definitely worth the price tag, we thoroughly enjoyed the lobster risotto and white chocolate cheesecake. However.. the service was quite poor, we couldn't locate our server most of the time, and even after we asked fro the bill it took a while to arrive. A bit of more attention to detail could go a long way for this location.

Consistently Good & Busy. For lunch or dinner - the food quality is quite good, the servers are professionals and contribute to the experience. THis place does get packed - plan ahead.

Overhyped.. Expensive and overpriced given quality of food. If you're going, have the burger - you won't go wrong, however, if you stray off the basics, you'll be disappointed. I went with as a party of 4 and those who ordered outside the basics were disappointed. The cocktail list is short but good.

If you're looking for dinner, there are better bets in the area. If you're looking for a drink, this might be the spot for you.

It seems like jump is stuck between the high/low price and quality points - not sure what it's trying to be.

Went there to sample the summerlicious menu with my husband. I had the gazpacho, steak with mushrooms and pana cota. All three where tasty and well prepared. My husband had the crab cake, pull pork sandwich and chocolate cake. His choices where even better then mine. The restaurant was chic and not overly fancy. All in all I would return :)

SALTY. Everything was awesome except for the main. covered in salt and the meat was kinda tough. we complained and the service was pretty good, also got free cannoli -which was good. I just wouldn't go back since there's so many good restaurants out there.

Bad food, Bad service. The food wasn't prepared properly, and when I made a complaint, the server didn't care

Great place for apps and drinks!. Good cocktails (if you're willing to pay $10-$13 per drink). good sharing-sized appetizers. great rooftop patio, though it seems to be frequented by business people.. which isn't so bad, but i don't really fit in there, but i'd still go back.

Now, Anna’s been absolutely raving going to Jump ( FB ) since apparently she’s read some great reviews about it (Anna: In other words, I stalk a lot of other food bloggers.). So when our personal schedules unfortunately messed with our initial plans to go to Fred’s Not Here (Dan: Eventually!) and Bent, we quickly planned to hit up the Oliver & Bonicini classics of Jump and Canteen. So did Jump live up to all of Anna’s expectations with its $45 dinner menu ? Let’s find out! The Appetizers: Heritage Salmon Tartare With: Smoked Chili, Plantain, Tomatillo Relish, & Maple Ponzu This salmon tartare was well done. The flavours weren’t too strong and were well complemented by the tomatillo relish. The maple ponzu was definitely interesting, offering an intriguing contrast between sweet and savoury flavours. The plantain chip on top added a crunch texture-wise but we weren’t

On a recent warm yet breezy evening, I made a visit to the new and refreshed, Jump Restaurant . They had just reopened their doors, following a month-long renovation, giving full face-lifts to its dining rooms, bar and kitchen. Although the restaurant has undergone smaller revamps over the past two decades, this renewal has been the most extensive, with partners Peter Oliver and Michael Bonacini investing $1 million in upgrades. Back then, it was Commerce Court's soaring glass atrium that had Oliver & Bonacini, was visualizing a modern New York-style Café & bar (creating something new, innovative for the financial district). Jump's original design by Robert Meiklejohn was described as big, bold and confident, now deSignum Design's interpretation reads as: warm, intimate and refined, while still maintaining the classic Jump feel. Polished wood tables have replaced white tablecloths. Cognac-coloured leathers, tones of charcoal grey and warm amber woods have been added into the space, co

To start our meal, we had the Steak Tartare. What was surprising about this dish was that it didn’t come with any bread, instead the vessel was sliced up radishes.

The mushroom soup was amazing because they added a bit of truffle oil (enough so I could taste it) and that really made the soup good! For the main dish, I love salmon regardless so it's hard to say if it was actually good or not hahah but it was definitely made really well. It wasn't dry at all! And for the dessert, I thought it'd be a pudding but it was more like a moist cake. It was really good though!! The 2 sauces mixed with the pudding was absolutely delicious.

The space is beautiful, with glass ceilings letting sunlight flood the room.

This year for our group summerlicious meal, I wanted to try an established restaurant, one that has proven to deliver great meals over time. Having had lovely dinners at other Oliver & Bonacini’s restaurants, Luma and Auberge du Pommier, I had high expectations for Jump.
Gastro World
Given Jump’s proximity to the financial district, it’s the perfect place for a lunch, especially during Summerlicious. In line with the warm weather, I decided to start with the Ontario summer salad. The salad was a mix of green; surprisingly, Jump decided not to mix in other colours to give it some contrast – what happened to Ontario tomatoes or cheese which could have jazzed up the salad? Rather, it consisted of shaved asparagus, leaves of baby kale and pistachios. The dressing was a poor choice (fennel) as there wasn’t enough flavo

Jump is a sleek and modern American bistro style restaurant located in the heart of downtown Toronto, in the business district. They have a both eclectic and classic interior with sky high glass atrium and beautiful wood in the entire interior.

Jump is the rebellious and often misbehaving teenager of the O&B family; it mixes and matches flavors and ingredients, often from contrasting culinary backgrounds. However, Jump settled down for Summerlicious with a line of fresh, light and summery dishes perfect for waking you up on a Monday lunch. Both the appetizer and main looked like the same dish: a mayo on seafood on a salad. But they were both resoundingly refreshing, especially the perfectly cooked salmon. I took a gamble with the dessert and did not quite like passion fruit in Panna Cotta (I couldn’t help but wonder if artificial flavoring was being used, having been served an equally unappetizing bubble tea last night). Yet the opposing dessert (the chocolate mousse) was again, light, refreshing and chocolaty. Finally, kudos to the speedy service and getting me out in 40 minutes, which typically beats a FoodIQ run.
This crab cake was HUGE. It was literally between the size of a baseball and thicker than a hockey puck. There was way too much tartar sauce so I just scrapped off the excess. The crab cake turned out to be pretty good.

Overall, definitely a good business casual place for dinner, the type where you would go out after work with your colleagues or a casual date with someone. The place is a bit dimly lit but filled with chatter and laughter from the tables all around. Service was great and the food was not bad (and I assume that the regular dishes will be a lot larger than the ones presented in this meal). This Winterlicious meal was $35, so ~$45 including tax and tips. These 'licious events has always been a hit-and-miss for me, but this one was not bad. Still, I have this nagging feeling that I should be feeling more full for this price.
Hellokitty0313
The service was excellent from the hostess to our server at the table. I started off with the “Guilt & Honey” bourbon recommended by the server as it is sweet and covers the bourbon taste yet it is still alcoholic.
Dobbernation
Chef Paul Benallick is the driving force in the kitchen offering a fresh approach to the restaurants modern menu. On one cold winters eve I found myself marching a frozen finger down Paul’s menu. Dale arrived shortly after, plopping himself across the table and flashing a smile in anticipation for our night out on the town. We started the evening with a tip of our hats to fine whisky and spiced bourbon. Listening to the chitter chatter at the tables around us it was clear that on weekends the restaurant caters to folks looking for pre-theatre libations. I had planned a double bill with Dale that evening, a fine feast followed by my first visit to the city’s famed improv theatre, Second City.

Aside from food, Jump! needs to work on their table side romance. The server only briefly touched on one entrée and one dessert; "this is your jerk chicken with tomatoes on top", “this is your hazelnut milk chocolate mousse with a strawberry on top.” Com’on Jump! Lie to me! “This is your hazelnut milk chocolate mousse. The sponge cake was infused with organic espresso. We ensured the espresso extraction occurs at 90°C to 96°C. This was a critical process as higher temperatures accentuate bitterness; while lower temperatures accentuate acidity. Pieces of caramelized hazelnuts were sprinkled on the milk chocolate mousse. Each cake was topped with wild strawberry. We lost three men in the forest during our strawberry expedition. Enjoy!”

I was pleased and impressed. I honestly haven't tasted food this flavourful and well-crafted since Paris. Splendid!

The ambiance and food was perfect but our server honestly ruined my whole dining experience. From reading other reviews, no one else had complained about their server, so I guess I was completely unlucky. l don’t think I would visit soon or voluntarily go unless a bunch of my friends are DYING to go – because

Chilled Tomato Gazpacho with shrimp salsa, cilantro chili crema and garlic crouton. This soup was super good! Went so well with the patio weather and sunshine.

Jump has an interesting vibe to it - a destination for Bay St. workers during lunch or after the day is over. Its very upbeat, classy, and more of a bistro than fine dining. Its a nice place to relax and enjoy a delicious meal with its jazzy and buzzing environment. The place looks great, with a high atrium ceiling in portions of the dining room, and interesting decor such as the window shades with drawings on them. (Couldn't take a picture as I did not want to disturb the other customers) We got there at 8:45 and despite being a Tuesday night, Jump

I was craving for chocolate cake so after searching on the yelp site I saw several reviewers recommending the SOMA molten chocolate cake at JUMP Cafe . It was one of the Oliver & Bonacini restaurants and it definitely did not disappoint. Located in the Commerce Court along Wellington I got a friend of mine to join me on my sweet indulgence. We were given complimentary bread basket and some sort of garlic tomato dip. It was yummy. I loved the huge tortilla chip. My friend was hungry so she ordered the truff

Let the Winterlicious journey begin! I literally spent hours poring over the Winterlicious menus to decide which restaurants I'm going to. This year, I have a super busy schedule because of school at Waterloo, so I could only do Winterlicious for one weekend. So unfortunately, I had to cram 3 Winterlicious meals into one weekend. First up on my list, lunch at Jump. I picked Jump because I'm a fan of O&B, but also because the menu enticed me. Unfortunately, parking is ridiculously expensive on Wellington Street, so we ended up parking at Eatons and just walking there. As a result, we were an hour late for our reservation, but thankfully they got as a table after a mere 10 minute wait. Jump has a very industrial feel compared to the other O&B restaurants. Normally, I rarely spend $20 (before tax) on lunch. But I'm a sucker for prix fixe menus. The bread basket looked good, and I noticed that they use the same container as O&B Cafe Grill. However, the bread was a little cold, although the

Jump describes itself as “a big, bold American style bistro combining classic New York style with sleek modern eclecticism. The sky high glass atrium, rich wood interiors, vintage wrap around bar and courtyard patio provide the perfect backdrop for our world-inspired cuisine.” Now I’ve yet to set foot in NYC so I can’t attest, but Jump is beautifully decorated. If you’re stuck behind a computer all day, you’ll love the sunlight pouring in.

Just like Blogger sometimes feels like the black sheep of the Google family, Jump kind of feels like the O&B equivalent. I feel bad. I really do. With such a stunning interior and high quality of service, I almost wanted to give them a higher score than a meagre 12, but (excuse my animal idioms) you just can’t put lipstick on a pig.

If you’re going to pick any of the appetizers, I would recommend the ricotta, which was fairly palpable. Aiden’s crab cake was lacklustre, but the borscht was just a disaster. When I imagined the “borscht with trout” in my head, I had envisioned a beautiful deep red soup with a few delicate flakes of fish balanced on top. What Brandon and Eric got was…not that (see photo for reference). Despite there not being a lot of fish, Eric somehow found a bone in his. Brandon couldn’t even finish more than a few bites.

For your convenience, I am going to continue along this mediocre, bad and terrible progression for the main courses. Mediocre: the chicken at its best angle looked like standard banquet food, but when we tried to stab the mass of potatoes, we soon realized the consistency was more putty than purée. Bad: the pork shoulder (which I was informed might become a regular item) was the most confusing. The pork itself tasted like a chewier piece of Hong Kong-style BBQ roast, but was paired with a (cold) loosely Scandinavian potato salad. There was an alarming amount of dill, and the large chunks of cornichon and fennel were pretty hard to swallow. Terrible: I know vegetarian options are usually kind of neglected at Winterlicious time, but this mushroom ravioli was pretty inexcusable. The dish was comprised of six sad little pieces of pasta tossed with button mushrooms, and included a piece that was missing the filling entirely. I couldn’t believe it.

The desserts are not really worth discussing (but I’ll just say that the panna cotta is probably a better choice over the other two).

Final Note: Allow me to reiterate again that the service was good. All our dishes were served together. Our water glasses were always filled. And our comfort was consistently checked on. Indeed, they did everything they possibly could to make up for some of the kitchen’s shortcomings, but I was still vastly disappointed. I usually speak with great confidence about the restaurants in the O&B empire, but unfortunately, I might have to leave Jump off that list.

My choices:

- Wild & Tame Mushroom Soup | no less than six kinds of mushrooms (no butter or cream)
- Broiled Atlantic Salmon Filet | mulled red cabbage, ginger and fennel salad - Toffee Bread Pudding | vanilla crème Anglaise and cranberry preserve

L's choices:- Peekytoe Crab Cake | celeriac, citrus and dill pickle tartar sauce - Simmered Short Rib Ragu & Yukon Potato Gnocchi | pine nut pesto and Pecorino - Milk Chocolate Panna Cotta | cinnamon Chantilly

L didn't particularly like her main dish but she loved her appetizer and dessert! For me, I loved all three courses of my meals. The mushroom soup was amazing because they added a bit of truffle oil (enough so I could taste it) and that really made the soup good! For the main dish, I love salmon regardless so it's hard to say if it was actually good or not hahah but it was definitely made really well. It wasn't dry at all! So did Jump live up to all of Anna’s expectations with its $45 dinner menu? Let’s find out!

The Appetizers:

Heritage Salmon Tartare
With: Smoked Chili, Plantain, Tomatillo Relish, & Maple PonzuThis salmon tartare was well done. The flavours weren’t too strong and were well complemented by the tomatillo relish. The maple ponzu was definitely interesting, offering an intriguing contrast between sweet and savoury flavours. The plantain chip on top added a crunch texture-wise but we weren’t sure if it was really needed. That being said, it certainly wasn’t bad by any means. Anna is quite fond of plantain chips and this for her was an unexpected but lovely surprise.

Antonio’s Prosciutto Cotto Salad
With: Celery, Walnuts, Avocado, Green Goddess DressingDan decided to go for this as he’s always been a big fan of prosciutto, but he’s never had it as part of a salad before. Turns out, it’s pretty good. The salad was fresh, crunchy, and well-dressed, though we had no real idea as to what green goddess dressing was. Dan personally would have liked more dressing, but he likes his salads bursting with flavour and unhealthy. XD The plantain chips (or at least that’s what we think they were) served as an interesting texture element, adding a crunch that would otherwise have been added by croutons.

The Mains:

Ash’s Braised Wellington County Beef Cheek Vindaloo (Local)
With: Green Wheat, Raisin & Couscous Pilaf, & Pickled OkraOoh, an vindaloo! A really, really good vindaloo too! Now Dan must point out that it’s not perfectly authentic due to the *cough* beef *cough*, but it was brilliantly made. Anna loved the tender softness and the full flavour of the beef. The couscous wasn’t at all dry and was superbly flavoured on its own. Dan wished there was a bit more sauce to accompany the couscous pilaf, a fact with which Anna has some disagreements. All told, this dish was fantastic.

Broiled Sea Bream
With: Sweet Corn & Fava Succotash, Popcorn, Shepherd Pepper, & Jalapeño JamThis is the shot that’s up as one of BlogTO’s ten favourite shots from Summerlicious 2014 and hopefully with some help from you guys, it might be in the running for one of the top three spots. :) Sea bream itself isn’t a particularly special fish, but this was cooked very well, being soft, flaky, and flavourful. The succotash was sweet and completed the fish splendidly and the jalopeno jam was a tad odd, but added an interesting kick. Dan thought the addition of popcorn was genius, complementing both the succotash and adding good texture to the dish.

The Desserts

Peach & Passion Fruit Trifle (Vegetarian/Local)
With: Vanilla Meringue, & Tarragon SyrupThis fruit trifle was definitely on the sweet side, but a good amount of sweet. Make sure you spoon the meringue, syrup, and the fruit to get the best mix of flavours (Anna: You have to have a bite with all the layers. No beef here, promise.) The fruit was fresh and the meringue was made perfectly. The tarragon syrup itself was interesting, but good. It’s something else that we’ve never had before.

Hewitt’s Dairy Buttermilk Panna Cotta (Vegetarian/Local)
With: Dark Chocolate Hazelnut Bark, & Drunken BlueberriesWe didn’t know what drunken blueberries were. Now we do. XD Turns out, it’s alcohol-infused blueberries, which makes sense hehe. This was really quite delicious since despite the berries, the panna cotta was fresh and light- characteristics that we both enjoy in a dessert. The dark chocolate hazelnut bark had a delightful mix of sweet, savoury, and bitter flavours and reminded us of the Nature Valley sweet and salty chewy bars. We both loved the light note that this meal ended on, and left feeling very satisfied.

The Wrap:

Yup, we’re back to the expensive Summerlicious restaurants about it, but this one leaves us with no regrets. From the fantastic food to the great modern ambiance, Jump’s a restaurant that comes as advertised- a classy dining experience. The service was great, except for a bit of a delay in getting our bill and the music wasn’t too obtuse. Will we be back? We think so. :)

The Location:

Jump’s situated in the heart of the Financial District in downtown Toronto, located just west of Yonge on Wellington, inside of Commerce Court. They do validate parking down to $2 in the Commerce Court complex for dinner so long as you pull into the garage after 5:30 PM. That last bit’s important. XD
